I'm a little jealous Eric. I can guarantee that I will never come home to see my wife cleaning out the driveway.

Well recently before Alex got his 604 project he was looking for another project and was out Perusing my parts tractors pile. Out there sat this little commando 8. It was owned by my ex Alex’s mom. So I told him he had to talk to her. Her and I don’t see eye to eye so she thought it was for me and told him a price. I was like whoa it’s for him not me. After weeks of him pleading for it she finally caved in and gave it to him. Tonight was finally warm so he asked my dad to move it for him since it doesn’t have tires (we stole them for another project). We tested the spark and it had great spark and tried to start. Now the back story to this tractor is. I was at a local dealership that I’m friends with the owner picking up some parts I ordered for another project. I asked him what was up with the commando 8 sitting in the side lot. So he brought me out and we looked at it and he gave me the story. The original owner Archie bought it brand new with a mower deck and the snow thrower. My friend was a kid when it was new and would walk by Archie’s house and got to be friends with him. He started learning to mow on it and graduated to doing all the services on it and switching implements for Archie who was in his 60’s at the time. Archie lived into his 90’s and the tractor sat for years in his garage. His kids gave it to my friend. I thought it was a cool back story. Then my friend said he didn’t have the time to fix it up or get it running and told me to make him an offer on the spot. I had 22 bucks in my pocket and he told me deal. Couldn’t believe it. Well my ex was super pissed that I bought another tractor so I gave it to her. We got it running and it’s been sitting since. I’m glad Alex got it. He’s been addicted to this hobby all winter and now has wheel horses of his own. He plans to keep it original paint and keep the nick name Archie!

The rest of the story. Unfortunately, my plumber was over booked (I should have been a plumber) and could not fit me into his schedule in a reasonable time, so I contacted another. He was here at 11:45 a.m. and finished by 12:50 p.m. He dug down at the spot that I had pinpointed... and found this. Cut it out, and spliced in a new piece Job is done, no leaks, water pressure is holding, and now I can take a shower longer than 1 minute. Woohoo

If anyone has captured either post them up, with or without a tractor, at home or one of your favorite destinations that brings you peace for better and warmer days ahead for all of us. Take Care All

When i first started out in this business i learned why, when siphoning 3yr old orange stale gas out of a tank...best to use a clear hose, lest you get a mouth full, choke on it and blow it out your nose... 1/10 stars...do not recommend

Agreed sir. My wife is supportive and never complains how much tractor time I take. That being said, she has zero interest in them. The first year she went with me to the PA show, she left and went to Hershey all day. She grew up mowing on her dad's Case. Those things fly compared to a Wheel Horse so far as ground speed. In her book at least, that's one less thing to like about them! That's the only reason I'm speeding up the whatchamacallit. She may enjoy using it if it's a bit faster...

Handlebars! I had to cut the shaft and turn all the paint off to get it into the steering sleeve of the tractor. Perfect.

Today, I’m celebrating the beginning of my little blue truck assisted Wheel Horse collecting spree! in Spring of 2018, Mrs. P told me “if you go buy a new zero turn, you can have as many Wheel Horses as you want!” I promptly went to the Scag dealer in town and picked out a nice orange beaut. For a $300 finance charge, they offered 0% interest. Since then, she’s been crying to pay it off and I have stubbornly insisted she doesn’t pay a cent more than the scheduled payment because we get to use their money instead of our own… and we already paid for the privilege. Well, our last bill arrived yesterday. It’ll be paid in full and has been a great machine. Regular oil and hydro fluid changes, clean outs and a couple sets of blades and it’s good to go.

My 312-8 sat with a busted cap for at least a decade, i pulled it out the frame, dumped it, put in some degreaser (like purple power) then stuck the power washer in it, that agitating action broke alot loose..then let it hang upside down. I take an open air fitting and put it on my air line and snake it in...helps blow stuff out. Then a couple hours in the sun to fully dry. She was spotless inside.

That’s awesome. Kudos to her. My new girlfriend doesn’t understand my Horse addiction yet but is supportive. In fact one of our dates this summer she asked if I would join her at a local tractor show. That was before she knew how into them I can get. But I highly doubt I will see her plowing snow on one.

Seems it was running, try the easy stuff first. Drain the tank, change the fuel lines, put fresh gas in it and try running it. If it does not run well after a short time, then pull the carb and clean it.

On an Onan do your self a favor, Check the tightness of the bolts holding the PTO side bearing plate on the engine itself. I had a 520 running in my driveway as I swept out my garage. Went to back the tractor back in and there was over a quart of oil on the ground. Oil everywhere. All of those bolts had loosened up. Some a full turn. If that happened whilst I was out snow blowing I would have had a small boat anchor.

This is what I've used and it works great but I'd think any of the others mentioned here will do just as good. I believe the key to success with any brand is cleanliness. I threaded a nylon fitting into the hole to keep it clear.

And one more 1/4” plate is bolted to the front clip. I’ll bolt it all back together then weld in some kicker supports.
