15 pointsMy wife and I went to New England last week for our twenty-fifth anniversary. While heading up through Connecticut in the dark we came up to a stoplight and my wife looked out the window and said "oh no" I looked over and saw a Wheel Horse dealer sign. We were twenty minutes from our hotel and it was late. I then told her, guess what we are going to do first thing in the morning?!! When we got up the following morning she said "I can't believe the first thing we are doing on our vacation is going to a Wheel Horse dealer!" Upon our arrival I met the owner of the dealership who informed me that his dad first started selling Wheel Horses around 1975-6. I told him about my addiction and he said that he might have some things I might be interested in. My wife who has zero interest in this stuff just stayed in the car. When I carried out the big two sided metal sign she was just shaking her head. So I scored the two signs, both of which I already have but I can't get enough Wheel Horse memorabilia, a door mat, front weight kit and a vacuum unit !! All for a reasonable price. I must say that the owner really couldn't have been nicer. He told me they had tractors stacked two high in his little showroom back in the hay day. I asked him if he had pictures and he said yes he would have to dig them out and text me the pics. I will post them as soon as I get them. Needless to say this was a great start to our anniversary vacation (at least for me !!)

8 pointsIt has about 6” of baffled tube in the bottom of the pipe, nothing more. It’s surely the loudest of the herd! well, I couldn’t keep a secret. Had to show it to her! She’s on the fence about the light, doesn’t care if I keep the pegs, do stirrups or floorboards!

5 pointsMy brother called me this morning, said his older neighbor was moving and was selling an older tractor, so went over to look, it's a cub cadet 1811 that he built for his granddaughter to pull with. It turned out she had no interest, so it set for 2 years in his garage. Asked him what he wanted, he said $50 and gone. I brought it home. It has wiring issues that the great members have been helping me with. Last pic is my faithful assistant.

5 pointsJust picked this up for 75 bones! No idler/tensioner shaft, but it should be fairly easy to fabricate one. I have pictures, dimensions, and raw materials.

5 pointsTrimmed the dash stand, and actually bolted it in place. It helped position the hood better. Momma visited the shop to bring me a coffee, we talked about our future plans for the 1073. She will think about a total restore or just enjoying it once complete. Also, another name change possibility. There are at least three Wheelhorses and a David Bradley here. A “Frankenstein” tractor. We might have ourselves a “Frank”. I love the name Frank. It’s fitting to the tractor, but also my grandfather’s name was Frank John Platte hence the name of my business F.J. Platte Services. He’s been gone since 4-5-05, before Taylor and I met. I wish they would have known each other. He was my father figure and I saw him daily, being part way across the lake I’d either take the boat or my quad to bring him dinner, hang out in the shed with him, or he’d drive his truck to our driveway and sit to read the paper, then head home. The hardest working man I’ve known was Grampa’s Frank. He drove truck well into his 90’s and kept a garden until then too. He’d haul his pontoon to Lake Okeechobee driving straight through to take his Florida buddy fishin. I could go on an on about Grampa. I guess, for now... Redsquare, meet Frank.

5 pointsYes...I have an addiction to plows. The one on the far left is a “sod bottom” wall behind plow, presumably from a David Bradley giving the light blue paint under the black. It is about a 7” share. Planning to make a slot hitch adapter for it to put on Comanche one of these days. Plow #2 and 5 are the old style “straight beam” Brinly’s with one hole in the hitch. The two middle are standard 10” Brinly’s and of course the 12” Punisher on the end. The only other plow missing from this group that is at my uncles is my old style Cat 0 that I call “the Monster”. Still don’t have a tractor set up for that one yet...one of these days. Some of these plows were used last week and some haven’t been in the ground in years, possibly decades...

4 pointsOne of the frame holes are offset, so I took that into consideration in my mount design. This will double as a hanging weight/battery box mount. Oh, and the light works! That’s all for tonight, it’s family movie time!

4 pointsThis reminds me of my wife telling me "No dead animals on my walls!!". Soo.... when I caught my first legal musky and had it mounted I told her that I was going to hang it on the ceiling above the bed. She graciously granted me a spot on the wall .

3 pointsSo a few weeks ago I bought a 1974 wheel horse A-800 Ranger. When I took it apart to clean up the rust I didn’t take pictures of the 3 speed clutch and brake system. Could someone help me with a diagram or pictures of how theirs are set up please?

3 pointsYou know, it seems that a lot of us have ties one way or another to our grandfather’s through these machines. My best childhood memories are of pulling my grandfather to the country store around the road with one of his wheel horses while he rode in the dump cart. Great job Kevin! I’d be disrespectful if I also didn’t say miss you Poppy!! Love you!!

3 pointsSounds familiar Years ago i was getting ready for an inspection lying on the cold wet floor in the motor pool bay (Think Colorado in the winter). We knew the inspector was death on loose jack shaft bolts on Deuces. Had the 3/4 drive socket on the bolt foot on the frame and pulling hard. Wrench slipped off and the handle caught me between the legs...That hurt and i sat up in response..my head meeting the frame of the deuce. head wounds bleed profusely but what really hurt was lower. I was the company commander showing the troops that we all had to work. Think my Motor Sergeant about died laughing

3 pointsI used to take part in off road competitions some years back. One day I was lying under my Land Rover refitting a rear propshaft I'd fitted with new UJ's. At the time I had a German Shepherd. She liked you to throw sticks or other objects for her. At the time she preferred a lump of hawthorn. A rather big lump and heavy. As I lay there on my back, lower half of my body sticking out from under the Land Rover, she decided she wanted to play. To attract my attention she dropped the lump of wood, not by me, but right between my legs where it hurts. The shock/pain made me try to sit upright. Forehead came in contact with chassis, bounced back and hit the concrete floor, back up to attack the chassis a second time. Rolling out from underneath I could have done with three hands. One for my forehead, one for the back of my head and one to hold you know where. Kelly, the dog just stood there with a bemused look and wagging her tail.

I think it should be.... “Get your family into things you enjoy, and multiply (toys).” I was just fortunate enough to get a good deal on the house and barns... I can’t tell you how many truck engines, transmissions or other major components I’ve replaced or repaired in my gravel driveway at the old place, because the garage couldn’t fit the truck I am not sure what to think about the light, it’s not a concern currently because it’s not in my way yet. I was looking at the picture with the 3” stack though thinking that it doesn’t look terrible right now. I tried to pull it off a while back, but the square in the light body is rounded out and it’s not priority. Maybe I should give it power and see if it works!

3 pointsI broke down and set up a Cleaner I have had for a short time. Main jet and carb cleaned up really well. Choke and throttle shaft look ok. Float had hole in it I had to solder. Needle was stuck in closed position. Cleaned up well. Polished seat with Q-Tip in a drill with valve lapping compound. Just going to need a gasket set. Turns out Horse has been setting for ten years. Changed fuel lines , Cleaned tank with acetone and sealed with tank sealant. New filter.

2 pointsIt's a 1952 Chevy Deluxe, all basically original. 216 straight 6, 3 on the tree. Was my father n laws. I only was able to get to one show this year. Im still looking for some to repair the 6volt radio, and have the original dash clock repaired.

2 points@WVHillbilly520H @gwest_ca Well guys I finally got around to fixing the splitter today. 2 new hoses. Clean/rebuild carb. Clean/regap plug. Change engine oil. Change hydraulic oil. Changed gas tank...(cracked). I got thinking about the above quotes in combination and once I had the machine running I figured to start messing with the valve. As part of the draining process I was moving the lever back and forth and noticed it started to stick in place one way like it's supposed to. Notice on the end of the valve there's a screw. I turned it in 1/4 turn and the valve was/is working correctly!!! So we'll run her a bit and see what happens.

2 pointsIn a manual PTO the friction disk is locked to the crank, they PTO lever pushes the PTO Bell and pulleys against it to engage. You are pushing the crankshaft into the engine. The normal sleeve bearings with small flanges used in many engines cannot deal with this pressure and will quickly wear out. In an electric PTO the field coil when activated pulls the pulley drive out towards the coil. no end pressure on the crank.

2 pointsIf it's not to gummed up I prefer to try to rebuild the existing carburetor first. I think they are a better built and more precise instrument overall than the modern cheap Asian replacements. If your linkage is worn very much it may not be worth rebuilding the old one. You could try placing an ad in our want ad section or contacting Lincoln at a - z tractor.
