I received these pictures from the customer last night. The table top needs to be drilled now for inserts then we can screw the two together. There will be ivory in the chairs and all the cabinetry handles are deer antler. All the woodwork is from the same tree, remember!

The Dacusville Farm Show is a new one for me, today was my first time, but it won't be my last. There was a little of everything and a well organised casual gathering. @turnnleft had a great display and I enjoyed hanging out with him and his family. If you've attended the "Big Show" you have probably seen Jacky and his grandson on this two seater. Jacky's son, daughter in-law and grandson rode it in the parade. There was a lot of variety at the show, enjoy! Hot Rod Lincoln! Love those antlers! Don't let @Ed Kennell see this!

I don't even have to think about it Get the 79 as long as it runs it's a bigger heavier more capable machine and you've got two implements with it. Even if it needs work it's just a better value.

I recently inherited this 1999 Toro/Wheelhorse Model HXL 17/44. My first though when looking at it was to just junk it. But after playing around with it I've decided to keep it...for now anyway. This thing sat out side a long time. But after some tinkering I discovered that it runs and drives well. Biggest replacement part I need is a new hood ($577 at Partstree) , but most other parts seem to be available. This is the newest and the first Hydro powered unit i've ever owned....although the hydro transaxle doesn't appear to be serviceable.

Exactly! My Dads got a 79 C101. Mowing, plowing and tilling. That’s me back in ‘85!

Guy changed the oil annually and every year would take the deck off and clean and repaint it. Turns out he was some sort of developer/designer for Toro. Threw in two sets of chains for the tires and was happy I was excited to get my hands on it. Called my dad after the last post and he went and wrote the guy a check. I'll be picking up And trailering home tonight or tomorrow depending on when I can get on the road. As always, you guys are the best! Thanks for the info! I'll post up pics when I get my hands on er! 👍👌🔥

Finally found a Black Hood roller locally (10 minutes away)!!! C-85 frame and guts, C-105 hood, and it will be powered with a never started, brand new Lifan 9 HP with electric start (came from my son's high speed winch project, which also donated the frame for my wheel barrow trailer build 2.0 described on another thread)... So, I guess its gonna be a C-85, 95, 105...! (Another custom decal design coming your way eventually @Vinylguy!!!) All Good cuz its Black Hood!!! Came with a couple extra WH rear wheels and chains (can you say dually?) and has the old plastic fender (may or may not use...). All in all - happy for a new project. Will keep you posted as things go along...

Nope, I'm not going to comment on cleaning bras.

HHHMMM... Kinda hybrid, sorta this, sorta that, roller...Just what I was looking for... Came with extra set of tires and chains...

I think I would buy your Dad a 12 pack and give him a big THANK YOU.
  11. 4 points
It may work, but if you don't use the deck, why not trade it for a WH plow that you can lift and angle. You can add wheel weights or fill the tires with washer fluid.

Took the C160 and a few small engines up to a show I attend annually in Lindsay, TX, up near Gainesville. I had planned on taking all of my Horses, my Bantam and my CC1650 but we had quite a bit of rain the last few days and I figured my 2wd Dodge would get stuck if I had a trailer - turns out I made a good call, it rained nearly 4 inches there yesterday. I was unloading it on way too steep of an angle with some 2x12 ramps and about half way down the front of the tractor came up and nearly flipped over on me - luckily my dad was close behind and pushed the tractor back down. It landed abruptly and when it hit the ramps, the rotten grommet in the bottom of the tank let go... emptying the tank. Walked around and bought a WW2 era Wisconsin generator to borrow the tank from and I was back in business. Registered for the parade but didn't find the tank in time. I was given registration number 161.. Should've shown up a little earlier and got 160! Oh well.. There were a handful of garden tractors there. All that I knew of are pictured except for an AMF that a guy said he had there. I practically tried to give away the dang HH120 off of my C120.. Nobody wanted it unfortunately. And of course, pictures! Sorry if this is the wrong section for this.

34163 would be a Second Generation 953 with Ross Steering and would have left the factory with the same headlights and steering wheel as the 1054, but the bends in the seat frame would have been smooth rather than dimpled. 49349 would be a late production 1054 or a very early production (1965) 1054A. Based on the tires and rims I will agree with @Shynon that it is a 1054A. I wouldn't change a thing on that one, perhaps some new decals on the hood side, but otherwise it is PATINA PERFECT!
  20. 3 points
Now the old tractors... A mostly complete but non running 953. It has some cobbler items like the Cub steering wheel and the fishing boat seat. I have most of the sheet metal for it. @953 nut Dick can you verify these serial numbers for me when you get a chance? The owner tells me he won’t separate the tractors or all the stuff that they come with... Tractor number two is a 1054 that has a Patina @Shynon would love! the decals are gone and it has thick Patina everywhere but the K241 runs AMAZINGLY well, hydraulics work great as it was attached to a grader blade when I arrived. It also came with with several well worn mower decks, and two push blades—one big one and one HUGE one! I was in a hurry to get everything loaded and make it back home before dark and so I didn’t really get a chance to look over everything well yet...

I've been getting a few things ready for this build over the last few weeks and today decided it's time to start a thread. This will be a C-series ... Named Colossus. And for good reason. It'll have the BIG Kohler twin K582 powerplant. 8 speed. Rear tires somewhere in the 27"-30" height range. Fronts will likely be oversized as well but not sure yet. It'll be approximately 5 to 6 inches taller, several inches wider, and longer (because of the battery and fuel tank location) than a normal C Series. The rear fenders are from an early 60s Horse and have been modified to bolt to the flat step boards of a 68+ model. The hood stand and fenders will need to be raised... I think... around 4" to clear the engine and tall rear tires. I'll most likely use some 4" tall rectangular steel stock for that. Here's a few pics of the engine coming out of the generator trailer frame. I put my recently purchased chain falls to good use. Out and hanging from the scale. 176 pounds!! Now for comparison I weighed a 12 horse single. 138... Here's a few pictures to show the size of the big twin compared to a 12 single. The K582 measures about 20" across the front. I'll need at least 24" front to back in the tractor so I can remove the oil filter which will be accessed right near the steering column/gear. This engine will stick out from under the right side hood almost 4" after installation. This hood will be removed in favor of a C Series hood but this is the chassis I'll be using. I'll also swap the 4 speed to an 8 so I have a low for reverse. The tiny little battery box and fuel tank shelf will be removed to make space for the engine. Note the fenders Not sure if I'll be able to use it yet... This axle was all custom made. It's about 6" narrower than a stock C axle. It would look cool but I'd rather have it wider for stability.... The battery and fuel tank will probably be moved to the front of the tractor. Battery even with the frame and fuel tank above it. The hood will be lifted straight up and removed instead of tilted forward. I'll sketch up something and share that later. Not positive on the color yet but leaning towards Rust-Oleum 2X Apple Red. My lead dismantler and head paint specialist is working on painting the house for a few weeks so this'll be a long project. I'd be pretty happy to be able to use it for logging next season.

But I Kinda like the beat up tough guy look, so not sure where this build is gonna go... paint, no paint...single or dually, strictly a cruiser or set up to work... Choices choices choices...

agree with 857 horse , on the drive around, even better if you have a section of road that you can drive on and heat things up, did that on a used tractor i picked up. started out with stiff shifting and with drive time and using all gears and range changes , backing up hill it started getting easier . today the gear lube looks fresh, and it shifts with no issue, also replace the shiftier boot , use silicone grease on the boot shiftier hole and the larger inner edge , for easy replacement, cut off old with a razor blade, pete

Back in the mid seventies right after I got my first car, a 1963 corvair, I found an old piece of plywood and strapped it to the bumper to push most of the snow away. It fell apart till I was done but I was able to accomplish my mission! Rear engine, rear wheel drive helped alot with traction. Not my actual car, at that time I didn't take any pictures of it.
  32. 2 points
You got the right one . Being new to this, a little advice, when they say they got X amount of money in it, especially $2000.00 in it and no paper work to back it up take it with a grain (grains) of salt. Same goes for rebuilt engines, and trans. Welcome to the madness.
  33. 2 points
Salt is not a problem. I do not intend to use the plow for the bottom of the driveway and the deck will be sealed off at the bottom with heavy plastic sheet. I expect to use the plow only for up to three inches of snow (which I would normally use a shovel). Beyond that, my snow blower handles the deeper storms.

I used a Loncin Brand for my Verticalengine Horse 212-5 That fit’s and works perfect, i‘m honestly satisfied about Startup and even running. Also after i equipped my Horse with Hydraulics, this Engine just do it‘s job since 3/4 Year. Especialy in Winter Service i loved the quick starting Engine the only Maintenance was oilchange and Airfilter check and cleanup from Time to Time. Important: before i swapped the Engine (an old Onan with ripped Cylinherhead) i compare all sources, what is with the Engines. The Loncin was the cheapest with all Attachments complete Carb, intake Outle Exhaust. It was a simple“swap and run“ Engine. Just the Throttlewire have to be adapted, but that was not big Deal and in the Paperworks good described. The whole Engineswap was a 2h Job, with adaptations for Charger and throttle 3h.
  35. 2 points
Good luck with you purchase. btw, i‘m also for the 79. Why? Because of belly feeling after just seeing the Pics. important i found, it has to fireup and run easily.
  36. 2 points
I have to agree the 79 is the best bet, I'm working on a 79 c161 eight speed as I type this and as usual I am very impressed with how well built these horses were, very strong and easy to work on, and this site has all the info you will ever need.

Ed, that might be the best solution in the long run. The deck on the tractor with the plow is in like new shape. I’d like to hold onto it for the day when my older deck on my mower Wheel Horse (1067) craps out. In the meantime, I have no room to store it and I want a plow on the SK-486 to help with the driveway on those days when there’s not enough snow to use the blower. Keeping the deck on the tractor with the plow has the side benefit of giving me an additional 200lbs to offset not having wheel weights. Lastly the wood plow is slightly shorter than a standard Wheel Horse plow, it weighs much less, and it rides a quarter inch above the driveway so there is no scraping against the new concrete. As long as I haven’t created something that will damage the tolerances of the tractor, I’m kinda interested to see whether this concoction will solve all of these variables.

Yeah the 66 guy said he was firm on the $300 because the tires he claims were $240... The '79 guy said he's got over $2000 into it and just had the tranny and motor rebuilt!!!! Thanks everyone, going to the sale tonight and crossing my fingers nobody snached it up since yesterday. My old man sent me the pics and video. I told him to have them hold it for me but he had already left by the time i got the messages. Have a wonderful Weekend folks!!

I have to agree, the 79 C series is the way to go. A real work horse. If there's some money left over buy the other one too.
  41. 2 points
Just for the record, I'm totally serious. .. in case you needed any incentive I live about 70 minutes pretty much straight north of KTP. I have most of enough parts to build to either B or C Series and I only want to make one more.
  42. 2 points
Agreed. Trina and I have been together for a little over four years and neither one of us had cable at the time and still don't. No TV hook up. Last year I even canceled internet. All I have to connect to the web is my almost smartphone... Yeah you just jump in the truck and take a little jaunt up to Maine. I'll give you enough parts to build a Frankentractor. That'll keep you busy. I dare you.

Well I started with the Wheel Horses as a kind of hobby/therapy. Some might call it self abuse or as you said “a glutton for punishment” but it sure beats the heck out of sitting on the couch with the remote in one hand. Besides look at all the neat new tools I bought and the others that I want and tell the wife that “I REALLY NEED” to do this next job. The only problem that I have now is I am out of room. I am not sure WHERE I’m going to store this one. Let alone the 79 C81 under a tarp in the back yard. As I used to tell the sailors that worked for me.....This is the Adventure Part!!!
  44. 1 point
I'll hold him while you swing the 2x4! Good that you thought to keep the choke closed while working in there. Those screws around the carburetor should have blue thread locker because if they come out the engine is "screwed." Yes, that hose is spent. When you install the air cleaner base, grease that hose so it slides in.
  45. 1 point
to the Without good detail pictures, it is difficult to make an accurate estimate of value. The pictures you have indicate the tractor and snow plow are in poor condition. The Tecumseh HH120 is not a desirable engine and if the tractor was used with he missing drive belt guard, the 3 speed unidrive transmission may have gear damage. Your location is also a big factor in determining value. In my location, The tractor is worth $50-100 The snow plow with the axle bracket $100-150 The deck $50-100 Entire package $150 - 250

Nice looking D. I wouldn't mind having a D-180 or a D-200, but my budget isn't agreeing with me, plus half of me would like to move a bit further into the ag tractors.

Busy day working on this tractor today. I pulled the wheels, gas tank and cooling fan off and finished cleaning the transaxle. The fan was covered in dirt and grass so I cleaned that up with a plastic scraper and then a simple green bath. Dumped the old gas and my dad cleaned the outside of the gas tank up while I scrubbed the wheels. Changed the hydro filter, ran new fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump, put the tank back in and wheels back on and then I drained the hydro transaxle. Filled that back up with Mobil 1 10w-30 high mileage. While I was waiting on the oil to work into the transaxle, I changed the fuel line on the outlet side of the pump and put a new fuel filter in, then I changed the trans drive belt. Buttoned everything back up and cranked it up. Fuel filter filled right up, before it barely got any fuel in it. Still need to change the impulse line and the line from the filter to the carb. Engine runs much better now, still a slight surge, but I think changing the rest of the lines and tweaking the carb a little should fix that. Now I can pull all the engine tins off and get that all cleaned up.

I dunno that you do need more than one. My dad did mowing, plowing, blowing, tilling, and towing for over 20 years with a single 310-8.
