5 pointsWanted to introduce myself and thank the moderators for allowing me. I am in sepa with my third Wheel Horse a 98 one year wonder 73540 520xi. I started back in 95 with an 85 417a with plow, 48 mower, and trac vac and used that for 9 years and 300 hrs. It was a great machine wish I had pics of that one, it was pretty sweet. Then moved on to a very nice 520H anniversary which had a 48 deck 48 plow and 42 snowblower stout machine feels premium really nails the classic look. Didn’t put a lot of hours on it but had set it up the way I like. And now the main event. I had to sell the 52-H as I was in a bind and couldn’t store it the way it deserved. Then recently got the itch to try out an xi before there to far gone. I found this on marketplace it looked ok but like zero info on tractor, took a leap of faith. It has a 48 that has been welded but should clean up after a grinder and paint. It has 816hr and looks right to me. I cleaned it up a bit but picked up yesterday.

4 pointsVery random, but it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen any posts about sickle bar finds or pictures or restores. Are there any left? Too cool of an attachment. Wondering if I should start a “Sickle Saturday+Sunday.”

4 pointsNice to hear from you @ACman but no thanks ... tractor heavy ya know... Didn't get to look for one today... got a little busy... ya know wouldn't be so bad if I had some bros with mid mounts to come help and play in my sandbox... least they coulda done is bring their Tonka toys... @Shynon the 867 is getting a work out. She's the go to for now with the mid mount. Mid blade is by far the implement to have for building a driveway and trailer parking area.

4 pointsHey Jimbo @WHX?? how about a original 1057 to take home or a whole Charger 12 for parts .
-
4 pointsSmaller front tires, larger rear. And post in the pulling section. There may be some help there that the main forum is unaware of since we focus primarily on normal use of these tractors.
-
4 pointsHOLD ON!! Now your going to get him all confused. Won't know if he's looking for a belt guard for a tractor or a mower deck. What the heck, I'm in though.

4 pointsRick's headed the right direction here. There were also K582 (23 HP) and a larger one that's over "K6xx" (24 HP). I don't know the year range in total. Somewhere in the 50s and well into the 80s. I have a K582 for a tractor project and a 24 HP that is a generator similar to the one pictured above but painted blue. Do NOT be concerned about that. Many MANY people have repowered or completely engineered whole machines using "coveted Wheelhorse" pieces. I wouldn't disassemble a good machine and hesitate to modify good parts but I'd gladly save an old rusty machine from the salvage yard or rotting in a field. I'm quite sure @Achto @Pullstart @wallfish @Wild Bill 633 and dozens more who have built AMAZING customs would tell you the same. Build the hot rod. DO post it here. Many of us would LOVE to see it.

3 pointsAgreed... I have a project one that I should finnish. Problem is I might need a dedicated tractor to mount it on. Not that I am not up for another score but on the fence what would be the best model. I have a RJ front mount as well and should get it operational but do display it at shows.

3 pointsYes, the points are on the top near carb/manifolds/exhaust/etc. In my (a bit limited) experience with the twins is the coil is seemingly more prone to failure than the other K's. Just cked the bay and there are dozens of coils of the import types, all in the $25 range. If its been sitting then the points will at least need cleaning - prone to get a 'glaze?' on them. They are typical kohler in that its pretty basic/simple to ck for the spark and you shud be able to figure it out pretty easily .... might be better to NOT mention that youve found the spark problem to the seller And @ebinmaine is correct about the Harley coils --- some 10 yrs ago before the influx of the after mkt parts I had a K482 twin that had a bad coil and new was a whopping $280 .... I ran a $5 flea mkt Harley coil on it for a loooong time.

3 pointsIn one of those moments of laziness coupled with mindless can-do optimism, I thought I’d adjust the limits on one I was replacing “dynamically” - while it was energized. It might have worked if I’d used a plastic screwdriver! Instead it was a flash of failure. I still have the fried unit, which reminds me I intended to replace that contactor and have a mostly new working spare. That’s one dumb shortcut I won’t be attempting again.
-
3 pointsYep, most folks run an 8” wheel spindle and a 6” wheel. It’s the most effective way to lower the front of a for pulling.

3 pointsAshamed to say I've used heavy zip ties to hold a battery before... But that was a temp solution. I'm a telecom guy by trade, so zip ties are a normal thing in my world. When used to hold a gallon of flammable fluids over a hot running engine as a permanent solution? Not bad judgement, but just plain stupidity in motion!

3 pointsIf you are interested in it take along a good battery, a coil and a test light or meter. Clean up the points, unhook the condenser, check the gap to be about .020" see if 12 volts gets to the coil "+" anc check for spark. If there is no spark replace the coil and see if it will run on one cylinder. If it runs on one then change plug wires and see if it will run on the other cylinder.

3 pointsNot sure if the 1257 is same belt guard but here’s a pic of mine if you have one like this laying there.

3 pointsYa gave the BBT quite a chuckle there Jim. She'd like you to know that neither one of those is happening. Supposedly. P. S. I DON'T want kids but I'd gladly adopt another C160 or dozen. 😁

3 pointsBill Jenkins is a great guy, straight forward and always has quality stuff. I sure hope he is okay. Imo show won’t be the same without him there either.
-
3 pointsThere are some interesting designs if you don’t mind some artistic freedom. Sometimes though it’s all about the patina. I had that quandary with my 520H it had 534 hours decals were decent there were no surprises with that (other than tach shorting out on hood). I spent the money for a new seat. Which I am assuming will be shortly on this machine. I am dipping it in Armour all trying to soften it up.

3 pointsBtw EB ... I read your palm as long as it was showin... looks like either yer old lady is pregnant or there is another in your future... congrats either way...

2 pointsNot the best pictures, but here’s mine. It took a little modification to make it work on my C-121 8 speed, also had a broken yoke in the wobble box when I got it. Welded it back together and it’s good to go.I just looked for the pictures and saw that it’s been parked there for over 3 years! Guess I better get it out, even though I have absolutely nothing to cut with it!
-
2 pointsHave you tried using a generic Harley coil? @pacer can you share where you were finding them?

2 pointsI learned something today. Jada taught me that my pants don’t actually need to be under my butt to get my plumber’s crack on! Good news #2! We have water pressure again! Notice the melted contactor on the left side of the old switch. Luckily, it failed open instead of closed.

2 pointsGive the bendix drive a good cleaning with some break cleaner and then a shot of graphite lubrication. Also check the tightness of the mounting bolts. Either of these can make perfectly good a starter sound like it is a goner.

2 pointsIt seems Xi tractors have quite a bit of attention here lately. As always, I’d highly recommend raising the frame up with your jack and inspecting the front axle pivot. With the swept axle design, you can’t get a true feel for it’s wear with weight on it.

2 pointsLast night I applied some Chelsea Leather Food I have imported from Kettering, England to my Harley Davidson riding boots. ( Instructions say apply and let sit overnight ) Today after work I polished them. Then I figured my Harley Davidson Engineer’s riding boots ( @Pullstart ) and the Florsheim Wing Tips could use a little elbow grease too… So I put some Chelsea Leather Food, imported from Kettering, England on them as well. Tomorrow after work I will buff them. Which got me to thinking… “Seriously, how often do you really look at a man’s shoes?” Who knows what movie the above quote is from, and what character said it ? No cheating…

2 pointsThree hours of mowing and sweeping for the 312H. The three days of rain upset my mowing schedule. More rain tomorrow.

2 pointsWell we've been pretty on the past edge of ridiculous busy for a few days but we've got a few more things done on the Millie tractor. Here's the mid mount hitch sent up by @Lee1977 Trina got a few small parts painted and installed such as this belt guard she repaired with spare parts off the shelf. Also above is the choke bracket we borrowed from another engine while we find one for this. Trina got the brake and clutch linkage all corrected and back on. One bolt broke so we'll have to address that when we get back from Zagray. Also seen above is the location of the starter solenoid. I've been working on building a whole new wiring harness over the last couple weeks. I like to use plenty of zip ties to keep it in place and away from other pieces. Trina added the fuel filter and lines. We got the fuel tank in place this evening. Next session we'll finish connecting that. In order to get this tractor in the 5 x 8 trailer we'll have to set it in sideways across the back. To reduce width and length we changed the rear tires for a set of fronts I keep for Cinnamon Horse. That uses 5 lug rims. At the show(s) we'll pop the other set back on. Note the BBT "half face" selfie.....
