20 pointsI bought this tractor a little while back for $50 from my neighbor that was moving out of state. It had been stored for over 15 years and had 211 hours on it when I bought it from him. The machine came with a nice snow plow, mower deck and wheel weights, but the engine wad bad. It took some time to gather all the parts I needed to get it back up and running, but i'm satisfied with the results. I had to replace the 2 front tires, repair the engine, it was ran out of oil by his son. I had to replace pistons, rods, new rings and a crankshaft and now it runs like new. It still needs a little more work to be complete, the pulley covers on the mower deck need replaced and I plan to change oil in the tranny come spring. I also did some touch up paint work on a few places that needed it. This is my 3rd horse and it hopefully will last a few years.because there is nothing today that comes close to what these machines are. Just thought I would share my last project with the members here.

13 pointsWell I've had my eyes out looking for a decent deal on a Commando 8 for some time. I really like those 8 hp kohler engine's. I finally got what I was looking for and a little more. I was able to work out a deal on a Horse, Blade, Deck and 55 lb wheel weights and chains. Doesn't appear to be hacked up and looks like its all their. So another project in the line....

9 pointsWas finally able to get the ole girl out for some sunshine. Had a very late night / early morning Saturday night / Sunday morning. Was able to get the loader to work as it should. The pulley seal wasn't even in and just spinning on shaft. Bought a new seal and installed it. Waiting on choke and throttle cables now.

8 pointsDid a little swap this weekend, Took the 14hp out of the GT14 I just picked up and put it in my Charger10. Tecumseh 10hp needed a new stater, This went together perfect, still have to clean up the wiring and run new gas line, but she's up and running. I think I'm going to leave the GT14 intake, I like the way it sticks out the side

5 pointsClarence another neighbor who has farm property with a whole sheet load of old lawn and garden tractors that people have dropped off over the years has managed a small collection of 100 series John Deere garden machines. Looks like we'll have a project rebuilding the hydro from his Deere 140 in the spring. He also has a Ford Jubilee These images are not his tractors but used only as reference.

5 pointsHere are a couple videos of it working for the first time First video of it running and moving First video of it working

4 pointsPut my “rusty parts” I got from @953 nut on the 953. Trying to keep this one mostly original. Richard was kind enough to swap me some original parts for my painted parts. My brother n law toted them up and met him close to his hometown. Going to look great in it’s original skin tones.👍

4 pointsI’ll take this time to point out that I DO have a new trans filter for this, once fab work is finished up I’ll clean things up and change the oil.

4 pointsThe Lubiplate 105 grease comes in a hand squeeze tube and easily fills through the drain plug. Some oil from it may leak out when you open the plug but the majority of the grease will stay. I just keep topping it off once each year. Only takes a couple minutes so not sure you really need to "Zerk it". Doubt you can use it through a grease zerk anyway unless you find something else to use for a grease gun loading tube. Thick wheel bearing type grease can get pretty stiff in freezing temps so not sure about using that. I've seen plenty of gearboxes loaded with regular thick grease but none which uses a worm gear inside. I only decided to use it because I was too lazy to pull it all apart and fix the seals. Then just stuck with it because the problem was solved. If you have new seals you should just go with the gear oil as it's designed. Curious if any other guys like using this stuff or if they have had any issues. No problem for me and been using it in the same blower gearbox for years. It gets worked hard every year too.

4 pointsI paid $450 for mine over 10 years ago. Guess it could stand some paint. I had to add the casters as i use mine on grassy uneven areas. Does yours have all the mounting frame and the electric lift? These things are heavy and very very difficult to mount. It has been on the C175 continuously (my first dedicated tractor implement pairing) even though she is only used a few hours a year in the spring to sweep the driveway out of the yard and put the township road back on the road. Beats the heck out of raking....

4 pointsI made up a box break of sorts to use in my 20 ton press. Not too professional, but it gets the job done. The upper piece in the photo has 1/2" pipe to provide a rounded bend, but a piece of angel iron cut to size for your internal bend would give a good sharp bend.

4 pointsI worked on my sons 1077 that's in the garage. It was missing all the parts to hook up the throttle cable to the governor. I have a old parts tractor out back and was able to steal the parts from it. Found out the throttle cable has been shortened at some point in its life. I will need to find a new one. I also found the choke cable I had stashed away (amazing how parts just seem to disappear when you need them). Unfortunately it's missing the nut for the back side. Back to the drawing board. A certain 7 year old will be happy once it's all done.

3 pointsI finally got Emory’s Work Horse 100%. New carb made it start easy and purr like a kitten! Even his headlights work😁. He bought what we were told was a 603 at the show last summer and it took the efforts of several folks to get it going so Emory could ride it in the rain! Now, I’ve got to put on a fuel pump so it doesn’t run out of gas going up hill. It originally had a Tillotson updraft carb on it, carter now. I’ve sealed the gas tank and need to clean it up good to give it a coat of clear and paint the wheels. He wants to keep it original looking. I took a picture of the serial number. Is this in fact a 603 or a tractor that was repowered and made into a 603? It had 633 on the belt guard. Doesn’t matter either way, but I’ll probably let Emory think it’s a 603 even if it isn’t. That was the reason he wanted it so badly. I’ll do some pics as I go, but it isn’t going to be as involved as his Work Horse. Next up is a project for me - cleaning and painting up the D160 I got at the show last summer.

3 pointsBall end mill to make the groove, then clamped it to a bench, and clamped a thicker piece of steel to the “tab” needing bending for the front. The sides I pushed down against the bench with the box upside down and the rear, with the front tacked up I clamped some OSB to the back of the panel and lifted it up. Worked pretty slick, just had to move clamps and my force a bit with the wide pieces. It wasn’t too difficult, I’m glad for the grooves for sure!

3 pointsNice tractor. My wife has one also. I love how they feel driving them. I guess I should probably dig hers out so she can use it this winter.
-
3 pointsI did start messing with the small cylinders but it rotated the whole blade up. While I was looking at a different attachment point I thought of the cable. The cable attaches to both sides of the blade and with a little pull turns pretty well. Ed, I do appreciate you thinking of my safety but the only time I will be holding the cable is when I change blade directions. I did a dry run today and think it will be ok. If I do choose to do something else I will probably go with a small cylinder that would attach to the blade.

3 pointsWelcome to Redsquare !! I can't help you with what you're looking for because my tractors are all manual transmissions but others will be along soon that can help you. Have no concern about your bad English. We speak English everyday and screw it up much more than Google translator could possibly do it......

3 pointsRichard I was thinking of using some vertical force to do the bending, but believe it or not I don’t have an arbor press. It’s one of my bucket list tool items. I thought about using some other hydraulic force, like the in floor hoist, but decided that’s too risky! I like the design of your brake though... maybe some day I’ll build one too!

3 pointsI've switched over to using blue see through line I bought from Lincoln at A to Z tractor. I have also used tygon but it's pricey. I like to be able to see the fuel moving.

3 pointsYou’re such a good dad . Remember I’m still up for adoption and come with at least ten tractors plus a hoard of round hood parts .

3 pointsHe is. I busted my shin on his trailer hitch today. It came with a big home made bar in the hitch. Every time I take it out he puts it back.

2 pointsHopefully it will run as good as it looks. Appears to be in decent shape anyway. I have 2 Commandos, and if I came across another one, I'd have it too. Those short frames are great tractors.

2 points@wallfish @elcamino/wheelhorse @Mows4three @Sarge Others.... I ended up finding two that were pretty interesting to me. I won't have them in my hands for a couple weeks. One of them is a Foley Belsaw model 327 sharpener. We'll keep that on hand for putting a good Edge on scissors, knives, axes, etc etc. I found a much larger and more powerful one as well. Pictured below.

2 pointsNice I just was looking at one yesterday on the "list" in really good condition. Trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger on it. Looking at yours make's me want it even more.....My wife is going to disown me lol. Nice looking tractor even better doing all the work yourself.

2 pointsJoan Yes the pulley and spacer are a common Item but the 155 arm you will have to make. Dan @Achto has a 1076 and might be able to get you the measurements to make one. You can also try emailing http://a-ztractor.com/ as he or others here may have a parts tractor. Others will be along to welcome you and hopefully help out.

2 pointsI got my FEL adapted and l’m now all set to plow, just need some snow. All I need to add are the chains. Since my driveway is concrete I decided to go with rubber chains. The 1/16” black plastic coated wire rope is my “ low tech” solution for changing the angle on the blade. Next project is adapting the tiller.

2 pointsSo Kev Listen, I'm a helpful guy It's what I do. I help people. I just want you to know that if your woman is not 100% ecstatic with that tool box I'll be happy to take it off your hands. In fact, why take a chance on it??? why don't you just go ahead and throw that thing in a box and send it over here to Maine and I'll put it on some kind of tractor that I haven't even built yet.

2 pointsI have cut slightly into the metal with a cutoff wheel to where it would bend, make the bend, tack the corners and then go back and fill the cut with weld. As long as it is not a load critical piece I don’t think it would be a problem.

1 pointYer gettin robbed Chris.. 1.90 here ...I thought it was just an old-fashioned gas war local here. Guess it's just like that all over the country. I remember when I was a kid my Dad used to say there was a gas war going on.... 25 cents a gallon was a good price!
