11 pointsOne photo opportunity that occurred for me was a scenic overlook in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park while bringing home my 310-8 from Tennessee where I purchased it.
-
10 pointsA bit long, but this guy is truly amazing. Puts me to shame, for sure.

9 pointsNo questions here, don’t have any issues . Just bombing around the yard today on my modified 657...seemed like a nice opportunity to snap a couple pics.

7 pointsI filled a few holes and dragged some rock around the driveway since the weather was nice. It wasn’t really necessary but it was fun.
-
6 pointsThat would be a 1960 550 suburban. Battery goes under the seat. Push/pull cable was added should have levers in the square hole
-
6 pointsNice 657 Mike but something Is different can`t make it out. LOL Nice conversion like the big fatties' on the back.

6 pointsIt is a 518Xi parts machine I bought. I have a 522Xi I plan on using for my mowing duties and jumped at the chance for a parts machine. So I figured I could make something out of the transmission and rear frame section. I have a lot of Gt14 parts already. I am trying to build a gt14 with the diesel engine and Xi rear section. Gonna be a challenge but I am up for it. I’m trying to get it to a roller and then add it to the list of projects 👍

5 pointsGoing to rebuild an RJ transmission in February while in Lorida, Florida at Rodney Burgers! Taking a complete transmission and a mix of new and old RJ parts! hope to make one good one and maybe get the three piece housing , bearings and oil seals for a second transmission.
-
5 pointsThat stone wall is fairly recent, meaning it was built 20 years ago by me. It’s far from perfect and that’s exactly the look I wanted Same tractor and same wall without the snow.
-
5 pointsFeeling inspired after the seeing the pics, so why not lets just go for a ride and take some photos.
-
5 pointsordered up a cheap volt meter and stuck it in today, there won't be any charging system on the tractor. a small battery will just run the the lights and gauge. this way I can watch the battery drain out @ebinmaine posted about gauges here is pic for you

4 pointsNormally it‘s very simple, change the Battery.... ok, so far so good, but what to do, if PO glued the whole Key together with 1second glue? Ok, that could be a challenge. i started today some work, to change good parts between the Cars, i imagine that the Doorlock system needs sometimes twice be pressed to react. I thought ok let‘s quick change the battery and we done. there is a small pile for a Screwdriver, try to open it... nothing, not a simple movement. Than i used bit more force, maybe it‘s a bit sticky... The other Key i changed allready the Batt needs also a bit more force. than i increasing the Force until i decide to stop. i wondered, that i found in the other Key 2dips of second Glue. than i tried Acetone, normally a easy way to open such things, but nothing. Next test was put the key in the Fridge and keep it for 4 hours inside. when i take it out of the Fridge i use heat gun for warming arround for use the force on Thermal expansion to break the Gluebed. just with Support of pliers i was able to crack this Glue Bed. all arround was soaked with glue, horrible - i clean it mechanically with a cutter knife. it was clear at the outside, somebody has tried to open it without knowledge. some bruteforce impacts are visible. i try it to smoothen as well as possible, than i see the issue. The Batteryholder was ripped and just clamped with a piece of folded Paper. i lay the PCB beside and clean the whole Key case, as good as possible and try to get it back in Original Shape. Than i repaired the PCB, Solder the Batteryholder back in place, where it has to be. than i try to remount it. What a challenge, simple change the Carkey batt 4h..

4 pointsI've seen stone walls in the middle of nowhere constructed with some very large stones and long as the eye can see it seems. That was a lot of work to get them out of the fields by horse and brute force and then pile them. Some look like a work of art with straight flat sides and tops but most look like the one in Mike's pic. Hats off to those old timers who had to do it to survive.

4 pointsThe best way to keep it from gouging out the stone is to add some skid shoes to the blade. I'm not sure the 310 has one of those dial height adjusters or not which limit how far implements can go down. If the blade is just hanging, then it can and will change depending on the terrain like running over packed snow. The rear tires go up or uneven and therefore the blade does too. With skid shoes set at 1 inch below the scraper edge the blade will consistently ride at that height for the most part.

3 pointsMy friend and I went on a 1.5 hour one way drive to pick up this 48" blade today. It even came with the original owners manual! Also have the axle bracket, all for only $75. It looks to be decent solid shape. Mods; I'm having trouble uploading pics... It says "-200" after it uploads and then says error uploading. Please help. Cory

3 pointsI picked this up for my son a couple weeks ago. The guy I got it from said he got it at an auction and it sat in his barn untouched for the past 25 years. Came with a mower deck, but I took it off. Looks to be in pretty good shape, the transaxle was stuck, flushed it and now it’s free. It has a Lauson, appears to be missing the air filter, electric starter, recoil starter, throttle lever & plate. I’m thinking it’s a 551 although I don’t see where the battery would go in front of the motor and the controls have me a little confused. It has the factory square cut out where I thought the throttle & choke would go, but it also has a push/pull choke knob. Does anyone know if this was the factory set up or was it added later?

3 pointsNot sure what @Sparky's got there in Connecticut but we've got one old one here on the left side of our property. They began being built sometime in the mid to late 1600s in Massachusetts and continued to be constructed all over New England until the early 1900s. It was rare at that point. There's a lot of really cool information about them online. We have several here in the yard that we're hand-built by Trina and I. I've lived here all my life and I didn't know until just a couple years ago that they were often NOT borders. They were just placed every 400 to 600 feet, parallel to each other, to get the stones out of the field. Can't have enough stone walls on a property...
-
3 pointsNice snow pics @Sparky! I’ve been thinking since the girl like snowmobiling so much, it would be fun to do a skis front end on one... maybe a bit overdriven? @giddyap style!
-
3 pointsHA! maybe not tractor issues. Do you like that seat? I might have a RJ-Suburban type seat if ya want more WH look. Although they are cold on the a$$ if you don't cover them
-
3 pointson the left side of the tractor is the implement lift handle, I use the adjusting knob to keep my blade an inch or so above the stone on my driveway, so I don't dig into the stone itself. I try to leave the stone in the driveway. I'm not sure if there are other ways to keep the blade from dragging on the ground, it's just the way I do it, and it seems to work well enough.
-
3 pointsBelieve it or not, i used a large plastic zip tie... And it was working GREAT...until the very last inch or so in the 5qt bottle (my fault)...think i tipped a lil too fast. I was awfully proud of m'self up to that point, having never done it before, lol. But now i bet i know why they put that one little hole under the seat, behind the filler neck😉🤔🤣 But, it is done😁 Fwiw...GLAD I DID...PO had used a 350 Chev Fram filter; PH16 I will never understand thinking like that....especially when you have a manual to reference (he did)....sigh.... Thanks for all your help, everyone!

3 pointsI grew up in Lansing. I vividly remember shoveling after the big '67 snow storm. That one canceled school for a week, if I remember correctly. I'll bet that Whalen's sales were still pretty strong in 1969.
-
3 pointsNew 9 pin molex, ignition switch and harness, fuel pump rebuilt. Just for reference, this mower sat for at least 3-4 years. I cleaned the spark plug, fixed some wiring, added a clutch spring, and fired it up. No carb cleaning or anything. It's crazy! Next is fluid changing (didn't want to do that until I knew it would run right).
-
3 pointsVery cool! I love old advertisements. Wish it showed a few prices

3 pointsTrina and I are right there with ya... We'd love to be set into a 50 or 100 acre forest. I picked up a group 51r battery to see if it'll stuff into the Cinnamon Horse. Used Interstate brand. 650 CA. 500 CCA. That otta spin the little sucker....
-
2 pointsThat looks pretty good EB. It is a fine start! I have to laugh about a story of my early days. They had a canopy busted on a machine cab in the field and the day foreman gave me the assignment of repair. I was a swing shift welder working the day turn. I ask the foreman why he didn't assign the job to one of his steady day guys. You know the guys with the good check numbers. He told me; "I need a welder not a rod burner!" I felt pretty good, never forgot. Right now you qualify as "Rod Burner", with much potential to do welding! Ingredients for a good stick weld; heat, angle, speed, and arc length. Heat; use a mfg. suggested medium, angle; tilt rod about 15 degrees in direction of travel, speed; puddle should be twice as wide as rod is thick, arc length; about half the thickness of rod diameter. Just a few rules of thumb, adjust as you go.

2 pointsSo I got the 414 out and started cleaning out the garage of everything else red...... for now.

2 pointsWell folks, I was finally able to get the paint department freed up for a few minutes to begin some cleaning up and throwing a little paint at this project. Trina was grinding off the surfaces of a couple of plow blades which I'll post in another section.... so while she had all the stuff out and gear on, she did some wire brushing on the frame that we're going to use. Before: After today's work: Still a ways to go but we ran out of time and daylight. A few days ago I picked up several different colors that I wanted her to trial spray to see how I liked them for different parts of the tractor. I was originally going to go with a hammered bronze for the frame, adapter, transmission... But as it turns out that color is much more plain steel colored than I was looking for. I'll very likely use that for other parts of the tractor but not the whole lower carriage. While I was at the store I also picked up a hammered brown color and a metallic brown color which has a very interesting sand texture after being sprayed. The hammered brown and metallic brown are pictured below, painted on the trans to frame adapter. Hammered: Metallic Brown: Look at the sparkles from the metal flake in this stuff. Imagine the whole front suspension, frame, adapter, transmission... All covered in this color.

2 pointsEven at 4 hours it’s probably cheaper than buying a new one and paying a dealer to program it.
-
2 pointsSingle stages tend to clog much more often in wet heavy snow. I run a 2 stage blower and rarely have any problems with it clogging the chute. Both will throw dry fluffy snow all day long.
-
2 pointsEngine is all together and am doing cam breakin now. I have to say it's the loudest engine I Ever built. VID_20191208_143717.mp4
-
2 pointsif it was me i'd add some wheels to the snow plow blade instead of skids. on my walk behind snowblower i put on wheels in place of the skids, works great just a thought , your mileage may vary
-
2 pointsPlucked the old economy tractor frame out from the boneyard to strip the front beam. Life is easy when you have a loader.

2 pointsI set out to get the old girl working, my neighbor gave me the tractor after he snapped the connecting rod on the engine. Ended up up with a "worker" not perfect but dang is it a fun ride. I refreshed my simplicity at the same time
-
2 pointsGot the transmission back on today, and filled up, sitting on all 4 again I think shes looking good. Still need to fix the the brake band, rebuild the idler pulleys and rewire but its moving along smoothly.
-
2 pointsWe have a similar project going. We bought 20 acres of woods about a year ago. Making plans to start building in the not too distant future.
-
2 pointsShe works well but some times she needs her bigger brother to help out.
-
2 pointsUsually don't have time to take a pic while working, but I did have this one. I use it often, one of the best things for around the house and yard I've owned.
