I'm a 12 year old who started collecting some wheel horses in the last 6 months. Currently I own an A-81 and a 414-8. The 414-8 is running very well and the A-81 is currently not running. I have a mower for each but have not mowed with the 414-8 yet. I will attach some pictures below

Good morning picked up a 1983 1848 Work Horse last week. Could not be happier what a tank. It's replacing my cub cadet 1046 for ground duties on my almost 2 acre lot. I did a lot of snooping on here about this model and was definitely a big part of me pulling the trigger to buy it over a JD 317 I was also looking at. So thanks to Red Square for valuable information. Looking for a dozer blade for it now.

We had a little flurry of snow here around noon today. A flurry of fat fluffy flakes formed, floating freely .... well, that started out a bit "poetic" but I stalled and didn't know where to take it from there.

Rainy day not much work at the farm so came home and finally painted the rims

I used two 1 1/2" x 1/4" ground on the back side to fit between those ridges. Then added 1 1/2" x 1/4" braces.. You don't have to take the tractor apart to do it this way.

I got a C-145 auto that is pretty close and is a great tractor one of my favorites! Like the others said feel free to ask as many questions as you have.

Also have a GT-1848, it was red when I got it. Now I just use it occasionally for the grader blade, which by the way works great?

@Moparman WOW! Is that original? That has to be one of the nicest GT-1848’s I’ve ever seen. I have a GT-1800 I bought brand new in 1984. I’ve said it before here many times, a Work Horse is a Wheel Horse through and through. I mowed commercially with it for 8 years and did countless other tasks, tilling, plowing etc with it. A few years ago I gave it a well deserved restoration and put it on the retired list! I’d love to see more pictures of your Work Horse, here’s a few too many of mine!!

So, after 2 days of head scratching, some colorful language, and occasionally reading the instructions, I managed to get the new garage door and opener installed and functioning as it should. Now I can get the Hog out and Bailey doesn’t have to go up and down steps for his potty breaks… IMG_3189.mov

Transmission I bought at the big show. Started working on it. Using it in my rat rod Suburban. Transmission I got w/tractor was shot- full of water. Still have some parts to strip off the old/bad transmission.

That's a tough nut to crack Kev. First thought is to let go of the 'Burbs but then again... it's like cutting off a thumb to save a toe. My recent theory is if it doesn't come out to play or work on a regular basis time to go. Don't ask me how well that is workin... Came up with a new theory tho ... sell them to @Achto for little to nothing... he has to stall them but most often I still get seat time!...

@MarshDuck! My kids enjoy these tractors, but are quite busy with school for garage time much these days. As you can see here, if you are inquisitive and are willing to learn, we’re glad to help!

OK Don what's with the plow? Looks like a Brinly dressed to kill. Have you not been following the plow day thread? Just for looks or all show and no go???

I'm going to prove that CAT can and will run and operate. Everyone that has used it in the past and has known about its problems over its life swears there's no hope and it's a pile of junk. I've already put ATF and Acetone mixed down the cylinders a month ago. I put a three foot breaker bar and got the engine rotating as it should. Pressure tested injectors, all sprayed as expected. The main brakes are weak and parking brake doesn't work. According to MSHA rules, all lights, brakes must work. So, since it couldn't pass inspection years ago, parking it in the scrap yard was the best option. Since then, people have tried to buy, trade, sell their souls to the boss to get it and no go. I told him that I would spend my own money and time to get it functioning again. IF I can get it back to today's code, it's mine and will as a good gesture, maintain haul roads at both facilities for free. Plus, I think it would be fun to run uptown for Dairy Queen or the bank!

The ten inch wide rear turf tires would be a dead giveaway!

The Peerless 700 transmission was used in a lot of lawn tractors/lawn mowers. You may be able to locate one at a mower dealer that has a scrap yard. This manual may be helpful to you.

It's good to start out now on these. Turning wrenches on cars will be easier for sure.

I have a dozer blade and the rear axle bracket for it, here in Indiana. Not listed in classifieds yet. Let me know if you might be interested. Looks like you're up on the north side of Chicago, which is a bit far away, but my daughter is in college up there so I may be up that way sometime. No plans in the foreseeable future though. I have a 1982 GT-1848 that has been re-powered with a Honda GX610 engine. I love this machine. Mine was painted red by a previous owner - I'm actually toying with the idea of painting it purple and putting some flame decals on it.

The tubes I've recently been buying are usually made by Firestone (at least that's what's on the tube), and they're made in Vietnam. I haven't had any problems yet with these. C-85

If you have Black locust or other thorny plants it is easier to plug a tubeless tire than to demount and patch/replace a tube...
