17 pointsWe just had a tornado that barley touched down go through Elgin a few days ago. We were without power for just over 20 hours. Lot's of trees down, including some of my backyard maple. The limb filled up the back yard and did not hurt anything on the ground. Lucky on that part. The neighbor (2 doors up) had a huge limb come down with no ground damage either. Again, lucky. They had the rest of this tree taken down yesterday. I got a lot of wood out of it...American Elm. I thought you guys might like to see how this outfit dropped this huge tree. I'll bet is was over 70' high...it was about 4' diameter at the base. Used my 857 and trailer to haul wood back to my house. Enjoy...this was fun and scary to watch all day yesterday. A large part of this tree is already down at this point. This is an action shot. That branch is on it's way down. Our dog, Turd, is a mouser. They like using the wood pile as a home. Every once in a while Turd will get that mouse. It is her mission in life now.

16 pointsMy restoration of my 31 year old, 1989, 414-8. Original owner. No rust or dents, no smoking, leaking or dripping, no tears or any problems. Starts immediately, no hesitation. New tires, drive belt, fasteners, seat, battery and paint. Everything else, original. Hopefully, baby will last another 25 years and when I die, the grandkids will trade it in for a video game, maybe two because its in great shape! LOL! My thanks to this forum for its invaluable advice and manuals which made this possible!

5 pointsNo filter there. But you can drain it down, and jack the front end up, there is a hump in the transmission casting that will hold some oil. After that, you could fill it with diesel fuel and idle around for a short time, flush, then fill with oil and flush, repeat that until it looks good and clean.. Those are tough gearboxes. You'd be hard pressed to hurt it unless it was run dry.

4 pointsYes those were taken in a single day. I used to run my dog doing flush and retrieves on English style driven pheasant shoots. He was a bad ass Springer Spaniel whom I could command with just hand signals.As a bonus for the dog handlers the estate where I worked would have a dog handlers shoot at the end of the season.That picture was taken after one of those shoots. After the birds were cleaned I would bring them to my fire house and put on a pheasant dinner for the guys. Although my current dog doesn’t hunt I still get cleaned pheasant from the estate and bring it to the firehouse for dinner every January. I miss my boy Wallace.

3 pointsSo the LED tail lights on our new to us T@B teardrop camper were partially "burned out", but one of them had all but three diodes working. So, after I replaced the tail lights, I started thinking... The utility light that I mounted on the back of the C 105 worked perfectly for night-time reverse plow duty, but it burned out last season... So, I cut out the old light from the rubber housing with the dremmel tool, bolted the former T@B taillight inside the rubber mounting, wired it up on the stop light wire and Voila - I have an even brighter rear utility light, albeit red... which actually is better! Free and better - I love it!

3 pointsYes it will. The 10-16 HP Kohler singles use the same pump. I went this route recently when my Dad's fuel pump died on his M12.

3 pointsIf the old oil looks like a chocolate milkshake, you likely have water in there (very likely)... a new shifter boot will correct that issue...

3 pointsto another Michigander!!! As @pullstart said, batteries are usually the big ticket item on these... do see them occasionally on CL and FB Marketplace as well as classifieds here on RS, but they are not that common. I would search those places to get comparables... I’ll be watching!

3 pointsUpdate: heres some engine porn for ya's The block bolted right to the base of the Sunnen valve and seat machine perfectly with a set of thick fender washers underneath. 20% larger intake valve to keep the intake/exhaust ratio somewhat correct, opened throat approx .200. Going for the 90% rule but will need to leave some material in the throat- blowing a hole in cast iron sucks- been there. Valve is a chevy Vortec 5.3 intake valve, cut down to 1.650 and cut at 30 degrees. On to the blending, port work/relieving and final valve job next!

2 pointsI have a 300 with a hydraulic lift. It stalls after running a while and I don't know the cause. Here are the symptoms. It starts easily although if it has been sitting for a month I need to use some starter fluid on the air cleaner. Once it starts it runs well until it begins to miss, maybe after 30 minutes. If I do nothing it stalls. If I use about half choke and half throttle it will lI'imp along so I can get it back to my garage. Sometimes after limping for a while I can cut back on the choke and it runs fine again for awhile. I keep the gas cap loose and have taken it off, and that doesn't seem to do anything. I'm wondering if the fuel filter needs to be cleaned perhaps because there is dirt in the gas tank and it gums up after a while, but that wouldn't explain why it sometimes will go back to running well. I would think if it were the magneto, that would cut out completely and I wouldn't be able to limp home. Any advise would be most welcome. Stay well.

2 points... and those impact screwdrivers. I don't know how I lived with just a hammer impact or socket slap until I got one of these. 700lbs of force - she's snapped concrete screws. Driving 3" screws without any pilot holes. Too much fun. That said, the old school methods have served us all well over the years. They'll one day be forgotten so it's grand that there are forums like this to keep them in practice and memory.

2 pointsYears back I was given a mower that the dealer said wouldn't be worth fixing because the entire ignition system was shot. Pulled the flywheel and found an insect nest built up around the ignition points. Cleaned that mess up and all was well. Offered to give it back to the previous owner but she had already bought a new one from the same dealer that wouldn't take the time to fix a simple problem.

2 pointsPut that 36” deck above to good use. I did a little over an hour of “mowing at dark” in the field, LED’s lighting my way and the laying down the path! Obviously too dark for pics, I’ll have to see what it looks like tomorrow!

2 pointsI dug out the tires tonight that need mounted. I have a set of rear ags and front turfs off the 854 that will be joining this pile soon. I plan on following the treatment outlined in this post. Going to pressure wash them, soak them in Ru-Glyde in trash bags, then paint them with some Miller Tire paint. I plan on tubing them all so the dry rot cracking doesn't really bother. My main concern with them is that one set of the ags have areas where some layers of rubber peeled off the bead where they were rusted on the rim. Since I will be running them with tubes I think I should be fine. If it's noticeable at the rim I will run them as the inside dual. The 704 will get duals rear ags and front ags. The 854 will be getting front and rear ags, and the 653 will be getting front and rear turfs.

2 pointsLooks like when you cleaned it a few weeks ago, it washed some battery acid down there. That is textbook what battery acid looks like. You need to neutralize it with some baking soda in water and clean it up well. Randy

2 pointsThe belt guard supports the belt around the engine pulley to allow it to slip when the clutch pedal is pushed. How many different size pulleys would you be using? Just kind of " thinking out loud here", but if you adjust everything using the largest engine pulley, then when you change to a smaller one the belt gets slack. maybe take up that slack with an adjustable arm with an idler pulley attached. Make exact holes in the arm which match each pulley size so that arm is quickly adjustable too.
