@PeacemakerJack @ACman @cschannuth @ebinmaine Last week coming home from work I changed lanes to allow another vehicle on and missed unidentified object with front tire but it got the right rear and actually popped through the tread about 1.5 miles to my exit where I get out and survey the damage when I remember I didn't have a jack or tire tools since buying it used last year ,I then drove the last 1.5 mile home, any ways I ruined the tire rest of the way, I remember my BIL having a set of Caddilac Escalade wheels so I procured those and and brand new set of shoes to go along, slow transforming this little ride into my "shop truck", Jeff.

@PeacemakerJack, @AMC RULES, @elcamino/wheelhorse, @Achto, @WHX20, Ok so a few months back I posted somewhere a picture of a WH near my parents' place anyways I had left my phone # with the owner and he contacted me last week come get it ALL, so I did just to have a mower at my parents house till I figure out the Cub Cadets, so here it is 315-8 with 48" deck, clevis hitch/lift with get this an actual South Bend Wheel Horse Brinly-Hardy "TOOL BAR" with 10" Moldboard plow, 42" Disc and 36" Cultivator (never knew these existed till today are they rare? valuable?), 42" snow plow and frame (missing angle from seat hardware) another 48" moldboard (bent badly), a Craftsman 42" rear scraper blade, a box full miscellaneous deck parts, and the kicker a Massey Ferguson single stage snow thrower converted to mount and operate on this , last little tid bit a super comfy Kubota lounge chair seat, more pics as I get situated, Jeff. The Sears was a rescue. It was dropped in a scrap tub along with a 69 Work Horse 700 and the guy I got them from pulled both out before they were lost forever. He’s an older fella that lost interest. In one pick you can see where the excavator bucket tooth grabbed the Sears steering wheel to pull it out of the scrap tub. Anyway, I went for an old Horse and came home with this badly beaten Sears. Needed complete rewire and the differential mount bolts were all sheared from being dropped in the tub. Sickle was frozen but the engine would turn by hand. A couple weeks ago I replaced broken tie rods, freed up the sickle, carb and fuel system cleaned, fixed the diff mount mounts, made a steering wheel adapter and did basic service. Sickle bar works great now! I paid more for the new seat than I did for the tractor. I love saving this stuff! I really don’t like seeing solid American stuff melted down and going to make Chinese made washing machines. That thing sat next to a building on his farm for 15 years before I got it. No telling how long it had been since it ran.

I tore it down and wet sanded and cleared a few parts and here's pics of them.

Out of the past month I’ve owned this tractor I have been VERY impressed with the power it has considering it’s size and small 8hp engine. Today I was even more impressed when I moved this trailer loaded with 2 mowers each weighing around 500lbs each plus the trailer weight. Overall I would guess the loaded trailer weights around 1700-1800lbs. Even in 3rd gear it pulled this trailer uphill without trouble, it even stopped it without to much trouble. This is same tractor that I made a thread about around a month ago that I got for $100, even after the upgrades and a few accessories i just picked up last week (a snow blower, deck, and rear grader blade) im still only into it about $500. I would like like to thank everyone who has helped me along with this, from electrical issues to putting in a different trans you guys have had an answer for everything!

Grandpa is smiling down on that old repurposed snowblower motor that used to be his! ‘Honey’ looks happy to have HER tractor running and looking good doing it! Well done my friends—so which project is next from the restoration duo?

Must’ve been the time to test out “new to me” 42” SD decks! Caleb’s uncle Roger gave him one for JackRabbit that too had a couple of rough bearings. However, the shell and the rest of it was in really good shape. It was so cool to see Caleb cutting on his very own tractor. He was really enjoying it although he looks mad in the pic—probably concentrating! Then it was time to head up to Symco for the thresheree. We took GhostRider and Comanche... I love doing stuff like this with the whole tribe! The boys got into some trouble while in the “old town” and the Marshal threw them in the clink! Took this pic just as we were loading up. We hooked Dad’s old Bolens plow on the back that he used to plow our garden with attached to the 875 when I was a kid! A fun Wheel Horse day overall!

It’s finally in the shop! Probably gonna pull the Tecumseh tonight and might trial fit the K321 on it. I think I know what I’ve gotta do to make that look right with the low hood height.

Worked on my tranny a little more today. I pulled the differential apart and installed and honed a set of Lowell's bushings. Went well. Pulled all of the old seals and got the axle bushings in and honed. Checked the bearings and oops! All three s8k bearings were full of crud and stuck. Managed to clean one of them up. The other three were good thank goodness! Managed to find two replacements on fleabay. This thing has had some serious abuse and corrosion inside. Check out the spider gears and the corrosion on them. Guess I've slowed down till next weekend when my bearings come in.

Thanks Josh!!! Well.... Let's see. We need to finish up the dumping trailer... Get the log splitter put back together... Repaint the 1976/77 Ohio steel trailer a dear friend gave us... Get the homemade log trailer axles back on and add a deck to it... Get a C160 up and running..... Oh yeah.... Paint the house. You know.... Life. We should be able to stay busy for a few more days... Or weeks... Or months...

Well I unloaded the trailer of the attachments this morning (the tractor was left in WV at my parents) so here's a couple pics and I'm sure everyone knows what a long frame 42" snow plow looks like.

Jeff—that is an AWESOME haul! I have never seen one of the tool bar kits in person. I’m sure it must be a fairly rare setup. As for the command—my uncle just started using the 314-8 that he picked up a couple of years ago and I was also impressed with how smooth and quiet it runs. I love the fact that it has full pressure lube and an oil filter on a single cylinder engine. I’ll bet there is no cigarette lighter on your new machine but it has the early 2000’s necessity—a cup holder! You did good my friend!

Ahh... Very nice. Simple and easy. Thanks for the pic! The beautiful orange truck is just a file photo I found online. My two favorite trucks are old square nose Petes like a 379... This is a project truck owned by a friend of a friend. Or the Mack R and D models from the mid 60s to the 90s. Like this one my honey took at Owls Head. I even have a tattoo of the original 1931 patent photo of the first 3D hood ornament on my forearm. We drive modern Freightliners at work. Here's our newest one.

Had about an hour or so after mowing the yard this afternoon, so I decided to mess with the bull gear and worn axle key hole. Welded them up best I could. Welding cast is not my thing. The axle was easier. I've still got to clean up the gear a little with my dremmel. Think it will be ok?

Well, this poor Ole thing showed up at our club's annual show and was screaming for someone to rescue it. Upon closer inspection it has really nice tires and a rust free deck on it. I've been wanting a good 42" deck for my 312 and it couldn't have worked out better. Poor tractor has bird turd welds on the dash and hood, a replacement Briggs motor, terrible seat, etc... Emory wants the tractor after I steal the wheels, tires, and deck. I've got more wheels and tires I'll give him. I probably over paid at $175, but even the 8 speed tranny will pull great in all gears without popping out. Another one rescued.

I play with my 62 and Dads Chevelle nowadays. I bought that car when I was 19 it’s an original 327 3 on the tree car. I’ve got the original motor but it’s a 4 speed with a stout 355 now. Dads Chevelle is a 4 speed too

“...hot chocolate and chucking snow” With that awesome cab you have and a GREAT snow removal machine—add the “malted, caffeinated, or otherwise”—you have a combo that will keep you in the cab moving the white stuff until the beverage runs out!

but on my Commando 8 Better than a york rake in my book, course I have to wait for the driveway to soften up enough so I can work the stone. It's ROC, and packs in solid when it dries out. But that 8hp kohler is a power house [horse ]

Seat belts are a must so the passengers who don't share my death wish can't escape. The unpainted angle irons will make the engine plate level and also allow it to slide so I can tighten the chain. This back frame is bolted upside down to the front frame so the flat side is on the bottom. I also tied the bottom of the plates together after I found the axle a little high on one side. Now level I made the axle equal length on each side and measured to the front center of the frame and found it to be true. I prefer studs over lug nuts. I just have to grind a bevel on one side of the nuts. I think the engine will be bolted over the one angle iron but the offset shouldn't be noticeable.

Sorry, oldredrider, that is not the problem. Those mounting bolts are in a blind hole and do not go into the transmission...unless somebody drilled it out and tapped it...which I doubt. More likely, something is a little rusted. Drain the oil and see what is in there. Depending on what you find, fill with diesel for a few days and try moving the hi/low shifter once in a while. Rock the horse also, but do not force the issue...you can bend or break the fork piece of metal. If it does not loosen up, you may need to open the trans. Let us know.

My baby got legs, I hope she knows how to use them. I finally started working on her again after a couple days of rain made some landscaping possible. I had to grind down the upside down frame so the top two nuts holding the flanges would clear and allow the plates to fit flush. The 1-inch axle with a 60 tooth sprocket will hook up to a torque converter on a 212 cc Predator. I still have to order a disc brake, make a double seat, connect the steering, make an engine plate and body work. All and all a much easier build than my first
  49. 2 points
I replaced the Cub fenders with a WH seat pan from a recently found Commando parts machine. A Cub "Ross" steering column, footrests, front spindles and the 212 cc Predator will be the only parts that are not WH. For the axle, I ordered a 1" round with key and flange bearings. I'm going with a cable operated disc brake that will be ordered soon. I have yet to decide whether to use a centrifuge clutch or torque converter, chain or belt. I figure that decision will best be made after assembly is complete. All in all, this is a simple build when compared to my first custom

Well, spent all day yesterday working on our new barn, but got in a few minutes this morning before taking Dad to the dr. Had already finished welding the guard I'm making, so did a little grinding and finish work. Not too bad considering my welding is farm quality - function over looks. A few pin holes that might get a little filler, but otherwise ok. I know i got good penetration because I had to grind down several bird t..ds on the inside😂. I'll try to get a little more done tonight before going back to the barn early tomorrow.
