Took a while, but finally done. Now there are two. Thanks to Terry at REDOYOURHORSE.COM, high quality decals to give it that finished look. Wasn't quite ready for the scrap yard yet. Three biggest problems were a broken connecting rod in the engine, cobbled, spliced and bypassed wiring and what looked like a busted battery sometime in the past (lots of rust), probably from freezing. Sorry, no pictures before I started.

After several weeks of going back and forth with the owner, I planned to setup picking up another horse a few states away! After 1800 miles/ 29 hours of driving round trip straight through(CT to MI). Having to deal with heavy snow, rain and just overall bad driving conditions with a few stops for food and drink....I now have a second 1045 added to my fleet! I will get more pictures in the morning

Any ideas what would cause this stack to get white hot and belch flames ? I leaned out the low idle fuel jet. Checked the exhaust valve. Compression is good. The strange thing is, It only happens in December And at night. VID_20181223_170638.mp4

Added 52 pounds of weight to the inside of the wheels. It slipped a few times last snow and I’m thinking this will help.

12:35 am. Stopping for a few hours. Tomorrow looks like putting the tin back on, seat on, floor boards, pto setup, and decals. Then comes the fun of cleaning up the mess I’ve made. You’d die @WHX21! Here are a few shots I took earlier tonight. The last one shows how much I had to stretch the upper pto mount to fit the Kohler - it was on the Briggs. All the engine needs is gas and a whole lot of luck!

I worked on converting a generator engine into a tractor engine for a project that I'm working on. An engine designed for a generator or pressure washer will usually be equipped with a tapered PTO shaft. An adapter shaft can be purchased on , although I have to say that I was not entirely impressed with the quality of the one that I received. The engine that I'm working with had a non typical tapered shaft, as it was longer & had multiple steps to it. These multiple steps were not really adapter friendly & need some adjusting. Starting from the end of the shaft after the taper the OD was 7/8", perfect for the adapter. Unfortunately it did not maintain the OD for the distance needed for the adapter. The next step on the shaft was 1", this size was of no use to me at all. The 3rd step was 1.146 again of no use to me. I did not want to tear a perfectly good engine down to change the crank or machine it down soo.... I used what my Machinist friend calls a redneck lathe. Start the engine , grab a 4.5" grinder, a file & some emory cloth and go to town. After I was finished the second step was gone & the 3rd step was turned down to 1 1/8". All with in .005" Slide the adapter shaft on. I choose to use a triple pulley simply to cover as much of the adapter and empty gap as I could.

Pops 69 f100 unfortunately it is mine now. He passed back in September. We put a 460 and a c6 transmission in it and it demands respect no power and drum brakes all the way around. My oldest daughter wanted to drive boy was that a fun trip

That is the problem! When the fuel mixture is not rich enough the result is that luminus flux, a measure of total quantity of visible light emitted by a source, is increased at an exponential rate with each turn of the idle screw. This phenomenon is known as the I'm yanking your chain effect.

I wish you all a merry Christmas and and a happy New Year. I'm not so long in here in the Forum, but i feel warmly Welcome. I know, my little Tractor was not a real tractor for the most here or an eyecatcher, especially because it was just a bended sheet frame. - but hey - i have a lot of Fun with it and it works for me. At my time in this forum, i developed a stronger "need" for an bigger one (squint sometimes for a C -Series or similar) but here in Germany, they're hard to find. Especially for a reasonable price. Yap - You're Right, I have no really need for, but it's better to have, than to need...... 😎 Thanks all for that warmly Welcome. I feel comfortable in this Forum and this was an issue i like. All wishes (like new tractors or so on) shall be comin thru, best Convalescent prayers to all who needs, and hopefully a lot of new positive Stories with and on the Wheel Horses in the following year. Thanks for being here and let me participate on such a great Forum. Stefan

I’ll definitely admit I have a problem and wouldn’t want it any other way...so maybe it’s not a problem just a addiction 😂😂 in and out overnight! Even had a rental so it wouldn’t be traced back to my house HAHA Thank you!

Thanks Richard! I was so tired when I quit last night that I overlooked that! I would have been saying a few choice words wondering why it wouldn’t start and trying to figure out what was wrong! Time to go back again! Fingers crossed I’ll get her done today!

You might consider changing to a synthetic 10W-30 for the transmission/transaxle. I used Mobil 1 10W-30 in each of my three former 5xi and it improved cold weather performance. It also comes in a five quart jug which makes it convenient as the refill takes 4.5 quarts.

I bought it in 1983, Mars Hill, Maine. Drove it to Caribou, ME. Took it apart, sandblasted cab, body and wheels. Took it to a friends body shop, dad and I had to make cab mounts, supports, floors, corners. Bought a new radiator support from Ford. Painted with acrilic enamel with hardener, Wimbledon white, Rangoon red. Rebuilt the engine and brakes, wire brush and zinc chrome-mate the frame. Two years later the white paint would rub off when I was washing it. Dad passed away in 2000. Mom sold the house in Caribou, moved here. 2008 I took it apart again. Rebuilt engine, installed overdrive. Took hood, fenders, doors, tailgate, toolbox, to a local body shop for base coat clear coat. Wire brushed frame ,painted black. Rebuilt engine stock, added a aluminum ford 4 barrel intake and a 4100 carb auto choke. Picked up parts at body shop. Truck was drive able, ramp truck delivered to body shop to paint inside and out of cab and body. Ramp truck delivered to me I put it back together 2008, while working for MeDOT full time. Mom and I would use it In parades and car shows, and grocery's. Mom passed in 2015.

You said it, Jim. Didn't get any workshop time yesterday, as I took SWMBO down to her sisters. When I went in this morning, there was another pool of oil under the tractor. Just a small one this time. I thought at first the sump gasket was leaking, but after removing the engine and fitting a new gasket, with gasket sealer, the leak was still there. Just a weep. On closer inspection I found it wasn't the gasket but a hair line crack by one of the bolts. How that had happened I don't know. Perhaps I'm stronger than I think. Heavy handed I'm not as a rule. Degreased and cleaned up the sump, but could not see where the crack was. I have some two part epoxy metal replacement stuff, which I have used on a petrol tank with success. So thought I'll give it a try. It got two choices. It'll work or it won't. I nipped up to the farm and used to acet' torch to heat things up and get rid of any remaining contamination. Doing this the crack was plain to see, as the heat drove oil out of the crack. Tomorrow I'll apply the metal replacement, put the sump back on, fill with oil and leave the engine on the bench. We'll see what happens.

I use a piece of threaded rod with a washer bolted on the end, with the outer bearing removed insert the washer end down the axle tube. Insert the washer in the gap behind the bearing and hammer on the end of the threaded rod sticking out the axle tube.

Thanks Joette for the update That is a great Merry Christmas present. So glad that Scottie is able to be home for the holidays. Can’t wait to see a pic of him enjoying Christmas in his own environment May God continue to bless you over the Christmas season!

Last night Scottie was fever free!!! Praise the Lord!!! However, he experienced more pain during the night. He has some fractured ribs that is causing him pain and his pelvic area was hurting him along with his legs. As long as we stay on top of his pain, he does fine. Ok so now we are going to start a new chapter of Scottie’s recovery as we are going home tomorrow. Please pray that he continues to get stronger and he heals mentally and physically. We also ask for prayers to make our family a stronger unit and that we rally around Scottie to heal. Our next chapter will be a long road but with God by our side we can do anything!

So Scottie is still having his fevers at night and the team is thinking that they are caused by the hematoma in his pelvic area. They want to make sure before we leave that they covered all basis. Scottie has started therapy and he has mastered the sliding board, right foot pivot transfer and getting in and out of a vehicle. Lowell and I have learned how to assist him with his transfers and his daily activities. We have the hospital bed at home and tomorrow (Saturday) we will be getting his wheel chair, commode, and sliding board. With the help from God, maybe we can be home for Christmas! I want to apologize for not updating you for a couple of days but I have been learning how to care for Scottie and sleeping when I can, so I can be strong for Scottie.

I'm an old grandpa of three boys and we like old garden tractors. I just bought our first WH. A C-160 8 speed, Kohler powered. I got it for just a little above current scrap metal value. It is missing a few pieces including the carb, deck, seat/pan & fenders, and RH running board. I know someone that has a carb and deck. Meanwhile I can borrow a carb off of another Kohler engine I have to try out this engine. I did get the mule gear with the tractor. I plan to restore it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

I stopped looking further than 125 miles. I know on the map it always looks so close! It is a lot of fun planning those trips especially if you got a good co-pilot. I had a guy drive over alone, from Ohio, to pick up a deck in his car. Looked pretty tired when he showed up. I felt his pain. I threw in a couple front wheels, and spindles for one of his other projects as a consolation bonus!

Thanks Craig! Every time I say I’m done buying or need to sell off some I guess more keep hopping on the trucks but can’t complain! I ended up going with Bill that you know as well!(let me just say he wants no part of a road trip ever again 😂) and thank you! jabelman, the machine was actually produced in late 1964. They were only made for a couple months. I would assume that’s where the “45” came from in 1045. Considering the 1045 was based off half on a 854 too. There are a lot of details that make the 1045 stand out from the other short frames. Like you mentioned being transition model with square hood and round fenders, also having the correct k241 10 hp with shallow oil pan, the front tires were also meant for the 1045 but I know of someone who also has them that originally came on a 1075, the belt guide on engine for drive belt is specific to 1045, and the square seat pan that is used on other round fender machines is found on the 1045. I’m sure there is other details I am missing but there is a short run down for you

Very good news. I’m still praying for your family. Joette from talking with you at the Big Show you know my situation . My personal experience if anyway possible an adjustable memory foam bed is the way to go. It’s been a saving grace with my recovery (never had a bedsore) and should ease some of the pain from pressure points.

Managed to get a fair bit done today. One or two hiccups, but not a bad day. Got the engine painted and it dried quite quickly. It's now back in place. Next job was to refit the drive belt. Here was boo boo number 1. As you can see from the first photo' the bottom run of the belt is UNDER the brake pedal when it should be over the TOP. Footplate loosened, brake connecting rod disconnected and pedal moved out. Belt was then fitted and everything now as it should be. I then moved onto the P.T.O.. Here was boo boo number 2. I found I couldn't connect the support bar to the shaft end. The hinge was fouling the shaft end. Took everything off again and I found I could knock the drive pulley further onto the shaft. Only by 1/16" but that was enough. I refitted the fuel pump and governor linkage next, then thought it would be a good idea to fill the engine with oil. That done I decided to have a tidy up. Looking round at the tractor to admire my handy work I saw it. Boo boo number 3. A big puddle of OIL under the tractor. The engine has a tube running from where the drain plug would be, to one side of the tractor for draining the engine oil. I'd forgotten to FIT IT. Muppet!
