Even with the windy day I couldn't resist taking her outside for a run after I was done

Had plenty of things to do outside today, but the Oklahoma wind had other ideas. So instead I spent the afternoon in the basement workshop building a set of skids to display my Maytag Twin. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, considering this was my first set of these to build.

Dan's @Achto mom peacefully passed away today. She was ninety two and had a good life. She was always in attendance at most of our regular shows and always a hoot to talk to. She loved to tell us about her days working at the cookie factory. I asked her once what was her secret to longevity was and she replied "two beers at night" Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

    ### Squonk (Mike Chasse) told me a neat trick for making old tires pliable and ready for mounting on steel wheels. Use DL hand cream (creamy no pumice). I bought a very early new old stock Goodyear set for one of my RJs. This stuff really soaks in the rubber.

Backyard hammer mechanic quick fix suggestion. No expensive machining or replacement parts. The axles and hubs are already damaged anyway so... Still leaves a way to remove them for any future service if necessary. Do 2 holes 180 deg apart if you're so inclined but I wouldn't do any new holes near the existing key location.

Got some parts etch primed today for the work horse. It was all stripped to bare metal because of the rust. Next will be several coats of primer then wet sand it smooth. Hopefully the black and grey will be done by spring and I can start wiring in the onan.

Talking about avoiding ethanol fuel. Did some work on my diesel project. Raised the steering wheel a good 4.5" Steering is super tight, this machine can't have many hours on it.(even though it looks all rusted up)

Squeaky clean! ( And if you make the mistake of putting Vaseline in your hair for "Greaser Day" it will get that out too!) Coat the tire and rim when mounting them too.

Thank you all for the condolences. Mom was a very fun person with a good heart who will be greatly missed. She put up with as well as instigated a lot of fun stuff in her life time. Today she joins her favorite partner in crime, my Dad. They were married for 65yrs before my dad's passing. I've been preparing myself for this misfortune for some time but it still isn't easy.

All: If you have to make part #20, I strongly suggest you explore the option of installing 1/2" Heim Joints instead of doing the 90-degree tight bends. I did this last fall, NO regrets. Perhaps @peter lena and @ebinmaine can add their thoughts. NO more fiddling with washers and either hairpin clips or cotter pins. Replaceable if they wear out - What's not to like ??

If it were me, shop space wouldn't be an issue, because I'd put the blast cabinet outside on the downwind side of everything. Doesn't matter how well it seals up, you're gonna have dust and sand on everything. Now if you can afford a large evacuator, you can put one in the kitchen. Of course the wife may object just a tiny bit...

Marketplace is killing me...I find a C-175 roller I must have! Upon inspection it has a 4 speed but the price is right. In order to stuff it in the back of my my Pathfinder, I drop the tranny and the 2 halves fit and I take it home. My plan is to make a round hood clone on a large frame but change direction after seeing it. Now with a stretched hood, two small Predators could fit but I'm unable to set the fan gear back without incorporating a chain set up, nix that idea. And a universal joint would not work. What I did next I highly recommend. I added a couple of flanges to the steering and now it is rock solid. It's better than building a strong tower. I highly recommend beefing up the steering. Next comes the drive train, body work or set it aside and find out why my K341AS will only start with a jump.

I and the BBT went hiking yesterday with a friend. Burnt Meadow Mountain in Brownfield, Maine. Temp was about 25, 27 at the base. Some colder and more wind at the peak. Not a huge hill by our standards but a great start to the hiking season.

Any decent machine shop can cut new keyways for both- though it may be expensive. I'd stay away from woodruff keys. Straight .250 key slots will work better on both sides.

I want to build a subsoiler but I couldn't figure out how to make it strong enough to be useful without a top center link. I also don't want to damage the rear end. I got my inspiration from Dick's @953 nutthread with his narrow front end 953.

I disagree sir! I love seeing parts cleaned up and prepped for paint! Now of course the best thing is when you string up the wind chimes of painted parts!

Been about a week and a tough one at that. Two hospitals later and physical recovery is going ok from the heart, pneumonia issues. Unfortunately Alzheimer’s has shown its cruel presence arriving uninvited, quickly , and relentlessly. The decline from day to day is hard to comprehend. He can no longer be independent and left on his own. Tough hard to make choices and decisions riddled with feelings of guilt , confusion and heartache. He has a young woman who has been his caretaker for the past ten years starting with Mom back then. I have no idea what I would have done without her now. An incredible example of what a good decent kind human being she is. This is also taking a terrible emotional toll on her for this really stopped being a job for her many years ago. We are blessed to have her in our lives .

This is one of those topics that could go sideways real fast. Which is to say; yes, and it’s only getting going in earnest, and that’s why I’m stockpiling Wheel Horses as an inflation hedge! My wife doesn’t believe that, oddly enough.

Today's progress... Got a couple coils in the mail that can be used on this or other Kohler twins. I popped the alternator off and used 2 sheet metal screws to pry out the old crank seal. New seal in place. Flywheel on and torqued. Time to hand sand/plane the cylinder heads. Found a nice flat piece of steel. Taped 120 grit to it. I go about 60 or 80 strokes in a direction, turn 90⁰. Repeat. This is after a couple or three rounds. You can see the shiny spots where the paper is starting to cut in. This is after going roundy round for a bit. Still a bit to go... I'll run the 120 grit until very near all the old dark metal is gone. Switch to 220. Might do a round or 3 at 400 grit just for kicks. It really is time consuming and tiring but also satisfying knowing it'll be straight on once again.

If you are able to make that screen change shape with air pressure, I'm going to take a guess & say that it is plugged. Air or fluid should pass through that screen as easily as air through a window screen. Pull the valve out & either clean the screen with some brake cleaner or rip it off & let the in line filter do its job.

Never having any experience or any interaction with anyone with this condition, it is very confusing if not disturbing dealing with it. The constant back and forth switching from reality to non reality within a second and without any warning is a devastating thing to watch. All of that with such a “ normality” that I sometimes even wonder if I am just not getting the conversation. Incredibly many times in the reality moments it is like he knows that his mind was just before lost somewhere else and brings up important things such as where the will is and where the properties deeds are located. All of that always with a sense of urgency and even panic. Like telling me all he can before he no longer can come back to reality. This is an absolute devastating thing to watch . I have never felt so helpless in my life. I have always been able to help many people in my life and improve or help with their difficulties from my wife’s illness to a son’s addiction being the most important ones , but there is nothing that I can do to help my father with this. It’s very hard to witness this happening as I look in his eyes.

I turn mine off. I got burned terribly at work once because of it. I had to IM a lady in another state about a record process that I had never done before. I meant to type "are you busy", but autocorrect made it "are you busty", and you can't edit the dang thing. I dang near died. VERY embarrassing in a corporate environment to say the least. Thank God she had a sense of humor. She replied "not really, but no complaints yet"...

I have a tank to repair on my 753. What I plan on doing is sandblast the area clean and weld it completely solid. Then I can drill and tap the area. Like the factory did with the 701 tank. To weld it I plan on using these rods. https://www.harborfreight.com/8-piece-low-temperature-aluminum-welding-rods-44810.html Can be done with a common propane torch. I've used these rods in the past with good results.

I used to window shop and then I would have the old lady contact them if wanted to buy something. Then she started asking questions like "you need this why?".

Spent some time in the shop today degreasing parts & then running them through the blast cabinet. Nothing real exciting to show, just a pail full of parts that are ready for paint.

In the cab of the IH. Lyle was her husband whom I had never met, he passed in '14 or so before I married Dan. He was a collector of both big and small and thankfully his small but eloquent collection has been passed down to Dan and his brothers.

I should have taken more pictures but here’s what I have. I stripped everything down to bare metal, three coats of primer three coats of color and three coats of clear. I don’t mean to highjack this thread but hey you asked for it😂😂

Unlike tractors, they’re small enough to easily accumulate in quantity, so why not? Didn’t you pick that one out of the trash? I had an old McCulloch for which I couldn’t get parts. Apparently they got into a period in which the number of distinct parts exceeded their ability to catalog and/or produce them. They complexificated the brand into extinction or something. I like my Stihl; it’s reliable and parts (rarely needed) are readily available. Some of the old timey saws are incredibly cool machines, like this monstrosity:

I like @wallfish’s idea. I recently did this to a front steering arm/spindle assembly. It tightened things so well.

Got the new holes drilled, ground, hacked into the seat springs and did a test fit… then I went to sanding the seat hardware. Found a crack in the seat bracket that will have to be welded…

Ok now I know what you're working on. I see them bent all the time. I tear them out and use a good filter in the line.

Also depends on the height of cut setting. Set for a close shave wheels will probably clear the ground when deck was raised.

Still tinkering what I am going to do with the front hood bracket I went on, raising the steering wheel. I had to cut the steeringwheelshaft anyway so I did it while still in the tractor. That way I could use the vise to get the steering wheel off. It went off with a breeze! I am using all recycled materials I had 3 different pieces so I was scared about it not ending up all strait, used the vise and a yardstick. welding it in the vise so it wouldn't warp. Came out as strait as can be! I was surprised as well and the fitment came out great too!

Disclaimer I have 6 Charger Electros love them... Hydro control valve was is not original but should be OK. I do not see the electric PTO but neither do I see a switch for it on the instrument panel. Should be where the black plug is under ignition switch. Muffler is not original and it may interfere with a snow blower. Will also be an issue if you want to convert to a tachmatic. Brake pedal is lying to far forward. The return spring is probably broken. (It is a bear to replace daveoman66 has a neat external fix for it) Has the breakerless ignition system which works great..until it doesn't (sort of a binary function) I have 3 with it and i like it no points /timing issues. It has the limited slip differential which is great for snow plowing. 12 hp isn't ideal for snow blowing but it will work. How does the deck look???

not anything like competition pulling, just would like better traction for daily use, lots of hills and off camber terrain around my place. I can usually just shift my weight around to make do, but I'm limited to how much I can load in the trailer if I'm having to pull uphill. Don't really want to switch to Ag tires because it's also used on turf. I remember the old 2810 ford my FIL had back in the day, it had a heel lever to lock it up, something like that would be useful. But now as I sit here and type this out, it dawns on me with what I'm doing it's probably best it does slip, I almost flipped that ford when I had a big drag disc hung up in deep compost pile.

After a little more searching on Then & Now Automotive’s website I was able to find the fuel pump kit you need. Their part number is AC-4S-VAC. It looks like it contains everything you’ll need! -JD-

I picked up a work bench at the auction. I needed one for my two Grand Nephews when they come to visit. It was missing a wrench, so I had to muster all my limited woodworking skills to make a wrench.
