My C-125 has seen a lot of work over the seven years or so I've owned it. Mowing the green and verges where I live and towing trailer loads of wood and other stuff. In that time all I've done is replace the head gasket and a stack to replace the rotten exhaust. Also fitted the rear wheels and ag tyres the were on the Black Horse. I've been meaning to strip the engine for some time, as it burns a bit of oil. Richard, (Anglo Traction) had some new surplus engine parts and a carb he'd rebuilt for sale. So they've found their way North and the time has come to give the old girl some attention. It won't be a total strip down of the tractor. I hope! She's a worker not a showgirl. Just a general tidy up and replacement of anything I find needs doing. I may throw some paint at her as well. First off came hood. Followed by seat and fender and wiring disconnected. Also the engine oil was left to drain. This morning I removed the engine and took off the antivibration plate. After draining off the fuel and removing fuel line and tank. Engine and gantry have been pushed on one side. I'm going to tackle the engine at a later date. I want to see too the rest of the tractor first. Foot boards came off next and top half of tower. Steering wheel and column came with it. As you can guess. the pin holding the wheel refused to budge. So this is were I'm up to. Next thing is a good pressure wash then up onto the bench.

I bought this Automatic 10 as a parts machine a couple years ago from an estate sale. Once I cleaned it up and got it running I decided it was too nice to part out so I parked it with the intention of repainting it. Well I got it out Saturday and after looking at it again, I realized it looks as good as the tractors I use all the time. I'm thinking maybe I should just clean it up and leave it as it is??

Pullstart I have some pictures of them but none really show them well. I will try to get some decent pictures of them here in the next few days once the snow melts. These machines are fairly scarce here in Kansas, and shipping on the implements was going to cost a fortune 1 or 2 pieces at a time. I discussed some various options with my wife and we decided if I could find a few items I wanted we would make a trip out of it. She is a sucker for a good road trip. I had spoken with D.J. Harrison (HCMinis) in Indiana a few times about some of his items he had for sale and we came to an arrangment that I could buy a group of items and drive up when he had them all amassed for me. We left SE Kansas on a Thursday morning, and came home on Monday night. Along the way we went to Ozark Missouri and ate at Lambers, St. Louis Missouri to the Missouri Botanical gardens, and Parkers Landing, Coatsville Indiana to pick up the goods from DJ, and we stood on a beach at Indiana State Dunes by Lake Michigan across from Detroit and even had some Giordanos pizza in Chicago. She was a real trooper, driving the whole way. (I have problems falling asleep when I drive). Here is a picture of our haul home and a list of what we picked up as well as some pictures along the way. I dont have the official part numbers for all of them, I really need to make a list of those to help me look for parts and restoration tips on here. 854 Tractor WT-244 tow behind tiller 48" Front Plow Mid Mount Grader Blade Mid and Rear mount Cultivator Rear Garden Plow Disc HY-3 Hydraulic Lift Tub Cart A set of rear Ags on wheels

Lane, You just inspired me. I have 953 # 304. I'll dust it off put in a fresh battery and bring it. Won't be as nice as yours but still an early example. I too am looking forward to the show and having the Wheel Horse brand as the feature.

I'm going to try pushing a 56" D-series blade with my 418-A this year. Since I'm in Denver, the majority of the show I see is light powder so I'm hopeful the tractor will push the blade, and not the other way around.

Hello all, I am starting on my first Wheel Horse rebuild, and first real rebuild of anything like this. I have a decent amount of experience working on things but have not done much to older items so this will be a new adventure to me. Here is the subject for the restoration, a 704 Wheel Horse I found locally on Facebook Marketplace. Originally looking for a RJ or Suburban for my Grandfather but I fell in love with these things along the way and picked up a couple tractors and implements along the way. I'd like to make this into more of a show style tractor to play around on, I have since picked up an 854 and a slew of implements for other tasks. I started this thread to share my progress and also because I could not find all of my answers other places and hope to ask them here where others who may have the same trials and tribulations can see them in the future. Also attached are some photos of the beginning of the tear down process, a picture my wife loves of me on my new horse, and the 653 I bought from the same place. I paid $300 for the two of them together so I dont think I walked away too bad on the deal.

Rah! 😂 I actually deleted my FB right before I stumbled onto this site, and I’ve been starting and ending my day with checking up on it as well. Every other forum I’ve joined in my short 30 years, I’ve been run off by the members, that hasn’t happened here. I’m grateful for that, because I have, and am, learning a lot.

Added a few more to the collection. Cans are full and in great condition.

Growing up, my Grandfather used to say, "If it isn't broke, don't fix it." ..... I recently learned how I misapplied this lesson. A few years ago, I became the 2nd owner of a heavily used, but well maintained 414-8. This thing mowed 4 acres with it's original deck for over 20 years, and plowed the drive. It's mowing duties stopped when the deck was just so worn, it was done, and then it has maintained (in it's last 8 years with the original owner), as a plow tractor in the winter, always being reliable. This guy actually changed the oil at 25 hours or damn near to it, greased it well, cleaned it, etc. I bought the tractor for a song, found a deck and put it back into light duty about 2 years ago. This summer, I noticed a few slight things happening. First, the voltage was reading high after the machine was well warmed. I checked with a volt meter at the battery and confirmed the gauge was right,,,, even though the gauge was bouncing once warm. Running volts were over 16. Later in the summer, on a rare occasion, when trying to start after being warm, it wouldn't roll over. However, if I pulled my leatherman out and bridged the solenoid, it would roll over and start right up. I was thinking solenoid was going bad and voltage regulator, until the other night. I brought the tractor in with a wagon load of firewood behind, unloaded, and it restarted right up. Pulled it into the garage and unhooked the deck, cleaned it thoroughly for the winter, and installed the plow. Went to start it up, and no go. It wouldn't roll over by the key and even jumping the solenoid, it would roll, but would not fire. Started playing around and found I had no spark. In testing, I found if I held the key in the start position, and jumped the solenoid, I had spark. To shorten a long story, I replaced the ignition switch, and every problem has dissipated. Apparently the B terminal on the ignition had corroded so badly that poor power through it was causing a slew of problems, intermittently. Now, even when warm, charging voltage is appropriate, no need to jump the solenoid to start, etc. I was about to do much more, and will eventually just for maintenance, but almost replaced parts that weren't in need of replacing, and wouldn't have helped the problem, because I neglected to look at the obvious for a beast this age, corrosion, on a very crucial part, the ignition switch terminals. Thanks for all that have shared and I have been able to learn from that has helped me enjoy my machine.

@ebinmaine I took a 42" plow and added 6" to each side, making a 54" plow and I used it with my GT-14 with inside the wheel wheel weights. I could also use this with my 520 H, but currently have a 48" on it and am ready for possible snow overnight!

Check the ground wire to the engine from the battery, it is the most overlooked wire on a . Run a large jumper from the battery "+" terminal to the starter electrical connection to see if the starter will turn over. If it will then move the jumper to the starter side of the solenoid to test the cable. If it turns over use a small jumper from the battery "+" to the small wire on the solenoid to see if it will close.

hello stormin, thank you for taking us along on your refresh, in addition to the engine work , first thing I spotted was the opportunity to add a 2 bolt 3/4" flange bearing under your upper dashboard horizontal frame steering column hole area. when its down to that stage its easy to do. I install the bearing on the bottom of shelf because of clearance issues, your dash appears to have more space on top of shelf. found this to totally remove column play, I also shim up inside of steering wheel either side of roll pin with 5 thou shim stock. I sandpaper wheel bore for roll pin and use , never seize as lube. Good luck with the rest of your work, pete

Okay, Thanks All! I am now (very soon) going to make some silly excuse here at the office and run home to test my voltage to the solenoid and then test the sylenoid! You helped me work through that, "Oh crap, I am going to get the stink eye from the Mrs" trauma I was experiencing if I could not get it running in time for the snow! After all, who needs that??!! Luckily, the C160 is old enough there is no fuse panel so I am clear on that one. But I truly appreciate this quick feedback. I am feeling empowered!

I'll be looking forward to this build process. Be sure to ask all the questions you can and the members here will give you any help you need. To place pics in the middle... Leave the cursor where you want the pic to land and select the pic at the bottom from the ones you've uploaded for that thread. Example. I cut/pasted the above sentence, hit enter to make an extra empty line, then plopped the pic in. place pics in the middle... How about a 1997 Ram 2500 4x4. Only 78600 miles. Ordered her from the factory, St. Louis (no longer there) took 3 months to get her. No leaks, no rust. Brought me home 7 WH & a Jacobsen Chief . She's hauled just about everything. Firewood every winter, blocks, bricks, lumber, sand, gravel, furniture, it fits its hauled. Covered bridge is near Sunbury, OH. I'll post a pic of full p/u later. Than there is the one that pays for my toys. Tractor is not old, but the tanker gets rebuilt every 10 years. Some go back to the 80's.

Hey guys, I'm considering a c-195 as an upgrade for my c-175 and was curious what you think it should go for? Haven't looked at it in person yet but looks clean in pics, rear pto and finish mower. Would I be better looking for a 520 or a d series? what should I look out for? Hoping it's an easy swap getting my loader put on it if I go that route. Thanks!

Come to think of it, I’ve got a 16’ Swing Wing plow on the back of the truck, maybe I could pull it with Putt Putt? Just need some big casters and a dry surface!

C-105: 42" stock. No chains. Typical Michigan slop all year. No problem on three driveways... Have thought about adding some to each side - winged "in" - to catch it as I go... but not high on the list...

There was a little bracket (Z shaped) welded on there for mounting the belt guard. It'll keep the belt guard from shaking and/or rattling. Look for a hole in your belt guard which would be about 1 inch or so away from the weld on the frame

I have had fuses cause the same issue, after checking everything else , it was slight corrosion on fuse panel. replaced all fuses, lightly scuffed contact surfaces and used DIELECTRIC GREASE ON FUSE TABS , instant start no more issues. pete

The only draw back is you tend to buy too many tractors. The only draw back to that is storage space
