My dad purchased this 1067 in 1967. It is still mowing our lawn after 53 years. Dad passed away in 2008 at 93. I restored the tractor in 2014. 21 of his grandchildren rode the tractor as have three of his great grandchildren. This is our nine month old grandchild’s first ride today. It fascinates them every time. Still runs like new.

I’m not sure why I haven’t shared this, but I came across the picture the other day... In 2016 I stripped this deck down to bare bones, pulled a window and installed a slider, re-decked it with Brazilian Tigerwood in a double picture frame format, built the pergola to fit the roof lines of the house and rebuilt the stairs too. I wish I had a picture of the top of the deck, or once the job was complete!

Got a call from an old friend of Home I known for many years saying can you help me cut these boards to go in the bed of this truck.? I jumped on this like a duck on a June bug. It was a great experience of a cool idea that GMC had back then!

So after it was all cleaned and the paint work done it was time to install the deck. Attach O Matic makes that job easy. In a few minutes the deck was on. I had this tractor seat in my garage for awhile, since the original seat was ripped I thought I would put this one on. The seat is supposed to slide backwards and forwards. Well after I got it on, had to change a few things to get it to fit it dosnt slide back and forth to easy. I just set it all the way back as I am 6'5 and like the leg room. I had decals ordered for the hood and now at the last minute I am changing my mind. I will post when I make the changes but for now here is how it sits. I am happy with how it came out. Didnt cost hardly any money to transform it from what it was when I got it. Just some time and alot of elbow grease. It runs as nice as it looks. Kohler 16hp Magnum with a 8 speed tranny.... isnt that what most of us want? This tractor is a beast. Only things that I know dont work are the lights on the dash and the parking brake. Cant wait to finish it. Stay tuned for the finishing touch !!!

Mowed my entire yard for the first time with me new (to me) 315-8. This is a very very steep hill. Pics dont show it at all. But the machine did great. Grass was soaking wet from all the rain yesterday and i hardly broke traction once.

And now for the rest of the story Come to find out, I took the battery had it load tested, only 5 cold cranking amps. Altho it read 12.53 volts. New battery and it fired right up So I'm back in business. Rebuild the carb and that should fix the idling problem. After that I should have all glitches sorted out.

Because of our rough hillside terrain we use garden boxes. There are beans, pole and bush. Peas, snap and sugar. Cukes. Carrots. Radishes. Zucchini. Squashes, summer and spaghetti. Also tomatoes, Burgess (big and vining) and grape tomatoes. And a couple banananananana peppers.

She has a 520 that has faded to a pinkish red that I was able to buff up the shine but the colour stayed so she is happy. I should have put the deck on that one before my surgery but I did not think of it. I feel fine and want to get back to work but the surgeon says to rest and don't lift anything for 6 to 8 weeks to ensure everything heals up inside. Here are a couple pics from 2016 when we brought it home and she was helping clean it up. It is now foot control but when we first got it she could not reach the pedals and liked the stick shift as she called it. The post above with the HC is the first time she has ever mowed grass but she has driven the tractors around for years.

Got the horses out for a little fresh air and sunshine. Of course they wouldn't social distance, you know how horses can be. They sure look happy

So I got my garage cleaned out so I could squeeze a 4th tractor in it. Wasnt easy I only have a one car garage and to get 4 tractors plus all my other stuff in there and still be able to close the door was a task by itself. Brought the 416-8 home to do some major cleaning. The 16 hp Kohler Magnum is running perfect. Sounds great. Got lucky there as the engine and tranny are rock solid. I degreased and power washed everything. I repainted the wheels back to original color as at one time they were painted black. Got out my tooth brush and cleaned every little nook and cranny. Brush touched up a few spots of paint. Except for the wheels its all original paint. Scrubbed the tires with a brush and reconditioned them. Painted the debris guard. PO had painted the muffler but some off the paint had come off so I repainted with High Heat paint. Greased all the fittings on the deck as well as the tractor.

Thank You @ebinmaine I have been following your builds as well. Like my title says, this is just a " refresh" . I didnt have to do any mechanical work as this machine was in good running condition when I purchased it. The only mechanics that I did was adjusted the brake and clutch. The oil change, regreasing, spark plug, fuel filter, and air cleaner I feel should always be done when acquiring a new machine. This wasnt a restore back to new or custom build. Just refresh on a budget. @peter lena Thanks for watching ! I could have used some help ! Stay tuned for its completion. One more finishing touch to go. I still want to fix the parking brake issue but dont want to spend the 100 dollars on a new brake band especially if I dont think it will fix the issue. No one seems to want to chime in on weather its just this tractor or are most like that. The dash lights I am not so sure if thats something I want to get into. Looks like trying to fix them might be like disturbing a hornets nest. Leave well enough alone. @squonk you want it you got it!! This is before I put the deck on. I had to rearrange them so both Horses are on the same side because of the decks. What cant be seen but is still in the garage is my 11.5 hp 32 inch snowblower, 2 generators and a wagon !! If you see anything you like make an offer !!!

With the deck at my house I was able to scrap the bottom clean. I painted the top of the deck and the guards. had the blades sharpened and balanced. Put it all back together. Applied new decals.

Bob, you nailed it. While I was looking at the S/G I noticed that the ground wire to the frame was hanging loose. I found the bolt (thankfully) and with a spare washer got it all back together. It fired right up and I drove it back to the shed! Thank you again, pfrederi and Bob!

    well guys it has been quite a while here as taking the time to re wire the old 73 no name ;i have removed all of the old wiring and replaced it with new wires ;it runs great and boy is it fast for a 16 horse with the hydro stat transmission which i like more than the standard types which out of the 6 horses i have 4 are the hydro stat and 2 are the standard types ; and after time i was able to find a deck that would work as it is the older style 46 inch which the belt that runs off the mule drive to the electric clutch fits great and the old girl mows very nice ;i am going to attach a few pictures 'plus this is the first time i have ever had a horse with the electric clutch and it works great ;as once i hit the switch there really isn't any big noise as just a click and the deck takes right off ;if this clutch fails i have another one to replace it 'being a wheel horse collector for years i don't throw any parts away ;meaning spindles;blades or even mule drives or even the tact-o-matic items ;as we never know when we might need one in the future ;

Trina, her mom, Meeha mirror, and I spent some quality time in the woods today. I pulled 4 loads out to the shed and they did a fair amount of splitting. Could've done a bit more but thunderstorms were rolling in... Trina snapped a pic of this neat mushroom. I wish video was better at showing inclination angle. This is a fairly steep climb for a few feet. Note zero work on the part of the big 16.

I havent forgotten about this project. I been busy on the 2 Wheel Horses and I am STILL waiting for a Predator engine. I loaded it on to my truck yesterday and took it over to my cousins house for a little welding. I need to get the steering support welded up again and he offered to do it for me. The steering column goes through a long tube. The tube is welded at the bottom to the frame. Well, when ever anyone pushes one, they always grab the steering wheel to push it. Over time that weld broke and made the whole steering assembly very loose. He welded the bottom and also made small supports to give it much more strength. We had to scuff up the pain alot but well worth it. I will repaint once engine ever gets installed. Next he started asking me about the lever on the side. I explained that it raises and lowers the deck height. Problem was that the thumb button was rusted up soild. I have been soaking it with PB Blaster and wacking it with a hammer forever and cant get it to move. He took his heat gun out and heated it up and removed the white plastic grip. Next he busted out the torch and heated that handle and thumb buttom to red hot. Worked it up and down and got it free. Must have been a spring in there to keep the rod from falling down. With out the spring the rod falls and wont lock into position. Removing the rod and getting a spring in there wasnt an option so he fabricated a spring on the outside of the handle. Welded a couple of small washers and attached a spring. Works perfect now !. he also dug through his parts of stuff and found the center cap for the steering wheel I have on it. Looks alot better with it ! After that I looked at the progress he is making on his 57 Chevy and admired his 64 Chevy II . He is a Hot Rod'r through and through. He has the engine put together and installed on the 57. He has been working on that car for a long long time. He is doing ALL the work himself. Every drop of paint, every nut and bolt, everything piece of trim, rubber , glass, everything new and done himself. I give alot of credit, he knows his stuff.

Not only clean the carb, but flush the tank and replace lines. It only takes one little speck to reduce the fuel flow. I have cleaned a carb in hurry and put it back, just to find it clogged again within minutes! Randy

This is Finley our little buddy, he keeps me company when working outside, and generally buzzes about the farm checking on his piglets - he is very protective of them. We got Finn from a few miles up the road, about half an hour south of Glasgow. In an interesting twist the lady who was selling him and the rest of the litter used to be our baby sitter back in the Falkland Islands. She has also moved to the UK and married a farmer - it can be such a small world!

Well spent the morning working on the Lambert at my cousins house. When I got home from there I decided to get back to work on the 416-8. With the blades all sharpened and balanced I installed them on the deck. Then I installed the deck on the tractor for the first time since owning it. After the deck was on I changed the seat to this one that I had in my garage. It is supposed to slide forward and back but dosnt seem to want to do it that easily. I may change it back. I am really starting to like this tractor more and more. After I packed all the tractors back in the garage I noticed that my decals came from @Vinylguy I was tired so I will finish it off tomorrow. I will also post some pics of the progress made on the Lambert tomorrow.

Another one.... We lived in a two bedroom flat for a little while when the kids were small, it was an investment I brought to do up and sell. We decided to live in it to keep our costs low while doing the renovation, but it was a bit small. The kids bedroom was crowded with a single bed and a bunk bed, so we decided to convert the bunk into a triple. They were almost impossible to buy, and it was an easy conversion anyway. When we moved the triple bunk was sold, it got into a bidding war and one of the guys that lost was really upset. I would have built him another one except we were leaving the UK to live in Australia and all my tools were on a ship already.

Starting this here even though I am close to completing it. Just wanted to show that if you buy a nice running tractor, with just a few dollars you can bring it back to looking as nice as it runs. I purchased this a few weeks ago. It was bought new by the family and was passed down from father to son, to brother. The last brother wanted to buy something newer. The 416-8 was scalping his lawn and didnt want to deal with it. I paid him and loaded it into my truck. At the time I didnt have a place to keep it so I brought the tractor to a friends house and the deck to my house. The deck I scrapped the underside, wasnt bad but had a rope wrapped around all the blades. Took the blades off. Took the guards off. Scrapped and sanded the top for painting. I noticed the leveling rod was broke, figured thats why it was scalping the grass. Ordered new rod and decal kit for the 48 inch deck.

This is much the same with my grandfather. Bought a 1968 Raider. There were pictures of me riding it in the early 90s. Around 2012 he gave it to me to continue it in the family. So far his two great grandchildren have been on it along with most of his grandchildren. Sadly he passed 11 days after my first daughter was born in 2017. Still running strong mowing to this day albeit a different yard. Amazing how a piece of machinery gets passed on for generations.

That will work...but if the cutout part of the regulator goes bad it can drain the battery when not running.. Ignition switch isolates the R terminal in Off position.

thanks guys! Forgot to mention, this was mainly a single person job (me). The husband is my wife’s boss’ boss. The wife is a little bitty lady who was there every step of the way for an extra hand, a home cooked meal, a water... Except the pergola. I laid that out in the driveway, cut all the boards and then brought them up the structure to install it. She didn’t like heights!

Two things: 1). Wait till dark and mist some water over the coil wire while's she's running. Oooh Sparkly! 2). Swing by sometime and we'll take a look at that 12HP K in the Cub. 2a). I'll get it running first, then we'll do a look see, compression test, whatever.

I can’t overemphasize the importance of pulling the float bowl and making sure that is clean. Often these tractors sit for long periods with ethanol fuel and it crystallizes and gels in the bowl. It can cause problems intermittently or continuously if not removed. I always keep a surplus of carb gaskets because it is the number one problem to many of the old Kohler’s I’ve encountered in not running. I can’t tell you the number of tractors that I’ve purchased that didn’t run and all it took was cleaning the fuel system and they ran great! Fresh, properly gapped spark plug is also a low cost insurance too.

Take the hydro pump off and rebuild it. You'll probably find some deeply scored soft brass parts (Piston Slippers) that need resurfaced. This isn't so tuff to do, just be meticulous with it and get it right. Resurface the Piston Slippers, Thrust Washer, Charge Pump Housing, and the Base of the pistons Cylinder Block. Use a FLAT surface plate and...using figure 8 motion... progressively sand off the scoring using 220...400...and 1000 grit sand paper. Don't remove excess material...just enough to remove the scoring and scratches. Reassemble using Assembly Oil and install a new filter. I have posted on Red Square the procedure and pics for the overhaul... but don't know where the moderators have included it. SUNDSTRAND HYDROGEAR refurb.docx

Looks great D_Mac. Painting the debris guard white is a nice detail too. As far as the parking break, I had a problem with my 416-8 also. It would not release by itself when the brake pedal was depressed. Turns out the U shaped piece was sprung, removed and used a vice to spring it back (see arrows). Easy fix if that's your problem.
