with the bomb storm coming , got in a few hours on the generator , armature nice and warm , quick start up , was just a good time to verify , just in case, saposed to get very heavy rain and ground run off, all lights, fridge , sump pump ,furnace ,lighting , water pump, microwave . ready , pete

@Slippery local h/w store should have a good supply , don't expect to pick up the exact size / type, personally , always have small steel round stock on hand to adapt to any spring , situation look for an extension spring , with the same winding size , cut and bend up the end connections with 1/8 " steel round stock , like a long " S SHAPE " . been doing that for years . piece of cake , pete

Here is my 1960 Suburban 400 repowered with a Predator 212 non-hemi version. After removing the factory tank and exhaust from the engine and modifying the stock air filter lid, the engine went right in without issue. The mounting bolt holes are spot on. The hole spacing for the stock belt guard was perfect. For the exhaust I used a stainless steel flange to 3/4" NPT adapter purchased from eBay to convert the exhaust from the stock two bolt flange type to NPT, the adapter also came with the muffler I used...was around $45. From there I just used standard black steel 3/4" NPT fittings and I believe a 12" section of pipe to get the exhaust to the front. I did have to use a 1" spacer between the exhaust pipe and clamping surface because the was a larger gap than with the original K91 engine exhaust. The exhaust shield I used is actually a reproduction unit purchased again from eBay for roughly $40. The stock airbox was modified by cutting off the top leaving the section that actually holds the filter in, and the using sheet metal sealed with black RTV then pop riveted to the stock filter top. This particular air filter draws its air from the bottom. I wanted a more factory looking filter box than using an exposed pod filter that would be affected by the elements. In place of the stock fuel tank I used sheet metal to cover the governor of the engine and to give a more factory appearance. Other than that I hooked up the fuel system and throttle cable. Nothing special or specific needed other than longer fuel line. This engine setup is smoother, more powerful and easier to start.

Similar to the setup I'm doing on the Automatic restoration.

Yo Slippery - you MAY be able to do a "I need it now fix" using a short piece of steel coat hanger to get you thru. Bend up a circle of hanger, use a pair of side cutter pliers to open up the spring 2 or 3 coils past the break - fish the hanger in, twist it off to make a loop. Reattach the spring & check for function. BT,DT.

Grease is the Word.

Flying through Chicago Thursday morning but will be taking off again at 9:20 a.m. ahead of the snow. No snow where I am going - El Paso for Christmas and Houston for New Years.

The weather people are calling for 2 to 5 inches of snow, BUT, the wind chill is going to be around 35 below zero. NOPE, staying in the house !!

I have used hand warmers in the past with success. I have a pair of glove /mittens with a zipper pocket that holds a hand warmer on the back of the fingers. The front half of the mittens flips open to expose the gloved fingers for shooting. I tried heated insoles this winter for the first time. They are peel and stick to the outside of the sock. I had one bunch up and made it uncomfortable, but they did keep my feet warm. I will use them and be careful to loosen the boot strings so they slide in easier.

Understood Pete. The nice thing about these horses is the fabrication that is possible from all of the great members we have assembled here. Being able to go to a Hardware Store and make or find what you need is priceless. Put a little grease on it and it becomes a piece forever. Don't stop doing what you do.

you may be able to bend a new eye in the end to get you back in service till you find one. I have no W H snowblowers so will have to wait for someone with experience with them to respond. Bob

I can't get anywhere near that kind of a bargain around here. Timing either. I've been making a few phone calls over the last couple weeks trying to find a machine shop that can do this for me. Best I can come up with is a 2-month wait time and charges approaching $200 to make a groove in two axles. That's just not gonna happen. If I'm not satisfied with the grooves I can make by hand I'll just order a couple of good used axles from Lincoln at A To Z.

Original Tractor Cab Co recommends on the vinyl portions use of a rag, hot or cold water, and with or without liquid soap. On the windows, avoid contact with plastic windows. Clean them by washing with clear running water and by rubbing with your bare hands, only. Liquid soap during freezing weather. Automotive windshield washer solvent may be used.Do not clean windows when plastic is dry.The plastic will scratch. @peter lena mentioned a 303 protectant for the vinyl I think. He may chime in. Yes it is Richard...Took one to a shop once. $200 minimum set up charge. I since married a tractor bro who has a mill.

Not saying I have ever done this but have you considered slipping an old hub on the axle, locking it down with a set screw, clamping the hub down squarely in your drill press and slowly running a 1/8" drill bit between the hub and the axle then moving up to 3/16" and finishing with a 1/4" drill bit to act as a starter channel. The cast iron hub will be softer and the drill may wander that way but it would remove the bulk of the material and be nice and straight. I just took an axle to our one and only machine shop for a key way and they said it will be ready in a few days and should be about $ 50.00. With the cost of those dermal cut off wheels I think that is a good buy.

Originally it was the regulator and ammeter. The ammeter often gets swapped out for a voltmeter. My 76 here.

I had a 604 try and drag me under the rear end when I was a kid so I know that hurt and it sucks especially as a child. Didn’t stop me though I love garden tractors and still have that same 604 🤷

What a wonderful example of caring charity you got and lived. When my son and DIL had our first grandchild here to visit, I would regularly change her. At first, though, my DIL was skeptical. Then my son explained: "He learned how when he was 10 and his youngest brother was born and of course he also did plenty as my sisters and I were growing up. He knows what to do." Then she relaxed. Gotta make allowances for new mom's right?

After dinner last evening, I noticed Mrs K holding her jaw. She said her jaw ached. I checked her pulse at 186. I called my local urgent care facility and was told to take her directly to the hospital emergency entrance and they would inform them we were coming. I gave her 4- 86mg, aspirins to chew and headed for the local hospital. When we arrived, they were waiting with a wheel chair and wheeled her to a room with 4 nurses and two doctors that immediately plumbed and wired her to a monitor. EKG, IV, oxygen, and slapped on two defib pads as the MD said, just in case. Her pulse was hovering around 180-190 and her BP was low and dropping. They tried a physical procedure where they had her sitting with legs out straight and had her blow hard for 15 seconds and the four nurses quickly flipped her back with legs straight up. This is a procedure to create a blood rush to the brain and trick it into sending a signal for the heart to slow down. They tried this 2x with only a minor drop in the pulse. Next step was an injection of adenosine that dropped her pulse from 180 to 60 in 2-3 seconds and brought her BP up to 110. The heart was pumping normally again. Rapid heart rate( Supraventricular Tachycardia) triggered by an electrical mix up of signals between the brain and heart is a fairly common problem in older females. Many thanks to the York Hospital and the Wellspan Health Care System. Mrs. K is fine and took her 97yo mother shopping and to lunch as she does every Wed. I am fortunate that this lady agreed to marry me 60 years ago and is with me today. Keep hugging those loved ones.

I've made my own spark plug wires from a kit before also. Probably 30 years ago or more.... it was easy. And of course, it was cheaper, that's why I did it. Come to think of it, I should look for one of those kits myself. Some of my problems on one or more tractors could be at least partly because of bad wires. Best to eliminate that possible culprit early in the game.

@Slippery If you want to stay orginal check with Lowell he may have that spring. K&B horse parts might too.

thanks to all your help . I do have a heated garage and it is set to 45 degrees so I think I will try the hair dryer , or the warm water and soap as I have them items. then if no good will try one of the other things. Merry Christmas to all

Just put a new belt on the 520H 44" two stage blower. So we are ready. Hubby smoked the old one in the wet snow last week. But it was 27 years old and I had it on the big pulley. My bad. LOL I will post pictures. We'll see if this is the Storm of the Century. LOL

Check with the MI forestry dept. Here they offer seedlings for such stewardship efforts. Might have to buy in bulk tho.

If the cab has been left out in the sun I'm not too sure it will ever become very soft again. Meguiars makes some good automotive vinyl/rubber conditioner that may be helpful.
