11 pointsHi Everyone, I am a rookie so please bear with me. I have been cruising this site for a little bit (still trying to navigate my way around) gathering all the info I can, there is a lot of great knowlege out there so...thank you! I recently acquired my dad’s 1970 or 1971 (I think it’s a 1971?) GT14 and I’m really excited about it. I spent many hours mowing our property when I was growing up so I kinda feel like it’s an old friend. It hasn’t been used for quite some time (my estimation is maybe 25 years). Luckily, it has been kept/stored inside most of its life. I, with the help of a great friend, am working on getting it going again and trying to get it into top shape. I am looking for a new/used working rocker switch for the lights, any suggestions? Also, what are the advantages of the 3 point hitch? I am familiar with a 3 point hitch with a rear pto, but not sure what it is used for without a rear pto. It has the belly mower deck which was used often and the front snowblower which was only used once. I am posting some pictures, it’s a work in progress. 8 pointsA fellow purchased an old building in Rossburn Manitoba, all he was after was the lot. When the wrecking crew was dismantling the building which at one time was used as a photo studio. Stuffed in between the walls some 2500 glass negatives were discovered, this type of medium used to make a photographic print is by contact, the glass with the image is placed over a photo sensitized paper ( dark room or under cover ) if the image were exposed in the darkroom an artificial UV light source such as that produced from a carbon arc lamp, an outdoors exposure by sunlight. Both the image captured on glass and the paper which will receive the print are both enclosed in a light tight box, on a very bright sunny day the box would be opened for a few seconds, on a cloudy day it might take as long as several minutes to make the exposure. The glass used to capture the image as seen through the view camera is actually a positive. One long cold winter Pat and myself digitized these images, the pictures posted are first and last. The studio pictures are very boring with the same background setting. From the 2500 images there may have been 30 notable images. Life in the early days, enjoy.

There is absolutely no garbage... Just good folks with a wide variety of interests and skills who are just a bit “off” in a good way when it comes to ‘s and the “need” for them in our lives...

6 pointsI’m restoring a 81 C-125 and the mounts are shot. I contacted Zack Kerber to see if he was interested in making some for the Wheel Horse guys. The Cub solid mounts are different and won’t work. He told me to send a old mount in and this is what he came up with. He modeled them from the stock mount and they fit perfect. Not sure if they are on his web site yet.

5 pointsHad the day off so I figured I’d get the plow situation set while I wait for mower deck parts. I have the rear tires weighted to 90# ea. The old ag tires are dried out and have some cracks but still hold air tubeless. I have a set of chains but they do a number on the driveways I plow. I see a tire spray that’s supposed to improve traction. Anyone ever try it? Is there something out the to soften old rubber? I the really don’t wanna drop $160 on new tires when these still hold air. 😁 That’s my 4”x3/16” plow edge. It’s a 50” long piece I got from the cut pile at the local steel yard. It was cheap and has lasted a long time. I flipped it for the first time. I may put tubes and fill my fronts with RV antifreeze. I’m also gunna make a downpressure link soon. I haven't used it to plow in about 5 years due to transmission issues that are now solved and some timing adjustments that quelled almost all of my engine knocks.

3 pointsHey All, I just inherited a 414-8 from my late father in law. It was his pride and joy, so I have been working on getting it restored. I probably put more into it than is worth, but it’s all good. New starter, tires, battery, fuel lines, and now working on rebuilding the transmission. Once that’s done.. should be good to go.

3 pointsThumming through Facebook and ran across these two wagons for sale not far from me. Im going to pick them up on Friday. I know the one us a wheel horse but not sure of the other. 50 bucks for both! So I just got home with these two wagons in line them up and got to looking and they both have the same exact wheels as each other. The dust covers are all the same as well but I can't find any markings on the other. As I got to talking to the lady her husband had a wheel horse a few years back. I just connected the dots.

2 pointsHad finished the Raider 12 and there was the lift, sitting there EMPTY.......... This is my $400 "barn find". It's a 94 416-8 with a little over 1100 hours. It had been sitting for about 4 years after the PO bought a zero turn. The guy I work for part time told me his uncle had a Wheel Horse in his shed and he might want to get rid of it. He sent me some pictures. It really looked like a brown lump. But he did clean off the ID tag. The shed turned out to be more of a "run in" with a dirt floor (and it didn't face east) Took the power washer to it and YEP There was a Wheel Horse underneath. New battery, fuel lines,spark plugs and an air filter and it ran like a champ. Even mowed the front yard with it. Couldn't stand looking at the empty life so.......Let the fun Begin!

2 pointsfirst let's just remind everybody that there's no such thing as a stupid question... Except for the one you failed to ask. I don't know about the very very early Kohler engines in the 60s but the ones we run in the late 60s and 70s seem to do just fine on unleaded gas. your biggest issue is to make sure you are NOT PUTTING ETHANOL in your tractor. Pure gas is the best way to go.

2 pointsto be honest it's been a year or so since I've even read that post but I remember thinking I probably could assemble that with some patience. My mechanical ability is fairly decent but I am certainly no Automotive or small engine technician. if you've been working on cars and farm equipment in the past you probably can handle building something that that just fine but it's a matter of how often you might use it. Trina and I started fiddling around with these tractors just two or three years ago and I am just now starting to delve into the engine work end of things. It's likely much more cost-effective for you to find a small engine or equipment repair business nearby you.

2 pointsNICE!!! My Dad had one blackhood with wobble mounts and I had a 1979 C-141. We both hated the mounts. The blackhood got sold and I fabricated solid mounts but I don't remember what I did. It got sold too. These mounts are clean (I like that) and definitely priced right. I've got half a notion to get a set just to have in my stash in case...…..

2 pointsWelcome to the forum Bianca! I’m so glad you found us and decided to join. That is one BEAUTIFUL GT-14. I’m so glad that it was passed on to someone who appreciates it for what it is and recognizes the sentimentality of those old memories. If you have any old pictures of you or other family members using or around the tractor, please post them. We love those old photos. So...what are your plans with the tractor? Are you planning to use it as a worker, getting running as a play machine, hang on to it as a fully functional show tractor, or... Looks like wiring is your biggest challenge right now. I can’t wait to see that thing running again.

2 pointsWelcome to red square, I wish mine started out in the shape yours is in, as far as the switches go the light switch can still be found as they were used on different models the pto switch on the hand can be difficult to find and expensive, I took mine apart and cleaned the contacts and it seems to be working just fine, I also added a relay to the pto switch so the switch was not taking the load of the pto and arcing across the contacts in the switch. 2 pointsThese do not. They still use them to grind grain but mainly for demonstration purposes. Years past there were hundreds of them all over but only a few dozen work now. The others are in a state of decay many of them just having walls. Government now considers them national monuments and subsidizes their restoration and maintenance. Sadly only the original owners really know how to work them and they are all in their 70s. This particular one has also a water cooled Diesel engine for when there is no wind which never really happens here. Electrical power is supplied by the thousands of the modern ones on top of every hill.

2 pointsHere’s a few pics of my new stallion 😀 I have bought my first Wheel Horse, because my better half has 3 Equine horses and being the unpaid stable boy that I am, she decided I could do with a little mechanical help around the yard and with a limited budget only a wheel horse would do, so I got my little Raider 10 for a cool £200. I have a fair mechanical knowledge, usually i spend my time tinkering on Classic Mini’s, so use to breakdowns and continuous TLC to keep vehicles going. Agricultural mechanicals are new to me, so I’m looking forward to the new challenges a Wheel horse brings and joining the Wheel horse community 😀

2 pointsYou've found the right place for friendly WH help. The Raider 10 with a 12 hp Kohler is a solid tractor. Tell us a little about you've self, and how mechanically inclined your are. it will help us guide you. Fuel pouring out the carburetor is not normal. A carb rebuild may be needed, but there's some simple things to do before that. It sounds like the carb float is stuck open. On the bottom of the carb is a round bottomed aluminum bowl held on by one bolt in the center. Take this bowl off. You will see the carb float hanging down, and a black rubber gasket above it. The bowl will probable have some gummed up ethanol fuel nuggets in it. Also remove the rubber gas line at the carb. Get a spray can of carb cleaner ( I like the real stuff, many brands, just not the environmentally friendly stuff that doesn't work IMHO) Spray the carb cleaner down the fuel fitting and gently move the float up and down. You are trying to clean the rubber tipped needle valve without disassembling the carb. As you spray, the cleaner should be dripping out the bottom of he carb. Now hold the float up and see if the needle will seal and hold the spray in. If it will clean the bowl and put it back on. Getting the old black rubber gasket to reseal can be a problem, but it's worth a try. you may also want to remove the 2 brass carb adjusting screws on the top sides of the carb. 1st gently turn them in clockwise and count the number of full/partial turns each goes in until it stops. The remove the screws and spray carb cleaner through the holes to wash them out. On the long screw look at it with a magnifier glass and you will see a middle and lower set of holes. Spray these holes out. If needed gently clean them with a very fine wire. Reinstall these adjusting screws and set them to the number of turns open you originally found them. Hopefully it will start. You probable will want to replace the old fuel lines, possible clean out the tank, and maybe do a full carb overhaul once you prove it will run.

2 pointsDubs.. You have certainly come to the right place anything ! Fuel coming out of the carb usually means a stuck float. Try tapping on the bowl gently and see if you can get it to unstick. I and the other fellas who will soon be along to greet you are going to suggest a carb cleaning. Heed this advice ther may be dirt in ther. We are also going to suggest replacing ALL fluids and fuel lines along with a new fuel filter. It's just one of the first things to do on a new to us horse. Don't worry these are all easy things to do even if you are as mechanically challenged as some of us. I won't mention names @ebinmaine.

2 pointsThe engine knocks and rattles on the old girl have been bugging me for years now. So I figured I’d see what closing the point gap would do. She got a brand new plug too. 👍 Dialed them back to 0.016 runs very smooth and a lot quieter. I know for sure now I have a loose camshaft and piston slap. Time to start hiding $$ for a rebuild. 😁😇
