We just had a tornado that barley touched down go through Elgin a few days ago. We were without power for just over 20 hours. Lot's of trees down, including some of my backyard maple. The limb filled up the back yard and did not hurt anything on the ground. Lucky on that part. The neighbor (2 doors up) had a huge limb come down with no ground damage either. Again, lucky. They had the rest of this tree taken down yesterday. I got a lot of wood out of it...American Elm. I thought you guys might like to see how this outfit dropped this huge tree. I'll bet is was over 70' high...it was about 4' diameter at the base. Used my 857 and trailer to haul wood back to my house. Enjoy...this was fun and scary to watch all day yesterday. A large part of this tree is already down at this point. This is an action shot. That branch is on it's way down. Our dog, Turd, is a mouser. They like using the wood pile as a home. Every once in a while Turd will get that mouse. It is her mission in life now.

My restoration of my 31 year old, 1989, 414-8. Original owner. No rust or dents, no smoking, leaking or dripping, no tears or any problems. Starts immediately, no hesitation. New tires, drive belt, fasteners, seat, battery and paint. Everything else, original. Hopefully, baby will last another 25 years and when I die, the grandkids will trade it in for a video game, maybe two because its in great shape! LOL! My thanks to this forum for its invaluable advice and manuals which made this possible!

No filter there. But you can drain it down, and jack the front end up, there is a hump in the transmission casting that will hold some oil. After that, you could fill it with diesel fuel and idle around for a short time, flush, then fill with oil and flush, repeat that until it looks good and clean.. Those are tough gearboxes. You'd be hard pressed to hurt it unless it was run dry.

Yes those were taken in a single day. I used to run my dog doing flush and retrieves on English style driven pheasant shoots. He was a bad ass Springer Spaniel whom I could command with just hand signals.As a bonus for the dog handlers the estate where I worked would have a dog handlers shoot at the end of the season.That picture was taken after one of those shoots. After the birds were cleaned I would bring them to my fire house and put on a pheasant dinner for the guys. Although my current dog doesn’t hunt I still get cleaned pheasant from the estate and bring it to the firehouse for dinner every January. I miss my boy Wallace.

Good evening all. I am trying to learn how to value a Wheel Horse electric tractor. Not certain of the model yet. I will try to get some numbers off of it tomorrow. Just trying to determine it's worth. Mower deck has three electric motors.

So the LED tail lights on our new to us T@B teardrop camper were partially "burned out", but one of them had all but three diodes working. So, after I replaced the tail lights, I started thinking... The utility light that I mounted on the back of the C 105 worked perfectly for night-time reverse plow duty, but it burned out last season... So, I cut out the old light from the rubber housing with the dremmel tool, bolted the former T@B taillight inside the rubber mounting, wired it up on the stop light wire and Voila - I have an even brighter rear utility light, albeit red... which actually is better! Free and better - I love it!

Yes it will. The 10-16 HP Kohler singles use the same pump. I went this route recently when my Dad's fuel pump died on his M12.

If the old oil looks like a chocolate milkshake, you likely have water in there (very likely)... a new shifter boot will correct that issue...

to another Michigander!!! As @pullstart said, batteries are usually the big ticket item on these... do see them occasionally on CL and FB Marketplace as well as classifieds here on RS, but they are not that common. I would search those places to get comparables... I’ll be watching!

You might need a new shiftier boot if water has gotten in the transmission. Wheelhorse Parts and More down in the venders section sells them.

Welcome, from not too far away! Battery condition helps greatly with price, usually they are worth much more than the tractor itself if they’re in good condition. Pictures will help as well.

Update: heres some engine porn for ya's The block bolted right to the base of the Sunnen valve and seat machine perfectly with a set of thick fender washers underneath. 20% larger intake valve to keep the intake/exhaust ratio somewhat correct, opened throat approx .200. Going for the 90% rule but will need to leave some material in the throat- blowing a hole in cast iron sucks- been there. Valve is a chevy Vortec 5.3 intake valve, cut down to 1.650 and cut at 30 degrees. On to the blending, port work/relieving and final valve job next!

Just wanted to share my excitement for the week with everyone. I just picked this 312 Hydro today to mow the lawn at my house as my JD died on me. Owner had serviced and taken good care of the Wheel horse but I was more than pleasantly surprised when I arrived to hear that he was the original owner and had all the manuals and even his purchase receipt for 1990. Everything worked as it should although the mower deck has a small hole in it which is easily repairable. Brought it home and proceed to mow things just because I could...lol. It mowed perfectly and the lawn looked great, I use to detail cars in my youth, so i decided to see what I could do with the paint on this 312 so I played around with the hood and well, you can see the results. I look forward to doing the rest of the tractor and polishing the hub caps. Im also ordering some new tires tonight and going to do a complete service just for my piece of mind. That sulkey may be a National or maybe even a David Bradley? I've never seen a Gravely with an S spring before, but the frame is a close resemblance to a gravely. Pretty sure the old National golf course mowers had S springs instead of a C .. allegedly it rode better. Just spitballing. Tractor itself looks nice enough and the 3 speed is nice. The steering really is funky until you get used to it. Ill have to paw through my horde of papers. Think i got all the specs and ads for that model. As above, its a 1959 Deluxe.

Wow, that looks great! So what the tractor is, is a 1959 Deluxe model having the optional steering wheel and 3-speed transmission. The steering takes some getting used to as it steers with aircraft cable that runs through the steering tube so it's not real tight steering, but works. This tractor looks relavively correct with exception to the plastic hood that's missing which HAPCO parts now reproduces that you can buy for it. The sulky isn't original but neat none the less. Definitly a Beaver worth buying in my opinion.

Oh no problem, even though I havent put oil or gas in it yet. The hood tilts open exposing everything. I got the throttle inkage in the mail today so I will be finishing it soon.

I used to buy mowers off the repair yards so much when I was younger and had the time.. kind of a shame the dealers would tell people their old rigs were gonna cost too much to fix. Always loved watching the chaos unfold in old LawnBoys. It was a 2 stroke.. the only maintenance you had to worry about was the blade edge and the air cleaner.. nothing more needed tending to once they went CDI. But the 1.50$ air cleaner?? Nah. Lets ruin this commercial grade machine.. Granted. Normally they just gunked up so bad they couldnt pull any more air and choked out. Often nothing more was wrong. The mist of oil that always blew out of the carb kept the filter nice and absorbent, rarely letting the dust into the engine. By the time I would get them they would have been in the yard for months. I'd pop the coils into a toaster oven and bake them dry, coat of marine varnish, clean the bowl and a new filter.. flip them for a half decent profit. Very very few I ever had needed more than that. Old Snappers with the decks so packed full of caked grass the engines would 'seize'., 3 Speed toro mowers being used to move concrete.. Aint the same any more. I rarely take machines in now. The salt air ruins the modern cheap paints so fast and the decks turn to powder.

That Clinton is probably the original engine. 401s did come from the factory with Clinton B1290 engines but not as many as the Kohler. I have one with a Clinton.

What I did today is pretty mindless compared to what you are dealing with @johnnymag3 . Cleaned, sanded and sanded more and degreased. Just to hot to prime and paint today. Will be up a the crack of dawn to beat the heat in the morning and get these ready for assembly on the 310-8.
