11 pointsHi guys, wanted to stop in and say hello to everyone. Its been VERY very busy for me all summer. We finally moved and are just about settled. When we listed out old home, it sold in one day. The buyer wanted to close in 3 weeks and 2 days. Man did the get the ball moving. I am sure you know whats thats like, unreal. TON of things to do. A ton of things to pack, throw away and move. On top of all that, I bought myself something to tinker with. A 1946 CJ-2A. Always wanted one. I have been here reading during the week, just not posting. Down to only one wheel horse I feel naked. I sure miss some of those tractors. I hope all of you have been well and I wont be far. I can see another pony coming to the stable one day. Its differant on this tiny lot, but very relaxing being across from the beach. No lawn in the front, I put 18 tons of stone in. I will be staying in touch. Sorry for being absent so much. Your a good group. Heres a picture or 2. Glenn

8 pointsI finished the next generation of wheel horse mufflers tonight , this is the prototype , now on to the testing stage and see how they sound

8 pointsA few pics from the show. Oh, I found my mash pole sign on my seat this morning. Thanks for saving it from the Big Show Jay @roadapples.

7 pointsWell to say the least this isn't the mother of all shows but we still had fun. Weather was cold and crappie and wet and probably kept some exhibitors and spectators away but I still managed to buy a few new friends. Always nice just to hang with tractor bros anyway! High light was almost watching a kid feed the ducks with shell corn from a display. Sorry no pics of that but here's a few of what I did get... All of a thirty second walk from our lineup to the food but Dan @Achto wanted seat time! That Swisher sure did get alot of looks!
-
7 pointsHere we go 2nd wind. Dan's brother picked up a silo filler so we had fun with that running it off a steamer. Some sawmill action... till they hit a nail
-
5 pointsGot enough of the assembly finished to do some more testing - picked up and moved a dead AC916H and tow it around the block. So far so good, nothing bending and the D handles the added stress just fine. I will have to make up a front weight to act as a counterbalance, front end did start to slide at one point when going uphill. Here's a decent view of the wedges and arms and how they work. I would have preferred to have a pivot point to make it easier to initially hook the assembly up, but it does work fine and isn't an issue with clearing the old Allis' bent-up deck. That 916H is quite heavy, but it is a full-on garden capable GT. Flat tires and all - no problem, the D just drags it around like it's not even back there. One thing I'd love to modify/add - a hydraulic top link but that will require another spool valve, which I'd like to add a twin one and front/rear ports anyway. Sarge

4 pointsLooking to downsize and I am looking for a valuation for my 1996 Wheelhorse 314-8. In great condition. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

4 pointsIt was fun running the Eagle silo filler that my brother Tim picked up from an auction. Him & my brother Les cut a couple loads of corn ( they cut the stalks by hand with corn knifes ). After all of the work getting the corn , luck was with us when we hooked the belt up and gave it a spin. It worked very well and was very quiet. When we ran it on Sat with a Farmall H about all you could hear while standing next to the filler was the H purring away in the back ground. There was a good turn out of hit miss engines, a lot of the exhibitors also brought implements along so that the engines had some thing to run. One of my favorite exhibits at the show was this JD model A. The owner removed the old 2 poppin Jonny engine and replaced it with an International V8 engine. Given the fact that this show is only 9 miles from my house, I decided to clean out my garage/yard & take every tractor/mower that I have in running condition. As long as I had every thing lined up for the first time ever I though that I better take a picture. One thing that kind of surprised me a little, was the amount of interest that people had in my Swisher Ride King. I had fun showing off how maneuverable it was. Most people were amazed to hear that I actually mow my lawn with it on a regular basis. As Jim said the weather was not the best & neither was the spectator turn out, but I still had a good time talking with old friends & meeting some new ones.

4 pointsI have to say that we have both been blessed to find one another. Our first date was at a dirt track stock car race, followed by a variety of street rod gatherings, tractor shows and other nontraditional outings. A couple of weeks before our wedding we decided to go out to a movie, first authentic traditional date we had been on. Our granddaughter has been the focus a lot of our vacations and watching her grow up is amazing. During Spring break she visited us and we got to show her some of the natural beauty of Western North Carolina.

4 pointssorry I've been real busy lately and just found this thread, here are pictures of the lift that I helped design and my friend Charlie Culley help build then welded up. Should have been a little wider to accept a 520 front tires. I also need to add some front weights to the ol D200 because it does tend to push the front tires in a corner. Depending on were the pins for the tires to set on it will catch a mower deck when lifted. I like the way your tire holders work and look, just like the full sized rigs, but this was an easy set up to make and works eric j

4 pointsGuess we should have more pictures taken together. This one is about ten years ago as we were heading overseas.

4 pointsTo each their own. I encourage children to sit on my at shows. If we don't put forth a friendly attitude the next generation will have nothing to do with our hobby and we have our selves to blame. Hay Kid, Have A Seat!

3 pointsSo I was working out in the yard and I get a text from a friend saying he found a 552 wheel horse. Well did some dealing with him and he delivered it. All 4 tires are rotted. Engine is a replacement but is messed up. Hood has a big hole lol. I don't know what I am going to do with it yet. I am stuck between fixing it or parting it. I got a snowblower today with a nice h70 that would look nice on the 552 but I also have a 701 engine sitting in shed that would look good on it too. But I could also use it for parts for the 753 and my 701(needs correct front rims which would be what's on the 552) the picture of the 552 with the hood on it is before it got to my house

3 pointsYa I see that , I try to keep the cost at 60 or less , and its looking like this muffler should fall in that price range , but like I said I cant sell them until they get tested and prove that they will hold up over time , I wont sell junk
-
3 pointsTrina did some assembly on the front suspension and a couple frame pieces today. Here's a few shots to show a mock-up with the hood on.

2 pointsMy wife is an avid quilter and over the past decade has become very involved with an organization you may not be aware of. The Quilts Of Valor Foundation awards quilts to veterans in recognition of their military service. I have accompanied my wife several times when quilts were being awarded and each ceremony is very heartwarming. If you want to learn more about QOV here is the web site. https://www.qovf.org/ Yesterday the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians hosted one of the most outstanding Veterans' Recognition celebrations I have had the honor of attending. Seventeen veterans were wrapped in Quilts Of Valor including a World War Two solder and the widow of an Afghanistan casualty. There was also a Welcome Home celebration for all Vietnam Era veterans. We all received a hat with our branch of service, a beautiful arrowhead shaped medallion with all branches of the US Military represented and a chow hall tray (first one i had ever seen that wasn't all dented!

2 pointsThe loaded tires on my " Other " the 9020 are awkward to manhandle back onto the tractor, so I made a pair of dowels that I screw in at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions to align the stud holes in the rim. Apparently I've exceeded the file space allotted me, rather than delete previously posted images I've gone off site with postimage.

2 pointsEver since switching jobs back this summer I haven't had much time to work in my shop, and it had kinda become a place to just throw things and deal with them later. Took advantage of the rainy weather today (plus I've got heat in the shop and no heat in the RV) and did some major cleaning and reorganizing...getting things ready to finish the back wall and build my workbench so I can get back to work on Ray's C141 this winter

2 pointsAlthough these are posted elsewhere on the forum, I needed to post them here because this thread is a record of this tractor and special memories with it. It will be much easier to point my kids to it in the upcoming years to read about our history with this cool 953! Got to do some plowing with Dad’s Clyde. It was the first time that I got some serious distraction free time to plow with this machine. I’m definitely impressed with it. No problem plowing in second gear with good ground conditions. I was cutting a 5-7” deep furrow and dad’s land wheel was working great...I just need to get those custom decals from @Vinylguy to complete the look of the plow. This plow mule is great! Dad was on a missions trip to Sofia, Bulgaria and wasn’t around to plow with me. I’m hoping it works out for us to plow sometime in the future together with conditions that were this good!

2 pointsBought one of those propane torches this summer at Harbor Freight for $20. What a great buy! Kills weeds in a second... I use it for cracks in driveway, sidewalks and parking lot...man does it beat roundup! Immediate results and no dead scraps sticking up for days / weeks...just wear good work boots and long pants unless you like that shaved leg look! Only drawback? Don't work so well in wood chips!!!

2 pointsAt least you can see the floor.I think I have one in the shop but its covered in stuff.

2 pointsOk, did a lil thinking last night, and I made an Executive decision! Lol I am NOT going to try and get that gibkey out and pull the flywheel. I know it can be done, and I know I could do it,BUT I think it could possibly open up a whole nother can of worms of potential problems. For what I was trying to gain by removing it, i dont feel is worth the potential risk that might be involved. I would be really disgusted with myself if i really broke something on that engine trying to bust it apart, with the sole intention of just trying to get two 10$ pulleys lined up "just a little bit better". If something needed fixed on the engine, and i had to pull a flywheel...well, thats different, but Im going to take the conservative approach...... Anywho....was just sharing my thought process.....lol Now on to hybrid plan A+C.....

2 pointsI bought an OEM gasket for my K301 this spring and it has been great. There are probably 2 things to make sure you are successful with any gasket. Make sure your head is FLAT. I took black magic marker and colored the gasket surface of the head. I then used large sheets of emery paper/water and a flat surface to essentially sand the head flat until all the black marker was gone. I then coated the gasket in some spray sealer which isn't necessary but makes me feel better. Snug the head bolts and torque in the proper pattern. Run the engine to get a little heat in it and re torque. Do this 2 or 3 times. I also choose to use a little never seize on the threads to ensure no issues ever taking head off again and a proper torque.

2 pointsHey guys, I already am going to pick up a 417a with a bunch of extra parts next week and then I noticed a nice 1996 anniversary 314H with 42" RD and 2 stage. All looks in good used condition for a good price. I am thinking of going the extra hour next week and picking the 314h up as well. If I end up getting the 314h package, then I swear I won't look for or buy anything else. Cory

2 pointsI have a home made receiver hitch and a weight Box/stuff crier that I have fabricated for it.
-
2 pointsNot necessarily when it comes to the condition you're describing. Lurching in forward and reverse. It's possible it could be the belt (which also acts as your clutch. The belt and pedal mechanism is designed to allow the belt to slip around the engine pulley which then acts as a clutch) Not sure which particular part you ordered as a clutch. Check both rear axle hubs for worn key slots. If one or both of the key way slots in either hub is worn and wollowed out, it will cause the exact condition you're describing. Basically what happens is the axle spins inside the hub until it catches the key on the wollowed out slot. This will cause the lurching effect in both directions of travel because of the sudden engagement.

2 pointsI believe it. I've seen folks in Maine build a set of steps to trade for 55 gal plastic drums to build floating picnic tables.

2 pointsYour tractor model number is 21-10K801 because 1985 was the only year Wheel Horse used the Kohler 46849 spec number. Kohler also made your engine in 1985. We often see 1984 engines on 1985 model tractors. We do not have any original manuals for your tractor but here is what we do have. 12 different file titles. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/search/?&q="21-10k801"&type=downloads_file&search_and_or=or Have an original transmission gasket and it is .015" thick which is very close to 1/64" thick. It will affect the end play but the end play is not controlled by the gasket thickness. End play is not critical and ends up being what the axles and differential parts stack up to be in the case. 2 pointsCount me in as a paying beta monkey as well...My particular interest is in a muffler that really does "muffle" and greatly reduces the noise. I am in a typical neighborhood and my interest is less in power and more in grass / snow without being a nuisance...My old stock one simply provides a resonating chamber now. Sounds cool and tough but very annoying when I want to plow early before work!

2 points"Wheel Horse Tractors...Built for a more intelligent breed, but so simple and rugged even a "donkey" can drive one..." This came to me when I looked at the drawing and immediately thought of what my Wife and kids say when they talk about my "hobby"...
-
2 pointsBelieve this tractor is a 310-8 with maroon decals so 1985-1989 model using 110996 transmission. Click on the fuzzy picture. Garry Dave - post all the numbers off the engine including the serial number and will see if we can determine the exact tractor model number.

2 pointsFront tires mounted. This is a set of Carlisle ags I had picked up recently for next to nothing. They have some age to them but they are brand new and had never been mounted on anything. 16 x 4.80/8 They're quite small in comparison to the ones on the Patriot horse. Not sure if I'll leave these on or not.
