As some of you may know, the company I work for has 2 divisions: a collision center and a recycling center. I work in the collision center which overlooks the recycling yard; about 10:30 this morning I was carrying a door out to our scrap pile when I spied with my little eyes : All for 3 cents a pound! Loaded it up, took it home, gave it a bath. Don't know anything more than that, yet! (and I have the missing hubcaps too)

Hoping someone can help me find our lost 520-H it was parked at a recycling center while I was paying for some scrap titanium for a SR-71 I'm restoring - and when I stepped out of the office it was gone this is not the first time we've had to search for this 520-H - there was a previous time when I removed a wheel cover and it became upset and later slipped out of the garage and hid in the woods ... maybe not coincidentally I just recently removed a wheel cover ... hmmm ... ??? ... attached a picture of the tractor - and a picture where it was last parked hope you can help - thank you in advance !

I'm not sure I get the joke.. Or is it a joke? Did your tractor get stolen? Obviously the SR-71 part is a joke but I'm not following the rest. Maybe I'm just a bit slow. EDIT: Aaaaand I just found the other post. Got it now.

Hello, and thank you for even having this forum! The first thing I ever drove, as a child, was my Dads C-160. Now, 40 years later, and having just retired after 22 years in the Marine Corps, I just picked up my own. I remember that tractor getting beat like a red headed stepchild and it just kept going until one day my Mom ran it all day on the property with no oil. It was like a death in the family. Now I have an opportunity to set it right. Lol. Anyway, I’m going to have a lot of questions to get it up to “daily driver” condition. To start with, I need an ignition switch and key. www.isavetractors.com has two versions. I called them to ask, and nobody knew, so they forwarded it to the owners voicemail and I’m not sure how long, or if ever, I’ll get a return call. So along with this introductory post, I’ll ask if anyone knows if this tractor has the battery ignition or the magneto ignition? 1975 C-160 with Kohler K346.

fantastic story, I had been bypassing this thread knowing that Dan and Jim always hold out on us until the end of the project. Wonderful story and a fantastic job for sure. Nice job and an even better showing of brotherly love.

Exact fit replacement tie rod assemblies for most of our Wheel Horse tractors. We have been making and selling these thru our dealership for over 25 years. These are an excellent fitting, fully adjustable replacement , professionally painted , ready to install with correct hardware and replaceable ends. We offer the longer versions to fit the popular Raiders, Chargers, C-series, 300's, 400's etc , and the shorter versions that fit the 1963-78 short frames and vertical shaft models. Price is $57.00 a pair shipped. We also offer the 3940 short "drag links" as found on the early 60's models as well for $35.00. Pm with any fitment questions. As always, we accept cash, check, money order, or Paypal.

I should have some pictures soon of the RM 367 deck I'm rebuilding. But in the meantime, I'll share a picture of my boys and me prepping the front yard for sod. The boys were my weights for the drag. And the 867 pulled beautifully!

In my line of work precise dimensions are a must, some being difficult to take accurately such as ceiling heights and checking for square. That is where this mostly unknown tool makes those tasks easy. It’s the Lufkin No.7165 10 foot slide ruler.

Nice looking mower!! I have a few 's but for cutting grass, this is my mower. This thing is such a blast to drive. It's like a 32" cut carnival ride.

It’s been awhile sense any progress was posted and that’s because I’ve been working through this shutdown. I purchased some new wheels from Northern Tool and they fit perfectly and have the correct clearance for the mule drive

Last weekend was final fit & finish day. I hauled the tractor over to Jim's so that we could do final fit of the implements. First we installed the plow and made sure that my cable set up for tripping the pivot release would work. Then we removed the plow and fitted the mower deck. While doing this we discovered that we had a damaged belt tensioner. Lucky for us Jim had the part that we needed in stock. I may be jumping the gun on the deck as I'm sure Jim has some pictures to share with the work that he did (and of course we want to see them, as well as hear about the decisions that were made about the deck) but here it is mounted on the tractor. After we had every thing fitted, Jim loaded the tractor & implements into his enclosed trailer. Yesterday was delivery day. Jim, Cindy, our friend Joel & I loaded up in the truck and headed to Manitowoc. I had stopped sending Jason update pictures of the Bronco towards the end of the assembly process, as I wanted him to see it first hand when it was finished. On arrival Jason was quite anxious to see his Bronco again. When I finally drove it out of the trailer he was pretty much speechless. Jim & Cindy were running cameras so I hope they have some good pic's of that event to share with us. I managed to get a couple of pictures. Jason taking his first cruise on his rehabilitated Bronco. Taking it all in. Jason with the "Mafia" delivery crew. I wish more of the people who helped on this project could have been there for delivery day. We had a good time with Jason, we helped him switch implements around so that he had some first hand experience with them. Jason is a great guy & I really hope he enjoys his Bronco every time he uses it. To give thanks to those that helped on this project and to let Jason know how our community can work together I asked Terry to make up a decal to place on the inside of the hood. The names in each group are in alphabetical order as each one was equally important. Thanks Guys!!

This is what the dealer gave him. Apparently it was for the wrong year, but note they circled the model and deck, and his wife’s name is scribed on the front, as she bought it for him as a gift. I imagine they wrote it there when they set it all aside for pickup.

I’d like a key, but I think I can get those online. An ignition with keys appears to be about $20. I’m not worried about cost, really. I haven’t looked around for any old-time parts stores. I’m a metric guy. Blasphemy, I know, but I have a huge garage and not a single wrench with a fraction on it. I’m gonna have to go Harbor Freight and buy this thing it’s own tool box set. lol...

It amazes me the the level of stupidity of some people that throw away decent vehicles and tractors then you have the the complete opposite that would want $3k for some RJ that most would used for a yard ornament ...

Well done all of you. Fantastic job. Jason's one lucky man to have such friends.

Feel free to post all of the pictures that you want Jason. After all it's your baby, I'm glad that you're happy with it. I'm not always big on words. Just wanna say that it was a pleasure to work on the General. Even more than that, it has been great getting to know you. It's always great to make a new friend. I would also like to thank all who helped the General have a new lease on life and most of all help show that good things can happen to good people. I really hope you enjoy your Bronco every time you use it.

The deck... It had a orginal '71 vintage 42" deck but after looking at it we decided to go with a '67 RL-486 that I had that was in a bit better shape rust wise. We could have saved the orginal deck and certainly will not scrap it. I have a soft spot for these early side mule drive decks as that's what I used to mow with for years.

To say this tractor needed some love is an understatement. Lots of PO cobblements and lots of just plain old worn out. Just getting it on a trailer without the wheels falling off was a job. The good news is both Dan and I could see a diamond in the rough. The motor started and ran good with no smoke. And the hydro seemed strong. After getting it home and into another mafia member's shop and after a bit of head scratching. Dove into it. I took custody. Of the transmission parts whIle Dan comenced to whittling in some full length keyways on th axles. A quick call to Lowell and bearings, gaskets and new HY hoses were on their way. As with most projects clean up is the worse part. One day Dan and I were brousing Fleet Farm we stumbled on some farm paint in IH red at a very reasonable price. Here we go full paint. It was our orginal intent to just stay mechanical but figured this far apart might as well go whole hog. A fine selection of gently used hubs to choose from thanks to other members here.

Post mowing report. It runs like a top. The only failure was the new brake band fell off. Silicone rtv didn't hold so I'll be trying automotive epoxy next.

Lets do a little down and dirty check it out troubleshooting before you go to the store and buy a bunch of parts you may not need. Check the oil level in the engine and remove the spark plug. Be sure the "New" battery has a god charge on it. Get out your automotive jumper cables and connect the Black to the "-" terminal of the battery and the engine block. Connect the Red to the "+" terminal of the battery and momentarily touch it to the starter large terminal. Does it turn over? If the starter didn't turn over take it to a starter repair shop, don't buy the cheap junk starters you'll find on the internet. If the starter turns over move the Red jumper clamp that was on the starter to the post of the solenoid that feeds the starter and touch it momentarily. If the starter turns over then the cable from the solenoid to the starter is good, if not replace that cable. If the starter turned over you can remove the Black jumper cable and repeat the jumper to solenoid, if the starter turns over the ground cables are good.Move the Red jumper that was touched to the solenoid to the other large post of the solenoid and clamp it there then run a small jumper form the post with the jumper on it to the small post on the solenoid that has a wire running up to the ignition switch. The solenoid should close and the starter turn over, if not you need a solenoid. Let us know how you do.

I had one...I took the pto bell off and got a smaller pully to run it....not full throttle either....I just cut tall grass. I saw a post where one guy was trimming his hedge as it will run at a 90 degree angle....1 inch is probably a bit heavy....more like 1/2...and it is not made for that.... I cut road sides just to use it.... Here is a video...might have to back it up to the beginning....

Cas, we have a lot to talk about at the next Big Show at the Tail Gate of Knowledge. Of all the neighbors I have had, I had some......trash living next to me. You might get a kick out of how I handled some of it. The city finally did evict them, but it got crazy. I would have loved to see you paint that guys forehead!! WOW!!! Fantastic.

Although not exactly the same situation since this was regarding my property, when I moved into this place 37 years ago, I was 25, and although I was pretty responsible then, I was really impetuous, fearless and "many times "without much sense. Unknown to me I had a next property neighbor who had a son who was a known problem in town. I should have realized it already as I was moving in and he decided to paint a swastika on the electrical post facing the house while we watched. It was the first confrontation of many and on that one he left with no shirt, and with another swastika partially painted on his forehead. Moving forward then more trouble started where him and his friends would cut through my property constantly very late at night to hang out in a shed in the back of their property smoking weed. They were loud and always made sure they would not only wake up everyone but also litter the place with all kinds of trash. My wife was of course terrified and questioned daily the decision to buy this property. Went to the police and they basically told me that kid was a known town problem and they essentially could not do anything about it since they could not watch him and his friends all the time.Furious as I was I basically told them that if that was the case they now had another problem which would be me and I would do something about it for sure. So one night against the better judgement of my wife I just waited for them in the shadows with a baseball bat in hand. Sure enough here they come making a big racket. I stood out in front of them and told them that whether it would be one at a time or all at once, I did not care for the first in line was definitely going to get hurt and then unless they killed me this was going to happen every single time they crossed into my property. They yelled, cursed, threatened, but sure enough no one wanted to be the first. So they turned around and that particular problem was solved. There were others over a period of time, which were resolved in a similar manner until fortunately they moved away. I wouldn't recommend these approaches to anyone, and for sure I would not take them today ( I think), but the point is that if one continues to allow such behaviors they only become convinced it is OK to do it. You have to make the point in a convincing way that it just will not be tolerated. Unfortunately specially in today's world the police's hands are tied in many ways by bureaucratic and legal issues and that allows these behaviors to flourish. All that it would take would be a few stern warnings from them to avoid the possibility that what I did could have been tragic. Although I have more sense today (?) I still will not tolerate any disrespectful or intrusive behavior towards me or any of my family and it will be addressed immediately.

Great minds think alike! I bought a used 2013 Suburban LT a couple years ago to replace my rusty 2004 Avalanche, and it's a great family vehicle. The only mistake i made was not checking the RPO codes for the axle ratio... it's rocking a 3.08 so max towing is 5k lbs and it hunts for gears a bit which is a little disappointing. other than that it's pretty loaded and the kids love it! I hated the Active Fuel Management so much i bought HP Tuners just to remove that so it stays in V8 mode, and i bumped the idle up since 550rpm is ridiculously low IMO and it idles much smoother now. $500 for the hardware/software to improve driveability is a little steep, but then again i'm picky. Also in the back of my mind is the fact that i could swap in a 6.0L and be able to tune it properly... If this motor pops, i'm taking a trip out to Wilbert's to hunt for an LQ9 lol.

What is it about y'all up there? Just look out the window and a 520 Hydro is winking at you, complete with wheel covers. I'm surprised it didn't fire up right there I have to speak up for the poor homeowner of today. Where do they go to have these machines repaired? The process today is to park the 2 year old MTD variant on the side of the house and it's off to Home Depot for another. Poor slobs - your gain!

GoodMorning, All of You.😊 Look, i been thinking this over since Dan & Crew left; it's been raining since yesterday... And i still cant find the words for a proper thankyou. So many thoughts; things rattling 'round in my skull...you know? I spent the rest of the day after everyone left straightening the garage to fit everything again, listening to tunes, having the ocasional smoke; just sitting n looking/staring at the 'General'. Think i was stunned. Know now i was n still am. These kinds of things...they are foreign to me. Especially since being alone again, i...it... Just boggles my mind. I have no words. Least, none good enough to convey all inside me; what i was, and still am feeling. I had such a good time. Seeing Dan n Jim again. Meeting Cindy n Joel (i sure hope im remembering the right names). Talking n teasing about WheelHorses n Simplicitys (lol, inlike tjose old ones, too). I mean, y'all even helped me figure out my biggest issue that i kno of to date with my 160, which, btw guys, i plan to hope get tended to today to get it at least back up n running (And you bet Jim, i wont 4get; if it ever needs, or i decide its time, for a new home, You have 1st dibs😊 ). Dan; Jim...all of you involved...Lord YES, the General is Beautiful; a beautiful piece of machinery and example of everyone's fine craftsmanship. Ill take good care of it Jim😊; it has a 4ever home, with me, until my time is done. Id find it a good home b4 that; someone who will appreciate WheelHorses...but idc how hard up i get, id never sell it. Thats a promise i can n will keep. But this post isnt about that tractor itself. Its a symbol, to me, n represents so much more to me. For that, i dont have proper words, or anything to offer but thanks with all my heart. If i could ask one thing, itd be that maybe someday i meet more of you that helped with it, in whatever way. I kno there is that special decal (I LOVE THAT ONE), but i bet there are others. To all of you, thankyou. If you chime in here or on the other thread of Dan's, ill see it. I wont add any pics; wanna let Dan's thread finish 1st. But y'all will be seeing the General again, i promise. And Dan... I never was one to have lots of real friends around. I sincerely hope you know i now count you, and others now because of you...very real Friends. Even maybe like Family. If there is ever ANYTHING Ican do for you; any of you here, please ask, n ill try. Bless You; all of You. ❤

It‘s outstanding how here help is gained in the Red Square. On the Beginning i thinkered what is RedSquare? That is also still more an example what i get from this place, even if i‘m thousands of Km far, it give me more the response of good Buddy‘s and not the feeling i’m in just another Forum. That also was my personally reason, to see ya all face to face at the Big Show this year what sadly not will happen, because of Covid. few Day‘s before, i be asked, How RedSquare can be defined? It‘s a respectfully place where help and even help to others together is in foreground, i feel Accepted and well surrounded. It is a place where you don‘t must read between the lines. Never before i where in a Forum, where such a high level of knowledge is combinated with the Heart of the Fella‘s and members. That all mixed with some Fun is my definition of RedSquare. And i be proud i can be here. The sad is the distance between, but therefore RedSquare exists. Again thanks to all Admins, Mods and also all Members for the friendly Ambiente. And Jason , Have a lot of Fun with the General. I hope for some Stories with him !👍

All I really did is throw a hub or two across the country and toss a bit of ridiculous banter. I got paid back for both of those in their own ways. I can't even begin to express the amount of knowledge I have gained and the friends I've made because of little red horse tractors. Just my way of paying back a few people for a few things, so to speak.

Your more than welcome Jason. One thing you need to understand is this is what we like to do aside of showing our tractors at shows which unfortunately is not going to happen much this year. That said we seem to have a bit on more time on our hands not getting ready for shows so your little project fit in real well. Not speaking for Dan as he is already a master restorer it personally gives me a chance to bring my skills up another level. So there was something in it for both of us. As I already told you already all we ask of you is to work it and mantain it properly. I have no doubt you will. I don't remember much these days but I do remember when we picked it up Jason said if we can't do anything with it we can keep it. Thanks for the offer Jason but Dan and I are both somewhat tractor heavy.... not that we wouldn't take in another orphan but it looks better in your barn! Also keep in mind why we cannot take payment for our work. As Dan always says if we do it turns our fun into jobs and then it's not fun anymore.

A good looking tractor with a good transmission and a good engine still needs to handle well. The tie rods were in poor shape so to repair them I chose to turn the original tie rods down and fit them with replaceable ends. Some final body work to be done on the sheet metal. After blowing some paint around a little assembly work. On to getting the implements ready. The dozer blade was my job, Jim took on the mower deck. To start with the A-frame was not exactly correct for the tractor so some alterations were required. First of all a PO made an addition to the A-frame to convert it from a short to a long frame set up. Issue... they stopped short of where they needed to be. When the plow was pivoted it would hit the front tires. I removed the addition that a PO welded on and added on a more suitable addition. Unhappy with where the pivot handle ended up after the addition, alterations were done to make thing fit better as well as be more comfortable for the operator. The plow after it was finished and fitted to the tractor. I did some work on the mower deck. A little welding to take care of some worn out parts. Weld up some over sized holes so they could be made the correct size. The rest of the deck was up to Jim @WHX24. I'll let him give a take on that.
