13 pointsSomething like this: Ran when parked. Custom exhaust system. Enhanced high flow air cooled engine compartment. Ready for plowing with variable edge wear bar in place and ready to roll snow. Ergonomic seat with air-pockets for increased comfort. Won't last long... at this price...

10 pointsHello everyone, Back with a new membership name after many many years away. So, I just re-acquired my Wheel Horse C-160 Automatic that I sadly and regrettably sold back in 2017. I had kept the phone number of the gentleman that bought it, and we were able to make a deal and he was very happy to sell it back to me. So happy my girl is back in the garage with me. It is quite a wonderful tractor, one that I use regularly and when I purchased it from a friend, he had a massive file including all original documents, bill of sale, service documents and even the original manuals for the tractor and all its implements. It even had the original hanging tag from the showroom floor lol. It runs wonderfully, and I am entertaining the ideas about paint restoration. I’ve been looking at all of the valuable knowledge on the forum and I am so happy to be here again. I just replaced the seat as rats had completely devoured the other one during its time at my friends place, and I will be attaching the armrests from the original seat when I get home. I might add some tractor tread style tires to the front… I always love that look. I had custom built a beautiful box scraper for it which is in need of some tender loving care and a new paint job… And soon the tractor will be back to work. Jason

8 pointsThis pole barn is 25 feet deep and 45 feet long. Last weekend I raised the grade of the end bay you see here about 7 inches, then put down these commercial grade retaining wall cap blocks as a floor to place all the stuff you see in the corner. Friday I went to Lowes building supply and bought the brackets you see on the back wall and installed them and put up the lumber and tractor tires and steel pipe. The next phase of this project is to raise the grade in that bay, it is 16 feet wide by 25 feet deep. Then there are two more bays to the left of that, to be raised at a later date, maybe in the Fall.

5 pointsI started dealing on this tractor last summer. The owners asking price was not bad but the timing was & I really didn't need another tractor. A few weeks ago he called me with a price that I could not turn down, bet @WHX?? can guess what the price was. So here are some pictures of the 1969 GT 14 that I added to my heard. A bunch of loose parts to go with it. The PO apparently did not like to take the hood off of the tractor so he was nice enough to add some access holes in the hood. One for dip stick, one for the gas cap. The hopefully good part is that there was some work done already. According to the PO the engine and transmission have been rebuilt already. The receipts that were in with the manual reflect this information. One concerning thing is that he said that he had never started the engine. Oh, & all the receipts that have a date on them have a date of 1996. The engine does spin over so I guess we will see. @ebinmaine ask if you all would be seeing a refresh on a GT 14 . Well there will be one some day, but not some day soon. For now it has changed from his "to do someday list" to my "to do some day list" Before I start doing any type of rehab on it I will get it running and driving. There was some added costs for this tractor. One spare wheel holder, one spare wheel, and one spare tire cover. They were all there when I left on this trip. Not there when I arrived at the PO's place. . I will be making, not purchasing my next spare wheel holder.

5 pointsOnce again, I find myself cleaning shop. I’ve been great at making the mess my whole life, terrible at taking care of it. I’m planning to wheel the car out while I wait for parts, and do a little Norman maintenance this afternoon before the Big Show Trek. Had me some smoked pig and scalloped taters for lunch, now it’s back to work time!

5 pointsThis is an early LTD-24 Dump Cart I bought in Oklahoma. The original owner purchased in 1958 from a Wheel Horse dealer still selling Toro products today.

5 pointsAn easy up is a great idea, if you have one. A bag chair or two is a great idea as well. Rain gear, summer gear, and extra space on your trailer!

4 pointsThat is a 1969 Chevelle Malibu. I have that one and an old 69 Chevelle drag car. Right now I have a 1966 Chevelle Malibu (454 big block / 4-speed) in the paint shop. It should get the last coat of primer this week, then painted. It will be finished after painting, buffing, waxing, and new chrome. In the meantime, I've been picking up things for the Chevelle you see here. Will probably start on it next Spring, after picking up more parts. I can't decide if I'm a Chevelle & Impala muscle car guy who also likes Wheel Horses, or a Wheel Horse guy who also likes Chevelle's and Impala's Either way, it's all good. BTW, I knew sooner or later someone from North Carolina was going to ask about that Chevelle in the pic LOL

4 pointsBusy as all get out today. AM we reorganized the new barn workshop. PM The Trina Momma came over and helped us make a new pathway to the forest and garden area. Turn volume up medium to high. Lots of engine noise but Trina's speaking throughout.

4 pointsIt was time yesterday to take a look at the 401 that I bought last fall. On my initial shake down I found that it would not stay in 3rd gear. I mean you could not even hold it in 3rd to drive it, it would force itself out of gear. The subject at hand. Fluid in the tranny looked awesome! Golly gee wiz Walley. I wonder why it wouldn't stay in 3rd?? I have not seen a set of these so bad in a while. I replaced these with a new 3rd gear and a good used input shaft/gear. Axles look rough where the outer bushings ride so I did an axle flip as long as I had it apart. Assembling the transmission was a bit of a challenge for me. These 3 piece tranny's sure don't go together like the 2 piece ones do. Finally won though then called it a day. Back at it this morning, started by bolting the tranny back in place. Back together, test drive showed all systems go. Ready for duty.

3 pointsGreat Eye! I fixed this last week… I removed the wheel hubs off of the axle and cleaned up some rust and so forth and they slid on beautifully. I’m gradually going through some things on it that needed a little bit of attention,

3 pointsI’ve had boats since I was around 14, always lived only a few miles from the bay and the ocean. Once while returning from sea with my wife and two young children aboard our 23’ Chris Craft it went on fire. We were approaching the mouth of the harbor where there were rocks on both sides when my wife noticed heavy smoke coming from under the engine hatch. She also has been a boater since she was a child, and quickly got the kids to the bow. She then dropped the anchor without me saying anything, so we wouldn’t drift into the rocks. I grabbed the fire extinguisher and opened the hatch, a little bit, but enough to give the fire more oxygen and it took off! I dropped the hatch and had to regroup. At the time I had already been a volunteer firefighter for probably 12 years and I will say that for a second it scared the crap out of me. Next I opened the hatch just enough to get the nozzle of the extinguisher 🧯 in and squeezed the trigger only a little while. The extinguisher I had was not the biggest and I knew if I didn’t put it out with that, we would be in trouble. I forgot to mention that this was mid October and the water is cold 🥶 so I dropped the hatch again after the initial shot and hoped I knocked down the fire. When I lifted it up again it appeared to be out but then vroom! It lit up but this time I was able to shoot the extinguisher directly at the source and put it out. Turns out that one of the main positive battery cables chaffed causing a direct short, melting a lot of stuff. One call for help and my father in law was quickly on scene with his boat. He was also an experienced boater but was clearly frazzled by the situation and cut in front of our boat wrapping up the anchor line in his prop!!! So he had to drop his anchor and jump in the cold water to untangle the rope. (Both boats had inboard/outboards) Luckily nobody was hurt and actual damage to the boat was minimal. Since that day on all my boats I always had several extinguishers, just in case! Being one of the captains of our fire department rescue boat I have several more boating stories but this one was probably the scariest. Here’s a picture of one nice evening we were out training.

3 pointsNot even close to the same scale of impending doom, but another lesson learned in preparedness: Dad and I used to fish the Mississippi for Sauger in the spring when the water was still cold and they would stage below the big navigation dams. As you can imagine, a river that size is powerful and unpredictable. Combined with lots of barge traffic and copious debris heading down river things can get out of hand in a hurry if you don’t have your wits about you. We’d launch on the Missouri side at Winfield and motor over to the Illinois side to fish along the shoreline. Immediately downstream of these dams the surface water is flowing downriver as you’d expect. But in select places just outside the main flow there can be a very strong upriver current that can sweep your boat back up under the spillway if you get caught in the wrong place or don't have enough engine power to overcome it. Certain disaster and occasionally you’ll hear of a victim getting caught under the dam and never being found. We’d motor up, let the boat drift or slip down river in the current seam. Sometimes we’d fish below the locks in the slack water and hurriedly get out of the way of the horn would sound that the locks were going to open and let a barge tow out. Usually the outboard would run all day long, but on occasion we’d shut it off for a drift. One or two pulls and she’d crank up for another run. We fished for several hours and had some nice keepers. We’d dodged barges and 100’ trees that would go barreling down river at random hovering just below the surface, ready to snag the the boat and drag it downstream. We ran back to the ramp and I dropped dad off at the dock so he could get the truck and trailer. He started talking to some guys in the parking lot so I killed the engine and floated in the harbor waiting for him. When I saw him coming with the truck I turned around and gave the rope a pull, and SNAP! The starting rope broke, leaving me dead in the water aside from the 28 lb thrust trolling motor. Had that rope broken below the locks or in the backwards current it could have been a bad day. After that, the 9.9 always got to ride along on the transom next to the main motor…just in case. Steve
