Hey everybody I am 14 and I just got a account and I am exited to join and talk to you guys. A couple years ago me and my dad got a 1964 854 and have not got a chance to get into it tell this summer, which was a amazing experience and started my love for garden tractors, so i created this to talk with you guys and share ideas.

Finally took the time to unload my 56' RJ 35 and wagon i brought home from my trip to the big show. Patina Baby

Many of you know that Trina is a highly trained Martial Artist. She's a 2nd degree Black Belt. Has taught classes. Been trained in (9?) Different hand weapons over the years. Dozens, maybe well over a hundred trophies in a bunch of categories. Also has a level of physical strength matched only by her level of mental strength. VERY high. Like she needed another weapon.... FIRST time Trina has ever handled a firearm of any kind. Hand-built AR-15. She took three shots from 60 yards after doing target practice at 104 yards. ALL THREE of the 60-yard shots were BULL'S-EYES. One more day to work... my hood into paint tomorrow, then I'm pretty sure that somewhere out there, a fat lady will start to sing!

Thank you Mr Wheel Horse and the lengthened grader 42" blade frame. My new septic mound has too much mound at the front and the low areas in my yard were not backfilled properly by the sub contractor. The idea is to scrape off the layers of topsoil and redistribute the sand fill. If you want a job done right - - do it yourself.

Not in the market for any tractors right now...but stumbled across this one and it was a good deal. Late 80’s 312/8 with a Magnum. Came with a 42” SD with the reinforcement bar and a 37” SD with a complete bagger system. No real need for it so it’ll get some love and most likely go up for sale. I like to have 4-5 WH’s here and this one makes 6 so one of em has to go. Yes! It’s soaking wet in the pics , just gave it a bath.

Yeah my dad supports me all the way, and yeah I am getting my own workshop soon.

Switch to an older K series adjustable carb This one appears to have the choke lever in the right position. She couldn’t quite get it fired up... but I have a feeling with a carb rebuild she’ll get it! It was pouring fuel out, I shut off the petcock then rolled it over myself for quite a while to dry out the plug. Once it fired up, I turned the fuel back on for her to take a stroll!

Yet...the day is still young Eric.

A couple of years ago member @JPWH here did a great job of documenting every step of the restoration of his 854. This should be very helpful to you. If questions coe up along the way please feel free to ask us, we want your project to be a sucess.

Apparently I can't be trusted with money, especially my own, The tractor runs decent, three point hitch and it has an after market auxiliary hydraulics kit. Just in front of the main transmission another gear case with high and low range then direct. Love the quick connect three point.

Thanks for the welcome, and the tips. This is it and i do have full restoration plans in the future with paint and every thing, and making a sleeve hitch for a plow and a cultivator.

They are interchangeable, but might be a 1” axle when you might have 1-1/8” in, say a C series.

Spent part of day reassembling the commando, that's about it until some parts and decals come in the mail, I haven't even messed with seat yet, might just put the pan back on temporarily

Read the whole thread, what a great work, with some interesting knowledge transfer and the Spirit from all of you. Especially i read the section about pre work before do a Paintjob. Thanks @DennisThornton for your Tips, i will try to learn from it also. Paintjob‘s until now is my biggest fear, i maybe to impatient. Great work Hank @JPWH and congrat‘s to your own „safe the psychologist“ therapy. Even this therapy ain’t cures, it was a pleasure to see the results after.

Very impressive! As a NRA Certified Instructor rarely have I seen someone totally green shoot like that. I've never thought to put the two together but I can't help but believe that her level of discipline she's developed from her martial arts training has carried over to her handling of firearms.

Got ‘er done. My neighbor with a 100+hp New Holland tractor with a bucket loader helped me out a bit this morning by moving some of the pile down the driveway, but was very satisfied with my C101’s performance.

My buddy Morgan here... dreams of being an excabator operator one day.

Happy Saturday!!! I worked 36.8 hours of overtime and I am at work now! 😴. Hubby and son will come get me tonight after work as they worry about me! Good to be loved!!!

I think we all should do more preventive maintenance, but like you said, life gets in the way of things. Glad you saw the problem before it became a disaster.

Sounds like the fellas have given you some good advice. The 854 is a favored model around here. I have this one and was going to restore it but my buddy Mike @prondzy is going to take custody of it and leave it's character. He does wonders with preserving patinas much better than I.

I have thought about leaving it like that because I love the patina look with the nice clean painted wheels.

Whether the 1" axled or 1 1/8" axled transaxle is in your machine only matters if you plan to use ground engaging equipment like a turn plow. The 1" axles are stout enough and the basic structure is more than rugged enough for general mowing or snow blowing.The lighter duty transaxle is far stronger than anything you will ever find in a mower at a box store.If you have a Grey Workhorse then in answer to your question is the transaxles from any C series up will bolt in.

Here’s a couple little tricks I’ve learned about spreading gravel. BEFORE loading the truck if you want to keep most of the material in the center of the driveway to build a crown or to keep it from spilling onto the grass place two 6”x6”x24” blocks inside the dump body placed against the tailgate. Keep them to the far left and right. Then chain the gate so it can only open 3-4” on the bottom. This will allow the material to only come out in the center of the body and at a controlled rate. The smaller the stone the tighter you want the opening of the gate. Some people like the grass strip in the center, so place a 6”x6” by whatever the width of the grass is inside the center of the dump body. Again chain the gate and it will only allow the stone to drop in the tire tracks. This can be a little tricky if you’re spreading stone blend or recycled concrete(RCA) the trick there is it needs to be dry. Wet material will bunch up. I usually would raise the body to check the width of the opening before loading. Most bodies have provisions in them and the tailgate to chain the gate in this manner. Speed of the truck with also determined the thickness of the spread. Happy spreading and grading, I hope this helps someone!

You've found the absolute best place to get information, parts, supplies etc for your horse!! The Kohler 8 is a fantastic engine! One of the favorites of many of us for sure. Please do post pics.
