7 pointsMichigan is still allowed to plant a food plot on private property... and to make this year’s hunt even more fun than last, I’ve begun the food plot exercise. Now that the area is plowed, I’ll toss some chicken poop / bedding down, then disc it up. I’ll then broadcast my seed mix and drag a chain link fence section to work it in to the top of the soil. Woo hoo! Let the hunt begin!

5 pointsYes, having the equipment and being able to weld is handy, and a curse. I bring home to much stuff because "I can fix that". Here are pics of the new to me 1277 minus the parts I took off at the scrap yard. Overall in nice shape I think. I think I want some floor boards on it and maybe a little more fender.

4 pointsYou are just not drinking enough Norm. See, when you drink enough, you still feel tired...but now you know why.

-
4 pointsNorm over here we have numerous organizations and people that would love to see the end of hunting or even eating meat. One group P.E.T.A. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is one of them. Around here though P.E.T.A. Has a different meaning... People Eating Tasty Animals!

4 pointsOh boy! Would you be popular over here with a certain tv presenter and conservationist. He even trying to stop us shooting crows.

3 pointsWith something like this, most of the work is already done. Add hydraulics and or 12v power winches and you can have a very versatile crane/hoist. Get creative! https://www.harborfreight.com/12-ton-capacity-pickup-truck-crane-with-cable-winch-60731.html?cid=paid_bing||All+Products|60731&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&mkwid=WfzER5ip|pcrid|{creative}|pkw||pmt|be|pdv|c|slid||product|60731|pgrid||ptaid||&pgrid=1170980177767647&ptaid=pla-4576785874942174&pcid=368003297&msclkid=c0e190e8393612ef4ef0cdbf155fcdbf https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performance+Products/555/81047/10002/-1?msclkid=cef65f6c2ddb1b90776f023b01b21177&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Merkle - BSC - Non-Brand Searches&utm_term=4580015687600787&utm_content=Exterior

3 pointsSympathies,Just know you are not alone.I look back on what I did in a day 20/30 or 40 years ago and I have a hard time even believing I did it.I built a 36' x 24' pole barn in 30 days by my self.I even set the trusses by hand ,solo.Without the support of my wife it would not have been possible. I won't go into the very serious health issues I have suffered but the least of them, was the removal of a malignant lung tumor 2 yrs ago.I am still going to fight and I hope you do as well.Life is good!

3 pointsGlad to help if I can.I took this tractor to the big show so if anyone was interested they had it to study. The boom is 4' 10" from ground to tip.The reach is 31" from the front of frame. The top portion of the boom is 10" long and the main section it attaches to is 41"It uses a Harbor Freight winch and with 45 lb rear weights will lift 400lbs with me in the seat. The boom is mounted to the outside of the frame and is reduced 1/2" internal spacing at the tip to house the pulley. The material I used is 2 inch channel iron which I salvaged from a previous project. My goal was to keep the boom as light as possible and I can carry it with one hand. This mount will not allow the mounting of a normal hood.

3 pointsJust a few years ago I knew nothing about wheel horse tractors but ended up with a 308-8 from a friend and found this site, I was amazed how simple and well built these machines are and as stated parts availability and the extensive knowledge and friendly nature of this site are invaluable, I now own 6 wheel horse tractors in both gear and hydro drive and would not even consider any other make plus the 520 H is on my tractor wish list so it definitely gets my vote.

3 pointsThe Ford LGT tractors are a very strong and we'll built machine. There pretty dependable as well. But as stated previously finding parts can be very tough for them. I would go with the wheel horse, for the fact of parts availability, dependability, readily available knowledge of the machine here and we'll because it's a wheel horse.

3 pointsThe oil pan from the Cub won't have the bolt holes in the bottom to bolt to the frame on the PTO side, but that can be handled with a couple "J" Bolts. With the Cub Cadet counter clockwise Starter/Generator being on the PTO side of the engine you may have a problem aligning the drive belt for the transmission unless you put the clockwise S/G unit and pulley on like was used on nearly everything but the Cubs. If you replace your ignition switch with a # 103-990 switch and follow this basic wiring diagram you should be fine. Your safety switches are not included in the basic drawing, but need to be added. The generator light can be omitted and a volt meter attached to the Ignition Switch "A" terminal. Also, a 30 amp fuse should be added to the yellow wire from the voltage regulator to ignition switch "R" terminal and a 15 amp fuse prior to the light switch for safety. Lots of good information in this post. In post # 14 there is a good color coded layout with safety switches done by @BOB ELLISON for a "C" series. If you decide to do this swap please ask questions as you go along so we can help you have a successful swap.

2 pointsWell, I wasn't planning on this purchase, but the listing was relatively close, and I thought it would be a quick fun project. I was also thinking it might be a good machine to leave up on some property to cut grass with once or twice a month. It came with an extra set of ag tires, wheel weights, a brinly cultivator, brinly moldboard plow, and snow plow. The 42" SD deck had new spindles put on it that are the newer style, so I'm pretty excited about that. I was excited to get it home and see what was under all that dirt! So I got the pressure washer out, and washed the dirt off. I accidentally blew the C120 stickers off with the pressure washer, but I contacted @Vinylguy and he is going to hook me up. It looks like a nice machine! It was repainted once before, but they didn't do a bad job. The new china carb should be here on Friday, so once it arrives, i'll start messing with it. I can't wait to hear it run! I included pictures of it sitting at the previous owners house, loaded up on the trailer, and after it was pressure washed.

2 pointsFolks, if it ever appeared that I wanted sympathy, that wasn't my goal. I don't even fault uncle sam for my thing. I made that choice. I just figured that you folks would be a better sounding board than a bunch of people I'd never met. I just spend about half of my waking day looking up at this phone, so I thought I should make use of it.

2 pointsAfter the quick repair my Buddies started today early. They now at the Racetrack and i can do my work further on my FEL. Firstly i install the Tubes for a first Basic Test of Hydraulics, because i cannot Wait longer. 0FDC4BAB-4D34-4DCC-B731-E15985EC8A3A.MOV Than i doing the First Test, if all is fine and nothing leaky. yap, it is. Than i started Welding of the Tilt cylinders, the Mounts onto. While i‘m Welding, im running out of Welding wire. 😱🙄 upps, i missed to buy one Welding wire ahead in spare. Quick jump into Car and drove to Hardware Store.😎 just a normal Welding Wire was available. Hum - ok, get it. But now i need Gas to Weld, but where to get, stores allmost closed because yesterday was a Holiday. So i decide for a quick rework, that i can Weld further. As a quick solution i rework a Sodaclub CO2 Cylinder to use it as Welding Gas. While consumpt 12Litre/min im able to Weld nearly 1/4 h continousely, what is not perfect, but usable for my Daily Work. A Sodastream cylinder is much more easier to get than Welding Gas today. So i‘m able to finish my Weldings today. First try with the Cylinders on long edge, second Try with precalculated and new drilled holes. Angle is perfect for me. so a Quickmount will work as i expecting. Also the max tilt i reach is pretty nice. I will later weld an enforcement sideway‘s, to stiff it more. at least i dismount the Shovel from my Horse, to try it onto the Beast. Playing a bit with Lift Hydraulics, to bleed. Tomorrow is planed to grind the Weldings a bit, and measure the Tubes for Tilt cylinders.

2 pointsI know folks on the east coast have them in their front yard and car hoods. They lament their existence and hate the hunters.... In my area, deer are an obstinate ( but tasty) game animal that take resources from our regular agricultural animals. Deer hunting is not a money ahead proposition. It's like fishing. I am almost 40 years old and haven't shot a deer. But, I'm trying again for the third year. Basically for the fun of being back in the woods and enjoying the chances I have. Your TV presenter doesn't understand what goes on here, sadly. I've already been on this soapbox too long. Such is life, I guess. Sorry for going off on a tangent. Edited because words are hard.

2 pointsI don't have a cover on my Mule drive pulley either. Mainly because I remove the deck for cleaning after each mowing. I can't tell from the photo' of the worn pulley, but is it one of those pressed steel riveted up type? My C-125 had one of those when I got it. The bearings failed so now it is fitted with a more substantial, one piece steel one. Later type maybe?

-
2 pointsThanks for the input guys, I am leaning towards the WH as long as it runs as good as he says it does. If I put a clevis hitch on the back of this to attach a grader blade does the 520 have hydraulic lift for the back as well as the mid & front?
-
2 pointsI think I would get either two C-195's or a 195 and a 520h. The 520 or one of the 195's would be mowing detail with the 60" deck. The other 195 would be for the rest of the work. Snow blowing, tilling, flail mower, York rake. All that good stuff.

2 pointsHi, Elliott. Welcome! I have ZERO experience with Ford GT’s. All I know is, there were not nearly as many of them made. (Meaning that parts and tractors will be more plentiful) I only have experience with my 1974 Wheel Horse C160 since last September or so. From what I have learned about these, the time I have already spent with it in the yard and in the garden, and THIS SITE, I would highly recommend going with the Wheel Horse given the choice. My .02!
-
2 pointsYes... the governor adjustment and set-up are the same...
-
2 pointsHey Paul! Yes I took apart and cleaned all the connections before testing so while I am bummed that I now have to send it out and spend money on it, at least it will eventually get working right again! thanks for your help!
-
2 pointsone thing I forgot to mention is the heirloom iris project. I redid a bunch of my grandmother's iris beds. I have been on the search looking for certain color combos.
-
2 pointsI believe the 10 horse will bolt right up, as the 8 horse is on a riser plate. With a wiring swap, you should be smooth sailing on the swap.

2 pointsGot the old carb cleaned up and installed. Runs perfect now! I removed the deck and put grease in the spindles. I couldn't believe how many pumps of grease I had to put in there before it finally started coming out. Some fittings wouldn't take grease, so I will head to lowes tomorrow to get some new zerk fittings before I crunk up the deck. A huge thanks to @Vinylguy for hooking me up with some new side C120 Automatic stickers. They came in the mail a few weeks ago. Thank you Terry! I will pay it forward somehow!

2 pointsYes, I am fortunate that the yard lets me pick. Years ago they stopped pickers from shopping due to potential liability. I would still bring them scrap and after a few years of that, I was allowed to pick again. I just do not climb on piles and have to make sure I stay out of the way of the cranes and trucks. Attached are a couple of pictures of some sculptures. The first one is more recent and is made from propane bottles and air compressor tanks. The other was made from a scrounged piece of plate and some forgings that I was able to make in a shop I used to work at. It's quite heavy!

1 pointGlad to hear it!!! This info below is what I put together a few years back... but we're still in the same place. Where the majority of us camp is out in the south parking, but it's primitive camping only out there.... if you need hookups, you'll need to camp in the north side of the showgrounds. There is a fee for a camping permit... Tom @Shynon can fill you in on that one. Forecast this morning looked like a nice weekend... but heck, that's nearly a week away. It'll change!
