6 points@Sparky i was in several Forums (also as moderator) in the past, just the ammount of users has nearly nothing to say. It tells you just one: RedSquare was a interesting place, where it will be worth to be. You don‘t have to agree to each thing anybody says, but you can respect his meaning. Respect can also be to leave it uncommented. My personal experiences shows me, it ain’t the ammount of Members that brings quality into a Forum, it just was the few permanent useful and friendly Guy’s, they help everybody and keep a good, clean and nice speakin together. To have differently meanings is one, but to clear it with mutual respect and with eye level talkin is the essence of a good Forum. In my opinion, that was the reason why RedSquare has such a lot of „still members“. So i wanna use that Thread and thank the Initiators, the Admins, the moderators, and all the Guy‘s who handled with respect for that great Forum, what is far ahead than other Forums. It is more than just a Forum, it feels to me, it is a Place where fella’s and buddy‘s and friends like to stay. Just my 2 cent

5 pointsHad finished the Raider 12 and there was the lift, sitting there EMPTY.......... This is my $400 "barn find". It's a 94 416-8 with a little over 1100 hours. It had been sitting for about 4 years after the PO bought a zero turn. The guy I work for part time told me his uncle had a Wheel Horse in his shed and he might want to get rid of it. He sent me some pictures. It really looked like a brown lump. But he did clean off the ID tag. The shed turned out to be more of a "run in" with a dirt floor (and it didn't face east) Took the power washer to it and YEP There was a Wheel Horse underneath. New battery, fuel lines, spark plugs and an air filter and it ran like a champ. Even mowed the front yard with it. Couldn't stand looking at the empty life so.......Let the fun Begin!

5 pointsI enjoy the site, it's one of last forum based tractor sites that's still around. glad to see a strong membership and hopefully it's around for a few more years. even though it's strictly a wheelhorse based forum I appreciate that I can occasionally post a few "off brand" tractor topics to culture you

4 pointsHello All, Helped out a friend that needed a 54" Craftsman deck... I had one and I helped put it on his Husqvarna (same tractor...) get it set level and mowing perfect for him. I ended up with a minty 1999 Toro Wheel Horse 15/38 HXL. I know I know... its not a REAL Wheel Horse but its as clean as it gets and runs as good as it looks. I kinda like the stupid thing, I might part with it if somebody needs a step thru "easy on / easy off" riding mower. I did send a message to one of the most liked senior citizen members here in CT but havent heard back if theres any interest. Tony

4 pointsPicked up this 10" plow made by Independent Mfg. has more adjustments than a Brinly worked out real well on the 953 used a slot hitch adapter from Lowell.

4 points@gwest_ca, that seemed to do it. Sounds like it just rolled out of the store now. I had to starve it of air about 4 times, and now it runs like a top. @Stormin, the tank actually looked pretty good. I should’ve taken a picture of the bowl and carb before I cleaned em, looked like the 80s National Geographic of the Titanic. Fingers crossed that it continues to run like it is, thanks for the help gentlemen!

4 points@pfrederi and @bds1984 And others... I performed the wet compression test this evening and the results show that the rings are worn some. Facing the engine: Left cylinder, dry. 95 lb Left cylinder, wet. 105 lb Right cylinder, dry. 125 lb Right cylinder, wet. 140 lb Following this test I started delving into why I had no spark. The other night I had replaced the switch that turns the coils off and on. Still no spark. Took the points cover off and looked at them. FILTHY! Checked continuity and result was the same open or closed. 0 continuity. Sanded the points. Had spark! I know this because my thumb got belted. I also know this because I was using an actual spark checker. But believe me when I say the belted thumb was definitely a more positive indication than any light bulb I've ever seen before. I messed around for an hour or two after that and eventually got the engine to run for a few seconds by pouring gasoline directly into the carb throat. Maybe two or three seconds was the longest run and it sounded great. I have figured out that it will ONLY run with the choke very nearly closed. I'll order a carb rebuild kit and see what happens after that.

4 pointsAfter the move my wife decided she wanted something a little roomier than the car so I gave her my truck. My nephew decided he needed a crewcab for the baby so he sold me my dad’s truck back. He got this a couple of years before my dad passed but it is pretty much the same way it was when dad had it and in great shape. So we decided to get it and I would drive it. So I picked it up monday and then today I got a 7x14 enclosed trailer today. Need that to haul the horses and the rest of our stuff north. Hopefully @stevebo likes this one.

3 pointsWhat means proud to me? it‘s very simple. i‘m proud of things like that.... Harvesting today another 3 Plants, result was 5 Kilo‘s, bit less than last 3 Plants but still enough for a Week. Doing things my Way and get such a response, that makes me really Proud. Until now i just had 1 rotten potatoe attacked by a mouse in this row, all the rest was usable, some are a bit small, because my curiosity, but every Harvest was a win for me. for only biological handling, i have heard a good result. But the best of all was the Taste.

3 pointsI have a K17 twin Series 2 and an 18 Magnum twin. They are my 'go to' tractors for winter snow moving. Very dependable. Much easier to work on than the Onan twins. Do the routine maintenance, and they'll take care of you for a long time. I would just avoid the early K17T (series 1) that had poor oil circulation unless you know its history. Jim

3 points@ebinmaine 100% agree, additional take care, no water in tank by filling with reserve canister. had also an issue with our scooter, if it‘s run with choke all seems good. just if choke was out, the engine spits and stalled. today i dismounted the whole carb and found a minidrip of water at main nozzle in the carb. didn‘t know where the Water in Bowl comes, so i investigate closer. firstly i think i comes from Gas trigger wire, a known issue at this Engines, but i‘m wrong. a bit pressurized Air and all was fine for a short testdrive, but by drove back, same issue happens again. We filled just by reserve canister, so i drained the fueltank in an empty pepsi bottle, to see what‘s happened, After i did this, i see a small line of Water onto the Fuel. At least i Drained the whole Tank, refilled with clean fresh Fuel cleaned once more the Carb and i‘m done. the new Fuelline was required, because the old begins to have light rips.

3 pointstwo things about this improvement, first is the removal of the wheel roll pin, in addition to lubricating the pin area, you must back up the side of the wheel for impact bounce. what i do is get some help to hold a solid 2x4 between the wheel edge and a wall, to increase your impact force at the roll pin. use a same size small punch and a hammer on the roll pin end, that will start removal. use never seize on reinstall , to insure easy smooth fit. i think the steel 2 bolt 3/4" flanges available on the net , are the way to go, much stronger and cheaper. having done this transition a number of times , these steps make it easier and your results are very solid . this is my own experience , good luck with it, pete

3 pointsEnjoy it! My favorite part of gardening is definitely the part about rolling dirt. All the work in between that and my stomach is necessary, but the first step is my favorite!

-
3 pointsOk! Like most Kohlers! The bad ones are only from people who have not changed the oil, ran them out of oil.
-
3 pointsIf you substitute your hands or a rag for the choke will it keep running? It is possible the low speed circuit is lean which the coke will mask as long as it is choked. With the engine running at high speed cut the air intake off instantly and see if the vacuum will pull a restriction on through. When it almost quits allow air to enter again. Repeat. Called a rev-up tune-up. Sometimes it works. Garry

3 pointsOver 24,000 have joined to date and about 350 are here on an average day. Lots of people come here for one specific item they want to sell and others, like me, seeking answers to a question and then they find out how many great people are here and stick around.

2 pointsHi everyone. Well finally found my first Wheel Horse a few months back.. Its a 1966 1057 . Its in pretty decent shape . All original except the steering wheel. Has the original Wheel horse tires on it yet . Not to good though. I got a snow plow and the deck with it. Has the original 10 horse Kohler. I think it had some engine work done to it . There is another tag on it . i think it has something to do with the bearings. It runs and sounds good. no smoke. So my plans are to strip the tractor down and restore it. I started tearing everything apart. Taking a lot of pictures. And labeling everything. and making diagrams of stuff. The rear and trans seams pretty good .Gear oil nice and clean. The axles don't have any play or slop. Looks like somebody might have repaired them. . The rear axles measure 1 1/18 . Is that correct for this rear ? I thought 1 1/8 axles were in 8 speeds only. I'm just learning. Don't know. I really appreciate all the help from all of you guys on this great forum. I don't think i would have bought a wheel horse if it wasn't for this forum. I will be asking you guys a lot of questions. So i hope you don't get mad at me. I'm not to good with computers either. So you might have to bear with me. I am going to try to post some pictures . I know you guys like pictures . I finally finished the hood this morning. Thai isn't going to be know show tractor. Just a nice restoration of it , i Hope...............I am using Duplicolor red engine enamel with ceramic in it. 5 coats of red .Then i wet sanded it. Then buffed it. Then waxed it. NO clear coat. It turned out pretty nice . It looks much nicer in real life. All the parts will be stripped to bare metal.. So here's some pictures . I hope. They only let me put 2 pictures on . I will try it again. Thanks again everyone. Bob..................

2 pointsI use the small wires on a torch tip cleaner to run through all the holes. spray them out with carb cleaner, then gently run the wire through again, repeat.

2 pointsSo the story of how I came about locating this little fella.......I’m 34 years old back when I was 17 my family were coming home from a tractor show and hour away , came through this little town and I spotted this Wheelhorse beside there old garage. Dad did a quick turn around and we stopped in. The gentleman said he was still using it for the garden work so it wasn’t for sale...( the Kohler was in it and the hood wasn’t chopped back then if my memory serves me right) ive always thought about whatever happened to the old tractor whenever I’d drive by the house...I always wanted to stop in and see if it was there but something was always happening like in a hurry to get home or there was no vehicle there........today we happened to be near the town and I thought of the tractor and said I’m going there and today there was a vehicle there. I knocked on the door and told the son (60) years old how my dad had stopped in years ago, he agreed to let me in the house to talk to his parents. They were so happy to talk to me about it and tell me stories about the old RJ. The son brought me out back to the run down old garage that it sits in. Apparently it hasn’t ran in 2 years. He agreed that I could take some pictures. The father does not want to sell it but the wife says she bought it years back so she gets the say she told me that when they have passed away the son is in charge of it and he can sell it then. I got his number and they wanted mine. Was invited back to visit anytime so I’m holding onto that relationship. I’m hoping and praying I’m in line for it in the future

2 pointsMany moons ago, I bought a new Stihl. Never liked it from day one. Was actually happy when some sucker stole it! 24 years ago I bought a Husky 36. Still runs like brand new. Took the advice from my brother who was in the tree business and had used every brand out there.

2 pointsThere has been a lot of activity on the Registry regarding the Senior tractors. A new one was located and a few have changed owners. When the Registry started we had 26 listed now we are over 60. If you go to any shows and see one please pass the owners info on to me so we can keep track of these survivors. If you have a Senior and are not sure if you are on the list contact me at rsgreco@embarqmail.com We are looking for engine serial numbers, this helps identify the year of the tractor and gives us a look at how many were produced in a year. It is very sad that these rare tractors are still unidentified, In the Studebaker Museum they have a Gibson tractor on display but have it listed as a 1946 Pond Lever Steer. Thank you ! Ron Greco

2 pointsJust used it to mow my neighbors lawn, ran strong the entire time. They’ll be picking it up this afternoon. A period of instruction will occur before they leave to keep it from happening again. Have I mentioned I love Red Square lately?

2 pointsLook Ma! Twins! These are nice. I considered these same type of structures a couple years ago for firewood storage at our club. The threat of ice, snow load and tree limbs falling on them pushed us in another direction. I think Shelter Logic was the brand we arrived at from the narrowed down field of potential manufacturers. Thumbs up! Dave

2 pointsLooks like ya have plenty of space to store stuff now! Something to consider, when it snows and the snow slides off right side of the left garage and the left side of the right garage it will all collect in the small space in between. Not sure if it’ll do damage, but maybe something to consider.

2 pointsYou're doing some really nice work If you're planning on posting a lot of pictures, you might consider becoming a supporter. That way you can post as many pictures you want to. And being we all want to follow the great job you're doing , I'd recommend it

2 pointsWell after reading through this post I feel quite humbled. I do have and have had issues of one kind or other. Nothing like you lads though. Two bad divorces. Injured back and now my right leg. Suffered from depression for a few years and nearly ended up an alcoholic. Eventually gave myself a swift kick up the backside and said enough is enough. There are people worse off than you. Now I've a good partner in Carol, who works with me and not against me. Her daughters say I'm more of a father to them, than their own father ever was or is. Their offspring refer to me as granddad. So I count myself lucky. And I take my hat off to you Russ. I think your a blooming marvel at 90 especially with what's happened to you.

2 pointsWe just spent about 4 hours cutting wood and clearing brush. We cleared about 250 - 350 feet of path. Almost to the back of the property now. Also cut down a BUNCH of small white pines to give breathing and sun space to the hardwoods. Also cut up a red oak which will be for firewood in a season or two. This section of the path begins back around the white poplar that's laying on the forest floor. Zoom in just above the tractor seat and you can see the pile of oak fire wood. There's a path cut from here to there... Then to the left and around the corner and another couple hundred feet down in... We're almost all the way to the back of the property now. Awesome.

2 pointsThe 1st thing is that a 1057 is a 1967 horse. The transmission is a #5058. This means that it is a "Heavy Duty" 3 speed with 1 1/8" axles. It also has the bevel gear differential...no pinions. The paint job looks great.
-
2 pointsI just ran a set of jumper cables from the Cinnamon Horse to this engine. The starter drive was stuck in place but I freed it up a little bit of penetrating oil n' a screwdriver. With the spark plugs out so it will turn quicker it builds 40 lb of oil pressure. Working on a compression test now.

2 pointsWell, got it home today, work ended up giving it to me today no charge. Cleaned the battery posts, put it on the charger and put fresh gas in it and it fired right up. Need to get a tube in the tire to make it useable and need to buy the hood to male it look nice. Couldn't be happier right now. Gonna do some mowing here in a bit.
