Aaa--nd We're back. Work has me on a screwed up schedule of 4 tens with rotating days off. Today was my scheduled day off & my body needed a break from dealing with the tree I had taken down, so I took today to get back to work on my tractor. Decals came in so I was able to move forward. The original shift pattern serial number decal was placed over these holes in the dash / gas tank stand. OK. The original decal stayed in place for 62 years, but usually decals do not last long if they are placed over holes. Water can get behind them and cause them to fall off. To ensure the new decal stays in place, I decided to make a bolt on plate to stick the decal to. A piece of sheet metal, a couple of bolts, a little welding and bam. One decal plate. Plate worked out great. With the arrival of the decals I was also able to install the throttle and choke cables. Had everything I needed to see if it would start. Turned the gas on, turned the switch on, pull the rope.. nothing, pull the rope again... nothing, repeat, repeat..... OK, figured out no spark. Disconnected the condenser, checked the points, .2 ohms to ground closed, they are good. Unplugged the kill wire, still no spark. Changed the condenser and I had spark. A couple more tugs on the rope and it fired up. Always a great feeling to hear a fresh rebuild fire up for the first time! A few more parts to throw at it and this job will be done,

Swapped the 9.5’s on narrow wheels for 10.5’s on deep/wide wheels on the 510-8speed

If you do not already have a 2 stage pump, you will find that one will increase your speed. A 2 stage pump travels fast with no load but does slow down under a heavy load. Engine size matters, but not as much as you think. A 6.5 Predator on the right combo is very effective and almost unstoppable.

February 15 is my spuds day here. Already consuming fresh seed potatoes. Still cold there. plant deeper and mark. IF its well drained. Cover with mulch and label. I do my best to label?date and always surprise myself occasionally. I have an impressive seed bank and I plant A Lot. Best of luck

Hey guys. I always keep an eye on the local FB Marketplace and I saw a guy selling what looked to be an in good shape K321 Kohler 14 HP engine off of a wheel horse. I thought it could be used for spare parts / swapping parts for troubleshooting, or even to replace my K301 12HP on my 312-8 if it ever needs replaced. A few questions: What's a decent price for a working K321 engine? Not sure if the price he is asking is worthwhile or not How hard is it to swap a K301 and a K321 in a 312-8 tractor? Are they plug and play, or would there need to be modifications made? How do you start and stop an engine pulled from a tractor without a key, ignition, etc? How can i test it and play with it? Bigger motor means more force. A 6.5 will push 22 tons. a 8 will do around 30. Motor size won't matter at all on cycle times.

Well, tomorrow is supposed to be sunny, so they are going in the ground. We'll see what we get.

I used 2 4 way flat trailer connectors with the long wires. I moved the connection to the other side of the tractor away from the battery acid fumes and muffler heat. I labeled the connectors C1 and CII and then for each circuit I wrote down what circuit went on what connector and what color wire. So if there was ever a problem with say the starter circuit I knew what connector and wire to check.

While building the model landrover I decided I needed an air brush stand as I keep putting the thing down on the bench and spilling the paint. So I had a pop, using the brass base of an old lab instrument and some scraps of alloy and wood. One side holds the gun i use with a small colour cup, has to be stored like that as the cup juts out of the left side. The other side holds my gun with the standard paint jar on it.

Would it help to plow DOWN the driveway? 😂

Last set of metal weights I bought were for that Cub 106 I had. Paid 60. Plastic weights front and back on my 875.

Had a day to home today. Set too the chores early and got a LOT done. We've had an increasingly large pile and boxes of cutoffs and scrap gathering up. This morning I decided to burn it all. Mid 30s temps. Perfect for making hot 🔥 Note the dog enjoying the heat and eventually stealing my chair!! After that I moved on to more organization in the new workshop space. First thing to hang was my maternal Grampa's scythe. I taught myself how to use that when I was a teen. Just for the halibut. I then mounted a beautiful pair. Of horns. Long horn cattle horns to be precise. Many thanks to @Docwheelhorse for giving them to me. The rest of the afternoon I spent hanging pegs and tools. Several hours of moving swapping picking up and putting down. Also got my rolling tool boxes in the new space.

My all time favorite "weight" I ever ran across. This ball and plate weighed close to 120LBS!! There were 2 of these plates on the opposite side and they were about 60 lbs. apiece. I ended up using them on HHHOOOWWWAAARRRDDD!!!

Got a break in the monsoon this afternoon, so I hooked the roller to the 310-8 for a couple hours of seat time. I should have used the heated cab 520...it was a cold ride. The new Carlisle Turfs worked great.

I use this stuff all the time. Much better than the split wrap. Protects and organizes and won't hold all the dirt and moisture.

Well, wider tires have a larger contact patch, which reduces the amount of downloaded per square inch of contact area. Then on the other hand, a wider tire allows for more tread edges perpendicular to the travel direction. In general, wide tires for turf, mud, and sand. Narrow tires for snow.

Liquid filled tires, chains, and wheel weights weren't quite enough to push snow up my steep driveway so I added a weight box of sorts.

A couple of things I noticed, It's kind of hard to tell but the needle bearings in the PTO bell look worn flat, but maybe it's the grease making it look that way. I've never seen a compression spring inside the PTO either. The clutch plate retaining clip doesn't look right on the right side in the picture. It doesn't look like it's in the groove. The negative wire from the points looks suspect too. I've never seen one routed behind the upper PTO bracket like that before.

Absolutely right as long as they don't freeze hard and I'm not sure if that really matters. I have hold overs every year that must have froze over winter but grow and produce. From my experience in my area it's never seemed to be much of an advantage to get them in as soon as the soil can be worked. I've never tried planting some as soon as the soil can be worked and then more a few weeks later in the same year. Every year is different. Plant a lot if you have room, nothing like new potatoes in the summer.

It's definitely a little early for us this far East, I've grown potatoes for years. I've cut them as others have suggested but planting them just like they are seems to be more productive. Keep them cool and Dark they should be good, I leave mine in until mid October. I eat lots of potatoes.

Tines look fairly good from what I can see. Tecumseh engine replacement tank. Ag Tires are a plus Very similar to mine my father bought back in the early 70s. Picked it up at the factory in Troy NY Still works never a seal issue...Rugged mac hies can be hard to control on rocky soil but once it is mostly de-rocked you walk along one side control it with one hand. if you have really rocky soil you can get pic tines for her. $400

I’ve finally driven this project! Still have a list of things to take care of but she’s a runner For anyone not familiar with this project, it’s a 1991 520-8 speed that I picked up over the winter with no motor. Had a good Kohler Magnum 10 “in-stock” here so that became the power plant.

Our GPS and I have been known to fight it out several times. There are little two lane roads I've found in various places that have no traffic and parallel congested Interstates.

We luv it when a plan comes together even if it is clear across the pond. We will need a video of that thing working.

You could probably make some friends by sharing some detailed measurements and pictures of the tractor mounting bits!
