10 pointsGot it all home.... it’s still in the trailer, it’s going to get unloaded tomorrow.
-
9 pointsFound this in the scrap yard it was on an old bready front mount plow I hooked it up behind my c-141 works good not sure if I'll ever use it but it looks kind of cool hanging off the back of the tractor
-
9 pointsSomething about a nice rear end... I almost got slapped real good one time, with my (then) girlfriend (Mrs. Pullstart) by pointing out that nice body in a parking lot in San Dimas, California. It was a rust free S-10, like her’s back home. I quickly heard what I said and started explaining what I meant to say... now it has become our inside joke.

8 pointsThis is a pet project of Scott Mehlberg. @whfan74 & Kudos! https://timesuniononline.com/MobileContent/Local-News/Local-News/Article/Harrison-Tractor-Club-Receives-Support-/2/453/116668?fbclid=IwAR0I-K51RLYXmQfmA6mx1vTSNkF7gmAbLbl9WgmReru1AOTRNXRp5hB3viU

7 pointsThanks Richard, I think that helped. Came right out, in all fairness it's on a 1997 garage kept 416 with 230 hrs. Been soaking it with In- Force for a few days, put the punch on my hammer drill, hit it a few times it moved, a few more times and it came right out.

7 points1) Bring your Mash Pole sign! 2) Visit the Gettysburg Visitor's Center to get good information and the great museum and the cyclorama! 3) Take the family to the Blue and Grey Restaurant and Bar downtown Gettysburg. 4) Bring plenty of rainn gear too! 5) Be ready for a lot of Wheel Horse fun!

6 pointsA few guys might have to sell off their WH collections to have a shot at this tool for restoration purposes, but it would make surface rust seem like mere house dust. The way new technology usually becomes cheaper over time (sometimes fairly short periods of time), maybe there is hope for something more affordable for personal use down the line. https://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/handheld-laser-cleaner/

6 pointsGonna go pick up the 1974 C160 w/rear discharge deck, a front blade, an aerator, mid and rear cultivator, wheel weights /chains, and a MacKissic hammermill chipper/shredder that is made to attach to the tractor! The lady I am getting it from is giving me the tractor for having helped her with several things (including getting the tractor running), but I will pay her for the attachments (or she might be open to bartering for my future handyman services.... I hope, I hope, I hope!!!) Her husband passed away about this time last year. We all met when he was in hospice and was in a room next to another friend of mine. We talked a lot about garden tractors and gardening. His wife says I remind her a lot of her late husband..... lots of shared traits, I guess. She is happy that I will be keeping the Wheel Horse in good condition and will keep using it to garden. Got my 6x10 trailer emptied this morning, got a good battery and jump box, a gas can, and ramps loaded. But first..... need to continue my “nurse” duties..... wife had knee surgery 2 weeks ago..... need to help her with some stuff before I can go play!!!

5 pointsSpeaking of inside jokes: I am a pretty light-hearted person, and I like to tease my wife. Several years ago, she said to me, "You are the wind beneath my wings!" Before I really thought about it, I spoke what popped into my head....... "You are the wind between my cheeks!" We still get a kick out of that one, and my awesome wife catches herself almost saying my version when she means the other.... we crack up all the time!
-
5 points@Razorback You've done well there my friend. You made a new friend in the old lady. You made her happy with the notion that someone will be using and enjoying that Tractor. Likely it keeps his memory on hand for her. You've found a model of Wheelhorse that is extremely capable and very highly desirable to many collectors and those of us that still work the past generations of heavy metal... And a passel of attachments to do everything with it and more. That's a lifetime of machine capability. Awesome find. Absolutely.
-
5 pointsSit down while you read this...... tractor was free (well, except for my labor and handyman skills), gave her $400 for the rest..... and she acted like that was too much! (I think I need to make a post in the “What’s the best deal you’ve ever made?” thread!)

4 pointsjust added a screw on round plastic knob with brass threaded insert to my snow blower chute turn rod , only a matter of threading with die nut on the end of the rod handle. picked up knob at my local true value store, nice smooth improvement. next I added two heavy springs to my blower lift rod , pulling just under the lower front hood area, on frame head , much easier to lift, these assist the back of rod spring. still moving things around to get it like I want. pictures to show

4 points@ztnoo thanks the the kind words. As far as the engine goes, it is an M20 but it has the 1-7/16” cranshaft on it. Can’t find a wheelhorse clutch to fit so I figured it would be a good candidate for a cruiser. Besides she will be pulling a trailer around the yard and you never know when a stump might need yanked out of the ground. I have a blown M18 off a 418-a that I will use the muffler/shroud and tin off of(as on skittles) so it will be factory parts. Also have the grass screen for the flywheel side. Should look kinda “ came that way” hopefully. as far as moving north, North Carolina is as far as I am going.👍

4 pointsUsed to plow in the dark with no lights on a 604 when I was a kid. Snowing like crazy off the big lake. Ah memories!
-
4 pointsI’m just coming in onbtheis project, but I’ll be following along to see where it leads. Like what I see so far. I agree with @pullstart; there’s just something about a nice tail... end.
-
4 pointsNo matter what career those students end up in, they will all have learned a valuable life skill (all disguised as fun working/wrenching on those Wheel Horses).
-
4 pointsGot a bit more done over the last couple of days. That's it for the time being. Give the paint some time to cure then get some wheels on. I can get it off the lift then and that'll give me room to get on with the other parts.
-
3 pointsI dont do much with my herd, other than to put one or two to work when the yard need mowin or snow needs plowing. So their home has been an easy up shed for the past year. Before winter hit I needed to free up some space. I have no garage, but what I do have is a basement with bilco doors. With the aid of a nifty crain like contraption my little suburban found its new home in my basement. Now it waits till I can find a little more time to dedicate to it and its brothers.
-
3 pointsFinally got the hub off (even using the other hub as a puller it still broke) so wound up cutting it off. Got the transmission opened up today...lots of rust and crud from sitting full of water for so long. But so far I think with a lot of cleaning and a few new bearings it can be saved
-
3 pointsGot the C160 out of the trailer, gave the yard the last mow of the season...... I really like the rear discharge deck and it does a great job, but it is much narrower than the 54" deck on my Craftsman PGT9000 that I normally use for mowing. I will probably continue using the PGT9000 for mowing. That way, I can keep the C160 for the garden and for the occasional pushing of snow. This thing runs like a top! Extremely glad to have it! I think it was happy to be in use again! While I was mowing, the temperature continued to drop considerably, to the point of it sleeting/snowing by the time I got everything loaded back in the trailer.

3 pointsIt ran a centrifugal air compressor but was hardly used. They upgraded the equipment and the head guy was a friend of my dad’s and asked me if I wanted it. Uh......sure do! Runs like a sewing machine, just louder 😁

3 pointsLooking better everyday, @19richie66 ! You sure have pulled off some interesting modifications on your projects. Seems like you jump off into the deep end right away, but always find a way to make something work that you envision. That tells me you have a lot of innate mechanical skill and foresight. An M20 is quite the "putt around" engine for your wife to use...... The big thing that helps your prolific modified production projects is your climate. Think about all the things you have been able to accomplish because of where you live. Get north of the Ohio River without lots of garage, shed, or pole barn space, and try "to keep on keepin' on" in "The Winter". You may get a light frost or three or four, and a few chilly damp mornings down there..........but you aren't going to be dealing with snow, sleet, freezing rain, high winds, and sub zero temps. Ever seen -55F chill factors? I have. It isn't pretty. Better find a chair under a palm .....or at least a pine tree down there, and sit down and take that into consideration when you take a break for an iced tea. 🌬️☃️❄️ 🌴🏝️🚜🔧 Regards, Steve

3 pointsI was thinking if i blew a 1533 that there would be a little slop in the rear axle...it is still tight. I think you are right about a gear tooth or part of the hi/low shifter fork came cast adrift and has jammed in something. Got the bad tranny off and hooked up a spare yesterday Tearing into this one will be down the road a bit...other higher priorities right now. Will let everyone know what I do find. Thank you

3 pointsI found some more pics on this link. The little monster playing in the driveway and in the truck is Jada. The day we took those pictures, I knew it will be her truck some day. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=452450 I took some snapshots from the other site to post here, sorry for the choppiness, I was zoomed in a bit. The back window picture of Jada in the driver’s seat is one of my favorite pictures, that was “the one” that told me this will be her truck some day and I’m just the keeper of it for now. the lifted truck was a project, I cut down a long box frame and put this body on it. Here is a link to that build... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=400022

3 pointsFor any of you Facebook users who might want to "follow" this tractor club's activities a bit closer, see the link below. @whfan74 has a great thing going here, teaching practical mechanical skills and manual labor activities to elementary school age kids. Its not just about playing with tractors, but also about the value of work, observation, diagnosing of problems, and the real pride and sense of satisfaction instilled by working through problems and working with one's hands. https://www.facebook.com/HarrisonGTC/

2 pointsYou wouldn't say that if you could see it properly. Managed a couple of hours on the tractor this afternoon. Rear wheels on. Bottom half of tower stripped. Lift lever shaft and centre, part with the arms, refused to part company. But that's not a problem. Some little bits primed.
-
2 pointsNow that's a really useful tool! If I used that on some of the stuff I have had in the past, it would make them totally disappear!
-
2 pointsI think the axle would still feel tight. Remember, that end of the axle is still in an axle gear that fits into the differential casing...the differential may be a little sloppy, but not the axle, and you would have no leverage on the outer end of the axle to find out. I'm not sure you would even have some in and out Paul. I can tell you this...the sound of those balls getting shot sound like a sling shot tossing them around. Almost like a pellet gun shooting at a stop sign.
-
2 pointsPaul, sounds like your differential is OK. That doesn't leave too much. Guessing something broke off and is jamming the gears...sounds like something on the splined shaft. I had a #1533 ball bearing brake loose and it sent 12 ball bearings shooting around looking for a place to hide. Could be something like that...you would still be able to turn the wheels. You can see some of the balls in this picture. I don't mean to say this is what happened, but it is something like this or a tooth that would do what you have.
-
2 pointsCould very well be a helper spring setup. Throw them all on a light colored background and snap a picture and I'm sure somebody on here will be able to tell you what they are for.
-
2 pointsi was originally looking for the 70s and 80s Chevy trucks because i love the look of them. I almost bought a 1971 chevy k20 but it was sold before i got to look at it. When i found the international i just couldn't pass it up, and it was chevy powered so that's good enough for me. Now i'm stuck with a 1961 international rust bucket that parts are very hard to find for It will be a cool truck when i am finished though. I gave LOTS of plans for it, i will just say that

2 pointsWhen you remove the shifter try to do it with it in neutral. There is a donut on the shifter that the dog-point set screw enters. The donut is sometimes welded to the shifter but most have a spiral pin to lock it to the shifter. The pin shares the same hole as the set screw. If that pin shears the shifter will rotate instead of sliding the shift forks. So make sure the donut is solid on the shifter. Garry
-
2 pointsLooking at the back of the tractor, you have a standard 3-speed Uni-Drive transmission. The shift pattern is a sideways H pattern with shifter only moving forward and back in neutral with no resistance. With clutch depressed, move lever back and to the left is reverse, back and to the right is 1st. Move lever forward and to the right is 2nd and forward and to the left is 3rd. It appears the you have an issue where your lever is not being allowed to move forward.

2 pointsLots of cool stuff under the hood. Vacuum operated heat riser, complete with one way check and thermal vac switch. Vac operated heater valve.Hot air choke stat with vac operated pull off. EGR, 2 jet carb. Good old HEI ignition. Mexican (Manual) steering and single master cly.
-
2 pointsRobbie, those old IH trucks will haul a ton without even knowing it is there. My uncle had a '60 half ton that was so stout that you needed to have a load in it just to get a smooth ride!
-
2 points550 hours is nothing for an Onan, IF, and I say IF it was properly maintained. All my P220G engines will give a puff of smoke when started cold and they do use a small amount of oil. Since you want to decarbon, check the bores and measure wear, it also would be a good time to check the valve guides, replace the intake valve seals and adjust the valves.
-
2 pointsI picked this up recently. It’s a 1961 international harvester c120 3/4 ton with a Chevy 350 and a turbo 400. This is my first vehicle and after a lot of time and money this will be my daily driver and my horse hauler.
