9 pointsPart of today's haul. Not running as of yet. Been in storage for a long time. My first Economy Tractor.

5 points@Lane Ranger, Well, I'll be getting ready here too Lane. NOAA says between 2-5", so pick a number. It's suppose to be much more in southern Indiana. All we have had so far is a light dusting twice in late November. I haven't even gotten the "Queen Toro" walk behind snowblower out of the shed yet this winter. I'll be doing that this afternoon and putting it in our attached garage. The name comes from my wife because she owned it before we were married 11 1/2 years ago. She joked then it was her dowry to me, and we still laugh about that.

4 pointsI wonder, sure we are in 21.th century but it seems to me nearly nobody can talk normal. most contacts are via Whatsapp in extremly shorts. I may be not the youngest guy - that's for sure but must be communication just be reduced to a 2 liner Whatsapp. In a phone conversation, i am able to hear how other peoples mean their sentences, because of emphasis. A Forum is fine for contact even via large distances, but in short i preferr a simple phone call. It was more personally than a 2 liner. Yes, i am Old School. If i go in a Bank i.eg. i like to have personal Service or an Machine, but i want to choose myself, what i preferr. If i try to Buy things, i use also internet no problem, but in some circumstances i want to have an human opposite. in Advertising it can be sensful with shorts i.eg. "4U Warez" this can be a nice logo, but if i communicate with somebody i don't like such mutilated writings. Honestly i think i get old....

4 pointsMy kids have learned to love snow, not sure if the Polaris Indy 440 and living in a field had anything to do with it... here they are on the Polaris Scrambler 400 tearing it up, I can’t find pics of them on the Indy.

4 pointsWent out this am at my brother David's place to see if the 314 Wheel Horse was all ready for removing snow in the drive . We are expected to receive a good bit of snow tonight and Saturday. As I got ready to start the tractor I found out the choke cable was frozen and would not move. So I used a technique that I have used before. Brought out a hair dryer and set it on the handle, cable and motor linkage for a few minutes. Loosened up and I then sanded the choke handle end and lubed with grease. Works great now! So should start right away.
-
4 pointsGood “Wheel Horse” morning, y’all! The sun is rising and I’m gearing up for a little trip to Watervliet to Lane Automotive. Snapped a couple nice pics before heading out!
-
4 pointsI would think that would be fine. Some old transmissions with loose needle bearings you have to grease them to stay in place during assembly. The gear oil will mix with the grease and you will never know it was there. Cleat

3 pointsSomehow I have acquired two 48” snowplows with the 5 hole sectors. The weird thing is I never see them or hear anything about them. Mine are very different in the angling hardware. One has the standard rigid wire to the triangle plate that pivots and pulls the angle position pin. The other has a cable similar to the brake cables on a bicycle. The angle arm also has some interesting factory bends in it. They both work perfect. Are they rare? What years were they produced?

3 pointsTension spring should fit in there, but it is not always easy to do so and then sometimes it is too loose. You don't have to worry too much about the surface rust on stator. It is not going to affect how it works. Just clean the grime off of it. Sometimes when being too zealous with cleaning these old things one does more harm than good.Lamination's are fine, lots of them look like that. As for the contact marks on stator and flywheel i see that often. I think most of the times is metal stuff that gets attracted to magnets and creates contact. If it was a serious contact believe me you will know it. Just make sure when you put everything back together that flywheel is properly seated and tight. There should not be however contact with the ignition coil case. Make sure that it will be all the way in and that it is secure so it does not creep out. If you are committed to that engine and I hope so, its a good time to replace also points and condenser. Get familiar with the setting of the timing on it , they are very sensitive to that. You will need to remove the head to do that properly and it is a good time then to clean it it and inspect the condition of the bore and valves. The presence and location of carbon or lack of it in certain areas will tell the condition of things such as the rings. Ill get you some information on the timing and correct points and condenser. Last but not least you will pay for all the help you get by passing what you learn on to someone else. Knowledge is not our property nor it is meant to be hidden or kept. We are merely caretakers of it.It is our responsibility to use it, add to it and pass it on.

3 pointsGeez all I got for a dowry was a 16-38HXL vertical....guess I just got tired of waiting for the right woman with a C-160 to come along! Well hows 'bout some of them Model A's then?!?!?
-
3 pointsI don't think I would pack a lot of grease in the bearings. remember the oil has to get through some of the bearings to get to the ones on the out end. Outer axle bearings and the outer input bearing. I would just soak in the 90wt for a minute or two.

3 points@wallfish@Jason BWe are dealing with hen's teeth here. That is why it is so important to become familiar with the electrical workings of this engine prior to attempting to work on it. Parts are extremely hard to find. I am not aware of a way to check those generating coils unless they are on engine and is on. (Where the heck is that "squirrel" guy?). Here is what you need. Don't wait too long!! Generating coils---------Not the correct # but I used them in the past on a H60 and they worked! Remove yours and check wires against it.Perhaps you can ask vendor for dimensions of coils and shaft dimension.I remember them being a little sloppy on lamination's even with the spring. I made an additional shim out of vinyl. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tecumseh-Generating-Coil-Part-29558-NOS-NLA/233041357580 Ignition coil------Correct part---https://www.ebay.com/itm/WICO-12915-5-5033-COIL-FITS-LAUSON-ENGINES-28259-NEW-OLD-STOCK/262862626885 In addition below is some more information on this system. If you need diodes I have spares. 3 pointsWe just finished taking a shower and putting on the last of our clean and dry clothes and were trying to settle down for the night when the music started.... The boy asked if we could join and I said it is raining and we just took a shower. The boy replied please... that is one of the two reasons I wanted to come to the show. I replied what is the other reason? He said to spend time with you dad. So we saddled up and off we went. This is what he looked like after....
-
3 pointsThis event is always held Friday night after the ice cream social, now since it was kinda raining having the cruise night was unsure by me BUT many kids and adults asked for the music sooooooo lets have fun ! Now it did take a while for my butt to dry off but I would do it again . It was hard to imagine how many people jumped on their tractors for a cruise. Steve with his 420 SLE really shows how bad folks wanna have fun ........ now I'm thinkin' the umbrella was only used to keep his cigar lit . Thanks for the video . Wild Bill in Richmond VA

2 pointsSo the perks of my "job" being self employed and having my girls while mommy goes to work, is that I tip-toe around the house in the morning while they sleep in and I hang laundry on the lines and check for chicken eggs, etc. Seeing this after I hung it on the line made me think of @ACman and I thought I should share some pictures of the day!

2 pointsI sold this last fall. 1975 C-120 Auto. The buyer called and asked if I wanted it back. I couldn't say no. He put about 4-5 hours on it. The war dept. told him him he had to chose between a motorcycle or the WH.

2 pointsHere are just a couple pictures of an actuator I installed on a tall shoot snowblower. I did put a video on YouTube but there's not enough room to put it on this site

2 pointsI just did a quick search there is a k91 for sale by me 15 minutes away for 65 bucks

2 pointsDan @Achto...dang the museum I gotta go on a mission from God.....more to follow should I succeed. ..

2 pointsNo problem honey. Here's your new push mower and snow shovel. It's so wonderful you decided to take on these chores. I'm going for a long ride with my extra time. Luv you!
-
2 pointsThank you everyone. This is quite the welcome! See attached for my 312-8. It is such a great machine. These were made in time when things were truly built to last. All the 310's have gone on CL but I will be looking for a nice parts tractor for a 312. What parts do you all consider to be the most important to have on hand for replacement? Hardest parts to find that need to be replaced? Thank you
-
2 pointsThanks again for posting this! I had left to the hotel and dinner for the night, wish someone woulda’ jumped on Putt Putt and taken it for a spin! I woulda’ even topped it off before I left 👍 can’t wait for June 20... except Mrs. Pullstart’s ride isn’t ready yet! Rain or shine, there’ll be 4 more people cruising from Middleville, MI!

2 pointsI don't know about rarity but the xi and 260 series blades had the 5 position quadrants maybe even earlier, but that angle lever with the cable is what my dealer ordered for me way back in the fall of 1998 for the mid 70s 3 position blade I bought for the Anniversary 520H.
-
2 pointsI'm pretty happy about the fact that the "War Dept" here now has two of her own in the herd...
-
2 pointsAll kidding aside and to the point, now, they are increasingly hard to find. I noticed a big difference in the last few years around here, since I am always looking for them. Normal price around here is about $150.00 to $200.00 for a running one. That of course does not tell the whole story about it as Achto mentioned Many times one gets lucky and they are really good.Anything Kohler K series that I come across NOS ( and they are out there) comes home with me. I found many in old repair shops that had them for many years and were just cleaning up. Last haul was 2 NOS k301 and a NOS k181.Decades of grime and dust on them but pristine inside. All 3 were $150.00.

2 pointsAll went very well for the first time. I got the deck off easily, plow mounted, new snow chains on, and the driveway plowed. Some very heavy/wet snow. It has been melting for a week and gotten rained on at least 3 times. Great fun! So a bit curious, should I leave the mule drive on, or remove completely. I took the guard off for this first run, it looked like the plow might hit it in the raised position. Still need to troubleshoot the lights, do the oil change and a couple other things. May have a loose wire to the starter too. Thanks to all who offered advise!,,, 1423B20C-C22D-449F-A532-83EFF28F0B8E.MOV

2 pointsAmen! In the day and age of “u”, pls, etc... I try my darndest to type proper with real language. Sometimes a little “hick” gets in the way, like fixin’ things, cuttin’, weldin’... but that’s for my own entertainment, not to be lazy.

2 pointsIt's been 2 weeks since the incident, loaded up a small amount of seasoned walnut I cut last spring and took it to my parents in WV this morning...shoulder still sore but "working" my way through it, while I was there I fired up the Cub Cadet 1450 with snow blower to keep the internals lubed up and ready to go if they get any snow this weekend the pond beside the garage and woodshed is frozen over like a skating rink. 2 pointsI’ve been paid for my season of snow plowing... the less it snows, the more I make! In all honesty, I love pushing snow
-
2 pointsDave's bracket braces are a great fix and quite easy to make. Even if you only own a jigsaw you could cut them out of good quality angle iron if you use the right metal cutting blade and take your time. Those pictures are deceiving - if you sandblast that frame plate you'll find twice as many cracks at minimum or even find out it's completely shattered. Push that thing hard working in dirt or similar and the remaining cracks you can't see will open all the way up - giving you a sway-backed Horse. Those early rear frame plates were stamped steel - they just used the wrong alloy and it caused the part to become brittle. The stress from using blades, lifting decks or especially heavy rear implements causes that plate to flex under power - so it shatters. A good welding shop with Dave's transmission dimensions could easily build a new plate and weld it onto a stripped frame and prepped frame pretty cheap. If you ever even consider working it hard (and, why not?) I'd advise adding in Dave's bracing system. That will permanently fix the rear frame issue and not look out of place enough to detract from the tractor's value. Someone had to push that short frame pretty hard to break that plate - it's rare when those are broken since the short frame doesn't have nearly as much leverage against that mounting point as the long frame models. Might want to take a close look at the wheel hubs - the keyways are probably heavily worn from whatever it took to break the frame plate as well. Sarge

2 pointskyle, that's normal ...murphy's Law.. btw. Very nice Pic's Kev 👍 Tonight we awaiting here another half meter.. And that means.....🚜 😇 Plow Plow Plow a little Snow Snow Snow... Hahahaha

2 points@TractorheadWere expecting a maximum of 7in over night. We haven’t had an measurable accumulation all season, but since I’ve spent the last few days working on the family car instead of the tractor, we’re going to get it tonight 🙄🤷🏻♂️😂

2 pointsYup, 1978. I'm guessing one of the main reasons was to get it away from the battery. I never thought about the cooling issue with the hydro but I can see it. As far as the wobble mount engines fortunately they didn't stick around long. I agree, two bad ideas.
-
2 pointsCraig, you might be putting that tractor and blade to use this weekend - I know if you were in my part of Missouri you would be. We're supposed to get a lot of snow, I heard amounts from 8 inches to 13 or more for this area.
-
2 pointsI just used a couple drops of gear oil on them to help ease the pieces in place
-
2 pointsI replaced the rubber mounts on my ‘78 C-161 with solid mounts and didn’t notice any added vibration. I did get much improved power transfer though the belt. The rubber mounts deflected so much that the drive belt never achieved full tension on the pulley and would cause slipping. By the way, don’t be scared of the Briggs. It’s the only Wheel Horse engine I’ve never had to work on or rebuild.
-
2 pointsThis topic has been discussed many times. I personally spoke to Cecil Pond about this and he told me that there was no official Wheel Horse red. So I believe that the consensus here on Red Square is that what color red you choose is your Wheel Horse red!

2 pointsThe fuel tanks under the seat came about in 1978 I believe. My C141 has the plastic tank under the seat.
-
2 pointsThe first under the seat gas tanks and rubber motor mount tractors were the 1978-79 C-series.
-
2 pointsFYI, the B-100's were only made from 1974 through 1977. I have two B-100's in my collection. In my humble opinion, it's one of the best looking tractors in the Wheel Horse line-up. The B-100 pictured in my avatar is a 1977 and was painted with Kirker single-stage acrylic urethane. The color is Flame Red. As long as you paint it red, there's no "paint police" that will site you for using the wrong shade. Please do post some pictures.

2 pointsI can tell how much you guys love your kids. It’s easy to see. Jeremy’s daughter came and cruised his gt14 around all day friday. Smiles from ear to ear. While my dad wasn’t there physically, he was there riding around with me. Maybe one day my son will come up with me if he can get off work.
-
2 pointsIt's like we talked Steve, our boys are the reason we do everything. We both love our horses, but there's nothing like the bond between a father and son. I spent two days straight working on Emory's 633 so he could ride it. I chased the last gremlin down just as the cruise started and off he went. It was awesome talking with you, looking over your rj, and getting pointers. Thanks so much for the fenders for the Ole girl! I wasn't kidding about wanting to get up to your place for one of your meet and greets. Keep on enjoying time with Bo!
