So in my Yahoo inbox today was an email from Photobucket.....I was never a big Photobucket user and haven’t accessed my account in probably 10 years. Established a new password and went scrolling. Mostly pics that I could care less about but this one caught my eye. I can’t tell you what year this was, maybe @nylyon can recall. Long story short Karl myself and Chris went on a road trip to Pennsylvania to pick up a “surprise tractor”. The young man on the right is Chris Sweetland, he actually started RedSquare as a high school project. That’s right! Hopefully his teacher gave him an A+ . Fun fact: Chris is member #1, he called me and asked me to join his tractor website so that he would have at least one member and that’s how I became member #2. Next to Chris is me, hands on my hips like I have attitude . Next guy is Dustin Messinger or DMESS he used to be a member here. I still talk with Dustin thru Facebook and Im picking up a parts tractor from him at the big show in a couple weeks. And last but not least, the character on the far right is our own Karl or Nylon. This was a great trip, my trailer, Karls Durango towing it, Chris sleeping for HOURS in the back seat and the C-160 surprise tractor! (Disclaimer; tractor in the pic is not the surprise tractor.)

I want to touch on this subject a little bit. Recently my father in law got a 250 gallon tank of ethanol free gas to use in his tractors on the farm and so that means I get to take a $20 bill down and fill my 5 gallon can. It was $3.83 a gallon when he filled the tank. I started using that in all my machines now. Small briggs engines, garden tractors, push mowers etc. You would not BELIEVE the difference that has made in my machines, they even run better! No more sand in the carb, just turn the key and go! Ok I'll stop now lol

Is this worth messing with or selling? someone wants to give it to me free..I'm told it runs and comes with a plow.

No problem Bob I understand completely. I like a good cold shot of milk every now and then myself.

So we were at an auction yesterday, and after losing 3 different things we wanted I thought we weren't coming home with anything. Then my brother decides to just buy me a walk behind with a briggs 8 hp, and a 414-8! It only sometimes turns over and the choke cable is stuck. It doesn't start either. Brother is taking the motor for his JD, and after I do that and pay him 50$ it's mine.

I got a new battery, oil, and ordered a fuel pump repair kit for my 701.....

You can't imagine how many times I've had to take the carburetor on and off due to s*** in the float Bowl new fuel filters Jets getting clogged or the gasket on the bottom of carburetors don't seat right this tractor never ever does wht I want it to do omg it is haunted I swear

Yes. Anything that is free, runs, and comes with a plow is worth while. Doesn't matter what it is. It could be a 25 year old copy of Cosmo that got left in the rain, and if it was free, ran and came with a plow it would be worth it.

So over the weekend I picked up a no-name eight horse power only to find out I think the motor is toast. But no avail I decided to take the foot rests off of it and put on to IRV ! It all bolts up pretty well. Now some might not like it because it’s not all original but I love it! Although I will have to do some more painting but the parts are rust free so should clean up really easily.

Rylee wanted to wet sand a little, Jada’s getting hers polished up a bit too.

If I was working on a car and "Remove transaxle" was anywhere in the instructions for getting the fuel tank out I would drive to Detroit, Tokyo, where ever, hunt down the guy that designed it, and shoot him myself.

Tractor in the pic looks like Eldon's...

@Vinylguy Terry if they were milk glasses I would take a couple. Sorry

I have this 417 with a 48" SD that I was thinking of listing on the big show sale post. But after charging the battery and mowing with it, the sound of that KT17 grew on me. So I decided to fix the left rear corner of the deck where it rusted thru. This might become my go to mower. Now, what to do with the C-120, 312A, and 312H? All comments on my welding skills will be ignored. This is functional, I use Bondo to make it purty.

I can't help you with what engine would be better for pulling but I have a 12 & 16 HP Kohler single and a 17 HP KT 2 series engine and when at idle the KT sounds like a friend of mine who passed away 2 years ago his 1967 Chevelle SS with an aluminum head 427 with a borg warner 4 speed 4.88 rear axle,it must be that solid lifter camshaft. That Chevelle now sit's in a garage with no future because his stepson has no idea how dangerous that car is in the wrong hands. I remember when that car was painted in 1978 in red lacquer, and yes it would pull the front wheels off the ground. Love those Kohlers tho

If you should decide to become a tractor guy you came to the right place & that tractor would be a good one to start with. Warning - tractors do tend to multiply.

I like it. Subtle, but very nice looking. Matches the headlight lens well. May have to steal that idea for my horse...

Looks good from my house. At least you have the functionality there. You get too awful tired of looking at the C120 just throw it in the truck and bring it right up to Maine. I'll "tractor-sit" it for ya.

Is he helping a squirrel up to the bird feeder?
  31. 3 points
Yes that is about what it takes. I have an enormous one in sort of different sections, so there is always some ready every year. Its basically just from lawn clippings, shredded leaves, planer shavings and wood dust, and general property stuff from pruning, cleaning ,etc. I turn it over as frequently as I can to speed it up.

The coil and the magnets that work with it are behind the flywheel. Use a Harmonic balance puller to remove it.

Good News! $8 for the fuel pump and $6 for the fitting into the carb and the whole thing is back running again with no leaks! I'm happily mowing the lawn again. G.

Nice tractor!! Too bad you don't have a 14hp Kohler to trade him for the complete tractor. You can put a different engine in this tractor but you will need to make sure that the engine you choose has a thrust bearing on the crank if you want to run the stock PTO clutch or you will need to switch to an electric PTO clutch.

I would like to see a picture of the engine ID plate on that k121. The Kohler K121 is a pretty rare engine, I believe it was rated at 6hp. Electric start & dual exhaust ports were some standard features on the K121. Another member on this forum came across one a while ago. Here is a link to his post. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjQr7qlyuTiAhXnqlkKHZ73Ad0QFjADegQIAxAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wheelhorseforum.com%2Ftopic%2F79038-another-rare-kohler-k121%2F&usg=AOvVaw3L_Nq-walWPC9kUhi10DF7 A common Kohler 8hp would be a K181. As far as fitment in your tractor, it probably would not take much to fit it in there. I don't think that you would be able to run a mower deck for that tractor with it though.

Been nursing my little sequoia sapling I brought from California last year. It has grown already over 4 inches this year. When it gets substantially bigger have to find a good spot for it in the place here. Perhaps 1000 years from now it will be close in size to its parents? In NJ of all places. Just to clarify it. Sapling was bought in Souvenir shop at Sequoia National Park. It was not removed from area. They only asked that it not be planted in Park.

The loader I have is a Johnson Workhorse and works very well. The loader will come with a continuous sub-frame that runs from front to rear and transfers the loader weight and force to the axles so it won't damage the frame of the . The pump is driven from the PTO of the engine. You will need to add weight to the rear end to have good traction, loaded tires help a lot.
