10 pointsIt's a good thing I have ww-93 weights. My lift is a 2000 pound winch with a snack block.. and to charge battery, a 10si 63 amp one wire alternator. Never a dead battery.
-
9 pointsFinally got around to using a new toy I picked up last year. It crimps fittings on the end of hydraulic hoses. Not as fast as the big professional hydraulic criimpers but it is much cheaper . and i am not in that big a rush. Last picture shows new hose on my Charger(hose on the right). No leaks from that. Now i have to fix teh controlvalve itself.

7 pointsGot it running! I tried everyone's suggestion and I it turned out to be the plug to the ignition was loose. Thank you to Paul, Mike and Bob.
-
7 pointsThanks Richie! Got lucky and for some reason it always seems the first one is the best one. Every time I try to copy something it doesn't come out as good. The piece of wood cut off the block was used like this and the width and thickness for the hood and seat are very close to being the same, so sanding it to shape made it just a little thinner and smaller. May have used a different piece for the trans case but can't remember. I'll be selling little RJ model kits for $99.98 You too can have your own model RJ to collect and share with your friends. Makes a great display and a wonderful conversation piece! You will be the envy of your neighborhood !!!!!!! Very Easy to Build and the kit includes EVERYTHING you need. So ORDER NOW! Call Today! 1 800 747-8633 (RIPUOFF) Call today! Call today! Call today! Call today! But Wait! Order within the next 10 seconds and get a second one for free!!! Just pay extra for shipping & handling (and to throw some extra cash in my pocket!) These very easy to build kits include a beautiful block of yellow pine, a bent dowel, a super sharp razor blade, a butter knife for sawing, a large piece of sandpaper and not enough glue. Comes with minimal instructions that might have a couple of horrible stick pictures!

5 pointsOr to fend off any irate customers Oh, you got one of the early partially assembled versions. I see the steering shaft and a couple of frame rails! When you cut the point off the rails use one of the little points for the spark plug! You're almost done!
-
5 pointsNo, but it's possible the deal could include some free Band-Aids since the razor blade is dangerous! Or, maybe just include in the instructions that the blood is to be used for WH red and intended for use to color your new wood model. The more blood, the more richer and deeper the color will become so adjust the luster to your own individual taste.

4 pointsI bought this tractor a little while back for $50 from my neighbor that was moving out of state. It had been stored for over 15 years and had 211 hours on it when I bought it from him. The machine came with a nice snow plow, mower deck and wheel weights, but the engine wad bad. It took some time to gather all the parts I needed to get it back up and running, but i'm satisfied with the results. I had to replace the 2 front tires, repair the engine, it was ran out of oil by his son. I had to replace pistons, rods, new rings and a crankshaft and now it runs like new. It still needs a little more work to be complete, the pulley covers on the mower deck need replaced and I plan to change oil in the tranny come spring. I also did some touch up paint work on a few places that needed it. This is my 3rd horse and it hopefully will last a few years.because there is nothing today that comes close to what these machines are. Just thought I would share my last project with the members here.
-
4 pointsDidn't get much done today ( except writing jokes) but did get to work on one tire for a rim and try to get it to look right. Curved the sides so it doesn't look so flat walled and more like a tire. And more side wall on the new larger tires. Time for little slats around the insides

3 pointsEnded up trying my hand with Magic Spray Paint and a 15$ Harboo Freight Gun. Results were pretty good once I figured the paint rate and pressure. I am going to try clear enamel and cutting n buff in the next couple weeks. I will post the results.
-
3 pointsCan you show a video of you applying the numbers on the spark plug? Are you going to paint them with a one hair brush or is @Vinylguy going to do the graphics??? It would also be helpful to see how you tap the head so the plug screws in ...

3 pointsPlease forget to read the fine print! There is absolutely no support to answer ANY of your questions. Just order now! Thank you! Oh, forgot to mention "Have your credit card ready when placing your order" as to not waste any of my time while you fumble around looking for it!

3 pointsOk so a little update on the restoration. Due to overtime at work and some unforeseen family emergencies I haven’t been able to do much on the tractor. BUT I was able to finally meet up with @bmiller0457 and snag this snow blower and parts tractor off of him. I am also working with my paint supplier on a color match for the tractor since under the seat pans on both tractors is not faded out at all. I will post a formula for it once we have it. Progress will be slow but continued until overtime slows down at work then watch out!

3 pointswhile you are at it , its probably a good time to replace the shiftier boot, they usually crack and let in moisture, about 9 $ on the net. use silicone grease on shiftier rod for smooth easy install , Pete

3 pointsNothing really special about those rear diamond tread rear turfs... that I'm aware of...other than, you just don't see that many of them surviving these days. I've got a couple sets of them sitting around here. Nice score on that little RJ you picked up there... from the images you've provided, I see lot's to love about that little guy.

3 pointsDid some maintenance on the deck of my 414-8 today. Sharpened the blades cleaned the deck and painted it underneath greased everything up, new belts! Ready to mow!
-
3 pointsThanks guy's for all the kind reply's. Tractor now runs like it was brand new. My next move is to find a snow blower and have it ready for next year. For now, we are looking forward to summer sunshine and mowing. Nothing beats a HORSE !!!!!!
-
2 pointsWell I had found out about this machine about a month ago. Finally was able to meet up with the guy this morning. He's got to move somethings so I can go pick it up. But wanted one for awhile and finally got one!!! It's ether a 1948 or 1949. Super excited to get it home and start playing with it.
-
2 pointsWell, as stated before, I can't paint... so how's this for something close? Try drilling a hole by hand with a dremel tool lengthwise down the center of a toothpick. That piece is about 1" long. So far there's no holes drilled into my fingers on these particular projects but it has happened numerous times. Strange is the holes stay clean for just a little while if they are straight in and you can see right down to the bottom of'em. Worst was an 1/8" hole about 1/4" deep in my thumb. took a long time to heal that one.
-
2 pointsYes, bought the 953 from a old guy several years ago. He used it for plowing a small church parking lot, and wore out the original kohler. He replaced that with a old cast iron briggs engine which when I got it, the head was cracked. Instead of messing around with worn out parts, replaced it engine with the predator 420cc, which had to move the front nose piece 4" to fit. Still have and use the hydraulic lift and 54" dozer blade. So added a swisher bucket and have a one bottom 12" moldboard which runs off hydraulic lift in slot hitch. The bucket mount are wide enough to pull bucket off and put dozer blade on.

2 pointsDidn't know the sunnen cylinder hone, but i reworked in the Past myself a 4,2 Liter Diesel Engine from a 40 year old Mercedes. The reason for rework was weak fireup and lot of oil burning. A very heavy job at this Truck, because the house over the Engine can not be tilt as on actual Trucks. All my measuring at the Engine was in tolerance compared with Mercedes Data Values so far at that Old Lady, Just the crosscut was completley "like glass". It burned a lot of Oil (about 5 Liters at 100Km) The Engine has Rep Stage 1 on Cylinder, means they seemed to be reworked allready at about 500.000 -700.000 Km i guess. Only the Valves and their Seats last's complete out of tolerance, so i decided to exchange the Cylinderhead to a reworked one in exchange, because of the good condition after 980.000 original Km in stage1 of the Cylinders (bougth it with 950.000 Km on Tacho) About all that issues, i just decided to rehone the Cylinders carefully a bit, give them a new crosscut, insert new Crankshaft bearings and 4 brandnew 5Ring Pistons and that's it. I drove that Old Lady myself until 1.320.650Km and sale it to a Fella, who's need it for his collection of Mercedes. The Engine fireup immediately after 4 Cranks at - 21Deg. and is also still in Service continousely. The Oil consumption is now at about 0.1liter/1000Km. It was the first direct injection without Glow Plugs...😎 I used a Flexhone for the crosscut, a very handsome tool as i found.. http://www.brushresearch.com/brushes.php?c1=2 the main thing i learned at this job was a lot of Oil to wash out the honecut and low speed at the hone rotation and lift. Goal was at about 72deg. Crosscut, that seems to be the best value.

2 pointsAlready spotted that Kevin. Mine even has the tires still on the rims😂. Love my cart!!

2 pointsanything that can be added to that thread related to plowing will help future guys that want to try that segment of the hobby. More and more antique tractor shows that have plowing as part of the festivities have opened up to GT plowing because many folks have garden tractors compared to fewer and fewer that own their full size counterparts. It is also interesting the crowd that a group of GT’s plowing a larger field will draw. Many people will stop to watch for awhile. Most will say that they never knew that a GT was capable to do that type of work... @Cetan08 can’t wait to “watch” you get yours setup and working!
-
2 pointsEric you’re gonna have to tell them to turn off the snowmaking machine! It’s still beautiful though to see the winter wonderland. I don’t want to tell you it’s 67° here today! I got the horses out of the stall today and gave em some sunshine!
-
2 pointsI will be sure to do this and add pictures along the way. Great idea.

2 points1996 suggested list price model 73422 416-8, regular $4399.00, on special $3899.00. model 78345 42" side mower, regular$770.00, on special $770.00.

2 pointsI recently bought a new 'Kelch" cap (the one that will read fuel level) , having bought several of these I never thought about the venting as all others were vented. Well, after several events of engines unexplainably quitting - and I was a looong was from the shop, I loosened the cap and get a very noticeable 'whoosh!' OOOOK!! theres the problem! Leaving the cap loose I drove back to the shop and drilled a tiny hole in the cap -- and problem solved
-
2 pointsWell I opened the trans case. Could only get the right hub off, so had to pull the differential along with the left side of the case. Took differential apart and will need to use hydraulic press to get the left hub off and check the key etc. The left input shaft bearing needles fell out while cleaning (also found some grit in the area) and the right input shaft bearing needles stayed in place but there is a needle missing, I never found it unless it was in the case and I thought it came from the left bearing (not sure how others stay in place but one fell out) Anyway I went ahead and ordered a whole kit so I'd have everything encase I found more issues as I get deeper into it. Since I'll be set up to press those two bearings would you guys go ahead and replace the others? OR just hold onto the other bearings for future need? Thanks

2 pointsJust to confirm....... The old pump is mechanical too, right? If you tried priming it from the top fuel line and that didn't work...... Compare the pump levers, old vs new to see if they match up angle wise. Could be the pump arm is not engaging with the lobe inside.
-
2 pointsI have ordered a few carbs, gasket sets and some other item from IST and have never had an issue. I like his carburetors, they install and work perfectly with little to no adjustments.
-
2 pointsya there’s no cracks in the tires so the rims are going to get painted. The first words out of My buddy mouth when I sent him pics of my RJ was I want to buy them cuz they are cool.... I said not for sale. but to reply about the 701 hood. I will be fixing it but with another nose...same nose but not destroyed. Thanks for all the comments 👍

2 pointsI have decided to put a set of AG's on the 416-8 and plow with it and set the tiller up on the D. The D is the only one with PTO for the tiller anyway. Wished I had put this in the plow thread. There is great info over there. Thanks everyone.
-
2 pointsNo adjustable tappets. If they are too tight, the stems have to be ground. If there is too much gap, they either have to be replaced or the valve seats ground to allow the valve stem to sit closer to the tappet.
-
2 pointsThanks JCM, seems like the consensus is a 520 is better than a C series. Although a C series would get the job done. Thanks everyone for their opinions and real life experiances.
-
2 points@Cetan08 I would go for the 416-8 provided you have the weights and tires for it. The D would be a fun tractor to plow on as well but you just need to make sure that you have a strong hydro on it. Caleb plowed on his 418-C last summer and it did really well. I have posted this video before but it shows that a strong hydro and proper weights will make a good plow tractor. I have always been more partial to a Gear Jammer for plowing though. My personal plow tractor is a 314-8 and it works great... What I personally like about the GD tractors is that you select your gear for the conditions, typically 2nd, let out the clutch after dropping the plow and go. However, I know lots of guys that plow on a hydro with great success. I don’t know if you have followed the big plow thread, but I suggest looking there if you haven’t. It was pinned by the moderators and will give you lots great thoughts and advice on plow setups. Feel free to ask any questions you like here or specifically on that thread as we are trying to continue to develop it into a great resource for anyone new to plowing. It is also good for us that have been plowing awhile to pick up tips and thoughts from the other “plow dogs”! Eric—thanks for bringing me in on this one!

2 pointsMe and Trina and the dog just came back from an hour or so snowshoeing in the forest. Temperature in the high 30s and nice bright beautiful sunshine. As we were coming back up the hill we scared up a GREAT HORNED OWL. THAT RIGHT THERE IS A MASSIVE BIRD

2 pointsTalk about a nice day...there were fresh, home made nutter butter peanut butter sandwich cookies straight out of the oven, waiting for me when I got home.
-
2 pointsWell I was finally able to get the bolens home today! I'll get better pics when I get it unloaded.
