6 pointsSaw a gt14 for a really good price on Craigslist yesterday went and looked at it last evening, ended up buying it . It’s a 68 or 69 gt14 but I’m not exactly sure which. It’s in decent condition and seems to be complete. It has a really nice complete three point hitch and a really nice three point tiller. I didn’t think the seat and muffler were original but I looked at a manual and it turns out they are. I’m gonna try to get it running for the big show but if I don’t I will still take it. The best part is I bought it from a super nice guy that knows a lot about wheel horses. Some of you might know him, his name is Less, sorry didn’t catch his last name. He has been going to the wheel horse show since the beginning and personally knew Cecil and Betty Pond. He used to have 74 tractors but he narrowed it down to his favorite three. Overall it was a really good day. I got to meet a really nice guy, get another tractor and hear some good stories. Here are a few pictures of the gt14 and tiller. 6 pointsAdded one from a new series to the fleet today. Fires on carb cleaner but won't stay running. Gas smells old. Took the seller and me and a come-along to get her up onto my Tacoma. So heavy I had to drag it up onto my loading ramp as the Tacoma was squatting. Came with a 48" deck in poor shape and a snow blower that has some ugly welding repairs. Hood and belt guard are here but not mounted. Hood needs a hinge. The seat is in perfect shape except for the Fix Or Repair Daily logo. Another project not sure what she will be used for yet.....

6 pointsWell these have really really been a lot of startup work. Trying to figure out how to make the designs in the back. I havent gotten around to start on the seat yet . Making the finish patterns so I can cut the pieces the same size. I did try to make these as close to the original as I could. Most will not even realize there knockoffs. I finally found the right piping 1/8" @953 nut wanted it on the others but I just found someone with it. (Very hard to sew this 1/8) Well I still have some tweaking to do on the cutting but it's coming along pretty good. I made this one and it's for sale for $1000.00 with all the hours, materal and work in it. WHAT NO TAKERS ???? Well I guess I'll put it on my c160. I've only had 3 days warm enough to work in my garage plus I have a cold making it very hard now to breathe in the cold air. Well anyways here's what I got so far.

5 pointsIf he still has them you should jump on those tires if you want to keep it stock. On my restomod I went with new turfs and they are very pricy. Congrats on your new tractor. these are my absolute favorites but they can try your patience:-) i cant wait to get settled with my relocation and finish this one.

4 pointsSo I like to mess around with small engines like old Briggs washing ma hine engines and such. Today I started on a continental. I've never messed with one of these so it should be interesting. Not really sure how the throttle works at this point. There is a rod coming down behind the flywheel that I'm not really sure what it does, but it adjusts something. You can see it in the one pic coming down to the carb elbow. Has a bendix stromberg carb so not really sure where I would find parts if I need them. Anyway it should be fun so more to come!

4 pointsJump right back in you know you need at least one of these GT 14 , C-195 or a 520 H. I'm still working on the 520 H, but I mowed the front lawn with it yesterday. Then I got out the C-120/180 put out 400 lbs. of lime in the front yard and mowed back yard and around the grass field. I got trough blew the dust and grass of the C-120/180 and put it up. Went to get the 520 H and it wouldn't start ( may have flooded it ) but it turned over and that's progress on a 520 H. Blew it off and pushed it into the garage. The 520 H is as fast as a Gezalle, but the C-120/180 is as sure footed as a Mountain Goat. They are two different animals.

4 pointsYou can't just stuff fiberglass into the muffler. That would offer too much resistance causing extreme overheating. Glasspack mufflers have a perforated pipe that passes straight through. Between the pipe and the shell of the muffler is fiberglass which absorbs certain frequencies of sound giving the exhaust a different sound.

4 pointsModel 1-7441 is a 1969 model tractor. Click on the pictures The tiller 7-1232 was sold 1970-1973 and yours is a 1970 model but can not make out the first digit of the serial number. Looks like it has a scratch through it. See x39958. The 1971 model would have been stamped 7-1232-6, 1972 stamped 7-1232-7, and 1973 stamped 7-1232-8. Garry

3 pointsGentlemen she now purrs like a kitten. I ran a can of AMSOIL Power Foam through it and more importantly adjusted the points gap. They were set at .023. I adjusted them to a loose .019. Runs like a new engine.

3 pointsAm working on the 1056 to make it my working Horse for now. The trusted Raider10 lunched the edge of a piston because of a scratch in the bore that made all the piston rings line up. I bought the 1056 for $107.00 net. It has a good motor that was gonna go on the Raider, but I decided to just go with what it was. i had to swap a few parts from the Raider, as the PO just drilled out the tie rods and loosely bolted them together . I call stuff like that kludge fixes.i worked on mounting the mower and had to unfreeze the side tension pivot as it was frozen with rust. I put it in the vice and used Deep Creep and a mallet and once it moved a bit more Deep Creep and ten minutes of wiggle back and forth. Something to check when you guys buy an old tractor. So we will run the short tractor for now and get a c141 with a 12 HP Kohler swap finished up as the 14 HP has an egged engine block at least 20 thousanths out. You can actually see the rings moving at the edges when viewed with the head removed. The engine actually runs, but very smokey. i got [more like rustled] that tractor with deck and front blade for $200 and it is otherwise a great outfit. I figure with two solid tractors at the beginning and a third if I have time to not be behind the curve on the 3 yards I have to mow i might try a rebuild on an engine later this year, but a guy can get lazy when he finds replacement used parts tractors for a good price. If I do rebuild, my I pretty much gave up on the 14 HP repower predator mod on the 520. Preds do not like the side pressure of a manual clutch, so I think that tractor will just wear a snow blade and never be a lawn mower. I keep saying that I am gonna fix what i haveand buy no more, but the WHA addiction seems to continue

3 pointsI work for one of the top aftermarket exhaust makers, just like Bob @rmaynard said the fiberglass is loosely blown in between the shell and the louvers or perf tubes "Dynomax" line, the other thing is a solid sheet of fiberglass (much like a diaper) that is wrapped around the internal louver tube assembly then the stuffed into the preformed shells (those would be our "Thrush" line.

3 pointsI looked around and the MC guys use Stainless steel pads, They say like the Brillo pads used to scrub pots etc. I was hoping to get something in the outer perimeter of the muffler head to calm it down. going to look under the sink today!

3 pointsAt least they are staying in the USA and not moving to Mexico or China. I know many of the replacement parts that I have gotten for my Kohler's have come from Mexico or China, I'd hate to see the whole shebang move there.

2 pointsGood afternoon all!! Windy and rainy here in Illinois but a small patch of sun managed to find me today. I have here a CASE 448 with 18 HP Onan. Never had one but heard when it breaks down, they are very expensive to resurrect. Has hydraulic tiller and a mowing deck that was used twice. Filled with gas and runs good with no problem. Tiller does work and deck is not locked up. Undecided about it's life since it was a free for the taking. I know it would look better painted and think I might paint it like my 970 farm tractor. Orange wheels and frame, Desert Tan for hood and fenders. Too many irons in the fire due to hauling garbage and farming between rain drops. What to do..... Thanks for reading!

2 pointsI got the 10 ton version but only used it once and not on WH hub. you will break the hub if you use it on the flange. However if you can pull on the back of the hub the hydraulic thing would work. See two examples of pulling on the rear of the hub

2 pointsThat is the sad irony of the “throw away” society we live In today. I almost got rid of my Case 224. After a couple of years of use and having to fix a few things on it, I went out and bought a new box store cheapo lawn mower. I was “tired of fixing the old junker”, at least that was my mindset at the time. My Case had a snowthrower with it and that was what kept me from unloading it at the time (this was before I got into the hobby). I’m so glad that I didn’t get rid of it! After about 5 years with the cheapo, I realized that it was about the worst $2200 I had ever spent. I began the search for something old and well made. Came across my diesel Cub and ever since then, I have a whole new appreciation for all things old that are well made. I’m amazed how machines like my son’s 854 are basically all original, more than 50 years old and still fully functional! Keep on rescuing those vintage tractors. As a matter of fact, you should start a thread in the off topics of your finds...

2 pointsYep on the 520 wheels the Nancos were sidewall "bulgy" (for lack of a better word) and on the narrow rims sidewalls flat even with tread. Sometimes cheaper isn't better and just because it says "23x10.50-12" doesn't really mean it's that size...i do believe the Hi-Run AGs from TSC are closer to stated width than these NANCO (Deestones) brand.

2 pointsWhen priming - you'll save a lot of time filling imperfections with high-build primer versus the cheaper stuff. Primer isn't very expensive, which is good since you'll end up sanding off 80% of the stuff. Sarge

2 pointsI believe Kohler's plan is to offer the employees from engine plant in WI, positions in one of their other plants in WI. They are still keeping their plumbing and generator plants in WI.

2 pointsWe run a 6hp Foos hit and miss engine with a muffler packed pretty good full of steel wool. You'd never know it was running. As for a small high speed engine, I have never tried that. I've got an old Maytag 1 cyl that also has some steel woll in the exhaust hose come to think of it.

2 pointsThanks Achto for bringing me in on this one. My cousin Mike has about 28 Case GT’s. He knows them inside and out like many guys on here are familiar with their horses. He just finished the resto on this Golden Demo tribute tractor. If this were an actual Demo, it would be an extremely rare machine. His buddy didn’t have one and so he commissioned Mike to build him one. Mike’s work is first class and he is a stickler for the details much like Achto! The first garden tractor that I purchased was a 1980 small wheel Case from one of my uncles. It has been in the family since 1986 and is a Case 224. Someday my daughter and I will refurbish it together. They are stout little machines. The only thing that is frustrating to me is that the HyDrive system is not infinite speeds like a hydrostatic drive. I’ll have to check with Mike but I’m pretty sure that hydraulic driven attachments were available over a multiple year span. I know that Mike has owned hydraulic mower decks, tillers, hydro cutters, etc through the years. You got a great deal on that Big Wheel Case—have fun with it!

2 pointsCongratulations on a super score!!!!! That is a very desirable tractor in the Case GT world!! Those were built in Winneconne WI, only about 20 miles from my home. The Onan in there is like an Onan in a , good smooth power with great torque. Down side of an Onan is, Cummins dropped them completely. No more parts being produced so it's down to NOS & the few after market parts. Which makes parts very expensive. First off the tractor is a high wheel. Ka ching $$$$!! I know of non-running junk high wheels that have sold for $500+, yours runs. I also think that the all hydro drive implements was a one year thing, could be wrong on that. @PeacemakerJack might be able to correct me on that if I'm wrong. He has relation that is all about Case GT's.

2 pointsThe Red... aside from the whisker hair or pube on the fender pan ..gets covered up by the seat anyway... Dan was scratching himself alot! Absolutely awesome finnish for a GT! Put them in the guest bedroom for safekeeping and curing. This is what the master says and who am I to argue? Belt guard did not come out to his perfection and threatened to beat me over the noggin with it if he could not refinish to his perfection..again who am I to argue? Damn shame his fenders suffered the same. Real bad time to come down with the "runs" when spraying automotive quality red! Pics are not doing justice!
