My kids ages 2 and 4 obviously have a love for these tractors like we all do. So I started drivers training with them a couple weeks ago started out in 1st and low gear low idle. They did pretty good so today we moved up to 1st and high gear low idle and i think this is a good pace for them to learn at i can comfortably walk beside them and help steer if needed, but they are getting good. It teaches them to focus, pay attention and beacuse we only use the loader tractor to take turns.

There was a little rain as Chris and I arrived Thursday afternoon. Cleared up and the rest of the weekend was fine. These photo's of our pitch. Chris in Charge. The ground where we usually have a working area, was like concrete. So we went to play in the potato patch. Not get many chips out of this lot, Chris thinks. Bottoms up. If you'd taken those silly shades off like I told you, this wouldn't have happened. How about some organ music. I wonder who these two tractors belong too?

While on Facebook yesterday a fellow redsquare member put out a wheelhorse that was on the market place. I pretty much ignored it because Jim was not home and I didnt know what time he was getting home and he has the truck. When he got home, I mentioned it but he did not seem to be interested so I left it there. Sooo...yesterday after driving 600 miles home from a car show in MI, Jim sees the same post on Facebook and was like "why didn't you tell me about this?" I was like "I did and you didn't seem interested" long story short he thought I said 1054, not 1045 and so he messaged the guy and the guy said if you have cash and can get here tonight, it is yours...bring help because it is heavy. So we put our little trailer on the truck and headed out. The trans is not locked up and the engine turns over, Jim believes that it would have started if the points are cleaned...not bad for a piece of "lawn art" that hasn't been run in 10+ years. It sat on a raised concrete slab, and it was rougher than the pictures showed. The guy said he originally picked it up in his minivan...that takes balls!!. The front and rear tires are SHOT and are not salvageable there are rust holes in the deck and the lights thatvare on the front are mismatched but it is all there and that is all that really matters...this one is getting restored!!

Our town and country antique gas engine and tractor show is on Aug 25th this year. This Saturday is the big day. As some of you know, my dad passed away back in May. He road one of our parade tractors every year and this year he will be greatly missed. This is my dad on our John Deere last year. Keep the grass cut in heaven pop. We love and miss you.

Got the hood on and decided to put a longer nipple in the exhaust to move the stack a little farther away from the hood. I still need to paint the letters on the front of the hood and add the decals.

Stopped by there today at the request of the auction company because I am a local. It was, to say the least, and extremely impressive collection that varied in Year from around 1960 or so all the way up to maybe 1995 ish? Most of the tractors are what I would call Works in progress. I picked up some of the smaller stuff. I ended up getting four tractors and two parts shelves full of stuff and some various other items. I'll get some pictures posted as I get them here at home. Should be tomorrow if everything goes right. FYI teaser. I have a box of bearings That I'm going to need some help identifying. There are a few big rollers in there with the number 3110. There are also a whole bunch of needle bearings with the number 3110. Two completely different bearings even though the number is the same so there must be some kind of a letter differentiation there.

Funny how I come to miss a post 8 pages long, then run out of likes for the day! Josh and Caleb, great work and I love that you share life stories and lessons learned along the journey! @Coulter Caleb You are a fine example of a young man. I’ve never heards the word toil or strife from another 13 year old. A father of little girls can only hope that one day his daughters find a suitable man to take his little girl and start a family. That’s a long way away, but it’s good to know there are good kids in this world. Thanks for starting my day with a great read, fellas!

The rear wheels of a Wheel Horse were never designed to be run at highway speeds. If you look closely at the metal thickness at the bolting area compared to a trailer wheel you will see that the trailer wheel has thicker metal.Do yourself and the rest of us that use the roads a favor. Do not use the tractor rim as a substitute for what is correct for the trailer. If you have a rim failure it will not be pretty. If there is an accident and it is discovered that you used an unapproved wheel then think about how liable you will be.You may get away with this trick but if someone gets hurt is it worth the convenience?

My father's 1054 is the first Wheel Horse tractor my brother and I started with on a restore and reuse mission. This was the condition in 2007! After the redo!

I think they are just 1" extensions Paul. That extension is the 1st clue for the 10 pinion LSD.
  27. 3 points
@pfrederi That oil extension is factory. They use them with the 10 pinion limited slip differentials to do exactly what you are saying...to raise the oil level a little more to better lubricate those floating pinions and that pesky spring. He has the 5060 transmission there. You want to put in enough oil until it starts to run out of the top of that extension. Maybe your oil level was low before you changed it. Jack up one side and change out your seals.

Wet lawn but, had to try. Why? WHA (Wheel Horse Addiction)! Picked up a freebie, 48" SD deck. The deck was used only a couple of times then parked 10 years ago. Being a nice guy, didn't charge to haul it away. Helpful. Put the deck on my '90 520-8 and, although wet outdoors, mowed a bit. I'm sick in the head I guess (know). No cure.

Hi everyone; I grew up with a faithful WheelHorse as our farmyard machine, and now have three of my own, but I have had trouble identifying one of them. It was restored from basket case before I got it, so there is no tag to help me. Based on the photo, what model is it most likely to be? She is a hydrostatic machine, I presume from the sixties.....any help appreciated. Bruce New Hampshire

One of my favorite pics from that “strip” was this one... because I love the way that the person on the upper right is clutching their pooch and looking like...”you garden tractor mafia—Stay away from my pooch!” Reminds me of @elcamino/wheelhorse Statement above!

Terry has done so many great things for us over the years, he is the greatest.

I did think about that. The plate i made is 3/8 thick which im going to add gussets on the front side which will double as a hookup for possibly a grader blade and then the 2 bolt holes on top of the trans will have a plate going across the top to the 2 pieces of angle and bolted with those 2 holes also. If i ever have any problems i suppose i could modify the trans case maybe step up to 1/2 inch bolts drill and tap the case. Just an idea will have to see how it holds up. I ran the angle iron past the trans so i can build a 3pt hitch off of the angle instead of attaching the arms to the axle housing hopefully that willnput less stress on the housing

For $75, a machine shop willing to set up, bore and broach a pulley is pretty cheap really - it's not that easy to get one to run dead center in a lathe. If it's a 9/16" bore, the pulley is probably a Cessna provided part - they use a lot of proprietary stuff on their equipment. Sarge

Kevin—it’s hard to put into words the great connection that I’ve enjoyed with Caleb these last few years. I know that as he gets further into his teen years that there will be more things grabbing for his attention. However, I’ve been blessed to have this time with him and I’m looking forward to starting a full resto on JackRabbit in September with him. These moments in time can never be taken from us and they are precious. He is a cool, special, unique kid and I’m proud to be called his dad. Thanks for the kind words and stay tuned as we give this guy a facelift. We will be contacting @Vinylguy Terry for some cool custom decals. Here is a couple led pictures of the bagger attached. I’ve had this bagger for about three or four years now from a 314-8 that I bought and then sold to a friend. I’ve been wanting a bagger for quite some time. Mainly for when the grass “gets away” from me and especially for the “leaf season”. I was looking for the right application...Caleb’s tractor is it! I had to buy about $60 in miscellaneous parts to get it up and functioning but we fixed it and it works great! Handles the grass with ease but I will need to purchase some new bags as these are pretty dry rotted and I don’t know how long they will last! It is a great little tractor and should serve Caleb well into the future if he continues to take care of it. Yesterday, Caleb was training for Cross Country and so Zach helped me do some yard work trimming trees. He loves driving JackRabbit because the controls are easily within his reach. It was good father son time with the little guy of the family!

Hydraulic oil such as Hy-trans and the like should NOT be used in the Sundstrand Hydro-gear or the later model Sundstrand piston-to-piston units. These were made to use either ATF or 10-30 motor oil. I am no chemist, and not a hydraulic expert by any means, but I've been told by an old-time Wheelhorse dealer / mechanic to NEVER use hydraulic oil in my Wheelhorses. Apparently, Hy-tran and the like have chemical additives detrimental to Sundstrand units.

for becoming a Supporter. A bit off topic, but I've got to ask, what the heck were you taking apart with a ten foot pipe on the end of a pipe wrench?
  44. 2 points
On the positive side : 1) The two different treads on the steer-tires will provide maximum turning power on all surfaces 2) Rusty tire chains provide more traction than shiny new ones 3) You'll have enough extra wire to finish a couple more project tractors 4) Plenty of spare bungees to tarp , firewood / other lawn equipment etc... 5) Auxiliary fuel for extended mowings 6) It will never have to be waxed All depends on how you look at it .
  45. 2 points
True. Mess around with that one a bit and you might find it's a go-to tractor for you. Nice transformation!!

I try to change up a little of what i bring so that its not all of the same stuff every time... although some stuff makes it two or three years before i switch it up. Part of what I enjoy about taking stuff to shows is to have some variety. The few shows I hit have some good guys that kind of do the same... so the displays are always a little different.

I take tractors to about 8 shows per year. How I set up depends on the rules at the show. Some shows will allow you to have your trailer or camper by your display, others don't want any trailers in the display area. Most shows in our area will have card board signs that you can fill out with your information. I took the time to make some out of wood that resemble the grills of each tractor, then I burned my info into the wood. Here is a pic from one show last year.
