7 pointsHi folks, picked this up this evening. Never done a tare down restoration, so this looked like a good one to do it on. Engine fired on some starting fluid when I got it home, so that's a positive sign. Prolly was a forum member I got it from, it's a small world after all. Told the fiancee it would be hers, dont know why, but that's what I told her anyway...anywho just sharing.

7 pointsAlthough I did not build Radpferd with plowing in mind, I had an opportunity to hitch him up to a 10" Brinly and do a little work with him. Given the fact that he is a short frame with no added weight I was a little skeptical. At the start I did not sink the plow in all of the way. After I noticed that he was not struggling and the front end was not getting light, I decided to sink the plow and try to give him a work out. With the plow buried deep enough to almost high center the poor guy following me, Radpferd trudged along in 2nd gear at 1/2 throttle with very little effort. The diesel engine in him is rated at 10hp at 3600RPMs, but the max torque of 18ft lbs comes in at the 2800RPM range. The 26x12x12 tires never slipped, although they did not really fit in the furrow very well. The front end stayed firmly planted to the ground, more weight up front would not hurt anything though. The Ohio Rubber seat is very comfy and set up for the long haul. All in all this would be a simple tractor to set up as a "plow mule". Looking forward to an opportunity to hitch him up to a 12" Brinly, @PeacemakerJack. Two improvements that I would make If I were to plow with this tractor more often. 1 - More weight 2 - Hydraulic Lift.

6 pointsFamily site here 608... I suppose I could go put the adult version in the funnies section. .... Did manage to stick in in the dirt and must admit it looks just fine in working clothes. Pulled a eight inch plow no problem but a twelve in hard pack gonna need weights and fluid. I don't think I'll spring for the expense since I have dedicated plow rigs. When we get any kind of decent weather I'm gonna drop a ten on it and turn some dirt but I suspect it will do do OK in my sandy loam soil. Just want to work the motor somemore to get to the break in oil change. I am real happy about the way this thing runs. Tranny seems a little noisy tho you notice that Dan? When I built the motor it did not have an ACR cam so the starter struggles abit if caught on compression stroke. Once it rolls pops on the first Rev with little choke. It has a cam that I have never seen with a spark retard on the side opposite where the ACR should be.

5 pointsFixed the exhaust on the Commando 6 so it won’t hit the hood, tightened up the super loose backing plate for the engine shroud and borrowed Frank’s battery for a bit. This baby starts and purrs! Oh, I also put a functional choke cable and new fuel line on to fix the small amount of seepage under the tank. Next order of business is fitting an air cleaner!

5 pointsI think I remember roughly where this is heading. I'm not going to cut in line. I'll just let you folks graft your solution together from the answers seeded by others.

5 pointsFinished up mine a while back. Weather permitting I hope to take it to Mentone the weekend after Memorial Day. It will be it's first show.
-
5 pointsI may be splitting hairs here, but Memorial Day is the day we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Veteran's Day is when we honor all who have served, or are serving. There is a big difference. On Memorial Day I proudly fly my stars and stripes and remember members of my family who died in service.

4 pointsLast fall Big Ugly started leaking at both axle seals. When I went to drain the oil out the drain plug hex stripped. This tractor never saw any cover before I got it and the plug probably was never taken out before. The thought of getting under the rear of the tractor and drilling out the plug was not appealing.I have dodged hot steel shavings all my adult life. The thought of pulling the trans out was not fun either. So this made life easier.Since the engine was off already the 520 wasn't that heavy.

4 pointsI got tired of using the trowel, not only because I didn’t need a hole that big, but some places I didn’t want to disturb surrounding plants. This allows me to disturb a much smaller area, and quicker. Im still toying around with it, and would be happy to share and changes I make that work, but all I did was dremel a groove in it. I tried to taper the end for a bit smoother initial push, but I’m thinking of increasing the taper a bit. Doing it this way is better than digging out or even just taking the trowel, folding back the dirt a bit, and sticking the cutting in the slit (which is what I tried before this). Since I back fill the hole with surrounding loose dirt, it lets the stem breath a bit, and the new roots don’t have to push through densely pack soil like if it were planted with a trowel or folded in.

4 pointsTalking of needing licences for shooting anything, we need a licence to shoot crows would you believe. I've been threatening to shoot a couple that have been making pests of them selves. Mentioned it the a neighbouring farmer. He said you only need a licence if you get caught.

4 pointsIf it a coon you and you catch it live you better make sure it ends up where he can't come back. I was trying to catch feral cats in a live catch with a can of cat food as bit. They were killing my birds. Two mornings in a row I caught a coon and just released it. After that I'd find the trap tripped, no coon and an empty can of cat food outside the trap. He figured out how to get the food without getting caught. I was fed up so one evening I laced the cat food with 6 out of date prescription muscle relaxers. The next morning the trap was tripped, no coon and a half eaten can of food. Never saw him again...……….

4 pointsI am a Vietnam veteran and I fly my flag on every Holiday. I do this for the guys we lost in our Squadron. Like others have said Memorial Day is for those of us make it back home. But that does not stop me for thanking all that severed. Also remember all the people back home that supported us while we were there. It was not an easy home coming for the Vietnam veterans when we came home. But it is a lot easier now 50 years later. I think all the men and women that served in all branches of service. Some gave some some gave all. Be sure and hang the flag for all and the United States. God bless all.

4 pointsI too am very thankful to those who served. Currently I make sure and fly our great flag and may participate in a church service. In my former life as an adult Scout volunteer, out troop provided (and still provides) flag ceremonies for several organizations in town, ranging from churches to parades to civic clubs. As a Cub Scout Leader one year we had the young boys draw/color cards, with a short note to someone they knew that was a veteran (typically a family member). We also made cards to be sent to Nursing Homes. We received many Thank You notes from veterans who appreciated what we were teaching those young boys. I continued to do this with the boys for several years. But it is really such a small sign of appreciation for those that gave ...There ALL! If I may share, I have a brother-in-law that severed in Vietnam. He never talked about it, and usually answered questions with a general reply and changed the subject. He's now in his mid-70's and has started sharing a little....I learned he was on the ground through much of the siege at Hamburger Hill. One of the bloodies battles for both sides. During those days, he lost so many that he served with. My step-father joined the Merchant Marines at age 16 during WWII, Then he served on a 1/2 track tank patrol in Korea. He is a very modest man, and never speaks of Korea, except to comment that it was a frozen hell. At 92, he will talk about the Merchant Marines and the Liberty Ships one on one. He made over 30 Atlantic or Pacific crossings. Many of the Liberty ships crews were made up of many young boys and old men and sailors too old or who's health would not allow them to serve in the military. This has prompted me to do some reading, and I've learned the Merchant Marines lost more ships than all the military branches combined. He said the U-boat submarines knew from there spies which ships carried fuel and ammo, and those ships were always the first to be sunk. Can you imagine parent's and the media's reaction today of allowing 16 year olds doing this. They are the Greatest Generation. Thanks for allow me to ramble, lest we ever forget!

4 points1975 C-120 Automatic with a 42"SD. I could use a 520-H. For some reason I just enjoy cutting grass with it. Maybe because it's smaller than the 520-H. I mow about a acre at the farm. I use a 520-H at home with a 42" RD.

3 pointsBeen a busy beaver on and off the court lately. Picked up the Panzer locally from one of the forum members, and did a lil 2.5 hour road trip to get the Speedex. Both run pretty good, could use a little tweaking, but nothing major. I've wanted both these model tractors for a long time, almost got a Panzer a few years back, but I didn't want to cough up the dough at the time. Anyway, just sharing.

3 pointsPart 3, "the bomb" well I'm back again after another 8 mo. Hiatus. Sold out all my wh and green stuff over the winter. Had nothing to play with so picked up this c 161 automatic for not much. Was outside for 10 years probably. Hood pitted so bad would need bondo to fix it. Flywheel cover rotted out at bottom, every nut and bolt stuck, you know, FUN! No compression so pulled head and exhaust valve was stuck and intake valve was bent! No bolt marks on head like I've seen a lot of from air cleaner assembly bolts. Any ideas on how it got bent would be appreciated. Valve guide and head fine. Hello to all again, Terry

3 pointsClose enough! The defoliated stem (I use shears for that @formariz, this tears and rips instead of cuts, but is good for pushing against the inside curve of rose thorns to pop them off) is placed in the groove after rooting compound has been applied. It is then stuck into the soil, wiggled a bit, and pulled out leaving the cutting. Our soil being more clay than soil, this involves less difficult trowel work. I usually wet the ground before inserting it to make it a bit easier. Im still toying with it, but so far it’s worked well!

3 pointsThe trans should be sealed up with new O-rings from @pfrederi and I found a brass drain plug that fits flush with the case. I had it tipped up almost vertical then brought it back down for additional draining. Once that trans plate on the frame is welded up, I’ll be ready to start some assembly again!

-
3 pointsSo before you can follow thru on a plan (poison, trap or weapon) you need to know what's doing the damage. Time for a motion activated trail camera or something along those lines. Once you review the footage you'll know exactly who the culprit is.

3 pointsI have to correct you, and even me we went both wrong..... She‘s called me, if i have a bit time at Weekend and i think i know the next question, but she surprizes me just by ask to show her some things. Firstly she want to fix some light corrosion herself, we had seen at our check and after she likes to repainted the repair job. She doesn‘t have any Fear for tools. Also she wanted a full instruction - „more as only simple oilcheck“ - because she like to be able to repair her Car self. Urgent for her is, the Car must be technical in good condition, optics are not so important but if it is necessary for stability she wanna do it, she want to learn everything about her new Car. What is for what and how to fix if it‘s defect. Oh, Boy, i can say i never was so surprized by her, as while this Call, im honestly proud for such a Daughter. Normally i have to know it, because she was the first Daughter, who‘s repaired her Bicicle herself. Fix flats and greasing the chain, serviced the Brakes, she did everything self. She never ask „Daddy, can you repair“, she allway’s ask „Daddy, can you show me how to repair. I wanna do it myself.

3 pointsWe fly a flag every day... if it’s football season we hang my late MILs Colts flag, the rest of the year my Marine flag flies. Memorial day as a kid was never a huge affair... we would grill out but we didn’t have a mass gathering. It was one of only three days my dad would fly the Marine Corps flag we had. In years past, when I was active with the VFW, I would do the Buddy Poppy drives, my last one I was the Poppy Chairman for our post. Now we try to make it a quiet, family day. We do that because I’m sure if you could ask most of the men and women that are planted all across the globe after defending this nation, that would be what they would want: time with their loved ones. To piggy back off of @rmaynard, here is my response when thanked for my service this upcoming weekend: Its not about me, today I’m just a humble citizen like you thankful that men and women cared enough about something to lay their lives down for it. We have our day in November, let the fallen have their day today. Ive said it so many times I have it down pat. While I do appreciate the genuine thankfulness for my time in service, I wish more of a distinction between the two was taught more widely. *^ Thats not to discount anyone’s thankfulness, simply to help educate

3 pointsAlright, his one should last a while, seeing as I made it. Diameter is 1/2in, length is 9 1/18in. This is something I made to aid in another interest of mine. @ebinmaine, told ya I was gunna have to invent something 😂😂

3 pointsA friend of mine has a Kohler powered push mower that wouldn't start. I sprayed carb cleaner in the carburetor and it fired then died. I pulled the carburetor apart and found junk in the bowl. The mower isn't very old and I was surprised to find it that bad. I cleaned it up including vents and holes and blew air through it with my compressor. I reassembled it and it started on one slow pull.

3 pointsIt can vary from my 520 with the 48,” to my other with the 60,” to my 315 with the 48.” It all depends on which one i feel the desire to use, one of the perks of having many tractors.
-
3 pointsThat thing is really sweet. I almost picked up a Mowwett Mustang recently with a factory grass catcher bag, just for the simple fact of how unique and odd it is. And yes, I would use it to mow my yard. However, I came across my Commando 8, and I thought it would be a much more useful machine, and was a lower asking price. Couldnt go wrong in my opinion.

3 pointsHere is the same 241 off the other 1055, note the ACR clearly visible. Second pic has the cam I used with with the funky points cam, same type of fly weights and hair springs but on the opposite side of the cam This whole topic might be better off in engines section. I can't give the spec no. off the motor I built ... it's a who knows where that engine plate went. If any one can skool me on this be appreciated.

3 pointsYeah, it was listed on my local face book for sale ad, not too far away, couldn't pass on it..... Anyone have any suggestions for an affordable portable sandblaster? I think I told the fiancee it would be hers cause she has a better air compressor!!! Now that I recall
