We just had our Local Benefit for Scottie yesterday! Lowell and our family wanted to share with you some pictures and a video of the Medford Concert Choir singing at his benefit. Been without a tiller for over a year now and search nearly everyday for a replacement.I drove nearly 5 hours north in New York for work and search the local CL.A nos tiller circa 2000 shows up in Vermont outside of the capitol.A quick car ferry ride across lake Champlain and up through the green mountains to an ol fellas cabin and poof-No lie-sitting in his barn is a never sent the dirt since purchased by him in 2000.I couldn't get my money out fast enough.They are out there!!!!Wheel Horse Sasquatch lol

Most of the newer models do/did this mine included...remove battery and using visegrip pliers keep applying increased pressure on the rivet/fulcrum point of the throttle lever as the rivet looses it's grip over time , has worked for me for several years now, if that doesn't work you'll have to remove throttle and drill out said rivet and replace with a bolt with a couple flat washers and a lock nut. Or new throttle assembly.

So excited to get everything working. I plowed up a new spot with the wheel horse couple weeks ago. We had a bunch of rain. I tilled it up yesterday and planted. I love this tractor!!!! Now I can garden like my dad did. We’ll se what grows in this South Carolina red clay. Not at all like the soil back home in Michigan. May take a few years to get some good soil worked in. Anybody know where I can get some winter radish seed to plant this fall and plow under. My dad said that’s what they’ve been doing after sugar beats are harvested to replenish the nutrients

Just as the title says, I rescued another one. A big one. My Crown Victoria didn't really notice the weight, but my trailer sure did. She 520xi has 600-ish hours on it but is DIRTY! This is my first foray into the XI series which will be a learning process for me but I am up to the task!

Onan is a quality engine. They were mostly used in generators where grass clippings were not an issue. 953 nut stole my thunder while I was typing. Maintenance done properly and they will run thousands of hours. Yes, a few parts can fail, but that is true with anything.

Drove the Kohler carb’ed Commando 6 around and checked on my new tree line.

As per the "Mid Engine Car" build, "We are going to weld this one for strength, but cover it with duct tape for appearences.

From this to this, it's really satisfying to bring one of these back from years of use. How little it cost to have a really nice tractor.

Hey guys, Wow how time flies, sorry about the time lapse in posting these pics. I'm doing a living kidney donation for my little sister and the testing is insane. So far so good, go in tomorrow for the last 8 hour day of tests. If all goes well should be able to give her what she needs very soon. Back to my Commando 8, got it put together and running. Don't mind the dirt but even though we have had biblical rain and mud I had to take it for a ride down my dirt road...lol. Couple of small touches left to do but it's at 99% finished. For my first complete rebuild I'm very happy with it. Learned a couple of things that will help with the next tractor, my 854. Well what do you all think?

The guy bought a new 260 series 10 grand with the deck and snowblower.He traded his old kubota rider for the tiller back then.He listed it for 4 and we settled on 350.I dont know how much they were in 2000 but it's never seen dirt so it hasn't lost value to me.I think the kit was 9 to11 hundred back then?

Here's my 2 520s, the shiny one I bought new in 1998 (700+ hours) no valve seat issues as of yet and for a good solid 17 years it was a 4 seasons machine the faded one I bought used with 236 hours (only a mower) on it 3 years ago and it wasn't kept inside or taken very good care of even by the dealer...but no engine or trans issues yet either.

Jada took a parade lap with dear old Daddy! That Commando 6 sure does steer easy! Probably the best 80 bucks spent in quite a while!

YES, you are. If it is in good condition and you maintain it you should be fine. The cooling fins on the rear cylinder tend to get clogged up leading to overheating, but periodic cleaning and good maintenance will keep it going.

yes i have one on my daughter suped up workhorse 800. it has a 12hp tech on it with a kohler carb. i got tired of messing with the carb every season so i put the kohler on it when i was younger and she has worked every since i was 18 and i am now 38. the old motor is wore out pretty bad but still ticking! Literally!! LOL

One thing you may want to consider is to get your soil tested by the local extension agent.My wife does this every other year and the one thing they report is the need for the addition of sulfer.I never would have guessed.We have chickens and their byproduct gets tilled in.

Whether for roofs or siding, I would say give me my 2 foot bar.

In the 1959’s Terpstras was a Farm and Feed store. When WheelHorse signed them up as a dealer it transformed the place significantly! Feed and chicks sold along side Wheel Horses on display in the 1969’s but by the 70’s. It was farm and feed no more. Now a major Toro, Honda, Echo, Stihl, etc dealer and multimillion dollar business!

This is my seat on my 1057 don’t pay attention to the blue circles just a couple off areas I need to get fixed . @WHX22 Jim might be able to help us out here as there was slight differences between models if I remember correctly . Man an I sure was eyeballing your tractor on CL for it seemed like a year before you bought it . The originality is was drew me in but he sure wanted a good $$$ for it. He would never return my calls. Sure glad someone got it who appreciates it. Heck I liked it so much I saved a picture of it . There was a guy in St Charles who had some parts listed on CL . He had some original Wheel Horse front wheels and tires. Good luck

These guys know what they’re talking about. It’s good to listen... otherwise it’ll be torn down again soon. Shoved and assume and I think are not accuracy points in any engine rebuild. We’ve most all been there, trying to do a build on the cheap at some point or another. Sometimes taking the time to measure key points are worth every penny spent on quality tools or having a machine shop check it for you.

Have you checked your belt tension? If the engine does not seem to be turning over fast enough, the belt may be slipping.

I just wrapped up my C101 project. Cleaned up, block bored .01, crank ground, new piston, rings, valves. Fixed the brake pad. New spring for clutch. New seat. Flushed trans new gear oil new boot replaced leaking axle seal New Deestone tires on back and Hi-Runs front. Straightened out wiring for lights. Picked up a decent 42 deck and new belts ready. Ready to go back to work again!!

Last year at the big show I picked up a set of harrows, pull behind cultivators and a potato digger. I finally was able to use my harrows the other day with my 753. I was pleasantly surprised. They seemed to work good. I had a set that was not wheel horse that I tried before and they didnt work at all. Now I just need to find time to move my boat and plow the rest of my garden and harrow it so we can plant. I'm curious what do you use for weight on these? I had a weight made out of old rail road track kinda balanced in the middle. It worked but slipped off when I lifted it.

I have 520 as well with over 2100+ hours on the original Onan. Just basic maintenance and they will last forever.

Is this a freshly painted tractor? If so please remove the paint at the grounding point on the engine block. If the ground wire is not attached to the block you should move it there.

I know what I'd use that find for there WH...clean it up, stick it in the front yard and hang a Wheel Horse head sign from the round part.

The combined knowledge of all our members can still leave a few gaps. With nearly six decades of previous owners, having a tractor that is totally original is soooooo unlikely that it is laughable. What is important is that we enjoy our little red tractors and share our hobby with others.

My 867 and 1076 are both working with 230 CCA batteries.

So apparently she did have a stroke. That along with the ankle fracture means that in a couple days she will he moving to an inpatient rehab facility, but it sounds like it should only be a couple weeks at the most. Sorry for the delay in updating you guys.... I’ve been trying to make everything as hassle free for sara as I can, which means that we haven’t seen much of each other, so I inadvertently fell out of the loop. The good news is that she’s doing much better, they’ve gotten the afib under control, and today she gets her boot so she can actually get up and out of bed. Unless something major changes, we should be in the home stretch. Thanks again everyone, your support is greatly appreciated.
