7 pointsTold a friend I would tube her front tire off her WH 310 that goes flat every couple days. The tractors a 1987 and so is the tire. I was assuming it was an 8” which is the smallest my Harbor Freight tire contraption is supposed to handle. But nope..it was a 6” front. Talk about tough to dismount, insert the tube and remount!! I broke both beads but only peeled one side off the rim. I was wiped out after wrestling with it in the garage. It’s small size and the fact that it was old just made it worse. In the end I won

7 pointsAbout a week ago I had decided to go with 8" rims on my 312-8. I had the idea to die-cut threads on the end of the axles then use castle nuts with cotter keys. I think it has gone well. Although my second nut seems to have an issue with the starter threads. I'll chase them out or get a new nut. Let me.know your thoughts.

6 pointsPicked up a 48" plow from @ebinmaine over the weekend, solid unit other then some lower blade rust so i paired the rust and ordered some new decals from @Vinylguy like i do any of my projects big or small and got a part or 2 from wheelhorsepartsandmore. So woth some new paint decals and parts this plow will be as good as new. Somthing ive wanted for sometime now so looking forward to trying it out on my 314-8.

6 pointsStandard procedure. All connectors are cleaned, replaced if needed, and packed full of di-electric grease before reassembly. The engine harness connector is replaced with Deutsch DT & DTP connectors. The Deutsch connectors are the only not original items on the tractor. I’m trying to keep this one original as possible.

5 pointsJust pulled this tractor from my late father-in-law's barn and got it running and cleaned up. 1980-81 with an 8 horse Brigg's motor. In fantastic condition. Anyone have any idea of it's value? Thanks

5 points… tire shop that it is. We’ve had Norman for 4 years. The Bridgestone on it were installed a mile after purchase. I sent ‘em to rubber heaven on the way to the shop!

4 pointsSome of mine are from the '60s and some from the mid 70s. Strangest thing is when I'm wiring the ones from the '70s the safety switches seem to relocate themselves somehow. Haven't been able to find them since. Similar syndrome to when you put six socks in the washing machine and only five come out. But around here there's only adults operating the tractors and only under the supervision of me or Trina on the very very rare occasion someone else gets on it. I did leave the pedal switch in place on my one Automatic and I also will leave the switches in place on the Wallyho backhoe tractor because I think those two are appropriate to leave them.

4 pointsSame here EB. Fortunately the sixties tractors I favor have no safety switches and wiring is easy peasy. A 520 now a different story. Everything is buried and quite difficult to get at. @dclarke knows he did a frame off 520 and rewired everything. He used Deutsch connectors for some circuits. Hats off to Bow for taking on a 520 rewire. BTW guy I have some 520 harnesses if it helps ya.

4 pointsA 37" two-blade deck was used on some 308, 310, and 312's. And it would fit 314, 416, and 500's, but you can't turn left with 8" front wheels. A good feature of this deck was an available rear bagger system that used a winged blade on the right side to give more push to clippings. I have one on a 312-H that does a passable job of vacuuming leaves in Fall.

4 points@ri702bill regularly use those electrical bolt on lugs as a bolt / mount ground go to , there are so many opportunities for ground / electrical failure , its just looking right at you . use those alligator wire test leads for verify as you go set ups , if you have a bolt , to go to add a solid connection . my original wiring set ups were at best at mess , when I switch on now , its solidly instant . you know what I mean , pete

4 points@Bow_Extreme https://www.mmnewman.com/product/nylon-heli-tube-spiral-wrap/ regularly use this type of wire protection , for any wire runs , also do not hesitate to REROUTE WIRING , avoid tight bends and chafing , WHY NOT ? also verify connection / function at every stage , do not build in a surprise. use the battery cable ground bolt point as your secure / verified ground start . DO NOT COUNT on original factory set ups , why ? too many connection spots that can can be rusty , cracked broken , experience talking there , make every stage solid . pete

From Maryland to Michigan, this is from the journey home. @phil bowling and his good buddy Scott picked it up from @Sodaking27 Don’s place for me and stored the load at Scott’s farm for a bit. Scott’s hi-lo was a huge help loading! Phil was a great spotter and helper! At this point, I’m wondering what I got myself into… But we weren’t finished loading yet! Almost finished.. And finally done!

4 pointsWelcome - nice work. Not the easiest thing to cut a 3/4" fine thread using a die by hand. Two things come to mind - it is almost impossible to get a clean die engagement if the end of the spindle is not chamfered or undercut first. ( you can afford to loose that first thread anyway) And, you need a sharp die with a decent cutting oil - along with steady hands.... Bill

3 pointsJim, I was lucky enough to find a N O S wiring harness for that 520 so it wasn’t too difficult to replace. Otherwise it’s a real pain.

3 pointsDeck drive belt idler pulley when engaged should be rubbing out the Lawn Ranger decal. The scuff mark above the decal shows a too long belt was used at sometime. Fuel line for my L107 has run through the shroud for 55 years with out a problem....

3 pointsNope... not at all... got REAL sick of taking top of carb off to clean jet to stop surging. Plus that Onan is just an expensive over-rated setup in my opinion. A C160-8 with a Kohler K341 is in my opinion the only way to fly

3 pointsAll true. 'tis money makes the world go 'round... I was a Briggs guy 'til I got into Wheelhorse. Now I have No doubt Kohler is the engine with the better reputation for long lasting. Parts are an interesting subject with the older Techs. Nowadays we know the carbs from easily obtained web sources that fit the OE Kohler can be adapted. Ignition can be rebuilt on big blocks with modern components. Not sure on small blocks. I'd be curious to see how availability is for internal engine pieces for the OHV160.

3 pointsLook at it as a wiring tuning up. Diagnosing decades-old electrical systems, especially if problems are intermittent, can be painful. Upgrading with new wire and connections is a no-brainer for me when I have the time to do it.

2 pointsIf both cylinders fired at the same time, "there'd be a whole lotta shakin goin on!" Plugs fire together but cylinders fire 180° apart. spark is wasted.

2 pointsThe sending units on the WH tanks fit into a separate opening on the tank. Nothing fancy, but the plastic around it was molded smooth so the gasket would seal properly. A while back @Ed Kennell found a source for sending units of different sizes and with adjustments for different sending voltage ranges but I can't find the thread just now. Gauges are about $25 new all over the net.

2 pointsWow and I thought I was a 520 hog.. I had five but give one to Dan just to share the misery. Might be mistaken EB but same tank across the 3 4 500s. Take a 520 tank with the sending unit and slide it under a 300 and add the gauge & appropriate wiring.

2 pointsWe had a '73 12 Auto here that I was dismantling for parts. The ignition switch has been replaced with a 4 position automotive switch and ALL the wires were hacked off at the end. Uninsulated butt connectors everywhere. Just. Silly. The cost of all that garbage was likely twice that(+) of a correct plug n play switch.

2 pointsI just don’t understand why people mess with original stuff like wiring. It’s one thing to replace a wire because it’s worn or frayed but to turn what once was neat and organized into a rats nest is beyond me.
