13 pointsSome of you know I did a little work to the Raider recently. I replaced the fuel lines and removed , stripped , fixed and painted the battery tray and removed the deck . With the very rainy spring we have had here , mowing opportunities have been few and far between . Yesterday was perfect . Got home from work a little early , fired up the zero-turn , went in the garage to close the doors and when I came out the Z/T was chugging black smoke , sputtering and running terrible . I pulled the carb and cleaned the sucker 3 times and each time I reinstalled it it would run fine , then start acting up as soon as the float bowl filled . By then it was late and time to shower , eat & turn in for the night . Today I got home from work just before the rain , managed to get the deck re-mounted on the Wheel Horse and after a little adjustment she roared to life . I cant describe the feeling I get when I do mow with this machine ( been about 4 years now since I did ). A big smile always accompanies the steady cluck , cluck , cluck of this "big single" torque monster called Kohler . Not to mention all the glances from the neighbors who seldom ( if ever ) do get a chance to see this machine . So , a sincere thanks and a hearty toast ( Arizona Sweet Tea no ice for me ) , to those responsible for creating this wonderful , seemingly timeless machine called Wheel Horse ! Thank you !!!!! -Gene

10 pointsThis is on a local auction site, I hope to be able to watch the sale. If anything, the pictures sure do give a whole lotta inspiration! I was first attracted to my first 502 Because it reminded me of my Uncle’s old 9N that he had restored years ago.... I wouldn’t expect a newer model to be base for such a replica.

10 pointsThought I would share, what a C195 also can be used for, and handle. That thing keeps amazing me.............. So, I have about 2 akers of lawn that I spray for weeds, and about half an aker of gravel road I also spray to keep grass and weeds out of. Lots of fruit trees and bushes that also gets a spray against critters. It was a bit much with the back pack sprayer, so I had my eyes on this thing for a while. It sprays 140" in one swat, and has foldable booms. It hold 40 gallon, just what I need to do the lawn in one go. It has a very good wand, and a fair length hose for it too. Full it ways in at about 400 Lbs, and the 3 pt just picks it up with no sweat at all. Tractor runs nicely with it, although a little light on the front legs. If you have the use for something like this, I can only recommend this setup. Heres the tractor porn

9 pointsBeen a busy beaver on and off the court lately. Picked up the Panzer locally from one of the forum members, and did a lil 2.5 hour road trip to get the Speedex. Both run pretty good, could use a little tweaking, but nothing major. I've wanted both these model tractors for a long time, almost got a Panzer a few years back, but I didn't want to cough up the dough at the time. Anyway, just sharing.

Start on front rims Lift handle Foot pedal Tried quite a few times to have the rod move in the lift handle but just couldn't get it to look right or work at that small of a scale. One dropped on the floor while working on it and as I rolled the chair back to look for it, you guessed it, heard the crunch and had to start over.

6 pointsWe had our first pull this past Sunday. We tinkered all winter and had to wait until Sunday to find out how they will perform. Each tractor ran great. Nothing broke. That’s always a plus. I need to get a set of tires for the Raider 14. My son wants tri ribs. The rim is a 6” any suggestions on size would be appreciated. The Raider 12 always has to crank forever for it to start. Im thinking to switch that one from magnito to a coil. Hopefully this solves the starting problem. The WorkHorse just needs more power. It starts and runs amazing but that Briggs just doesn’t seem to have the same power the Kohlers have. Overall very pleased with the the outcome of the first pull. Great time with lots of great people.

5 pointsSo last Sat. afternoon I'm out messing around in the shop, I was feeling a little haggard so I put in a couple Merle CD's. About half way through the first CD, neighbor fires of his year and a half old craftsman rider, it starts hunting bad at idol but smooths out some a full throttle, of he goes, I turn up the volume a little. About 10 minutes later neighbor across the street fires up his 4 year old toro Z turn same thing, off he goes, a little more volume. Lady down the road fires off here 5 year old craftsman Z turn, about 5 minutes in to the cut, yep you guessed it, volume now at 7. I pulled out two of my 32+ year old WH, my 26 year old JD, to charge the batteries, and both my old generators to get ready for hurricane season. I waited till they were done cutting their yard, then fired them all up, the only thing hunting was me for another beer . Over the years I've told them to stop using ethanol gas or at least use it within 2 months, do they listen, . All I can say is thank goodness, for non ethanol gas, Anheuser Bush, and of course Merle Haggard . Chris, living the retired life in Northwest Florida.

5 pointsI use this Why I use this, and not a new toy thing? 1. I love it. It's my kind of machine. I smile every time I'm on it. 2. it does pretty much all the work around here, and it newer complains. Mows, tills, discs, sprays, plovs, hauls, and more. 3. It cuts grass so very nicely and fast. 4. I have had a 54" zero turn, and I hated that thing. It werent any quicker in real life, and it newer put a smile on my face. 5. Did I mention that I just love it 6. As far as I know, I have the only one(s) of these running, on this side of the pond. That doesn't hurt much either

5 pointsbecareful what kind of Teflon tape you use. oil will eat normal Teflon. There are some kinds that will work. When I worked for the oil company on oil burners I was told always use pipe dope becuase of this. I have also seen this first hand since then. good luck eric j

4 pointsI am starting the process of putting an HY-3 unit on my 854 that I purchased last year. I had a few questions so thought I would put this up. Here is the tractor it is being mounted to. I picked the 854 and pump up from D.J. Harrison @hcminis after he spotted it in Portland last year. In preperation for installing the pump unit I decided to lay my parts out and inventory them to ensure I had all of the pieces necessary to install the unit. I assumed I would be missing some miscellanous hardware and I would rather purchase it before hand then be searching for it on a weekend. Also in preparation for the install I purchased a rebuild kit from Lowell @wheelhorseman at WheelhorsePartsandmore.com. The handle in the pump is stuck indicating a broken return spring. Upon taking inventory of the box of parts I have some questions. It appears this is an assemblage of an HY-2 and HY-3 kit. It has the partially metal hoses of an HY-3. It has the axle bracket of an HY-2 that uses a U bolt and no extra plate. There is no switch relocation bracket, although this was possibly not removed from the donor tractor. The vastly different patina between parts also lends to this scenario. Is this the correct rock shaft? It does not have a pin for the cylinder like I have seen in the manuals for the HY-3.

4 pointsSo, I've been designing a setup for seat suspension for the 317 and 140. It's an attempt to be as simple as possible, while also being as economical as possible. My design uses 4 longer arms which allow the seat to not move back as much. Spring stiffness will be probably 50 lbs or something.

3 pointsWhere are the rocks??? After 18 years i have a small garden area...very small that might look like that. When i use my tiller on raw land here it is absolutely painful as it hops up and down banging off the rocks.

3 pointsSure looks like you have the correct rock shaft. In this Pic you have it flipped around. The clevis should face the notch on the shaft. The pin can be just a bolt with the threads cut off and a hole for a retainer pin.

3 points@PeacemakerJack ya they're quite desirable down Charlotte way here. Have had a few people asking to find these. I like it cause its only 2 years made, hydraulic lift (i dont do lift handles anymore), 16 hp, kohler, old style hood and dash, it was complete, whats not to like. The tricks gonna be doing all this work on the cheap. 😀 it needs a lot. So far ive had parts in stock. Got the intake valve, had the starter solenoid it needed. And came with a solid 42 deck.

3 pointsYes although the tires look cool I'll be the first to admit they are not the choice for traction. This was pretty slick clay dirt tho but I did notice a guy laying down lime. I don't get why they work good on skid steers and such. Fluid and weights would definitely help. Some more other brands & customs... The show's host has an collection of vintage stuff that just does not quit! All neatly displayed. Dan getting a little seat time on the 1055 when loading.

So we show up with these nice shiney just built tractors ... and promptly proceed to stick them in the dirt! Guys are thinkin ..yah trailer queens... bunch of bozos sticken them in dirt..NOT! I got rings that need seating!

2 pointsOver the next several months and into the winter I will be redoing my 520 that I bought back in April. My dad was a Wheel Horse dealer and this is exactly what I would have bought new from him at the time (1991) if a 20 yr old kid would have been able to afford it. My plan is to use the 42" recycler deck off of my C120 on the 520 this summer to determine what, if any mechanical issues it may have before tearing it down. I paid $800 for it in the condition seen in the pictures and everything on the tractor works, every light, every switch, everything. I've already torn down the 48" deck it came, had it blasted, and sent for powdercoat, and will spend the next few evenings updating this post with pictures of the parts I've redone so far and the replacement goodies that I'm cleaning out from dad's inventory! This will be mostly a cosmetic redo with no corners cut. The engine seems to run like a champ, doesn't smoke or use oil, and sounds great, so I don't think a rebuild will be needed. Stay tuned

2 pointsYeah I had rocks all over the place too. borrowed a big loader from a friend and dug 2 feet of the whole graden lot, and replaced with fresh top soil from a close by area that was digging some large put and take ponds.

2 pointsReally sorry to hear this as worry is not conducive to a long life. I can understand your wife's situation and the burden that comes with it. That in itself needs to be addressed. You need to take care of yourself and be very attuned to how your doing. Don't worry about it just be ready to admit you need a break and then take one. Your going to feel guilty about it but things will go fine and when you return you'll feel better. That is really important. Also you need to get good sleep. Handling stress, pain, and daily trials is much easier to do if your rested. This is well documented. Your diet should be taken into consideration also. This is easier said than done but try not to worry. There are things you can change and things you can't and no amount of worry will change that. I was the worst worry wart at work to the point my stomach was all messed up. Finally one day it dawned on me that I'm only one person and can only take care of so many things. That made a huge difference in my life and health. Hopefully you can come to grips with your situation and you start feeling better. Best of luck to you.

2 pointsWe showed up at AJ's enjoying the nice sunny 60+ weather, perfect day for a show. By the time we were done plowing and playin with the stone boat a thunder storm rolls in. This kinda stopped me from strolling around to get more pic's. I was quite happy sitting under a canopy shooting the breeze with @stevasaurus. Fact is the only pic's that I came home with are the ones that Cindy took with my camera. So I'll share some of those with you. Radpferd turning a little dirt. After burying the plow as deep as i could get it, I couldn't seem to make the engine work. Couldn't even get any smoke out of the pipe. No added weight, 2nd gear at about 1/2 throttle & I was running other guys down. This Horse is kind of a Clydesdale. Jim getting the rings seated on his 1055. With out added weight his tractor had no problem pulling a plow. Some other brands struggled a bit to do the job. Next we had a chance to play with a stone boat. A Cub Cadet with duels on was up before Radpferd, They had to drop down to one added weight in order for him to move it. I hooked up with the single weight on the sled. Mover about a foot & said too easy guys. So they threw another one on. Another foot or so & I said a little more please. Keep 'em coming boy's!! At this point the belt started to chirp a bit so I decided to call it good. Still no smoke out of the stack. It was like we were just cruising in a parade. Towards the end of the track I stopped to up shift but lost traction. Jim hooked hooked up. He had some traction trouble getting going. After he was rolling I added my weight to the equation. His 1055 purred right along with no issues. All in all it was a good show even if the rain chased some people off. It was good to talk with people that I hadn't seen since last year.
