7 pointsOn Friday I started my journey. So not a mirror shot, because my back seat was full and had no view out my back window. Picked up the twins 418A 418C

7 pointsI don't do gardening but we do snow removal. In the winter here on the mountain I use both. And LOTS of weight. AG's may be a little better gripping than turfs but any rubber in the snow and ice is useless. CHAINS AND WEIGHTS ARE A MUST FOR SNOW. The rest of the year for forest work and general yard duty... AG's are great. But.... Trina uses turfs with chains and has no issues with traction.

6 pointsMight be too fast for you Super... I best just come get it so no one gets hurt. They ain't gonna guess Dan they're too fixated on late models...that's cool....leaves more roundhoods for us! Maybe this will help them out! It was the snag of all snags .... I was off playing with myself and Dan comes up and asks how much ya got on ya. I says a couple of Frankies in my stash. ..what's up? Tractor for sale he says... let's go look. Here I passed this gem when the missus and I were out for a lesurly sulky ride and I saw it but no for sale sign on it but I was too stupid to stop and ask! I didn't even look to see what it was. Anyhoo we go look at and immediately know what it is . I ask the guy what he's wants for it and he says two bills. I says SOLD! Older resto but very complete, had to run a dollar bill thru the points when got it back to camp but no biggis... we all got seat time!

5 pointsBought this as a backup mower a couple months ago. Had a few issues to sort out-had to clean carb, adjust pto and replace cam plate for motion lever. Finally got to take it to Mathews and give it a good run. Not a bad tractor, would be fine on a normal yard, but what I cut down there is tall thick and often damp. It did okay, but I could really tell the difference vs the C160 or the 416H. I may take it back home to use on my yard and my son's and move the C160 back to Mathews. The hood and seat pan have been painted some dark almost burgundy red so (they don't look that bad in photos) they're going to have to be painted with new decals.

5 points12hp is plenty to handle the tiller. I prefer an 8 speed over a hydro for tilling since the tiller wants to push the tractor. Especially true in heavy clay. Help that soil out by planting buckwheat and tilling it in when it matures.

4 pointsBeen scratching my head for the past two hours trying to figure out how to get this trans up on my bench by myself. Then it dawned on me grab some two by material and here's what I came up with! A 12 footer! It was on my bench in less than 30 seconds. Problem solved .

4 pointsYes thank you @19richie66 for getting the 418C from @lawnman_56 AND GETTING IT RUNNING. It was great to finally meet you as well Richie. Wish we had more time. Next time. Also thanks for trading off your 418A. I don’t believe I’ll be separating the twins. Richie and Rodney are at a good home this is the load that went south on Friday.

4 pointsWith special thanks to a very short term loan from "J&C Financing" I was able to purchase this little beauty a couple of weeks ago. I finally had a chance to drag it the rest of the home this Sunday. Let's see if you guys can look through the rain drops and figure out what it is.
-
4 pointsThanks lads. Had a quiet day just pottering about. Did have a nice surprise this morning. My sister in Australia phoned to wish me happy birthday. Had a bit of a catch up.

4 pointsFueling up today at the local convenience mart when this beauty pulled in... the current owner had purchased a 1979 variant brand new but then sold it in the mid 80’s when his first child was born. He always wanted another one and found this one for sale a few months back in California. It was a one owner truck purchased new in 1980 and is mostly original. 2.2L engine with 5spd tranny and 4WD! He flew to the coast from Wisconsin and drove it home. COOL.

3 pointsMy daughters and I began a family project to put a pulling garden tractor together for next year! Hopefully it leads to some good daddy-daughter bonding, family memories and a nice tractor they can ride next season... Here we go! I scored a mid-80's Wheel Horse 312-8 tractor for FREE from the neighbor guy. It runs, but needs some TLC.

3 pointsI dont generally shop for hard used items at HF but some of their items cant be beat. I recently bought the large sandblasting cabinet they carry to aid a restoration Im in the middle of and couldn't be happier but thats not why I started this thread. The cabinet is great but it demands simple modifications. One had need of small 10/24 hardware so i grabbed a box of assorted fasteners for maybe $4. I just realized these bolts have a recess in them just like some of the bolts on a wheel horse. Ive never seen this feature on anything at home depot or lowes and thought anyone wanting new hardware for a resto might appreciate this tid bit

3 pointsI would only be using the meter at home around the house and working on tractors so I don't think a $500 meter makes sense for me lol
-
3 pointsBTW, here's the 312-8 I picked up today. Just a couple of quick pictures before unloading it.

3 pointsCalled the Hi Lux over here. Does he want a set of original wheels for it? I've five in my wood yard.

3 pointsThis is a topic that will have opinions on both sides of the fence by good guys. I will not try to convince you of the other side, just share my experience... I love AG tires! They are on over half of my tractors. I like the look of them, I like the traction that they provide, and I like the look of them (did I say that already). However, I have found on my gravel drive here in NE Wisconsin that AG’s alone just don’t give enough grip especially if you have ice buildup on the gravel. For any snow removal, my choice would undoubtedly be turfs and chains, for everything else—I’m an AG tire guy. My AG’s alone have left me spinning in snow multiple times wishing that I had my chains... However, for gardening, I love running AG’s for my garden work. Just my .02 cents! Good luck on your choice.

3 pointsA manual transmission is much better for ground engaging implements. A hydro transmission works better for mowing lawn & running a snow blower. TO

3 pointsCool to see another 418-C out there! My son really likes his, as do I. We have used it for a variety of tasks and it works great. Love the increased ground speed too! Great finds all around!!!
-
3 pointsSorry about that John. I'll try to shower more often. The chances of me welding anything to the frame are very low. After I mess around with it some I'll have my paint department throw another coat wherever we've scratched it up.
-
3 pointsI haven't been able to follow along closely but did I miss the part where it's built, all together and running?
-
3 pointsI have a Trina. And a chain falls. Today I had a friend over to the house and we hung a unistrut from the rafters of the shed. I have a roller for the unistrut that makes it so the chain falls can move back and forth 8 or 9 ft. Some kind of Handy I tell you.

3 pointsEngine hoists are cheap. Especially used. I paid $100 for one 13 years ago and it can lift 2 tons.

2 pointsHi good folks So I have been messing around with a diesel conversion project, based on the engines I have started import of. Now this week I had thrown in my lab, that I needed to go figure out how to do some basic video editing. I took that as an excuse to practice on that project Thought I could use you good people as ginny pigs V-twin diesel test. Web version.wmv

2 pointsHappy Birthday @Stormin, from the same side of the pond for just a little while longer!
-
2 pointsSomewhat quality at an affordable price keeping in mind most manufacturers offer a quality tool way under what a professional uses but still ok for the hobbyist and still a decent tool. Another thing to keep in mind her is most major manufacturers will offer the same product to the consumer as well as the professional. They just label it different and offer a stronger warranty to professional and thus justify bending us over on the price... my

2 pointsChains and weight will be essencial, no doubt about it. i tryed last winter crossed chains, the did a good job. With added weight i get the required Pressure to the street and the Crossed chains work fine on the AG‘s. Without the Chains, the Weight was uselessly, even on AG‘s. The crossed Chains has the advantage on AG‘s, they don‘t slip between cleats, and you didn‘t slip that strong sideway‘s on push heavier Snow with them. The question wasn‘t Chains or AG‘s, the better question must be How much weight in addition to chains. Just my 2 cents

2 pointsThe only real positive with the 520 is the hydro lift. If your getting old and have bursitis in your shoulder that tiller gets a little tough when lifting on my 312-8. Like the others have said the 312 has plenty of power for a tiller. .
-
2 pointsJust to give you guys a heads up. It’s been a couple weeks. No updates yet. Work and fall baseball for the boy has taken up all my time. I ordered an ignition coil just waiting for a free minute to throw it on. Thank y’all again for all your help. I’ll be in touch soon.
