6 pointsWas originally listed for 700 wouldn't budge lower than 600 . Only problems I found are in the hood stand - steering column bushings are out and the hole is cracked and the bushings in the PTO engagement lever . This tractor wasn't used hard - not a leak or a seep anywhere. transmission oil was clean as a whistle no signs of water .

6 pointsTypical WH owner thinking that little red tractor will do everything all the time, and why wouldn't we.

4 pointsGetting “HAMMERED” with my freebie wheel weights today...

3 pointsWe started getting eggs a few days ago. Five or six now I think. The two on the left are from our neighbors adult chickens. I suppose that leaves the two on the right as our own. Absolutely delicious. We've had fresh eggs from local places and we loved them. Now we can pull them out of our own coop and ENJOY.

3 pointsEric, If I only need a short section (under 20'), I use MSC. Their link is mscdirect.com If I need some thing odd sized, McMaster Carr is also a good source, but usually priced higher than MSC. If I need more than 20', I go to my local steel distributor. Danny

3 pointsI see you have the very rare ladder rack option. A one year only option that just didn't catch on. Rumor has it the issue had something to do with driver comfort

2 pointsI picked up this 1944 Farmall B with a Henderson loader Saturday. It runs good, but the starter switch, even the new one, isn't making contact with the lug on the starter. I can fix that, with a couple of solutions, but for now, I'm just putting a wrench between the plunger on the switch and the arm that pushes against the plunger. Anyways, here are the pictures plus a video the seller sent me before I bought the tractor.

2 pointsThe problem is that there is only one Black Hood in the stable, which rumor has it, will be exported, no doubt under cover of darkness, to some foreign territory west of here... the horror...the horror...
-
2 pointsI would love to drive that in the Big Show Parade, just to see the look on Wild Bills face.
-
2 pointsStart plain. one heavy wire from battery to a big terminal on the solenoid, one small wire from that post to the ignition switch (B) terminal. One heavy wire from the other big solenoid terminal to the starter motor. One small wire from the ignition switch "S " terminal to the small post on the solenoid. Should crank when you turn the key to start.
-
2 pointsOk I'm going by my metal supplier tomorrow. I'll see if he has any.
-
2 pointsto the forum! Checking volts and continuity through the entire wiring system should be the first thing when troubleshooting, other than verifying connections (especially grounds). As Richard is telling you, there is some troubleshooting to be had. I’m not a fan of replacing a big handful of parts “thinking” they are bad, I’d rather pinpoint an issue then move on to the next.

2 points@ebinmaine here's a go kart "torq-a-verter" ... The belt rides at different heights in the sheaves as speed is increasing or decreasing there by changing the final drive ratio from low to high to in between just from the engine RPM.
-
2 pointsThat type drive setup requires a matching shape spring loaded driven pulley. I have never seen one with one side vee the other side straight. I had an industrial one but both side were veeed ran a standard vee belt. Mine had 8 steel balls that ran in grooves to the outside edge that closed the drive pulley that opened the driven pulley. went from 1 to 3 then to 1 to 1. The way they were designed the the spring on the driven wound tight as the pulley open up the spring was loaded and locked to the HP of the engine. We had them on mini bikes with 4 to 8 HP If they got away from you that spring on the driven had enough energy left to finish wiping you out. Closing the throttle did have any effect. With that gearing plus the chain gearing from a jack shaft to the wheel they would do 45 MPH at 3600 RPM. I still have the mini bike it's been upgraded to a Hodaka Super Rat 5 speed. I think that straight side is going to be a big problem with a vee belt.

2 pointsBeautiful EB. Enjoy it while you can, it will be snowing there next week.
-
2 pointsMy only concern would be the shape of the drive pulley vs the shape of the driven pulley. The fact that the belt gets tighter as you throttle up wouldn’t be an issue, if you keep the clutch/idler spring in place. It would essentially take up slack as it pulls tighter. I also wonder, what material belt would work best. The Kevlar / coated belt that we normally use might slip too much, it seems the kart style belt would be best if you can find one long enough.

2 pointsThe very rare Bhood 'Burb! I recently scored a 854 with a hood painted like that.....pinstripes too. Certainly adds character

2 pointsIf the hub only has one set screw, drill and tap the hubs for a second screw 90 degrees from the original.

2 pointsHere are the pictures of how Wheel Horse mounted the 520 on the 6 3/4" frame. they used a 1/4" plate 10" wide and 11 3/4" long with another 1 1/4" for the PTO loop in the center. Standard 6 3/4" wide frame the right side extends 1 1/2" the left side extends 1 3/4" past the frame. You may need a longer plate. Front right corner Right side Right rear corner Left side

2 pointsIn Hiram, Maine we are experiencing a heavy theft of wheel weights in the local construction supply lot. Hear tell a local tractor hoarder has been acting a bit “mad.” Reporting from the newsroom, this is Pullstart. Back to you, Johnny! Two more words EB : lead bars

2 pointsWe have several 1054's and one 1054-A. Main difference on 1054-A is frobnt and rear tires on the original tractor. Turf type tread on back and wider tires on front than the 1964 model. Wheel Horse advertised and sold 1054 and 1054-A into 1966 (see company advertisement literature). I do not know of any knob differences on shifter , etc. The 953 had white knobs on the Throttle and Choke cables and black on the 1054- and 1054-A's. These are really great tractors. The early 953's had the Ross steering gears. The demand for the tractor forced Wheel Horse to develop a fan gear as they could not get enough Ross steering gears to meet demand. The Ross steering gear was being used and sold in a number of other model garden tractors at teh time. The 953/1054/1054-A is the first garden tractor with a 48 inch Mower Deck made in the USA. The first photo of four of our 1054 s was used in the "American Pickers" TV Show shown on December 4, 2014 (The Grudge Match) when they bough a 633 Wheel Horse Garden Tractor in Iowa. The picture was used as backup history on the Wheel Horse company in the segment.

2 pointsAWESOME...is really the only word that comes to mind. Since the tractor isn’t at my house, I can’t measure for you at this time but I would say that they are 1-1.5” deep lugs. However, the pattern doesn’t make for a clunky ride when on solid surface. I definitely recommend them for any Big Wheel guy that wants a tractor look with lots of bite at a decent price. Oh yea...if you are prone to wrapping your fingers around the fender while driving, I wouldn’t recommend this size tire on your tractor Essentially, I feel that they look good from any angle. More importantly, they work great!
