Maybe kinda silly but I'm so thrilled I just had to share with my friends. I've been having serious vision problems for quite some time now. The first examination revealed some potential for more serious problems but as it turned out it was 'only' cataracts. I was still apprehensive since I have just about zero tolerance for anything near my eyes. Even eye drops are an issue. I was told that if my right eye was as bad as the left I would be legally blind. The surgery on my left eye was yesterday afternoon. The surgeon felt that only the normal sedation would be enough for me and I told him that he was the boss so go for it. I could only picture laying there and seeing sharp objects coming at me and my blood pressure was skyrocketing. Well, that's not the case at all. Sure, I was drugged up a bit but actually the view was interesting. Am I weird or what? No pain at all and no apprehension anymore. The results so far are amazing. Even with my right still off I can see better without my glasses and if I wear my glasses with the left lens removed it's like being reborn. The young lady that started the procedure with all the drops said that many folks who have had one eye done and are back for the other say that they can't wait to have it happen. So many people who have had the surgery told me it was really easy and nothing to be concerned about. That didn't help much but now I understand. Those of you that are candidates but fear it, add me to the list that it is absolutely nothing to worry about. Sure, as with any surgery, there are potential complications but they are rare especially if there are no other issues. You can also add me to the list of being anxious to get my right eye done in 2 weeks. Oh wait.....I do have one complaint. For 8 hours prior to the surgery all I could eat was jello. I have discovered that the potential for starvation as you are eating jello could be very real.

So I had a thread on this machine I picked up several months ago along with 2 others. I took it apart, cleaned and wet sanded everything then clear coated it using duplicolor crystal clear. I like how it came out. Vinsrj rebuilt the motor that was locked tight. You can check out his you tube video on the build. I rebuilt the tranny and love the end result. IMG_6210.MOV.crdownload

This thread will show a "worker" restoration on my C195 and my son's 416-8. Story on the 416-8 is that it was mine over 10 years ago until I sold it. My son wanted a restoration project and this one was offered by to me by the second owner since I sold it. He is a member here on Redsquare. The first pic is my son on it when he was about 2. All the pictures I have for now. All sheet metal was taken off and sand blasted. I just finished priming it.

He probably has what you want and if not he'll make it for you. They don't come any better (the decals and Terry)

Here's my 655 resto that I picked up for a song here in Nashville. I put in 8 hp Kohler engine to replace the h60 techumseh that was on it which was trashed.

Picked up my new l-165 lawn ranger yesterday. The guy I bought it from was going to do a restoration, but got the tractor apart and lost interest. When I picked it up, the motor was off, as well as all the cover pieces, fender and hood. Today I spent the day degreasing and cleaning the frame and other parts. I got everything back on, except the hood, so I can work on the engine. The engine had no exhaust, so I picked up a muffler and some pipe to use. I changed the engine and transmission oil, spark plug, and air filter. Right now the engine isn't getting spark or fuel, so tomorrow I will look at the magneto, and the carb. Hopefully tomorrow I will have the engine running, and when the drive belt I ordered arrives Friday, hopefully I can take it for a spin! I've attached photos (hopefully in order) of before and after I did some cleaning, and after putting some things back together. The seat is just sitting on there, I'm not sure if it the right seat or not. How are they supposed to attach?

C- 195 was hardest restoration I have ever done. But well worth it.

Since I don't see myself hauling any of these down next year here is mine... But..... I may have a special snow pusher/s to bring... lol

Thanks all you guys for all the support you have given me on this projectThere is still some stuff to still work out (belt guard, drive belt, hubs, etc...)on the tractor, but will get him rock'n and roll'n very soon.

That is indeed a very nice outcome. I commend you for going through all the trouble to save what is actually that tractors "personality" which took so many years to create. With all due respect to "restorers" (everything has its place) , and all the work they put into their machines,I am not a fan of a fully restored tractor. Next to each other they all basically look the same. One also is reluctant to do anything with them in fear of scratching them or worse. Now ,you have there is a machine that shows its age, has tons of character that only father time can give it, and you can let your kids or grand kids enjoy it without getting a heart attack. Given the option to purchase one fully restored as opposed to that one, for the same amount of money my choice is clear. WELL DONE SIR.

More progress today. I found a local auto paint store sells ready mixed auto paint and it is a really good match (at least the chip was).

Today the doc and I discussed where I wanted my right eye to be. I opted for the same as the left. That will give me the distance vision and readers.

So... I've been doing some numbers crunching... it looks like this engine is good for 133 horsepower and 169 lb. ft. of torque. My 1449 pound buggy with a 165 horsepower Subaru EJ25 is absolutely wild. I really can't imagine how this is going to turn out! I guess, I hope and pray that you never find any traction... otherwise ???? for anyone interested in the build on the buggy, here's a link... https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=662104

I dunno Bob I thought your sight was pretty good after spying and picking up that nice round hood at the show! I figured that's why you were so antsy at the show as you were worried about the surgery thing. Understandable... My wife Cindy being a surg. tech. says its quite a common procedure and they do dozens of them a day with no problems. I hear your phobia about sharp objects nears one's eyes tho. Sounds like you had a good doc tho and use eye drops if they tell you to!

Welcome to Redsqure I also have a C160 and I like it the most of all my tractors. Here is a diagram I doctored to help me with mine. This is a basic wiring diagram. The colors may be different from yours but it makes it a lot easer to trace a problem.

This week I've had a chance to finish up the foot rests, patch the hole in the hood around the gas tank filler neck and rework the Tecky gas tank bracket to fit the Kohler and I've drilled the seat pan so I can either bolt the seat directly to it or use the flip up bracket with the seat springs.

I pulled the case apart and it looks like I can get away with just replacing seals and gaskets and cleaning everything up. I took some pictures of my progress. thanks again for all the info

The stuff they give you during the surgeries today works wonders. When I had my stents in I'm looking at my heart and pointing at the monitor. "There it is!"

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. I didn't realize I was antsy but maybe I was. So many people told me exactly what Cindy said but I still couldn't help but have it on my mind. Now it's definitely one of those "what was I worried about" things. Just got back from the day after follow up. I got a positive 'wow!' from the lady when she checked my left eye. Then on to the doctor. I think he was impressed with himself He pounded the eye drops thing too and I told him no worries, Nancy is in charge of that. Thanks again for that cheddar cheese. Without a doubt several notches above what we get around here. Oops, almost forgot. Nancy said thinks for the dill pickle chips. She loves them. I ran across this Thursday but nobody was around. First thing Friday I'm looking at it again and the rest is history. It's gonna need a bit more work than my big show quick inspection revealed but I think I did good.

How are you testing for spark? You might buy a cheap $5 tester at Harbor Freight. You replaced points and condenser but did you replace the plug? The cold water may have cracked the porcelain insulator or water may have gotten inside it. As an aside it is bad practice to use sandpaper or Emory cloth to clean points. Bits of the grit can get stuck in the points surface and lead to premature burning/failure. Use a point file or borrow a metal nail file from the other half...(Clean new $1 bills also work)

This diagram is a huge huge help. I followed it very closely when I wired my b80. When I did my C - 160, I made a few changes and adopted the diagram to the changes. Great thing to hang on your Workshop wall.

Glad to hear everything went so well Bob. I have the same procedure in my future, and it's good to hear abut your success. Get the other eye done, and you'll feel like a twenty-year-old. I saw you at the show, but sorry I didn't get a chance to chat with you more. Good to see you though. Jim

Thanks for the report Bob. It's good to hear the great results. I just had my annual eye exam and my eye guy says my cataracts are not quite bad enough to justify removal. The insurance won't pay as long as my vision can be corrected with glasses. Enjoy your new clear vision.

To be a contrarian. When we moved out to the boonies 18 years ago all I had was the Lawn Ranger. mowing 2.5 acres and more just took too long. No time to buy and fix up used WHs we bought a new JD GT 235 in June 2001 from the local JD dealer. Wife likes it as it is hydro and easy to get on and off. Since then the only failures, a belt to the deck and an idler pulley. The battery is JD original and still working after 17 years. Engine is a JD labeled B&S. No problems starts instantly. I do not care for the need to pull the PTO knob when you back up or the blades shut off, but I guess that is true on all new stuff. It wasn't cheap $4,600 plus tax. But that is now down to about $271/yr. Be careful I have looked at the Big Box versions of JD and they are not built nearly as stoutly.

I brought home a lot of money. Sold 6 or 7 seats and had a really good time even in the rain. I got to see some old frends and meet some new ones. I love seeing the kids in the parade and Wild Bill is amazing with his knowledge of the wheel horses. I got to work with my frend @953 nut and see his ingenuity at work. I didn't bring home very much for my horse's But the memory's will last forever.

I appreciate the accolades for grabbbing the 854 but it was really no big deal. It literally added only 30 minutes to my trip. As a bonus there was a great spot for breakfast on the side road to get the 854! The look on Caleb’s face and the mega-bear hug he gave me when we met up in the shows parking lot were all the payment I needed!!

I've managed to get a little more done this week. I had to shorten and bend the trans hi/lo shift lever to get it where I wanted it, I also added a brace to stiffen it some then cut a slot for it in the tunnel cover. There was some play in the frame where the drive belt idler pulley shaft goes thru it so I reamed the holes out and added bushings to fix that. Then I cut a pair of foot rests from a B series tractor down to fit this Ranger and added a couple of braces to the frame to support them. I've still got a little tweaking to do to them but I'm pretty happy with how they fit. I decided to use a different steering wheel so I need to get the seat mounted and figure out what height I want the steering wheel to be. In the pic it's mounted to the original Ranger steering shaft and I think it might be too low.
