4 pointsSo I picked this up Tuesday. My plan was to use it at my mother's house this fall as she has a real problem with leaves. Craftsman tow behind lawn and leaf vacuum. PO said it was his father's, who passed away. Sat in shed unused for a few years. One tire flat, wont start. He has had it for sale for some time at 600. I noticed he had changed the ad to read make him an offer. I texted him and was made an offer I couldn't refuse. 125.00 Picked it up. Clean as can be. No rust, not even a scratch on it. Got it to my mother's and within 15 mins it was purring like a kitten. Problem was that the chute would not mesh with the deck on that FREE craftsman rider I had got for her few months back. My nieces and her husband showed up to my mom's and her husband had interest in the vac. Told me he give me 4 tires for my truck for it. Sooooo, next week I will be getting a set of tires for my truck ! I'm happy, he is happy, my mom not so happy . Can't please everyone!

4 pointsNot really a coaster, though it could be used for that purpose. This item is going to be used to cover a hole at the center of the flywheel screen. It is a work in progress and this is the first iteration so please ignore the hole on the edge of the hub. This was made using Libracad, a 2D CAD program which allowed me to load it into Estlcam, a simplie CAM program. Estlcam created the G-code file that the CNC router used to create the part.

3 pointsIn between rain drops and doing 748 other things Trina got a coat of Rust-Oleum 2X Nutmeg color on a lawn ornament deer she's fixing up for my momma. She also started the destruction process on the old forest access bridge this morning. After a break I went out with her and we got it all shredded. Next June or July there'll be NO indication of any human activity here.

2 pointsSo, with the new electric pump making life easy on the 516H, I installed the new mag on the '99 Intek on my Snapper RER which had just died softly while cutting last week. My 62 year old brain told me it had to be the mag as the spark appeared weak. Made sense. Got the OEM part and . . . nothing. It couldn't have been under the valve cover because I just adjusted the valves. Finally moved it into the garage now that I have a week off and, yup, there was the intake rocker hanging on with adjuster on the cover. The adjuster lost its tiny little adjustment screw. Nothing - not by magnet, not in drained oil. Pulled the cover off and, nothing. The cam is worn to the point where ACR is a now and then thing. I'll buy new OEM because the Chinesium is a guaranteed fail. Even the B&S part is not of the quality of the solid piece I'll be tossing. Maybe swap the ACR pieces? And so, I wonder if they'll take back the mag . . . she'll run later next week. Sigh.

2 pointsI broke the throttle cable the other day and had to shorten it a couple inches to repair. Since then, the low end idle has been lower/slower. So far, it has not back fired! Seems the idle was too high at shut down?

2 pointsWell bud sounds like you have it all covered. Enjoy the your weekend and holiday.

2 pointsThis is not how I was taught to calculate torque values Don. I was always taught, at least for SAE bolts, that the fraction was the drive size of the impact, and then you take the smallest common fraction (1/4 1/3, 1/2 etc) that produces a whole number on the integer, and that's you ugga-dugga factor. So your 3/8-16 bolt takes a 3/8 drive impact at 4 ugga duggas.

2 pointsThank you! No real need for that. We only use it occasionally, getting down cristmas decorations and stuff like that, and only with socks or bare feet. On top of that the walls are "Agnes" panels which have a plastic (?) coating on them. Plus anything I put on the wall would not look very tasty.. Handholds are for the weak! Which I am not (yet) In all seriousness, I used to go up there without a ladder and just doing a kind of back summersault while holding onto the beam. I think this will be fine for now

2 pointsThis one is special to me. Back in the day I had many of these Start/Gen tractors. I just wanted to have one that is show worthy. Garage queen only.

1 pointSo, @Pullstart, @squonk, @Handy Don.. So when my 502 yank-start is done with the mower... Do I qualify for a WH "Cowboy Merit Badge" for ropin' & ridin' ???

1 pointToday I made the drive to take a look at it myself ,with trailer in tow. It’s a little rougher than I thought but it had been sitting in a corn field for a few yrs. C-101 8 speed .1979 if I’m reading the ID tag right. The deck is in great shape.Someone made a couple scalp wheels out of logs 🪵

1 pointI was taught these formulas before electric was common, and for anything I'm actually using an impact on I don't trust electric enough. Only air for this grease monkey.

1 pointThe thing it took me a while to “grok” is that the carb, piston, valves, and muffler are totally unaware that we’ve shut off the spark (except on the newer engines that have the solenoid fuel cutoff at the carb). Air is still being pulled in, mixed with fuel, compressed, and exhausted. If the muffler is hot enough to ignite that exhausted fuel/air mixture, it’ll backfire. For engines I use only sporadically, I close the fuel petcock and let the engine run until fuel starvation shuts it down. Lessens the chance of mess in the carb from fuel evaporation and for sure no backfires!

1 pointSunstrand 90 series hydro units like the ones in WHs were used by several tractor manufactures. Bolens JD etc.. I looked up some of the fluid recommendations by the other users. Everything from ATF, Motor oil, Tractor hydro fluid, and of course John Deeres own blend. Change fluid and filter by directions don't mix stuff and you will be OK. No need to overthink things....

1 pointThe "kit" is the way to go. Comes with a few Helicoils, special drill and tap - AND the driver to wind them into place. Not cheap, but do it right - there are YouTube videos on how to do this...

1 pointWhat did you decide to do? Pictures? I'm a big fan vacuum pulse pumps.

1 pointLooks like you have a spacer on the front of the hood?? I am curious about the sealer you are talking about ,is it better than RTV?? Thanks!!

1 pointDefinitely misleading. If the nyloc has not moved on the bolt, then any “preload” loss is due to loss of metal or bending somewhere--off any or all of the fixture bushings, the bottom of the nut, the underside of the bolt head, or (far less likely) on the bolt or nut threads where they are meshed within the nut. Also, to me 6 lbs of torque is only 20% of the 31 lb. spec for a standard grade ⅜-16 bolt, especially one intending to capture a piece with no movement as in the use case for this test. All this proves to me is that an improper assembly can fail--surprise surprise. If I’d submitted a lab report for a test like this in college, I’d have received no higher than a D grade.

1 pointI thought about painting it all up… but just decided to let it look used and rustic

1 pointi have stubbornly adjusted to being much more careful and cautious in my senior years of how i move and lift items -- when we all grow up in active or athletic early years its hard to accept father time -- but i have had to realize they are just so many cortisone shots i can reasonably get - - haha --------- in the case of that mower on the wall i smartly asked my wife for help as was the case the other day with another lifted item -- so just having to learn to be humble - - of course she like may partners are usually very supportive but that doesn't mean we all don't get occasional frowns
-
1 pointAfter the change to Eaton transmissions around 1980 this might be. In the 70s when the older square hoods were using a Sundstrand there were many manual lift hydros but the transmissions were the same other than valves.
-
1 pointhey Paul - - let me know how the twin runs -- compression - oil use - valves - fuel - etc -- i have TWO C175s -- a Series 1 and a Series 2 -- always looking for insights -- Bill

1 pointOur GT1642 does this too. The key is to idle down and wait 1 minute before shuttiing off. That's all it takes.
