17 pointsAll: Yesterday, I got a call from my son asking if he could stop by to change the oil in his & the girlfriends cars, after he took her 3 boys to get haircuts. I had finished cutting the grass with the 854 & parked it to wash out the underside of the deck. All 3 boys showed interest in it, so...... Why not fire up the C81 too?? Good times.

11 pointsYesterday I spent the day at the Dacusville SC Farm Show, Wheel Horse was the featured tractor and Jacky @turnnleft and his family had an outstanding display. As I drove around the grounds I snapped a few more photos to share with you. Camping has changed a bit since the 1920s Lots of horses other than Whee4l Horses

10 pointsI loaded one of the 953s onto my trailer, drove a couple hours to Dacusville, SC for a nice little show, drove it all day, took a bunch of pictures I've posted and enjoyed the day. First time in over a year that I have been able to do that.

10 pointsAlthough some people (cough, cough) don't want me to activate the Horse Whinnie horn I inherited from roadapples at the WH show, I like to turn it on when young children come up to the tractors. I had a great time at our local steam show with the kids and the horn. The best are the ones that are real quizzical at they get near one. They tentatively touch a tractor and I make the horn sound. There eyes light up like it's Christmas morning.

7 pointsalways great to see the kids interested in the tractors --- bought the 312 in 1989 -- my son was on it immediately - - as well as helping underneath to install the plow -- my grandson began mowing with my 312 when he was about 6 --- it's 35 yrs later and my 17 yr old grandson has a 520hc and C165 -- and has done numerous rehabs with me -

7 pointsI loosened the trans from the frame and we were able to jack it up enough to get the post in place. After pulling the plug and letting the engine rotate the transmission pulley with the starter for a bit, we pulled enough fluid down the fill tube to fire it up!
-
5 pointsAfter a couple trips to the shop sitting and thinking I decided to see if i could remove the drive pulley so I could get the larger pulley closer to the motor. After a couple days tension with a puller and a shot of rust weld dissolver I finally got it off.

4 pointsWe started on Lawrence rd in Pownal. Walked about a mile and a half around Tryon Mt. Explored a feldspar mine that we didn't know about. VERY interesting place. Video below and some pics mixed in. We walked over to Bradbury mountain State Park along the border trail and others. Then back to the parking lot. Total mileage just under 6. Elevation gain almost 900 feet. The humidity was high and doing its best to snot beat me. Nearly succeeded bit eventually I won. I wanted to make sure I called out this Pic first. Note the ring around this tree about 3 feet up. There was a cable tied to/around it in the distant past that was part of the mining operation. It was pointed directly at the tall post/crane/derrick in the video. More mine pics. This is a Pound for loose large animals from a couple hundred years ago. Super cool van in the State Park lot. And the rest.....

4 pointsNot today, but I finally remembered to take pictures, and we all know if you don't have pictures it didn't happen. Following my stroke I have been using a walker and don't have good balance, so lowering and raising the heavy ramp on my trailer was going to present a problem. I bought a pair of garage door springs, ten feet of PVC and a couple of pulleys and solved that problem for about $ 60.00. Works so well I don't know why I didn't do it years ago.

4 pointsUnloaded a bunch of cr#p at the manure pile at our friendly neighbour farmer. So I got to drive a tractor and the weather is perfect at 23°C/73°F, no clouds, bit of wind. Good day in my book.

3 pointsThe troublesome NINE PIN CONNECTOR was an Onan connector and is unnecessary unless you plan to swap engines on a regular basis. The diagram below shows the wiring at the nine pin and many people have eliminated the connector and soldered their wires color for color with good results. The white wire begins at a 30 Amp fuse and terminates at the voltage regulator. It handles a great deal of current (amps) and results in the meltdown you have experienced. Hope this is helpful to you.

3 pointsWorked on making some personalized Key Chains for a friend. I think they turned out well! 3D printed in 3 colors. The one I made for mine is not personalized. Always fun to be making something unique and useful. It is a small thing to do on a WH, but an easy way to finding the key on the key rack! Steve

2 pointsThese are the spindle bearings and seals that @Handy Don told me to get earlier this summer, and they worked great: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006KT1DKQ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BZ6XDW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title These should be the bearings for the cross shaft: https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/?s=1515&post_type=product&dgwt_wcas=1 They sit steaked into the aluminum stands behind the cross-shaft gears. The shafts are NLA as far as I know. If you need the spindle shafts (the short vertical ones) I believe I have a set that is still good I'd be willing to set you up with. I just have to find them. If you need a cross shaft contact A-Z tractors. IIRC he had a few of them at the show. This is the manual for the 32-inch decks built between 61 and 67.

1 pointMy ultrasonic gets up around 190⁰F, that would be more than enough to offgas solvents, having solvent vapor floating around the shop, culminating in 5 gallons of hot solvent just seems like a bad idea.

1 pointFound this while poking about: According to the Maine Geological Survey for Bradbury Mountain compiled by Henry N. Berry IV, “Feldspar is the most abundant mineral in granite, and in pegmatite the individual feldspar crystals can be very large. Feldspar was mined from pegmatite bodies like this in many places across Maine in the early 1900s. The quarry itself, now overgrown with large trees, is about 150 feet long, 20 feet wide, and 10 feet deep. It was crushed and separated to be used in making ceramics or as an abrasive. By the mid-1900s, feldspar mining had moved to other parts of the country and the world.”

1 pointOk i will get the manual from this site and compare the part diagrams. Thank you.

1 pointOne more Pic. This is the track and also shows the Mine.

1 pointOne more measurement, the bore is 6" long from the top of the block.
-
1 point@BurtB Here's some measurements of a bare k341 block. The CL's would be the same on a K321 block. Just a slight difference in bore diameter which doesn't matter since these are CL measurements. 12-3/8" Block Height Overall 3-3/4" from bottom of block to Centerline of crankshaft 2-15/16 - 3" roughly from bearing plate side of block to centerline of bore (I didn't have a great way to establish C.L. I measured a36" Atlas lathe I have access to and from the top of the Cross Slide Ways to the CL of chuck was 3-3/8" But from the top of the Cross Slide to CL of chuck was 3-0" So if you completely removed the cross slide and mounted your mounting plate to the cross slide ways you would have 3/8" to work with.

1 point@jamesfranklincollins7@gma agree with @oliver2-44 on the specific lubricant to the spindles , the loading , heat / stress , is what , finishes off the original lube in there . my own experience is LUCAS X TRA HEAVY DUTY , POLYUREA GREASE , 550 flash point , have also done every related bearing in the mule drive related belt drive set up , 12 bearings NO WHYINING NOISE , pto outer cone bearing available at NAPA ,imagine that ? the lucas marine grease is also very good , 570 deg flash point , once I started getting after deck problems , the critical failure point was consistently lubricant failure , my mule drive belt easily rotates the deck, BY HAND , also lightly feed in the PTO LEVER , to start engagement , no screaming / squealing clutch burning start . experience based on REPEDITIVE FAILURE , is what you want , to show you the way , like many W/H issues , original intent was good , its the finish DETAILING on FUNCTIONAL OPERATION , that make them amazingly easy to use , my own experience , pete

1 pointHaven't done anything yet today. Yesterday we went and grabbed a dryer that a friend's relative was giving away, then spent most of the rest of the day cleaning out the garage. I got the best, most confused look I have ever seen from my wife in the 20 years I've know her when I said we could just stick the spare dryer in the garage and hook it up out there, and then pointed to the 220V outlet. She could not for her life figure out why I had one out there. Then I took the boy and his one friend fishing for a few hours before dinner. Today looks like more cleaning after church. I never got to addressing the sorry state of my tool box.

1 pointTake this with a grain of salt because I'm not familiar with the mechanics of WHY or how this works. If I shut off either engine running at WOT or shut off the engine at any rpm and immediately put the throttle lever at WOT it never back fires.

1 pointI recently bought a new Carlisle (or so I thought) turf saver tire. I didn't realize it when I ordered it but when it came (an Amazon purchase) I thought it was the wrong tire because it had a different name. I didn't realize it, but Carlisle has changed their name. The tread is the same, so I guess this is okay, but it was a surprise. Carlisle has been around as long as I can remember, so I'll miss the good old original brand! I guess this comes under the 'same, but different' category! C-85

1 pointDid some research and ordered a new breather, tube and an NOS valve cover. I don't necessarily need the valve cover but I have 3 of these engines I'd like to see running and one's rough looking. I got these parts all cleaned up and rust removed. The Paint Department is putting a coat of Rust-Oleum 2X Satin Canyon Black on them.

1 pointI want to thank @Vinylguy Terry for yet another absolutely stellar performance. I present to you all: The "UGLY BRUCE".

1 pointNext task on the C175 is to replace the hoses and rebuild the lift valve. Valve is leaking like a faucet. Parts from WheelHorsePartsandMore. I’m sure this is going to be a fun task.

1 pointShe floats!!! Thanks @Achto for the perfect solution!!! And thanks to @wallfish and @953 nut for connection suggestions/observations... cleaned up and treated with @peter lena's second favorite - dielectric grease... Needed a bit of trimming to fit on the plastic cover, but come to find out some one else has trimmed a bit before me... But there were no cheese curd crumbs or Capt'n spills in the area so @WHX?? and achto are off the hook...! All in all a good fix...
