@19richie66 Thanks. Feels good to be able to get back on this project. I finally got about 4 hours in after being laid up for 7 weeks. I'll be doing all I can before my next surgery.

Having a great time in Portsmouth. HMS Victory is outstanding, cannot believe she fought in the American war of independence as well as Trafalgar and many others. I can't imagine the hell on earth that the gun decks would be during battle. The noise, smoke, blood and sheer terror is hard for us all to understand. The different types of shot shown here makes your hair stand on end; ball, grape, cannister, bar and chain shot, all designed to damage rigging or ships timbers, but also capable of tearing a man into pieces. The place where Lord Nelson died on the lower deck of Victory, shot by a sniper from only 15 yards away. He knew he was beyond hope as soon as he was hit, but clung on until the battle was won. I was very touched standing here, such a great man and the saviour of a nation. Tomorrow it's the Mary Rose, Henry the eigths favourite ship.

I don't know why offshore carbs get such a bad rap. Not that I don't prefer an original but continued erratic problems with the one on this girl spurred me to order one. Bowl gasket leaking and bad inlet leaking. I was out of original rebuild kits so I used the cheap offshore kits which I keep on hand just for the gasket and bowl baffle for those quick bowl cleanings. For those who don't know the inlet needle and seat on these cheapy kits are junk and don't fit. Just round file them. A OEM kit was a week away and I am trying to get this tractor plow day ready. Order the cheapy carb on Saturday (the jungle) and was in my mitts on Sunday. Bolted right up and off and running great. This is at least the third one I put on a small block with no problems whatsoever than having to re-tap the front air cleaner mount threads ... must be metric??? OEM rebuild kit is about $15 these days Cheapy carb was $16 & they throw in a fuel filter, gas cock & hose clamps that don't fit... Kinda of a no brainer??

We are currently in our Mo. location. I've been playing brick layer on and off this week. Today is a milestone day. I've topped out the north column on our long running porch project. 2 more columns to go. About 120 bricks. Then it will be on to building a decorative beam between the top of the columns and the bottom of the roof, installing the porch ceiling, soffit, and facia boards.

Dropped a really tall “standing-dead” ash tree yesterday…GT-1600 hauled it all after cutting up to the front yard to be picked up.

I guess I’ve had better luck than most. I’ve used two that I intended to use as temporary. Both are still going strong and it’s been a couple years. Two K321s and a Magnum10 engine used them. The Mag10 developed a bore problem (already bored .030 over) and that tractor was repowered altogether, so the third technically lasted only about 12-18 months. For clarification, I don’t think they are as good as OEM. But since those are not available anymore, I had to make a choice. Plus they allow me to have a spare so I can keep a Kohler running instead of waiting on a part.

I’m not sure if this qualifies for Side Shot Saturday or Front End Friday so I’m either late or really early! I had to move some tractors around to get out my Peco trailer vacuum for the upcoming leaf harvest, so I figured I’d snap a few pictures! I left them like this for a while so I could walk in the backyard every so often and just look at them😂 When my wife sees me doing this she just shakes her head, and can’t believe she’s been married to this weirdo for over thirty years!!

You happen to know someone close by who keeps at least 2 OEM kits in stock ay all times. Shoulda gave me a shout.

Looks like your 552 has been changed to a 702, or the 702 had it's belt guard changed to a 552 A 552 would have had a Tecumseh (Lauson) engine and that would be a magnito ignition engine. That Kohler engine on there is a battery ignition engine. The wiring is different for those engines My advice would be to clean up or rewire what's there. You can buy 1/2" wire loom to cover the wires for a cleaner look

i use a strip of wall/floor base cove vinyl to attach as my deflector material for the 42 rd decks -- it has natural lip curve that works perfect - and i use the carriage bolts with rounded head underneath so threads do not get damaged

I tried to use a rock shaft but there was not enough room. Some modification to the steering box, a couple of u joints and some 3/4 rod I have a solution. I had to take .015 off the Ross steering shaft to fit in the u joints. Now I need to make the drag link.

Ya know. You'd think a guy like @WHX?? that has a BUNCH of Wheelhorses would have a parts dept. (Don't mind the mess while we move our workshops and parts storage)

If you want to update the cranking system on a solid state Tecumseh or other magneto ignition engine using a solenoid and the more modern 103-991 ignition switch this is the drawing to work from.

Very cool info. it’s funny when I went and looked at the tractor I was shocked to see the flat tie bar, and I thought somebody had jury rigged it that way. I was impressed at how tight everything was, and then I realized, after looking at the owner manual online that it was factory. lol. now I’m gonna have to get an 854 just so that I can experience both styles axles.

One wire at a time, don't rush the process and you should be fine.

I've watched this several times from the different angles that are out there and I’m I awe every time. That thing is huge and they are balancing and moving using thrusters. Some mighty slick programming being done in that shop.

True... after she got warmed up and tweaked them they ended right back at out of box best. Real close to 1 1/2 out.

Mice straight tractor I see rust on the frame rails in front of the engine and some other areas, makes me wonder if just the outside was rattle can painted. Id ask him for details about the "restoration. Was any work done to the engine and or transmission. Was it completely disassembled to paint? Are tires fairly new?

Yep Definitely metric. Makers don’t want to mess with Imperial standard tooling. And as a reminder, the needle valves are also likely metric threaded (they were on the ones I’ve used so no swapping onto “stock” carbs). I also strongly suggest NOT messing with the needle valves AT ALL until trying to run it. The three I’ve used ran well out of the box and needed less than ⅛ turn to be dialed in. If you MUST pull the needles, FIRST turn them all the way in (gently) so you can put it back as it came. You’ll likely find they are only 1 full turn out as delivered and much more sensitive to adjust.

Exactly KP... I don't think I ever put one on a big block. If I did I don't remember or learning new french... BTW these carbs don't work on nut roaster K91s... bowl hits the breather cover.

In my opinion Elon Musk is our modern day Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Nikola Tesla, Eli Whitney, George Eastman and wright Brothers all rolled up in one marvelous package. He has improve existing science and provided the United States with a new spirit of entrepreneurship. Rather than thinking big government agencies like NASA and the Transportation Department are the answer he has surpassed their goals and risked his own money and reputation in the process. Few people have risen from an obscure mapping and directory company founder to create an innovative transportation empire which is leading the world's transition to autonomous spacecraft. While the government was funding the Boeing Starliner at $ 90 million per seat, Elon Musk succeeded in launching the SpaceX Crew Dragon for $ 55 million per seat. Musk's rather small company outshined the big boys and saved NASA.

The bearings with no seals on the inside allow you to fill the spindle with grease through the zerks and have lube there constantly.

Hello I have been searching for a 48” deck. This tractor and deck were listed for $850. I am seriously interested but I would prefer to have someone local lay hands and eyes on the tractor and deck for me. I will pay for your Time and if you want to haul the tractor to Philly or Harrisburg/Carlisle would pay for that also.

I took the belt off, and it measures 84”, however, it is thicker than 5/8”. It measures .700” across the flat, which is .075” over 5/8”. I’m wondering if my problem is because the belt is wider, the width is preventing it from properly seating in the pulleys? The brand of this belt is D&D power sports, and came from Amazon. The top picture is with me pulling it down as far as I can, and the tensioner is all the way up, so you can see that there is no way the tensioner pulley will fit on top of it. I’m thinking of trying the TSC Kevlar belt that was recommended.

Not sure what you are trying to do. If leveling a lawn it's best to till it first, your not doing to move much hard dirt. Wheel Horse tiller or walk behind. As has been all ready said crushed stone can get hard. I have crusher run stone on my drive it get as hard as pavement. Here is what I used on my drive. I also made a longer clevis hitch and it work much better than the WH clevis hitch with this implement. I built this one, it's a Pulverizer larger ones are used to plant grass with three point tractors. The wench is used not because I couldn't lift it, but it's heavy enough that made it almost imposable to press down the release. The release on manual lift 300, 400, and 500 doesn't go straight down it has a small radius. This post doesn't say anything about "Down Pressure". Just showing something that works.

Since you have the head off, now is a good time to pull carb and clean, then pull breather clean and adjust valve clearance.

@ebinmaine UPDATE: Test drove the tractor earlier today, then installed the plow blade to make sure it was all there and in working order and test drove some more. Cleaning the plastic slider/ball socket with electronic cleaner and compressed air seems to have brought it back under control No more acceleration creep!

Pretty sure the tiller for a C-195 is made by Woods. They are pretty high test and very heavy.

10/26/1959 They skipped the letter I because it could be interpreted as a 1. That casting is from late in 1959. Most likely it was an early 400 tractor. The side plates for the suburban are different than the RJ, whereas the brake band tab would be different. On a 45 deg angle for the suburban. Vertical straight up and down tab on the RJ. Of coarse it's always possible parts are changed over the years but...who knows. I can see the 45 tab on your trans. Think I found the back of your hood LOL It's a 400 cut off in just about that exact same spot

Luckily for me one hub pulled easily due to a seal leak on this spare rear end. The other hub was stuck tight. The set screws were removed yesterday and Kroil sprayed in. I used 3/8" x 3-1/2" bolts between the two hubs sandwiching a snap-on puller. I used the flat adapter on the puller screw. A small impact gun was used to prevent breakage of anything. Success...Both hubs now off. Taper punch removed the woodruff keys from the axle shafts.

@Bill D think your very solid back up plate and back up spacers , eliminated the cast flange flex , when you are solid , over strong , the mechanical advantage , gets the edge . perfect visual example of , a solid move point , no flexing . good job , pete
