12 pointsTodays fun adventures. I ended up finding some kinda good news and some not so good news. I'll start with the good news. I cracked open the tranny to see how much damage the water had done. Pleasantly surprised when I opened it up. As I suspected, I don't think the water has been in the transmission very long. The water did lead me to open it up though and I did find a couple of gears that I will want to replace. Every thing has been degreased and is patiently waiting for some seals, a couple of bearing and a couple of gears. The not so good. I pulled the head to de-carbon it and see what kind of shape the cylinder was in. Well with this amount of piston wash it would need a re-ring job at the very least. Then I pulled the piston to find this nice little surprise inside of the cylinder. After taking measurements, here are the results that I came up with. The bore measures up well, less than .001" variance in the bore but the rough spot will have to be machined out. Will have to go at least .010" over to fix that issue. Measured the crank pin only to get more disappointments. The crank pin is .003" out of round. Sooo, that will have to be turned down to fit a .010 under sized rod. I have the block stripped down and it is patiently waiting for parts and a trip to the machine shop. A few disappointment's today but I won't let them get me down. The build must go on.

7 pointsYou ever notice how many of the posts here would make great T shirt slogans for folks in our hobby?

6 pointsNot too soon to think about the Big Show in Pa. Hopefully, I'll be bringing a "few" completely rebuilt Kohler engines for sale. What will you bring to sell or trade? And what are you looking to buy?
-
6 pointsSome good comments above to consider… but at the end of the day It’s yours - do what you’d like…

6 pointsI am here now. Have to see tomorrow what is going on. I hear that on top of everything he has pneumonia too. He is under quarantine since he was moved to another section. Normal thing here they are terribly strict with COVID precautions. I am going to have to be tested every time I go in and that is by appointment only. Information also very hard to get. I miss the good old US already.

5 pointsJust got done catching up on this project over on your YouTube channel. That thing is wicked awesome. And the speed in which you have gotten it all put together amazes me. If you ever get bored you're welcome to come to Oklahoma and help get the two seater knocked out Or maybe @ebinmaine could use some help getting Colossus built

5 pointsHad to swap a wheel bearing tonight. Had these lying around. Probably overkill for these little tractors, but outta last a while... Direct axle contact, but over an inch wide. We'll see how they do.
-
4 pointsYep, my thoughts exactly. I think of it this way... if this is something that he is going to do... he isn't going to get any better advice anywhere else than Redsquare. Don

4 pointsHard to believe a Magnum is hard to start. My 310-8 is my most dependable. I'll bet a primer bulb would solve the hard starting. And unless it smokes like a freight train, that Magnum will outlive anything Predator makes about 5 times over. Your tractor of course. Just my two cents.

4 pointsI used to love winter, now I love when those that like it get it. Sounds like you have some experience, so I won't ask anymore about newB stuff. I've had engines just get hot and seize, but if you shut them off right away, they will turn after they cool. Got some good guys looking after you when you get warmer. Welcome to Red Square

4 points@Snoopy11 Don, just a suggestion, but why don't you try editing your post to add the next thought you got 1 minute later. It sure would make it a lot easier to follow. Give it a try.

4 pointsHappy Valentine Day to one and all. Hope ya fella‘s didn‘t forget the Flowers, otherwise the honeydo list increases much... 🤫

4 pointscoming on 40 years with the c-85 / magnum , plowing snow with that is so much easy fun , its ridiculous , but the slow plow slide off is the real deal. aerosol super lube stays with the blade , and the snow just slides / rolls of that with out effort . no struggling with it , just easy slide off. after my driveway , just started plowing down the shed areas , had 6 to 8 " snow , last night . recommend this simple gain on your plowing , many hours on it . worth a try , keep it slick , pete

4 pointsThere was some sort of a hitch welded on there. I cut it off right after I got the tractor, had for got about the remnants until I took it apart.

4 pointsNope, no time for games! I'll take this safe bet... it's the early birds that make the O/T happen!

4 pointsI wasn't going to... but I'm just going to say it. It isn't political. I haven't watched the NFL since kneeling for the flag began. I am proud to be an American. Has nothing to do with politics. I love my country. I love my fellow Americans. I love our flag. Tears come to my eyes when I hear the national anthem. 'nuff said. Don

3 pointsA vacuum pump is just as bad about dumping fuel in to the crank case.
-
3 pointsYes. I can turn the pump off and run the carb dry. I don't have a Wheel Horse still like it came from the factory all mine have been modified.
-
3 pointsNot really. All he wants is to know is if: He isn't actually restoring/modifying it in this thread. @Ifixoldjunk... if you want to see some inspiration... check this out... https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/profile/26650-snoopy11/?tab=field_core_pfield_17 Don
-
3 pointsThat's not fair. If this is something that @Ifixoldjunk wants to do... then what is wrong with making something awesome? I would advise against going with something REALLY extreme... but I don't see anything wrong with making something awesome if he wants to? Don

3 pointsAt 3200 RPM and 3/4 forward motion, the blade tips on my blade are traveling at 3 MPH. Unless I'm in a hard turn...then the leading tip is traveling at 3.02 MPH.

3 pointsLike you all don't already know.... I've got it made. I ain't married but I'm extremely happily occupied. We don't celebrate Valentine's Day or most other holidays. No jewelry. No gifts. No flowers. No BS that it wasn't the right thing. We sometimes occasionally might possibly spend a few bucks for each other's birthday on a well thought out usually homemade piece and that's it throughout the year. The honey do list is HERS. I absolutely WOULD wash tractor and equipment parts in the bathtub if I needed to and so would she. Luckily for both of us we have a utility sink, a pressure washer and a parts washer and for that matter a whole backyard. There isn't any difference in the life of a Bear and a BBT when other folks are celebrating their special days. Everyday is your special day... All of you have an amazing day. All of you hug somebody you love. All of you live life and be happy and appreciative everyday like it's a holiday, every day.

3 pointsIn an out movement of up to 1/8" on the axles is OK any up down front to back movement and you have a bearing issue.
-
3 pointsYeah that would have been a good height but then you got to think the metal would probably end up bending.
-
3 pointsThere was some angle iron cobbled on there with a ball hitch for a trailer. The hitch may have been at a good height for a trailer but the strength would have never been much.

3 pointsJust a fyi If you have a rural king near you, they sell kohler synthetic blend 10w30 with zinc for 5.99 a quart Also, if you have amazon you can order a 12 pack of that same oil (works out to about the same price per quart) 6 dollars isnt that much for a quality oil, that is a synthetic blend, and has your extra zinc I buy it on amazon by the case (12) and run it in my c141, 417A, and now my 520H. I even have it in my 2018 toro grandstand mower and my yamaha golf cart It seems to last forever. Golf cart i change 2 times a year. My toro grandstand it every 50 hours, and the garden tractors i shoot for 25 hours, but mostly just check the level and condition. If its darker brown it gets changed

3 pointsI use primer bulbs on anything with the fuel tank under the seat. Briggs, Kohler, Onan makes no difference. Pete also has posted a one way check valve that he says works well.
-
3 pointsYour comment: The hardened bolts were bending, and it became evident that it was not coming off. For the stubborn hub: While the center bolt of your removal tool is under tension, WHACK it on the end...thinking that the SHOCK may free the stubborn hub. Draw tension again, and WHACK it again...repeat as needed.

3 pointsCorrect! Pics of 867’s keeps the thread on topic. Plus if Dan needs a close up pic or a measurement, those of us with intact machines can chime in.
