Met up with Vinnie @VinsRJ today...came home with a sweet pair of WH wheel weights and a pair of brand new never mounted ag’s. Now to decide which of my undeserving tractors gets em! Right now my Commando 8 is in the lead .

Actually, I don’t think anyone would make an argument there is ever a bad time to pick up a new impliment; am I right? 42” snow thrower. I can definetly wait until winter to try her out. Sorry I’ve Been absent as of late. Busy and healing.

Just when I thought I was down to a workable number of three (should really be two!) Wheel Horses, along comes a really nice '94 314-8 from another RS member. Finally had a chance today with no rain to drive down and pick it up. The first tractor I have bought in Virginia - that is staying in Virginia!

Hello, I purchased a 1995 520-H at an estate auction last weekend that only had 41 hours total on the machine, pretty much new old stock.. I changed oil, cleaned out gas tank and Carb.. Am I missing anything IMPORTANT Prior to firing up tractor for the 1st time since 1995? Thanks in advance

Changed gear oil in transmission for the 702 Wheel Horse yesterday which I will be taking as one of three tractors to the Big Wheel Horse Collector's Show in Pennsylvania. Also taking my 854 and my RJ that I redid two years ago. Got the RJ all ready to go yesterday. Used the 701 Wheel Horse with my 9 tine cultivator (mix of Danish and Wheel Horse shovel tines) on the garden this am . Worded fantastic and the half inch rain we had last night made the work pretty easy. Video of the tractor working one of the last rows! 053.MOV

Make sure no rodents have made nests anywhere under engine tins, air cleaner, in the tunnel etc. Also make sure fuel lines, hydraulic lines and wiring has not been chewed through or just cracked with age. I would likely replace all fuel lines and filter just because of the age.

Saw an ad for a cheap very rough commando 8, I guess a 1968 model, after getting the pics I saw it was complete and sitting for 25 years but not at all a resto candidate. was on my home from work stopped and it was rough, I did sorta buy it, I paid him the 50 bucks and just grabbed whatever I could pull that was worth saving, got a complete k181s, turns over! 36" mower deck, good front rims, belt guard and hood. the rest sadly he will send to the crusher but at least some of it got saved.

Smart money buys snow blowers in the spring and mowers in the winter.

Here is a Picture . Thanks for the info Tractor Boy, The Regular gas is near $4.00 a gallon now that all gas has gone up but it was around $3.50 for a year or so.. . The little guy on the seat was a random child at the auction.. He spent a couple hours setting in the seat. His parents said they should have purchased it to keep their son occupied.. :-).. It has the rain/Sun cover installed but the plastic doors and window piece is still new in the box. I went to the auction to bid on a .22 Winchester and ended up with a Tractor , That's how life goes.

You could also add some good lubricant to the connectors to help keep out moisture and corrosion. I use silicone grease but even spray on white grease will work.

I put a a 16hp K341 into an electro12. I switched it to a manual PTO only because I do not like electric PTOs running snowblowers. I like to feather the PTO to start it up the electric is a bit violent for my liking. But the electric will fit. My Electro 16 will throw some snow!!!

One day I’ll get my kid to show me the right way to weld. By then I probably won’t be able to see much at all.

@stevasaurus That is the torque specs for the bolts that hold the Squonk 's head on his neck.

Well, I had a little more time to play with the Techumseh on my Lawn Ranger today Paul. I had put a new Chinese carb on it when I first got it. I decided to see what it would do to adjust the fuel just a little. I turned out the low idle a little bit and adjusted the high idle out just a hair and now she purrs like a kitten - no surging at all! Always started easy, even more so now!! Couldn't find a tag, but I think she's a HH60.

203ss is also a 6203 brg. which is what GM used in there alternators as well. You can get them open, steel shielded or with 1 or 2 rubber seals. I used to sell sleeves of the cheap version of these. They fit a ton of stuff

Nice ... that rain/sun cover is part of a $900 cab! With that and the wheel weights maybe the PO was going to use it for blowing snow?? Any sign of a blower on the property? As far as the gas goes the bad news is your horse is or will be a rather thirsty one. Nature of the 520 beast. You can get by with running eth. laced gas but spike it with some seafoam every now and then with storage additive or non eth for long term storage.

got the same model, use it on my 312-8, lubrication is vital on the gear and chain drive, I use LUBRIPLATE , CHAIN AND CABLE FLUID, before and after every use, also on the bottom of chute base and cable on rotator. also on the double pulley tension frame at mounting points . that allows it to easily follow spring tension. it spins up with no effort , with regular lubrication, also use the snow chute lube, helps throw ,minimize build up. I use a Kevlar belt , very solid no wear or problems, D&D BELTS , eBay. using a heavy lift spring from tractor supply, really helps on lift . auger looks good , keep after it , keep those moving parts wet with oil . good pick up , Pete

that is a sweet unit, as you say nos, dielectric grease is made for connections and it stops corrosion, good stuff. as stated , just going over all the possible service areas is vital . 87 octane fuel should do it , keep it fresh , add stable to it , to make it last. I would run it and check for anything , then do a full service , again to have a base line on this " new " tractor. change trans oil. wow , what a rig to start off with, in todays Chinese junk world. thanks for the heads up , Pete

Seeing that it is almost original, I would run non-ethanol. Why? Well non-eth as the name implies it has no ethanol in it. This means that if you let it sit for a while your carb would get jacked with. Secondly I’ve heard it cleans the pistons. This is a myth for me but I’m not sure. As from a price point, non-ethanol is about 7.50 a quart locally for me. But that is from a hardware store in a bottle. If I were you, I’d restore it and used it as a “pavement princess”. -Tractorboy

to the A 41 hr. 520 …. Good advice above and I would also clean all electrical connections. Simply unplugging and reconnecting several times will clean and reestablish good contact. Do this on the molex connector,, fuse blocks, fuses, regulator, ignition switch, starter, solenoid, battery posts, and ignition switch and you may head off future electrical problems.

I Save Tractors has kits that you may want to look into. While you have it apart you will want to put in brushes and springs anyway.

It would be a shame to dismantle a C-160 for lots of reasons but especially since they're quite rare here in Maine. Everyone has their more desirable models and that one is Very high on many folks lists. Perhaps you could use a more common model or one that isn't in as good of condition but runs well. (I may be able to help you out there) That said... You'd like the power difference. If you're going to sell the C-160 chassis or other parts please keep me in mind. I live 1/2 hour from you and I might very well be interested. Thanks!!

Replace all rot, good cleaning/degreasing. Further replacement of parts I'm sure, then tune up and some paint. Final product look good and functional.

Same happens to me. For some reason welding is NOT like riding a bike. It's nice once you finally do get in that groove so the grinder isn't needed to clean'em up.

Wish I welded more than once every year. Welds look like absolute crap when I start. Then about the time I am wrapping up the last weld looks almost amateurish is instead of like a blind man did it. Oh well. It functions and will be under the seat and fenders:-) i have the fab work done for the turning brakes now. Need to drop by the hardware store and get mini turn buckles or some other hardware that allows me to adjust tension of the steel cable. I doubt it will be obvious but I took some pics. To engage the Brake, I will pull the handle back towards the driver slightly. Left handle Left tire receives brake etc.

You should also be able to take your old one into any auto parts store and they will fix you up.

Time for the unveiling of a 1973 16hp Automatic Got a great sounding stack from Jim Kemp, even revved up it's a tolerable sound without ear protection. The PO gave me a lot of extras A complete decal set Headlight bucket and lens Standard piston, head gasket, condenser, points, axle seal Had the hydraulic lift rebuilt by Wheelhorseman The tractor manual and parts list. He wasn't really a Wheel Horse guy so he kinda lost interest in it. The 16hp runs good with no smoke or noises. It's got a new carb and all new filters and oils. Transmission works good and will spin the tires in both directions. Some freshing up by some new paint and those decals, it's going to make a real nice worker.

I have seen an automobile power steering pump and reservoir used to power a hydraulic lift on a garden tractor, wish I had taken a picture of it.

So this weekend my cuz took some of the herd to a pole barn he can use in exchange for grounds maintenance . He went to the barn loaded the C120/160 frackinhorse then come by my barn grabbed the Commando8 . He dropped off the C120 at his dads and then took the Commando8 to or mechanic friend. My cousin and friend went back over to the barn to grab something and when he opened the door this was in there ? Now mind you he was only gone for a half hour . Well I’ll after a while we figured it out . The high school football team was doing a scrap drive and the dumpsters were located behind the old middle school where the barn is also located across the parking lot. The coach had seen my cousin with the trailer loading and moving tractors around. Five minutes after he left a guy showed up with this for the scrap drive. Told them it just quit running last year and wasn’t going to mess with it. So after the guy left the coach rolled it across the parking lot and put it in the barn . When the coach was telling my cousin this he said just make a small donation to the team . My cousin responded right back and said you know all that scrap your getting at my cousins most of it was from my jobs . Four trucks worth. Cleaned up my yard ! So in the end we all won . Is your addiction bad when the whole town knows you collect and you have people just drop you off tractors or call you about a tractor they have . Two weeks ago we picked up a 520H for under $200 . The guy called out of the blue and said please come get it . I’ll get pictures of it after it gets done doing yard cleanup chores at my cousins FIL house. Yes it’s a running mowing no smoking tractor too .

No idea, but I'd sure go for it. I've had a sickle and tiller on my wanted list for quite a while.

You might consider the Kenda K502 Terra Trac tire in place of an ag style. I had these on my 518xi and they were better than an ag for not tearing up the ground, yet had more traction than a turf.

What about Hustler ? I've heard several people say they like them and the price is right.

Your present solenoid may be the problem, or there may be another problem that makes you think there is a bad one. Have you cleaned and tightened all electrical connections including grounds? If you run a small jumper wire from your battery "+" terminal to the small terminal on the solenoid do you hear it close? Just hate to see people buy a bunch of parts only to find that there was another simple fix that could have cured the problem.
