Had some time to dissemble the raider to get her in the house. Wife will love this 🙄

Our county fair started today and the elementary schools are busing students over to enjoy the big doings. I took a couple out as part of the tractor and engine club display, the little guys seemed to approve!

As soon as it gets chilly I expect an new thread to pop up asking "when will it warm up"!

Bet Craig would too.. nice to see he's doing it on company time! Made a new HY bracket for the plow tractor. Next up fab a new rat rod control lever out of round stock that isn't quite so flimsy.

Rumor around here is if you don't like today's weather, there will be new weather to complain about tomorrow. No guarantees though.

Thanks for all the reply's and info. Nice looking tractor!!! Can't afford to redo mine, although it would be a great candidate. As I mentioned in my first post, I bought this from the original owners family. The seat is worn and the knobs for the throttle and choke are missing. The gas tank gauge works but the plastic lens is broken. The owners son delivered the tractor yesterday and I took engine degreaser and cleaned and power washed e the entire tractor. Other than the rust on the hood the overall condition of the tractor is good. Brake and clutch need adjustment but I think I know what is causing the problem. The space between the tranny and seat pan was packed solid with grass clippings. May not have been cleaned in years. I removed the seat and fender pan and the grass was packed so tight the shift lever couldn't moved freely. Today i will roll the tractor outside, remove the rear wheels and power wash the grass out. Then I should be able to check on the clutch and brakes. Here is a picture of the tractor as it was delivered yesterday. It has since been power washed and all the oil has been cleaned up. I'll post another picture later. Anyone know where I can find a seat?

I just wrapped up my C101 project. Cleaned up, block bored .01, crank ground, new piston, rings, valves. Fixed the brake pad. New spring for clutch. New seat. Flushed trans new gear oil new boot replaced leaking axle seal New Deestone tires on back and Hi-Runs front. Straightened out wiring for lights. Picked up a decent 42 deck and new belts ready. Ready to go back to work again!!

Its down to the bare transmission and the frame. Been just a tad warm so haven't spent a whole lot of time in the shop. I needed to get the hubs off the axles and figured I needed a good way to get them off without destroying any more hubs. Got to talking with Ed Kennell and did some LBR Engineering (LBR = Looks About Right) Finally got all the parts I needed, did a little welding and tried it out tonight The end result was the the hubs are off the axles and nothing got broken in the process

I like anything old, my house is 1830 my tractors are all twenty years old or older. When I was young I liked new stuff and old stuff now I like old. I'm old so I think old should be celebrated and show, old is very capable. I've cut my lawn with the same tractor for thirty years it shows it's age as I do, that's just cool, I think.

Rethinkin about my Sicklebar hydraulics. Sure, i bought allready a Oilmotor, but while i‘m searching Parts in shed, i found my Powersteering Pump from first Wheelhorseproject . I see it and develop a crazy idea - i love my ideas, they allway’s so spontaneous.😂 why, i know i have bought allready this Oilmotor for that project yes, but... hummmmm - it‘s allway’s better to have than to need 😎 i‘m not realy sure, but basicly the Hydraulic Pump of a Power steering shall be also able to act as a Hydraulic motor. As far as i know just in one direction, but i be not realy bound on running direction, cause i need it primary to missuse it to got a shifting movment. So i will try, if this will work, and if have right direction whilst run, i had an fantastic implement in my Mind. firstly the Sicklebar can be driven by the Pump, actin* as an Oilmotor, if so i‘m able to improve it with a wider Belt. - why- ? Super simple, that belt shall be used to cleanup the Hedgecut and pull it beside ( in running direction only) where it maybe if direction is right, it can be automatically collected in a Bigpack i. Eg. i love this idea, another issue what can maybe automatically beeing done at hedgecutting in one single Step. So i tried if i can build a sicklebar mower, that shifts cutted material in windrow. If FEL is up, i can simply hung a Bigpack below, what collects the cuttet material. If that Bigpack is full, simply Lift it over Trailer and pickup next Bigpack to be filled... nice idea, if this work. Here are 2 Levers i firstly thinkin about using, right side will be the Hydraulic Pump, or maybe new Oilmotor with testmount how i believe to solve my idea. On the Pulley i can use a simple Carbelt (cheap) to windrow the cut. If this pump will be able to act as Oilmotor first step is done, depending on Torque it develops. if it runns quick enough, next step is hooked. Than the Mounting is much mor simple than i hoped. i‘m realy sure it will workin, but how fast and how strong, i‘m not sure about. (no datasheet to compare) curious if it comes to a solution that Way...

If WH didn't have so many neat and useful attachments I wouldn't need so many tractors. OK I am lying, I have way to many attachments and tractors for the 1/2 acre I live on. I can't help it.

I think I'll take the cake for 'oldest running B&S' There are mowers for sale now that you don't even check the oil. No drain. No level rod. Just drop the bottle on top of it. Seen a few locally. I'm sure riding mowers are coming this way.. I replace rocker arms by the monthly on a Kohler 20 a neighbor has. Its a shame how flimsy they are now..

That's very good I would not have expected a blower on a garden tractor to through such a snow trail. I guess I just need to buy an additional tractor with hydro and a snow blower. My 417 moves a lot of snow with the blade, but some times you have to really bull into it. If I have to much I plow with my farmall cub.

If you know a guy that does it I would ask him how well it hold up on a engine. I would guess pretty well looking at decks I had powdered and motors other guys have done. Yes the oil in the pores could be an issue another question to ask a coater. The thing to remember is the coated part gets baked in a 400 deg oven to cure it so that means nothing can go it the oven with it that might melt. seals, gaskets, o-rings ect. I have seen many car engine blocks powdered so guessing prep time is everything.

That's a meat grinder. There should be a crank handle on it. My wife's got a complete one and does use it for like bologna, ham or whatever spread.

As Kevin mentioned, i want a Wheelhorse that work like a Wheelhorse. 🇺🇸 If it‘s horizontal shaft or vertical who cares. My horse did it‘s jobs perfectly and a lot better than i ever expected, independently if it‘s horizontal or vertical shaft Engines. The only mistake, i made myself, by using a to weak Clutch after Engineswap.😎 I know, that i‘m Mad, but i‘m lucky with that. 😂

Looks like your push plate just floats on the main frame . I would suggest making or modifying the push plate to lock down to the main frame to prevent lateral movement and front support for the threaded shaft end. . Ears that wrap down under the frame?? Grind the top surface smooth. Secure the business end of the ram in a cage so it can't move side to side. Maybe even reuse/mod the one that's ther now? Fab a heavy bracket for the rear end to butt up against that angled frame.

Pretty cool space.... though I'm surprised you don't have it on a rotating platform!

If the seat springs are all the way back in the slots. Then my 520-H has adjustable tracks mounted on top of the springs. There is adjustment lever on the left side, mine is hung up and I can't get it to move more then about an inch or so and then goes back in the same hole. I'I'll check mine out to see why they don't work. I pulled the seat off. There is dirt or rust in the tracks as they don't move freely, with the persuasion of a rubber hammer I got both to move. The seat adjustment only moves 2 1/2" max.

The springs themselves are in slots in the tip up seat support as well. Are yours at the back all the way in the slots.

The 312-8 is a great all around tractor, it can do it all. I restored one for my son a few years ago. Give that horse a good bath top to bottom and maintenance service. A few tips: When you drain the transmission oil lift/jack up the front of the tractor several inches so the oil drains over the hump in the bottom off the transmission. If the old oil is nasty brown or milky grey (water) you might fill the tranny with diesel, drive it around a little shifting through each gear, that drain & refill with 90w gear lube. while the front of the tractor is lifted up and the weight is off the front axle, grease the center pivit pin and other front end grease fittings. PS...Your teasing us with just that engine shot.

It's important to remember that most of us are basically about 5 years old so we all really love pictures. It’s the only truly practical toy I’m allowed to own. I tinker on it like it’s a classic car and parts are sometimes an interesting story. It is actually a useful toy for plowing snow ( my favorite) to keeping the lawn cut and many other things depending on the size of your land. It’s simple enough and a very powerful machine. They’re from a by gone era that will never be back.

Yeah, a couple have popped up around here lately that I wouldn't have minded having, I just keep reminding myself I have three really good ones. Plus... I don't have any more room... lol

The new box store machines don't do a thing for me, and while I would like to have a sub-compact with a deck I can't really justify the price tag, although I may bite the bullet one of these days and get one. I enjoy running the older machines-they are tough, fairly dependable if maintained and much easier to work on if something does break. My neighbor has a nice orange diesel lawn tractor. It does a beautiful job when it's running, but at 450 hours none of the shops that have repaired it seem to be able to get the pto clutch to last more than a few hours without slipping (4 shops). He has spent more on repairs on this machine than I have spent on all my workers put together and I cut more grass than he does! The only newer machine I ever ran was my father in law's yellow mower with a Kohler Courage and it caught fire and burned to the ground a few years ago. I guess I worked it too hard??

They are a much cheaper hobby than old cars. You have to mow the grass anyway, may as well do it with your hobby. All problems are fixable with the help of this site. All parts are available somewhere, just need to do some digging. They grow on you and seem to reproduce.

My wife will tell you that I buy them just to pi$$ her off. My true reason is because I just like old iron. I also enjoy restoring them. Searching for parts, repairing what I have, making new parts, all to make them look & perform as good as new. These tractors will never be made again, I like knowing that the ones I have will have a chance to live on.

Trina and I are both big believers in "Use what ya have" "Do for yourself" We really try to be as independent as we can around the home and actually both of us have jobs where we work independently a lot of the time. We try to accomplish as much as we can without the help of others. The reason we bought ONE Wheelhorse is because it was recommended by a trusted Small Engine guy. The reason we bought the rest is because we bought the first one. They are heavy duty. Reliable. Easily maintained and repairable. And as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Trina really prefers the 60s models while I go for the 70s B and C models. Nowadays if you want one you can go to a big box store full of cheap crap and buy yourself a temporary lawn mower. To us, our old tractors are... EQUIPMENT. We both very thoroughly enjoy restoring and using them around the property.

My main grass cutter is a 520h with 355 hrs. Rotated between a 314h 42” deck, classic gt 42” deck, Kubota bx1500 w 54” deck, and the 520h 48” deck. The 520h is by far the smoothest and most effective of the group for my rocky clay weed yard.
