14 pointsI’ve finally driven this project! Still have a list of things to take care of but she’s a runner For anyone not familiar with this project, it’s a 1991 520-8 speed that I picked up over the winter with no motor. Had a good Kohler Magnum 10 “in-stock” here so that became the power plant.

6 pointsOnce upon a time, the beer lovers of the United States were very sad. The government ratified the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920, banning all intoxicating liquors, including beer, beginning the period of American history we now know as Prohibition. However, in 1933, Prohibition came to an end with the passage of the twenty-first Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.. The date was April 7, so now we celebrate New Beer’s Eve each year on April 6! So grab a beer and toast to your ability to drink it!

6 pointsI think I accomplished the impossible today... Got the bell crank off the lift arm without destroying either. The original center column was trashed. I replaced it but had to recover the lift assembly. 64 years of brown weld certainly has a grip! The pic below was obviously after cleaning the shaft up.

4 pointsI was looking for something in the Old Farmer’s Almanac this morning and happened to discover that on this day in 1930, a certain James Dewar (of the distillery?) invented the Twinkie, which most certainly does not pair with beer. Or whiskey, for that matter. Or much of anything, I believe. Recently reformulated to last longer than ever!

4 pointsBolens and the little 25 lb. Farmall /Cub Cadet are the only wheel weights I've come across with a brand name or symbol on them. Power King had W-12 and W-16 on their weights. You would think if Wheel Horse actually made their steel weights, they would at least have the emblem cast into them. The weights I bought from the CC dealer said those weights came from IH. The box was so old all of the numbers on it were faded away

-
4 points@ebinmaine I’ve had that happen before too. My uncle have a wood lot and to navigate my family uses those type of directions to get around there. For example, on a turn, here is an old red bucket you’re supposed to turn by, only it has rusted away. @Achto It must be a rural thing. I don’t know the name of some roads around here but I know the landmarks.

4 pointsOuter "standard" Wheel horse weights look like these. They fit 8 and 12 inch wheels. The also had inner weights, and larger ones for 15 inch wheels. I've seen them in red, white or black.

4 pointsReassembled the 520-8 (or is it a 510-8 ) The wiring works, just need to take it back apart and connect it up properly without the temporary wire nuts. Hopefully get that done and the battery installed and take it for a test ride tomorrow.

4 pointsChanged oil in 854 yesterday and did some touch up painting where she had some working wear! 1 1/4 quarts -and I put in 1 1/2 by mistake thinking I remembered how much. Went back to the chart and had to take out some to get it right. I have a chart but apparently have not memorized it! I changed oil in the 314-8 too ! We had 3 3/4 inches of rain yesterday and early this am. o flooding here at home but my sale I installed between my neighbor's house and mine worked great again!

3 pointsI know that this video mentions direct injection quite a bit, but the basics should pertain to any type of diesel or gas engine.

3 pointsAuto parts stores and farm & barn stores. Look in the trailer aisle as they are often used on trailers. Many of use swap out lug bolts for studs. Makes wheel mounting, especially with loaded tires, easier. A 7/16-20 x 1 1/4 fits the bill.

3 pointsHUGE progress in the new workshop space. We now have 4 pieces of 4 x 8 pegboard hanging. This will be a great place to organize all our tools and supplies out where we can see them. These are odd colors because they're from two different vendors and several years age different. The opposite wall is all shelves.

3 pointsWe are still recovering from the bug we picked up in California 10 days ago, so we opted out of traveling with the high school robotics team I mentor to a competition in Shawnee Oklahoma this weekend. Rather, we watched it on line. Both the upperclassmen and underclass teams competed in this meet. Both teams had made some major upgrades to their machines. Both teams improved their performances at the competition. The upperclass team ended up being the being the captain of the #1 seated alliance and the underclass team the #4 alliance captain of the 8 alliance double elimination playoff rounds. The upperclassmen team lost the first match of the playoffs, dropping them into the lower bracket. From there, they won the rest of the playoff matches and the competition. They are currently ranked #65 in the world, out of about 3700 teams. The underclass team did well in the playoffs until the came up against the upperclass team in the 5th playoff round. They are currently ranked #742 in the world. The driver for the upperclass team is a senior. I'm going to accuse him of sandbagging that first match of the playoffs just so he could drive more matches before his robot driving carreer ends.

3 pointsI've commented on this before, but I use 25 pound barbell cast iron plates and made my own wheel weights. A local guy buys & selled used gym equipment and has a pile of various weight plates for $1 a pound, last time I checked. Drilling and tapping them can be an adventure..... For me, it's all about functionality, not lineage, for a seasonal item.....

3 pointsI used to drive wrecker back in the late 80's early 90's, way before GPS. Directions in Wisconsin were quite interesting as well. "Get on 21, follow that until you get to Krentz's, turn left there and follow that road until you get to where that big yellow barn was, There is a road to the left there but don't turn there, keep going till you find that big oak with a rock in front, turn right there and we're the second house on the right."

2 points@wvhunter agree with @953 nut with the light duty clip on wire leads , horses are known for , chafed , heat cracked wiring , once you find the issue , don,t be afraid to slightly reroute original set up and use , https://www.google.com/search?q=stretch+wire+covering&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS866US866&oq=stretch+wire+covering+&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIHCAEQIRigATIHCAIQIRirAjIHCAMQIRirAjIHCAQQIRirAtIBCTExOTI3ajFqNKgCCLACAfEFChc9tjNhRvU&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#oshopproduct=gid:16911182459789499013,mid:576462678680080362,oid:11945260140200717221,iid:16034390776896538401,pvt:hg,pvo:3&oshop=apv&pvs=0 spiral wire wrap , there is also STICK ON mounts for this , letting you set up a much better , wiring layout . eliminate tight bends , get away from heat areas . IMPORTANT,VERIFY your gains as you go , personally use those clip on leads , all the time , pete Wvahunter

2 pointsI have bought a set of " Wheel Horse " steel weights brand new in a box from an old Cub Cadet dealer. Yes they were outsourced. I have seen them on AMF machines as well. Plain weights $1 a pound. WH weights $2 a lb.
-
2 pointsYes sir, mine does too. She calls me Klink only referring to my cheapo attitude. She has a name for most all of my "faults"... And a few for all my other unusual mannerisms.

2 pointsAbout fifty years back I was on my way to pick up a project car in Texas. All I knew was that the guy lived near a small town which I managed to locate on the map. When I arrived in that town and asked for further directions I was told that his road was a ways further down the main road and then turn right three miles before you get to the next town. I feared that I would have to drive to that town and then double back three miles. What he forgot to tell me was that there was a sign at the intersection showing the three mile distance to the next town. After Hurricane Andrew there were no road signs and a lot of "landmarks" in Homestead were gone. The National Guardsmen who were directing traffic were from out of state and had no idea where anything was. Several times I had people pull into my driveway seeking directions while I was making repairs to my house.
