4 pointsThe Sundstrand hydros have a tow valve that needs to be opened to allow the tractors to be moved. They should only be pushed slowly by hand. The hydro must be engaged to release the parking brake on some models. The early hydros (875) had the valve at the upper left rear as a hex nut. Later it was a petcock on top left , and later, it was a slotted screw at the left front of the hydro. The Eatons have no tow valve. The 700 can not be moved but the 1100 can be moved slowly by hand.

4 pointsI second that! Thanks guys for the awesome posts about your families. Each member is so unique and special. When you look at the variety of things represented in just these few photos you have shared, it is so easy to understand that each individual is an amazing creation. It never ceases to encourage me when I see parents so involved in the raising of their kids. All I can say guys is, “Keep at it, you’re doing great and you have some awesome kids!” I can’t wait to hear/see about their latest antics as they happen...

4 pointsThanks Josh for pulling me in on this one, we must have been floating around the Caribbean about the time you posted this! My two girls are completely right brain vs left brain. Jada is very methodical, artistic and organized. Maybe not if you looked at her bedroom... but if friends come over, a schedule must be followed. Rylee is happy go lucky without a plan or a care. When they started gymnastics, we watched them both trying their best to have rhythm, coordination, strength, all for a common goal. I couldn’t help but laugh out loud watching Rylee. She had barely any of the requirements to be a gymnast. Within months, Jada figured out the sport isn’t for her. Rylee took right off. She’s one level away from being on the traveling team and is tough as nails. 9 hours of practice per week will do that to ya. I think she’d be good at martial arts, because when I pin her down in a tickling match, she focuses more on how to get me and less on what’s happening to her. Jada has continued to excel in math and art, her creativity is second to none. She’ll be an engineer, or artist of some type. She’s always building towers, boxes, origami and the like. She is in American Sign Language at the homeschool academy and was tasked with an art project. She quickly whipped out a sign on her bedroom wall. Before I explain what it is, I’ll let you guys guess or say what it says... Here are a couple pictures showing some of their pass time activities. People often asked us if we were going to “try for a boy.” My girls can play in the mud and wear a pretty dress all in the same day. They smell better than boys and generally have better manners. I am happy to have my girls, and pretty proud of them too! Yes, the picture of us on the chair lift has a clip of Rylee with no skiis... she decided to stick them in the bank just after we got picked up. Unloading at the top sure was a treat! Oh, and Baby isn’t ours, she just gets to hang out with us a couple days a week. I guess I’m a fun uncle, or just cheaper than a hired hand!

3 pointsMike, this is an old one, but aren't we all! MY FIVE NEW BOYFRIENDS! I am seeing 5 gentlemen every day. As soon as I wake up, Will Power helps me get out of bed. Then I go to see John. Then Charlie Horse comes along, and when he is here, he takes a lot of my time and attention. When he leaves, Arthur Ritis shows up and stays the rest of the day. He doesn't like to stay in one place very long, so he takes me from joint to joint. After such a busy day, I'm really tired and glad to go to bed with Ben Gay What a life! Oh, yes, I'm also flirting with Al Zymer. and thinking of calling JACK DANIELS or JOHNNY WALKER to come and keep me company. Now remember this: Life is like a roll of toilet paper the closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes...

3 pointsMike, I pray that your surgery goes as well as mine and you have a speedy recovery. My back had gotten so bad I couldn't walk more than fifty feet without sitting down, three weeks after surgery I was able to attend our local tractor show and get around with a walker/chair. My wife wasn't too happy when she found out where my buddy took me, OH WELL, she got over it.

3 pointsJust wanted to say thanks to everyone. I ended up putting in the used pump I got. I did take apart and check it. Looked real good. Tractor all back togeather for the most part. And it moves! part was from a c series. Auto. It had motion splint on both sides. It works great.

3 pointsDefinitely got some great ideas today. @pfrederi He indicated that we should be able to get a minimum 1/2 cord per acre per year indefinitely. The current forest is soooo thick we'll get 2 to 4 per year for several seasons.

3 pointsRemoving oils and other contamination is the key here - it is a good practice to clean the parts even before grinding. This will prevent contaminating the grinding disks (especially the flap wheel types). Yes, you can just grind and weld parts - but your welds will suffer as a result in one way or another, regardless of what process is used. Cleaning the parts first, grinding/shaping them for good fit-up and cleaning again prior to welding will produce the least contamination and always the best results. You'll find the base metals melt easier, flow better and are overall easier to see the weld puddle. With TIG, you can almost never use too much argon flow but you can induce a vacuum effect that can draw oxygen into the weld - this is why there are listed parameters for argon flow rates for specific nozzle designs. It actually applies to all gas types of welding - so pay attention to that. Black, pepper-looking welds on aluminum generally mean there is a presence of oxygen - you need better argon coverage to prevent that. Screen type gas lens nozzles really help but do add some expense over the general nozzles with just the side-facing holes. https://www.ckworldwide.com/standard-kits.html I have stopped using brake cleaners of any sort to clean metal for welding - almost every brand/style of brake cleaner leaves some slight residue and that was leading to problems that were very hard to track down. Acetone leaves absolutely no residue if you wipe the parts with enough clean rags soaked with that chemical unless the rags are contaminated. There have been plenty of videos about how clean versus contaminated the metal can be from using anything other than acetone or a cheaper alternative - denatured alcohol. A serious warning about brake cleaners here - this is no joke. Any brake cleaner that contains even trace amounts of chlorine or Tetrachloroethylene can cause a reaction when the weld cone hits a pocket of wet brake cleaner or the residue left behind, especially inside of cracks. As it is burned within the argon envelope it can generate Phosgene gas - this is a chemical warfare tool used in WW1 and can disable or kill you quickly. This is no joke - not just in the TIG process, but all welding processes https://envirofluid.com/articles/tetrachloroethylene-a-deadly-danger-in-brake-cleaner/ https://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/MHMI/mmg176.pdf https://youtu.be/r7srRiQebq0 I use only acetone or denatured alcohol, period. I do not trust manufacturers and their can labels to fully disclose what they use in their products - trace amounts are allowed to a certain spec and those traces are what can seriously hurt you. I use non-chlorinated brake cleaner, outside only for de-greasing parts and never on parts that are to be welded. Denatured alcohol is really cheap and available by the gallon - although not as fast nor as effective as acetone. Yes, acetone is not good for your skin, but compatible (generally black or green) chemical gloves are cheap and can even be re-used - wear them! If you use the denatured alcohol instead, just make sure to give it time to dry. Do not use off the shelf rubbing alcohol - it can actually contain oils intended for that purpose. Hardware store grade denatured alcohol is fine and cheap - just be aware as with any type of cleaner of flammability. The worst part of catching both of those chemicals on fire is a nearly clear flame that is almost impossible to see - so use it with caution as any other chemical. Just be aware, good old Dawn dish soap and water works just as well, although it will take more time and scrubbing. This old soap and water solution is also the safest method to clean anything. Think about it - they use the stuff to clean wildlife of crude oil spills, lol. I don't mean to lecture about this stuff, but welding is quite dangerous and generally not taken all that seriously. Yeah, lots of garage mechanics do this and that for years with no problems, but it only takes one time to do the wrong thing and you can pay for it with your life. No different than the risk of electric shock, burns, or poisonous fumes - you have to take these things seriously. Ventilation and solid shop practices will keep you going safely and make you work more efficiently without damaging your health - or anyone else for that matter. Any time you take on a new venture with something you're not familiar with - research it, that time spent can save you a lot of grief later. Sarge

3 pointsOh they get their share of helpin. When we are not using buster they get trailers loaded with wood. I did try to take the ice fishing this morning and got blown off the lake before we even started. It kinda worked out in my favor since I had to bring in wood. Aiden and Alex were finishing breakfast with my wife while I did it. Tomorrow they will bring in a full trailer. Today's was only a partial. If I stack it up nice I can get enough wood to last over a week in 1 load. I'm did a quick load cause I'm gonna venture out and go work at my fire station with some other firefighters. We have been building our own turn out gear drying rack and we are almost done.

2 pointsLooking totally sweet there Eric and Trina—loving what you are doing with the cinnamon horse—the detail is great! I see that full depth air cleaner looks right at home on there with the fresh matching paint. The red letters on the white painted engine tin is gonna pop when the cinnamon hood is in place...can’t wait!

2 pointsMy firewood cutting at camp is the reason I have Wheel Horse tractors. Needed a good solid pulling rig to tow my log splitter and our firewood cart. I was literally smoking the belts and transmission on our old Craftsman garden tractor. We burn mostly locust, red oak, white oak and black oak. Since the Emerald Ash Borer wiped out our ash trees, we burned a good bit of green and white ash over the last three years. Here are a few few pictures of the purpose built 312-8 and wood piles at camp. We had a source for short rolls of EPDM roofing that works great to shed water and snow while keeping the sides of the woodpiles open for drying. I am also a woodworker, so any sizable trees that come down at camp or in our back lot at home get hauled to a buddy's band mill for conversion into dimensional lumber. Looking forward to retirement when I hope to have enough free time to make some things out of my stockpile of hardwoods. Cheers! Dave

2 pointsThat is about as cheap as it gets - if he does good work (which I don't doubt) it would be worth the shipping cost. My guy will be more expensive but absolutely refuses to ever take any shortcuts or use cheaper parts. It is getting really hard to find good, trustworthy small engine shops - no one wants to do the work and especially try to source quality replacement parts. Part of the problem is that no one expected these engines to last as many years or hours as they have proven - that era is pretty much gone now. Sarge

2 pointsEric if you remove all scale and high spots the belts will hold up spray some paint on mainly to fill the pits in on the pulleys and keep them from rusting more the paint will wear off were the belt runs but will stay in the pit holes I have fixed many pulleys with a sandblaster and a can of spray paint Brian

2 pointsThat one is an easy fix for any long frame tractor just by adding the lift tab (unpainted part in the pic).
-
2 pointsI had had that same thought. I may have some NOS Wheelhorse belts in the auction pile. I've already cleaned it up quite a bit in preparation for paint so most of the rust and scale is gone. Not sure.... Original . Pulley as far as I know. @OILUJ52 and @ztnoo Joe and Steve I think I may do the "engine as lathe mount" as suggested. Should have the cinnamon running soon. If nothing else I can at least take the high spots off.

2 pointsBetween my parents house and mine we burn 8 to 10 cords a year. My parents have 12 acres of woods attached to both our house lots but the hill is pretty steep. We select harvest off their land and take any hardwood people want to get rid of. I work for a big private school and am able to get a lot of hard wood for free when we do tree jobs. We also will buy it in log length which is the best way for dad's home made wood processor "Buster". Buster certainly saves my back. We can cut about a cord an hour. Dad's always revamping something tho. He has a new wood splitter that he has been working on. Last spring we had 4 log truck loads of logs on the ground here. We have probably 2 left that need to get cut still.

2 pointsOh where to begin.... my 3 kids have given me some of the best memories and laughs in my life. They are so much alike in many ways but are 3 completely different people. I will start with my daughter Alanna. Not many current photos of her. She hates her picture taken and is at that age where she is gone with friends more than home. She is outgoing and smart. She certainly didn't get that from me. She has been excelling in middle school making high honors in both semesters this year. She won a deer hunting trip last year and shot her first deer. She's the one who started it all, she turned me into the man I am today. I never thought I would have settled down when I did. Then there is Aiden. This kid is a ball of fire. Tons of energy and loves to be the goof. His world revolves around baseball. It's all he wants to do (when he isn't plowing snow). He plays minor league ball during the spring then plays in a fall ball league. He's going to be starting indoor practice league some time in the next few weeks. He wants to be a big league pitcher but he is really good at second base too. He hunts, shoots bow and arrow and fishes and is a better fisherman than I am. My wife calls him my mini me. Then the not so little guy Alex. Who is shy at first but man when he opens up you can't get him to stop being a goof. He is loving and caring (just like his mom). Almost a polar opposite of his brother. He's also wicked smart and loves building things. He wants to be like my dad who can build anything. He also wants to be a fireman like his dad. He plays baseball but is very shy. Trying to get him out of his shell cause when he plays with us he is really good. He likes to join me hunting and usually sees the deer before I do. He is turning into a good fisherman to! He also is pretty good with his bow. In fact he has been out shooting his brother now that his brother spends so much time playing ball. 3 great kids who know how to instigate each other, hate each other 1 minute but inseparable the next.

2 pointsUpdate on Scottie: Yesterday, we had Scottie's 6 week follow up appointment with his orthopedic team and surgeon. Going into this appointment, Lowell and I had several questions about Scottie's pelvis causing him pain and if he was going to be requiring surgery to fix his pelvis. Scottie had several x-rays done yesterday for his clavicle and shoulder, his elbow, and of his pelvis to see how he has progressed since the accident. Once his medical team had time to review the x-rays and compare them to the original ones that were taken the day of the accident, they came to see us. This is when Lowell and my questions about Scottie's pelvis and whether or not he will be requiring more surgery to fix his pelvis were answered. Scottie's x-rays showed new bone growth and calcification where it needs to be. Scottie will not be requiring surgery to fix his pelvis or his clavicle and shoulder. That is correct NO surgery to fix his pelvis or clavicle and shoulder. We found out that Scottie's pain is from his bladder and the two catheters that are in his bladder. As for Scottie's elbow, he will be requiring surgery to remove the three plates and screws 6 months to a year from initial surgery date. The reason for the removal of the hardware is because he has limited function of his right elbow and arm. We also were told that the next step in Scottie's recovery is to start physical therapy twice a week, to take all weight restrictions off of his upper and lower left extremity and to be off all pain medications in 6 weeks. We are glad to know that Scottie's fractures and breaks are healing according to plan. If we only had to worry about his fractures and his broken bones and nothing else, the plan set forth from his orthopedics team and surgeon would be wonderful but Scottie also has his bladder and urethra problem. Understanding the next orthopedic step for Scottie, I made a call to his urology medical team and informed them of the news and next step in his recovery per the orthopedic team. I was informed that we had to hold off of his physical therapy until his entire medical team can meet next week and discuss the best plan for Scottie and where we go from here. The reason for this meeting, is because Scottie had a major setback with the bladder infection and the catheter being blocked and requiring surgery to replace the two catheters, and that everything has been pushed back until he can be where he needs to be from the urology standpoint. Scottie is still experiencing pain from his bladder spasms and the two catheters. As long as he has the catheters in his bladder, he will continue to have pain associated with that because his bladder is attacking the catheters and wanting them out. He experiences bladder spasms frequently and when he gets one he has this painful build up of pressure and then he urinates around the urethral stent. In talking to the urology team, this all normal during a bladder spasm and that does not mean that urethra is connected to the bladder or that he will have full function of his bladder, it just means that his bladder is active. When he has a bladder spasm, he requires his pain medication until we can get his pain under control. Scottie has started homebound school and he works on his assignments (1-5 questions a day) until he gets a headache. Some days he don't do homework because he has a migraine from his traumatic brain injury. We are very fortunate that his teachers want him to get better and maintain his baseline and not worry about new material. Lately, Scottie has a loss of appetite because of the pain he has been experiencing. He is allowed to have protein shakes and whatever he would like to eat. Scottie loves his cards and packages he gets in the mail. He would like me to say thank you to everyone who has sent him cards and packages. He really lights up when I tell him that he has mail...he looks forward to that and not to his homework. There is the latest package Scottie received...thank you Karl!
