Any motor can get water in it. Draining old oil on a motor new to you is probably one of the first steps if you are replacing an engine on your tractor.

I even sprayed some lubricant on the shifter bushings last night to help keep it shifting like it should. Catch that Greasy @peter lena Pete???

Some of you know or met my son James. He was having trouble passing a kidney stone while we were at the big show. Sunday evening he started feeling bad and running a fever. Monday and Tuesday he was not improving so when he seemed to be getting worse on Wednesday his wife drug him to the hospital. He had evidently passed an infected Kidney stone that caused a septic condition. After all the tests were done he had kidney infection, sepsis, pneumonia, and e coli. His white blood count was up to 36000, oxygen level in the 80s without oxygen. He was on iv and oxygen for three days. He finally got out of the hospital yesterday but will be on antibiotics for a minimum of twe weeks.

May be time to invest in a parts storage system.

Good rainy day project while I look at my fishing boat sitting in the rain . My 36RD needed some attention. New idler pulley from K and B Wheel Horse Parts @76c12091520h as well as a good overall greasing. Just an FYI…I sent K and B a PM a month before the show with a list of parts I wanted. Wanted new and not used. I got back an email saying all were available and the pricing. Said great, I’ll pick it all up at the show. When I show up at the K and B vender spot at the WHS there were all my parts in a bag ready to go! Great service! Highly recommend Ken and Brian!

Not gonna lie, there was a fair amount of sulking yesterday but I'm over it now. Nothing a little time & money won't fix. Gotta figure out if it's the stator, pick up or power box. I'll make the ole 45hp Mariner live again.

hi all, we took our great grandson last fall to Battleship Cove in fall river mass. there they have the USS Massachusetts. actual WW2 battleship (BB-59). they also have a destroyer, sub and a pt boat you can tour. when i was a kid just the battleship. he loved it. as a side note i applaud you navy guys who served on a destroyer. my impression was that thing is soooo small. how far out are we going in that little thing! yesterday we went to the Bradley air museum in windsor locks connecticut. lots of military and civilian aircraft to tour. the tour guide took a liking to the great grandson and let him sit in a bunch of the cockpits. he loved that! i highly recommend both of these places if you and your families are in the area. Hahaha, well, I calculated at 3.80 per gallon at 16mpg for 1220 mile round trip, it would be about 300 bucks. As tempting as some Mennonite rhubarb and shoo fly pie might be... I'll just zip apart the trans and see what I find. I'm just tried of tripping over it in my shed. Worst comes to worst, I'll have some nice hubs and I'll throw the gears on ebay. Quicker yes. But the aftermarket carburetor’s aren’t always good to go out of the box. Quite a few guys here have had to adjust and work on them right away. Personally I would prefer to have my original rebuilt. It’s also a great way to learn about the Kohler carbs.

I've had many kidney stones over the years, one this past winter, they suck. Two years ago while tedding hay in a very uneven field I started getting terrible kidney pain. I tried working through it because the friends I do hay with count on me doing the tractor work while they are at work. I have MS and can't do manual labour. I finally called my wife to come get me, she had to drive into the field to get me I got so I couldn't even drive the tractor, luckily one of my friends got out early and is strong. Wouldn't been able to get in the car with out him. Infected kidney stone I had many UTI leading up to that day. I was in the hospital for ten days on antibiotics. I've been on antibiotic since then. Infectious disease doctor was called in that saved my life. Infected kidney stone is very dangerous and life threatening.

Never, ever, tease anyone who has had to deal with a kidney stone. I feel for him. Worse pain I ever experienced. Nurse in the hospital told me she has done both childbirth and a kidney stone. Said she would do childbirth again.

@Tractor.man.hank just thought I would add some contraversy , never think that any used engine has had a good life . something that I regularly do , is a seperate gallon of heavely treated gas, drop fuel bowl , clean out the crud , verify oil statis , top up , start up engine and let it run , easily , advancing to a fast idle , intent is a hot engine oil flush . drop oil , like rotella 30 wt ,and rislone zddp zinc additive . add 4 oz of this with a measuring cup , 2 oz per qt of oil . start up and run in again , hot engine , running / sounding better , carb adjustments , just let it run at a fast idle , make adjustments , how does oil look ? you are doing a flush and establishing a baseline service . done this now on a number of engines , no engine smoke , sounds good , runs easily . also wright this down for the next owner , to hopefully keep this going . my 3 kohlers , run on this set up . it works . pete

So sorry , those kidney stones can be rough enough without infection. Thanks to Mrs. P for getting James the help he needed. Glad he's on the road to recovery.

Ross are typically splined shaft ends for the steering wheel. I too was thinking of using a Ross to offset the steering wheel to the side for 2 seats and dependability. Bought one a while back but never used it yet. I also have a big steering box from a large tractor but I guess it would depend upon how the build progresses as to which would be used. Big and beefy or slim and fast. Maybe a dropped hot rod looking truck and fast since I don't need it to necessarily work hard. The loader hoe is gone. Went out yesterday just to look for and maybe get some stuff together for a truck build but I was easily sidetracked again and worked on the new bike front suspension. Got the over camber out of it and toed out the wheels a little. Drives and steers much better than it did but still has some more tweaking to be done.

Keep your ground lead on a clean spot as close to your weld that you conveniently can. In other words shortest path for current to pas to the ground lead.

I had put a smaller transmission pulley on the 1467 Special for the show cruise. Of course as it always happens the throttle decided to stop locking as I drove it off the trailer. I knew it would be a PITA in the cruise to hold the throttle open. And a clothes pin vice grip idea was out because it would be too fast for conditions (traffic/kids). Bought a new cable at the show but I really didn't want to spend time there working instead of visiting/ buying. So today I removed the cable and took it apart and recrimped the ferrule thingy and got it locking again.I'll save the new cable for another time when it's needed.

When my local guy still sold Toro (no longer), I would usually go to the parts window and rattle off the part numbers I wanted. This would irk the counter guy - he "needed" a year, model and serial number... The owner would come by and "chat" - asking what ancient WH I was working on. Then he too would rattle off the same numbers.....Now the counter guy had a butt rash instead...!!

What reason was given for it needing replacement? I always try to rebuild mine if possible before I replace.

The cluster gear shaft is what the brake drum is on. Pretty simple to fix. Toss it in the Cadachevy. Drive to NY in August for the Steam Pageant. We'll tear it down and see what it needs and reassemble it so you know how it goes together. I'll supply the pie

It makes me wonder if it’s that bad hundreds of miles away, how bad it must be near the actual fires? I’ve fought plenty of brush fires with this truck and others just like it either driving or riding in the back.So I can imagine what those guys are going through. Although we do our best to go around trees, sometimes we have no choice but to push them over. It’s pretty incredible what these trucks are capable of.
