Stick the cotter pin in behind the terminal where the male terminal would enter while holding the wire. That will bend the tab down. Leave the cotter pin there and the wire and terminal should pull out of the plastic holder. Use the blade of a knife to bent the tab back up and reinsert into the plastic holder. Don't flip it over. It will only lock in with the tab facing the same direction. Male terminal released the same way by collapsing the hook.
