Sorry about the long post but here is the latest update on Scottie’s recovery!!!! Chapter 2 Day 1 Scottie arrived home on Sunday around 2 pm. He was greeted by his 3 puppies and his older brothers! Once we got Scottie situated and in his new bed he fell asleep since the trip home was exhausting. Scottie had his normal visitors later in the evening. Which helped him being more comfortable at home. Chapter 2 Day 2 Well Scottie was up again last night with pain in his hip and in his clavicle. He had a hard time going back to sleep but once his medication kicks in he is fine. He has a positive attitude despite what he is going through. We are closely monitoring his urine output and his BM’s. I have to consistently remind him to drink his water and to eat something as there are times he forgets. During the day his normal activity consists of sleeping in until nine, eating when he is hungry, taking his medication, watching movies, repositioning so his bottom don’t break down, playing games, and being apart of our family and seeing who is visiting him for the day. Scottie opened his presents and he was excited to have a Green Bay Packer Christmas. He got a blanket, sweat pants, socks, a banner, and an Aaron Rodgers jersey! Two games to play with when his friends come over, and more clothes from other people. Chapter 2 Day 3 Scottie woke up in pain (6/10) because his stomach hurt and he felt sick. Come to find out he had to pass gas and have a BM. Once he achieved that task, he slowly started to feel better. Scottie had a surprise visitor this morning who brought him his Christmas gift. Jacob (His best friend) came to spend the day with Scottie. Scottie and Jacob played 3-4 different games and watched movies on Christmas Day!

No horsie stuff. But I did find a bag my wife had forgotten about. Turned out it was the first thing she bought this year. I collect toys from my past and managed to find a little metal station wagon I had at an auction. When I got it home and showed it to my wife, I mentioned a little police car I had that I used to play with along with this wagon. All I told her was it was rubber, blue with yellow wheels. She found the exact car on E bay complete with the tear the left fender had that my original one had.

My Christmas gift came in the form of a helping hand. My brother in law helped me refinish my well shed over the “twelve days of Christmas “ vacation. I would have never got this far without his help. Also my daughter’s car puked the engine the weekend before Christmas so when I get that bill I am sure it will be quite a gift.

Nice looking D Pacer... Dan brought me this .. coolest ever, these boxes are supposed to be for keeping our adult beverages handy at shows when we camp... and we do like to camp! Couple of bottles of vino from Gretski and a little of Captain's black did not hurt me at all! These are the handy tho Dan ... I used them a dozen times pulling quick pins today ...handles all full of grease already! Also got this new mailbox from my Clam Lake friends! How cool is this! Mum was the word on the cup Dan... I wanted one too...but I got two more from the grandkids ... what on earth am I gonna do with all these cups Ritchie !?!? I ain't never gonna get one of yours! Tom @Shynon please tell me that pic was from one of my plows?!?

Ok, here’s what we’ve been waiting for! Look at that smile!!!! Turns out the problem was I had an externally resisted coil, even though the box said no external resistor required. Put a new coil on it and she runs. Carb I rebuilt has too much slop around the throttle shaft, so I’m gonna order a new one. Should be all she needs. Engine runs strong with no smoke or noises. Nice!

I called my favorite local hardware store Guy told me he has two different sizes of rope that are specifically pull cord rated. I bought the one that fits quite snug in the whole of the handle... $0.19 a foot. Huge investment. I needed six feet. For those of you that can't multiply that was well over a dollar. I guess I can live with that.

Hi fellas My 195 fried the hour meter, and I'm meticulous with service on it every 15 hours (yes I know, the wiring doesn't reflect that ( it's waiting for a complete do over)), so i needed a new hour meter. I'm kind of a scrooge too, so a new OE one was just too much money in my little head, for a gizmo that basically just count hours. I found this aftermarket unit at a fraction of the cost, delivered to my door for the rediculous cost of 11$ Yes, it looks almost like the OE, and it works well. I ordered two, and have had one just running hours on to test, and it runs flawless after almost 1000 hours. Keeps fairly good track of time too Finish and eye quality is not up to par, but it is a good "almost as good as" choice for the price. Easy to mount with robber grommet and clip on retainer. Easy as one two tree. Thought other scrooges might find this info usable https://www.aliexpress.com/item/6V-80V-DC-AC-Timer-2-Round-Quartz-Hour-Meter-Gauge-for-Car-Marine-Boat-Tractor/32877754498.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dwSGY1N

I brought this home from my parent's this afternoon. Dad bought this new I believe in the spring of 1988. He traded in his 1976 C-160 8-speed, which he also bought new in July of 1976. Both of those tractors were used year round, and both fantastic machines. I don't know which tractor I personally had more working hours on, but it seems like half my childhood was spent on each of them. From mowing in the summer to hauling loads of wood in the fall and endless hours of plowing snow (never with a cab of any kind), these tractors really were dependable workhorses. The 416-8 is all original, and the engine has never been rebuilt (those are the actual hours on the working meter). I believe the head was removed in the mid-late 90's to clean the carbon and adjust the valves. Dad said he had a new carburetor put in a couple years ago as well. She's pretty rough around the edges, but I kind of hate to restore it. It still runs great. I might just fix whats broken and leave it as is.

When I saw Denny Clarke put together his lawn Ranger for his grandkids I told him right away I would like him to put one together for me. He said since his grandkids are really young anyway he could let go of the first one he built and we worked out a deal so I ended up with it. We modified the pulleys so it’s faster in high range and low range. That actually makes it more useful In low range for the little kids to drive it but of course the seven-year-old couldn’t stand driving it that slow so we ended up putting it in high range first gear at about half throttle. He still wanted to go faster but I thought that was fast enough. It is an unbelievably nice little tractor. I added fluid to the rear tires because I actually use it alot myself to do work. After I did that it felt even lighter on the front end so I built a front bumper out of some bar scraps I had. It added about 25 pounds. Terry was nice enough to make me a 3/4 scale set of Lawn Ranger letters for the bumper. From the angle in the picture the lawn Ranger letters actually look the same size as the one on the belt guard but it is actually smaller.

I didn’t get anything Wheel Horse related, but I got plenty to use in conjunction with them. New shop stool, work light, echo dot for music and light control, and a sign to let everyone know just who’s shop it is. Got a new coffee mug too, it’s the most accurate cup I’ve ever owned 😂

The seat is pretty bad. I think he just put a cover over it, but the rail on the underside is broken on the one side. I have so many memories of taking the C-160 through the woods hauling wood home. Countless afternoons and Saturdays working with my dad, hauling water to the back pasture for our steers, and spreading manure with a small ground driven spreader. They really feel like a part of my childhood. Always started up, and ran like a top! Good memories...

I have been using this protectant for years , https://www.amazon.com/303-30382-Protectant-plastic-finished/dp/B0185PU38A#customerReviews it will make just about anything you put it on look fresh. your wheel horse will instantly look much better , especially all its vinyl and black surfaces . how about the black plastic trim on your car / truck ? just about every time I see another horse , the glairing thing to me is how simple it is to make that look like its cared for. example , a magnum motor with all its air cowling , those satin black surfaces will look like new , with a simple application. just something I do , its easy, pete

@shallowwatersailor, Had the Dolmars (5105 with 20" bar and 540 with an 18" ) back out had a pretty big yellow locust (almost as tall as this big wild cherry tree) on the property line next to my red tractor shed that started worrying me after the ice storm last month so this morning it took a tumble away from my shed also started on the ice storm clean up as well.

Had a similar conversation with my wife about trucks the other day. We have a 00 f350 cclb with a 7.3 also known as the dinosaur. She was commmeting how loud and slow it it so I told her to go price out a newer similarly optioned truck. Somehow she’s just fine with the dinosaur being used as the tow rig it was built to be. Might not be the prettiest, fastest or the best but it does it’s job.

I have two Farmall Cubs, a '47 (first year of the Cub), and a '50. Things to look for are things like a cracked steering bolster. Check for cracks on the engine mount areas, torque tube, spindles, etc. Check to see if there are leaks around the front crank seal, final drives, transmission, etc. Check for play in the steering. Check the turning brakes and brakes in general. Tires are expensive, especially the rear tires, so check the condition of those. Does it have the touch control hydraulics, which is nice if you plan to use the tractor? Or is it manual lift? Any implements or attachments, which can be expensive to buy? Does it still have the original 6V system or has it been converted to 12V? If converted, was it done properly. If not, be sure the negative cable is to the positive terminal. Some of these things will require the tractor to be split apart, which you will need the proper tools and equipment when splitting, and also the proper tools to remove the crank pulley. You can cause damage to the pulley and engine if you don't have the proper tools for this, and if you don't have the know how and the proper tools for supporting the tractor if needs to be split, can be dangerous. These are great tractors, but for a 70 year tractor, things will wear out, and other things and repairs may not have been done properly and with the right replacement parts. For instance, on my '50, I change the oil and the oil filter, and the previous owner had substituted the wrong filter and had to jerry rigged something to take of the space inside the filter housing. Also, wiring was a mess and the 6V system was backwards, the tractors if still with the original 6V system are positive to ground. Here is a video (not mine) of some things to look for. It's a bit long, around 20 or so minutes, but it's worth a watch. Also, register and visit www.farmallcub.com. If you register there and have two posts, you can download manuals they have there. Yesterday, since it was so nice out, I cleaned out the garage and took some pictures of my Cubs.

We just got home from our Christmas rounds today. We are all pooped, but Emory felt like playing with his cousins and my uncle today. He had a lot of fun, but seems a little more tired than normal. His new medicine makes him tired and can cause some dizziness. He has taken all of this like a trooper. He broke my heart when he told me he was trying to tell me he was ok, but his body and mouth wouldn’t work as he was coming out of the seizure! I’m very proud of the character that he shows and the way he handles things!

I wire brushed and ground all the rust off of the dash plate. I didn't think to take a before close up of it but you can see in the first post if you zoom in that it was basically a piece of rust. This thing almost looks too good to coat over the way it is now. Maybe @Vinylguy Terry has some see-through decals? I really am about half inclined to just throw a coat of clear over this.

Thanks Paul...I know that I am not always right...you guys would not love me if I was. It makes cents, since, sense that Wheel Horse would have put that spring in if it would have made an 8 pinion differential Limited Slip...it does not...that is why the 10 pinion, floating, pinion differential. I know it is hard to picture, I'm not sure I get it my self, but the limited slip is not a "posi-traction"...it is some thing that when you have one tire slipping the other tire will try to grab. The other thing to remember about limited slip...you have to be going in a straight direction. It is not meant to function when turning. The differential will act like a differential if you are turning...not like a LS. You need a 10 pinion differential, with a good spring to have the Limited Slip...end of story.

Ladies and gentlemen what we have here is a farming implement that was built before a time when man was capable of melting metal. Ironically enough, the discovery of the ability to melt metal happened on a tractor similar to this one when the farmer left his favorite chunk of iron ore on his equipment and it burned down leaving only ashes and a puddle of metal.

I would fill both rear tires. Windshield washer fluid is 8.34-8.5 pounds per gallon. Liquid Ballast Comparison Table Type Cost Freeze Resist Weight vs. Water Safe? Availability Water free none +0% very safe wide Calcium Chloride low/high* -50F +40% corrosive wide Ethylene Glycol Antifreeze medium -40F +0% toxic wide Propylene Glycol Antifreeze high -40F +0% safe wide Windshield Washer Fluid low -20F +0% toxic wide Methanol medium -15F +0% very flammable wide Beet Juice very high -35F +30% very safe dealer network Polyurethane Foam/Flat Fill very high +20-50% very safe dealer network *using CaCl2 is low cost if containment tubes are already available and installed, otherwise this is a high cost option Water Water has been used as ballast inside the rear tires of tractors operated in warmer climates for years. In geographical locations where freezing occurs, an additive is necessary to prevent the water from becoming an ice block inside the tire. Ballast that does freeze inside the tractor will make those tires unstable and general operation of the tractor unsafe. Water is the least expensive form of liquid ballasting and weighs 8.3lbs per gallon. Advantages readily available no cost safe to use – non-toxic, non-flammable easy to install into tires Disadvantages not suitable for cold climates Calcium Chloride Calcium chloride, CaCl2, in powdered form can be mixed with water to produce a liquid that will resist freezing up to -50F, depending on the strength of the concentration. Calcium chloride weighs about 11.5lbs/gallon mixed, so more ballast weight is achieved in the same volume, allowing a heavier ballast. This type of liquid ballast is a highly corrosive mixture so care must be taken in handling this product. CaCl2 should be installed into tubes regardless of whether or not the tire on the tractor is tubeless. Without being contained in a tube the mixture will rust the rim flange area right out. Advantages easily obtained in large quantities high weight/volume ratio (almost 40% more than water alone) very high freeze resistance Disadvantages care taken when used – corrosive mixture must be installed into tubes – extra cost if installed without tubes corrosion/rust of the rim will occur puncturing a tire filled with CaCl2 will spray rust-causing mixture everywhere, damaging sheet metal and vegetation A typical 50lb bag of calcium chloride with inset image showing powder consistency. Ethylene Glycol Antifreeze Antifreeze, mixed 50/50 with water, and installed into your Kubota’s rear tires, will provide the same amount of weight per gallon as water and will resist freezing to approx -40F. Ethylene glycol antifreeze is classified by Canada’s Environmental Protection Agency as hazardous waste after it reaches the end of its useful life. Care must be taken when disposing of this type of ballast – and in the case of a tractor tire, there will be a lot of mix to deal with. Advantages easily obtained in large quantities high freeze resistance safe to mix – non-flammable but is toxic if ingested Disadvantages hazardous to the environment, animals and people – care must be taken regarding its disposal could get costly if your only source is 1 gallon jugs at a Walmart Propylene Glycol Antifreeze Propylene glycol is known as a non-toxic or people/animal friendly antifreeze. Besides its antifreeze properties, it is actually used in many cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, shampoos and as a food additive. Dow, who manufacturers 35% of the world’s supply of of propylene glycol, reports that in the United States, 22% of production is used for antifreeze or de-icing. When installed into your tires as a ballast in a 50/50 mix, expect similar properties to ethylene glycol, high freeze resistance with ballast weight similar to that of water alone. AMSOIL makes this type antifreeze available by the gallon or 55 gallon drum. Advantages easily obtained in large quantities high freeze resistance safe to humans, animals and vegetation, non-flammable, non-toxic and biodegradable Disadvantages more costly than plain old toxic ethylene glycol – sources we used, quoted prices of 33%-120% more per gallon Windshield Washer Fluid Washer fluid, installed right from the jug is freeze protected to about -20F and provides about the same ballast weight properties as water does. Washer fluid has some of the same chemicals in it that antifreeze does, but at milder concentrations. Disposing of gallons and gallons of washer fluid, as in the case of tire ballast, would require care. Advantages easily obtained in large quantities low cost adequate freeze resistance no mixing required – use as is, non-flammable but is toxic Disadvantages hazardous to the environment, animals and people – care must be taken regarding its disposal Methanol Methanol is highly flammable and if you decide to use this product it must be mixed with water to make it so you do not blow yourself up while mixing it, installing it, or driving your tractor with it in there. Depending on strength of mixture, methanol and water is good to around -15F temperatures. We are not recommending the use of methanol and water because of the danger – but it is an option available for tire ballasting. Advantages easily obtained in large quantities adequate freeze resistance Disadvantages extremely flammable mixing required with water hazardous to the environment, animals and people – care must be taken regarding its disposal Beet Juice Beet juice, a liquid byproduct made from de-sugared sugar beets. This food grade product is available in the US under the trade and brand name, RimGuard. This liquid weighs about 30% more than straight water and resists freezing to about -35F. Best of all, it will not solidify until the temp drops to -50F. Natural, non-corrosive, safe to the environment and humans. If beet juice is available in your location, we believe this your best bet – safe to use and provides extra ballast weight. Advantages high weight/volume ratio (about 30% more than water alone) very high freeze resistance anti-rust properties a natural product – environmentally friendly and safe Disadvantages may not be available in all locations Polyurethane Foam/Flat Fill This ballast method is essentially a run-flat polyurethane fill that is injected into the tire through the valve stem. Two liquid components are pumped into the tire and they react with one another so that 24-36 hours later, you are left with a solid rubber core – the air inside the tire is completely displaced. The term “foam” is a bit misleading – the core is actually very much a black solid. It is sometimes called foam because air bubbles are injected into the mix to control the density of the end product. This ballast method obviously adds serious weight gains to each tire and also has the nice benefit of eliminating flat tires and associated repair costs. Because the tire is run-flat there is no risk of corrosive/toxic ballast spraying all over your tractor and scorching vegetation if you do spring a leak. You will have to find a dealer near you that performs this service (Brannon Tire in Stockton, California for example). Advantages high weight/volume ratio (about 20-50% more than water depending on type of fill) cannot freeze tire is run-flat simple – have it done once, ballasted forever Disadvantages may not be available in all locations high cost – prices range around $0.95-1.25 lbs injected, or $300+ per tire tire must be cut off rim after tread wears out – best for new or nearly new tires if performed on steering tires, heavy duty weight gains will put more stress on steering components no air in tires to absorb humps and bumps so you will get a very rough ride – could be jarring for long distance travel
