    Some pictures are worth more than any words can describe. During the time that our Flag was at half-mast on 9/11/21, the wind whipped, popped and slightly tattered the US and Marine Corps Flags being flown. Sunday morning, my youngest son and 3 year old grandson, Nolan, wanted to help me replace both and raise back. A perfect time for a Dad/PawPaw to share some of the best time with Son and Grandson. New Flags were attached and raised appropriately, while providing a short narrative on the meaning and why we do it. Nolan was very attentive and seemed to understand, even at a young age. (Maybe just the pride from his PawPaw). Once this was accomplished, we followed it up with a ride on the "Red One", as Nolan calls it. 857, the beginning of my relationship with WH. This was my Dad's first of 6. I call it the 4GEN WH. Each of his Kids/Grandkids/Great Grands have been on this Tractor. Just thought I would share. The little things seem to make the best memories. Gunny, aka Dennis. (The pole is an extendable one, and is in the lowered position.)

    Been off work for 5 days doing chores and cleaning and chores and tasks and…you get the idea. Decided to take a cruise in the woods as a reward for all of the above . The trails here used to be 6-7 feet wide from all the tractors and especially the quads that kept the growth tamed. Well nobody rides them anymore and in some spots they are completely gone now. I stopped at the water crossing unsure if I should venture thru…of course I went for it! Good thing I had a tractor with Ags cause that water was deep! Took a video as well, not sure if it’ll work for you all to view it or not. IMG_2396.MOV

    I've been down for 3 weeks with covid so my grass was getting long, my normal mower is a 418-8, that is having some wiring gremlins. Pulled this old girl (160) out and stuck a deck under her so I could get done tonight before rain rolled in. It hasn't seen a deck since I refreshed several years ago, forgot what a beast it is, not as smooth or quiet as the 418 (and I miss the lift) but It sure will cut (and wheelie).

    So I picked this up month's ago as a parts machine. Decided it was to nice to part out. Picked up a steering wheel and put new tires on the front just to be able to move it around. It sat for a while until @squonk picked up an engine for it at the Big Show. So the engine was swapped out. Wiring rewired. Used the tins on old engine to match the paint. Tranny fluid and filter changed. I didn't paint anything when it was apart because the engine and transmission were untested. Well now it's finished and I'm glad I saved it and didn't part it out. Runs and drives nice and still looks pretty good.

    I'm going to go look at this tractor Saturday. From my limited research, Yanmar made two different versions of this tractor. This one, from the '70s, and a later one around 2000. Both could be had in 2WD or 4WD. 17 hp, two cylinder diesel, 8 speed, dual range transmission, catergory 1 3 point hitch. This one is missing a fender (may be impossible to find one), and has an issue with the right brake. Anyone here have knowledge of a Yanmar YM1700?

    Adjusted the seat safety switch, made a battery hold down, hooked up the headlight wires, fixed the tie rod ends on one side and shimmed the front wheels on the 310-8. Then.... took it and the tiller for a couple of passes in the garden. I'm so pleased with it. Even the wife was happy. That made me even happier.

    well I listed my mower decks on here, and within minutes someone wants to trade me his tall chute for my 2 mower decks! so now ill have a tall and short LOL maybe the short can go on the 141 and the tall can go on the 417a then i have the best of both worlds

    Short answer: I had the clevis and didn't have another Heim. It's hard to see, but that is a 1/4 to 3/8 bushing inside the clevis. It moves freely in rotation, but has no play. I have the only other Heim I had left on the other end of the link, as well as the lower link to the pedal. I'll pick one up sometime, but it's good enough for now.

    @peter lena Just got done soaking my nicer of the two decks. Should help hold off rust for years to come. I've always used a file on my blades as well. No sense wasting material with a grinder.

    @Ifixoldjunk like the looks of that oil soaking , when the metal , turns black , its in there , leave it upside down as long as you can , to enhance the soaking , i use a small flat file to touch up my blades , removing very little metal , yet giving a very sharp edge , put some lube on the fresh cut edge , to stop rust and hold sharpness. been doing this for years now , it just works , pete

    Getting the 520H snowblower ready. Changed the fuel shutoff because it seemed to be plugged. It was. Fuel line was dried out and cracked so I ended up pulling the tank, cleaning, and installing a new fuel line. Been hearing a radio ad since we moved that says there are two seasons in Maine, Wintah and preparin' for Wintah, so I'm on it. Still a few more things to resolve with this tractor but I'll get there. I haven't posted much lately It's been quite a spring and summer. Bought the new house, had open heart surgery, moved, then sold the old house. Now getting a lot of work done on the "new" old house. Slowly getting back to a routine.

    Awesome stuff Mike. If you get through clearing up your own trails we could use a little help with our set. I'm hoping to take the time to cut a new one and connect 2 before the Meet n Greet so they circle the acreage.

    This is an 8 HP Kohler, with electric start. This,is what you should end up with, except yours will not have the tall dipstick. This one doesn't either, anymore.

    Great tips for sure! Thank you Here is west michigan, we get all types of snow. And generally alot of it. Sometimes we get 12" of powder, sometimes 2-3" of wet slush. I had a old jd 110, had short chute blower on it, and it was ok at best. Sold it to buy a tall chute and the performace was better. I also did the pully swap and flapper mod and it threw snow fantastic after that. since got away from john deere stuff (thank goodness) back to wheel horse

    Bad rear hub key allowing slippage??? Or really off the wall but actually happened to me. Thought the belt was slipping on my L-107 replaced it, still seemed to slip marked the hubs to check the keys no problem..Then noticed the rear tire was flat but the side walls are pretty stiff so it wasn't noticeable the bead had loosened and the wheel actually slipped in side the tire....

    But I seem to be right, yes? Apparently you CAN mount this plate wrongly. You DID help me realize what I am looking at, and thats all that counts, you helped me see it, and I Thank You !

    Correct. The garage is probably 1960's or even 1970's vintage. 2x4 framing dressed to 1.5x3.5. New garage will have some room to work as well, but too much to heat.

    darn ok. Thanks guys/gals. I wasnt sure. I thought it would be a good deal....but maybe i live with my short chute for a winter and see how it does.... I mounted it a few days ago to test function......seems to spin quite fast and quiet. I noticed a few bends in the auger, but ill work those out

    I believe the YM1700 from the 70s is supposed to be lime green in color. This one shows some green showing through the red primer. The price isn't bad, $800, and I might get it for less. The missing fender will be a problem as I'm sure I won't be able to find one. This thing looks to be awful narrow...from tractordata, which I don't trust much, says it's 44 inches wide. Pretty narrow.

    A 267H has a completely different chassis than your 417a or C-141. The 267H also has a vertical shaft engine. Not saying that you couldn't make the blower work some how, but it will be far from a direct fit.

    I think the Tecumseh in photo was to be replacement motor for the 5.5 Tecumseh on the other tractor , a 552 Wheel Horse. I know the 754 had a 7 hp K 161 Kohler o it as originally outfitted by Wheel Horse.

    I hear ya and I hope you're getting over it. It was about 3 weeks for me and I still have to watch what's up in the head. That and hay fever. Anti-histamine - that little pink pill - has been great. My weed lawn was almost 9" tall. Had to go over it twice and might have been able to sell the hay it made. Get well!

    One more test. Turn the key to the RUN position with the engine NOT running. Check the voltage across the battery terminals. Now move the red test lead to the regulator DC+ terminal. You should have the same reading. If not there is a problem with the path the charge voltage takes to get to the battery.

    I had to make an adapter to fit this seat to the Wheel Horse springs. Nothing fancy, but it's one more thing completed. I like this seat, so it was getting on there one way or the other. Fixed the foot hydro link thingy. Hopefully my steekers will be here this week (absolutely NO rush Terry!), so I'm hopeful I'll get this one off the lift in the next two weeks!

    I did the impossible today on a 520H. The valve for the lift sprung a leak and needed new o-rings, but that valve has a phillips head screw on the front end that needs removed. You can't even see that screw. The two console plates need to come off to see the valve body. Normally the valve requires removal by taking off the four hydraulic lines but that is like brain surgery. What I did was remove the battery and tray and then the two valve body mounting bolts, the battery support has access holes for the bolts if you have a skinny 7/16" socket. I pulled the pin from the arm that operates it and removed a small bracket that was in the way that had only one bolt. I now was able to move the valve body to a position where I could get at the phillips head screw with a long #2 screwdriver at a slight angle working thru the battery space. Then the spool could be pulled and the o-rings replaced. If you have four hoses and no steel lines, this might work for you. I thought that I was in for an all day job, but was pleasantly surprised that I could pull this off in less than two hours.

    Actually Dan and I know a local that has one similar to that but a few years later. Has the initals HP, for Harold Pond, welded into one of the chain cases. That right there is the granddad of the Senior.

    I own Serial No. 47956. This had been repainted at some point before I bought the tractor. Included is a picture of the serial number before restoration. The frame, axle, wheels, etc. were powdered coated and the hood and other tins were painted. The lettering on the hood was hand painted by a pinstriper.

    754's didn't have Teckys. It looks to me like they had some 7hp electric start Kohlers left over from 1963 and installed them on what would have been 854's. Their "cleanup sale" was more like 'We need to get these 7hp electrics off the shelf'".
