13 pointsNot sure if Mrs. P has pics to prove, but she escorted me and Stormy with the truck about 1/2 mile down the road to the neighbor’s place tonight. 1 hr round trip to scoop their driveway out with the FEL. They are great neighbors and elderly and he used to plow the whole road with his John Deere B. It’s about time neighbors are able to pay him back. By morning, one might not be able to tell but there was a good 10-14” in their drive. He has had bedridden back pains for a year or three and I’ve been fortunate enough to keep their drive clear in case of emergency. With my truck broken, that was my best bet.

9 pointsToday I transferred all of the snow equipment from the 606 rat tractor to the charger 12 that I got from Jeff @Wildside a couple weeks ago. The last week or so I’ve spent cleaning up the tractor and working to get the seat pan and toolbox straightened out. The owner who had it before Jeff’ had put in some 2 inch spacers underneath the toolbox on top of the rear axle which of course threw everything out of whack. Jeff told me about that ahead of time and he was nice enough to put a nicer hood on it for me and he came up with a generator belt guard as well. The owner before Jeff’ also made a bit of a mess of the wiring but it works so I’m going to leave that for now until after snow season. I was really pleased with how my blade fit on this tractor. It raises nice and high and everything cleared. All I had to do was move the rear rod on the plow frame to the rear location and everything worked out great. The first picture is of my old plow tractor, the 606 rat. It did an incredibly good job and was very fast since I upsize the front pulley but I want to use that for more of a ride around the neighborhood and cart tractor. This is a couple before shots of the charger when we were still trying to figure out if it was an early charger or a 1277. Here a few pics of how it looks now. It’s a lot of different colors but I sort of like it that way for some strange reason. It kind of reminds me of the 606’s big brother.

8 pointsUsed the FEL to blow my driveway open about 4’ into the grass. The way the snow machine we call Lake Michigan is going, it won’t matter in a day or so.

7 pointsGot a 61" plow blade from @wallfish a couple (?) years ago. John could give better details. I assume it's a 42" plus additions. Today we peeled it out of the snow and cleaned it off. Scraped some rust off. painted it bright red. Going to throw it on Cinnamon Horse and give it go. Very likely tomorrow considering were forecast for a couple inches of snow. If I like the way it goes I'll scrape off the back side come spring and get a new edge for it. Almost a "before" pic. We had removed the biggest parts of the rust. Really like this Rust-Oleum 2X Apple Red gloss.

6 pointsSo this morning I got a call from @oliver2-44 saying that he had been granted ownership of his early to mid 60's 953 and the current owner would be contacting me today to arrange for pick up... Well I had already been stirring about in my shop preparing to reinstall my hydraulic cylinder on my 1994 520H. The 520H was needing some bang juice so I headed down to the local store and got her 5 gallons of 89 octane non- ethanol gas. When I got back home I decided to go ahead and prepare my rig for the upcoming 953 acquisition. Hooked my home made 10 x 6 utility trailer up to my trusty 1998 Z-71 Silverado 1500, cleaned out the few leaves left in it, aired up the tires and checked the lights. Checked and loaded some tie-down straps... Right now we are staged and awaiting the call from the present owner... Meanwhile back to that 520H hydraulic cylinder... Horse Newbie (Tim)

5 pointsSo glad you were able to help @oliver2-44 get the 953. Getting it from NC to TX will be a neat trick but it can be done. Members here are awesome when it comes to "Haulin Help". Several years back I had bought a 953 to be picked up at the Big Show, ended up having spinal fusion surgery just before the show. James @Jrblanke and Van @Wheel-N-It came to my rescue, they had never met me and didn't know me but they pitched in and hauled and stored it for me until I was back on my feet. There are so many quality people on this site that I'm sure it can be done.

5 pointsYep, I fixed three snowblowers this week (none mine). Someday I'll need a hand, for sure. A co-worker with a serious disability once reminded me that I was "temporarily abled". That idea has stuck with me.

5 pointsMy blower is only a 37" and the B-100 ran it just fine but I have a K301 on the shelf I can always freshen up for it. As for down pressure on the blade I use it to get in close in places I can't do any other way and drag the snow out backwards. The blade wants to float so I am putting down pressure on it the lift lever, I do have a down pressure bar but an extra 10 or 15 Lbs. on the blade would be very helpful in those situations.

4 pointsResized a set of chains for my rears (width was good diam was too big). Cleaned up and mounted my hitch with a junkyard free tow ball a wire wheeled up. Reversed the mounting bar for the plow too (was on backwards) and made some little spring clips to hold the pins that keep the levers from releasing the plow. took a while!

4 pointsAs i recall it the 953 you picked up in East Texas was in need of a lot of love. Looking at the one @Electric_Ret gave you via @Horse Newbie's generosity I think the Blue Bomber should be the parts tractor. Gotta love it when members team up to help other members.

4 pointsRemoved today the fracts of the Pavillion what is collapsed these Day‘s. while i removed the Tarp and see the pure Metalfragments, i developed a crazy Idea to dump that Metalscrap... No, i wan‘t trash it - ya know a Brainfree didn’t Dump any Metal. I doubt it will be strong enough for it’s repurpose, but however ok, Cut it in estimated usable Parts, than i bring them into the Workshop and sort them out. good things aside, rest in the trashbox, preparing the Rest to further repurpose. When all was precutted i see it is not the Strenght as it appears, but hopefully Stiff enough to last few months. I will just know that when it‘s finished, so fireup the Welder and ditch the things together i have in Mind. Things will not perfect aligned, so it‘s just a quick and dirty built project to waste time and see if and how it works. Built a superlight Trailer for the Wheelhorse with it‘s old original front tyres. Tadaaaaa. built an Axle out of a 3/4“ cutted Pipes and a 3/4“ u Steel and drilled a hole in the ends for a fixing Clip. Fit‘s - cool So it maybe a Wheel Horse huh, the Tyres tells it.. 😎 It just needs a Wooden plate as bottom and than we will see, if and how long it lasts. i don‘t believe it lasts long, but however, it was funny to build. nice few hours project to rework scrapmetal.

4 pointsBeen working on a favor for one of our members...seems @oliver2-44 is about to aquire an early to mid 60's 953. He seen it listed in Red Square classified's and sprung on it ! As for my part, I will be picking it up in the next day or so, strapping it to a pallet and taking it to the shipping company to send it to the Great State of Texas. I am going to document my part in a new thread I will start called "oliver2-44's new to him 953."

4 pointsMaybe this does not seem like much, but if it was not successful , then he!! is comin' for breakfast! I heat with a pellet boiler that is outside the house This morning the fire was out. Not only that, but the boiler has a function that activates and shuts it down in case the fire starts to burn backwards into the feed auger to keep the hopper from catching on fire. It's a good unit in that the LED display shows exactly that with a flashing b b [back burn] on the controller. So all this was happening with the furnace cold as a stone and no back burn condition.. We had 40 MPH winds last night and the wind chill is tremendous this morning. I really hate to have it down because if it gets really cold, the boiler could freeze and on and on. I did notice that the fan that makes the pellets burn was running too slow, and changing it out would have been horrible in this weather. then I started looking at all the other wires and found that one looked a bit green and when i futzed with the connection, the back burn alarm went away. Then I cleaned it up and made a new connection and the fan went faster. All those things have to be right to keep the little firestar controller happy.and make the pellet feed operate. All this just in time before single digits and below zero stuff coming for the next 10 days. A real thank you Jesus moment it is. It also reminds me of almost every wheel horse i bought this year. Just poor or dirty connections in the key or charging circuits, so going with the wiring schematics on this website takes all that misery away.

3 pointsUpdate on the balance point It balances out at just about the center. So fairly even other then my weight which is centered at 20in behind the balance point. So I think I can rule out it wanting to climb up hill all the time

3 pointsYou're correct. All nuts and bolts. I can't speak for anything on the PTO because none of our tractors have one installed. I've seen the nut on the carriage bolt that holds the bottom of the step be quite rusted. TIGHTEN that one 1/8 turn before you loosen it. That breaks the rust. Remember that trick. An automotive tech told me many moons ago, "You can almost never loosen it but you can almost always tighten it". Seen a few folks use that over the years. Right @pullstart ? 108035 spring. Check the overall condition of the clutch spring. If you need a new one the least expensive I've found it so far is RCPW. Pivot points. Check ALL pivot points for excessive wear. Particularly the shaft of the idler where it goes through the frame. Carefully check idler pulley bearing. Any issues or questions just post em up...

3 pointsHad few times the same issue, if phone get‘s to cold in the Shed it dramatically reduces the power. there are 2 options to prevent that. 1. Keep it in a shirtpocket close to your body on colder day‘s. 2. connect it on charger when in cold envoirement, if possible before battery cools down. No evidence, nothing happens. you know the rulez.

3 pointsLoosen the set screw in the thrust ring under the upper bushing on the steering shaft. Then you should be able to bump the shaft up out of the fan gear and realign the wheel. I would first check that the fan gear is centered when the wheels are straight ahead. If not, something may be bent in the horizontal steering shaft.

3 pointsHere’s the Charger 12 I picked up recently. So far I just reworked the seat/seat pan, swapped on the snow shoes and caps from my 606 snow tractor, fluids, greased it, cleaned it up a bit, got it ready for my snow plow, and added some decals. Later this year I’m going to completely rewire it. Other than that, I’m just gonna run it like it is. It kind of has a Dolly Parton coat of many colors look.
