14 pointsMy first Wheel Horse still likes to work. The Tecky pulled a load of stone home from the field, so we made a retention pond to disperse the house rain water. I know, it's pretty obvious, I'm not a stone mason.

10 pointsBarn dust for sale $50 a pail — just sprinkle a little all over a tractor and it doubles sometimes triples the value!! It also works well for vintage cars and trucks. The price is a little high but please realize that finding this was a (barn find) in and of itself. Serious inquiries only please!!!
-
9 pointsYeah, but back then, a pallet of field stone wasn't worth $200. That does remind me of one of my Pappys quotes though. We were outside on a nice sunny day enjoying a picnic when Pappy said " when I was a youngin. we ate inside and went outside to take a crap, nowadays, we eat outside and go in side to crap." go figger
-
8 pointsNot bad Ed, but it's kinda funny all those years when I was a youngin my daddy and grand daddy spent all their time hauling rocks out/off the yards, now we haul back them back in.
-
7 pointsYou hauling these to the show? I would take a 10th of a bucket please.

6 pointsThe "Implements Picture Gallery" on the main page has now been cleaned out of all of the 3rd party hosting threads. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/26-implements-picture-gallery/ Plenty of room for the members to hop in and replace with their pictures of Implements and attachments. Take a look and if you have something that should be in here...please post it. Try to use good pictures from all angles and post a Model Number if you know what it is. Remember, this should be a place for people to go in and try to figure out what they might have, or for those looking to buy something and figure out what they are buying. This area is for pictures and maybe an explanation from the poster only...it is not for discussion like on the regular forum.

6 pointsCompared to last summer I'll have it easy this year. Replace numerous sections of damaged siding on house. Completely rewire the garage ‘down the hill’. Install gutters on same garage. Remove old windows, repair sills and frames, install new windows on garage ‘up the hill’. Completely gut the other half of the basement eliminating the original stairway and rebuild to suit. Complete rewire of original part of house. Install generator transfer switch. Remodel laundry room and lower level bathroom. Replumb original part of house removing the remaining iron pipe. Install exhaust fan in 2nd floor bathroom. Install kitchen cabinet fronts that I made last summer. Install storm/screen doors on basement French door. Make and install window trim on 2nd floor. Wire neighbors new barn. Oh yea, the fun stuff: Replace K-341 on the 76. Finish the 500 Special. Rebuild snowblower. Go to the big show.

6 pointsA great idea for spec plates. Stevebo discussed this with me last week and after a few experiments I think this will work . Many of the original spec plates ad the numbers stamped and I have been printing the serial and model numbers on my decals . this clinton spec plate decal has the stamped area cut out so the original stamping will show through. I am sending a couple to Stevebo tomorrow so he can test for fit. They will have a thick se through transfer tape covering them to help keep the thin strip seperating the boxes aligned. Once the dimensions and alignment are correct I can mass produce and sell at a lower price because there will be no set involved. Might work for the Kohlers as well.

6 pointsThe weather cooperated so I plowed a buddy’s garden and then got the sprayer set up for some weed control.

5 pointsTHE Mustang is back.

5 pointsAlmost all the tins on my 520 are bad, salvageable but very rough. I found floor boards, hood, fender and tunnel parts a while back. Today I picked up a set of 23x10.50x12 Carlisle AGs. Impressive to say the least. Look lightly used and the price was too good to pass. The deck is done, I'm fighting the urge not to dig into this tractor but this time of year is very busy with cleanups and lawns starting soon.
-
5 pointsDo more fishing I pour and sell fishing weights and jig heads this keeps me busy Help wife with flower beds and garden. Travel more on vacation. My son lives in the Bahamas so I spend 15day each summer there fishing. Then Back home to do home chores.
-
5 pointsI'll trade some of you guys....Been trying to find someone for two years who will cut down several trees but thankfully I have the budget. Started to wire my shed for 220 and found out I will need to replace an outdated and possible fire hazard Zinsco meter base along with about $500 of service entrance wire and all the extras........

-
4 pointsI haven't touched my projects in a while either. I need to: 1. sand & paint the floor of the wrap around porch 2. repair some lattice work around the base of the porch 3. put some edging around my wife's flower beds 4. remove some bushes from around the garage. 5. Put up spouting on the garage, and fix a poor drainage problem around that said garage. 6. Remove some old shrubbery around the house when fall comes. Other than that not a whole lot
-
4 pointsAny idea who makes those, Bout the same price as a NAPA too! That sure is a nice lookin there dude! Might have to try that one.
-
4 pointsGood thread, Eric. We watch our three grandkids, ages 4,3 and 1 a couple days a week and I take care of a small 5 acre cemetery, that takes me a couple of days to mow. I also set those bronze military markers on veteran's graves, I'm pouring concrete bases for some of those today. I mow a couple of neighbor's yards and for some reason I seem to be the neighborhood lawn mower repair guy...... We've done a bit of hiking in your neighborhood at Acadia, we really like that area.
-
4 pointsI went to a local sawmill and had him cut White Oak planks for my trailer. They are heavier and harder than treated pine boards but are very resistant to water, abrasion, rot and insects. I treated mine with used motor oil/fuel oil mixture. Most commercial flat bed trailers that have a wood deck are made of white oak.
-
3 points5 gallons - you can easily make you money back after you sprinkle just a little on anything vintage that your selling and then you can use the words (barn find) in your ad!!

-
3 pointsEd looks like you and the C-120 did a lot of work . The trailer held up well considering the amount of stone you hauled. You are very spry for a young fellow .

3 pointsIs the belt slipping on either engine or starter/Generator pulley? Does it charge the battery when it is running? (Do you have about 14 volts DC when running?) if the belt isn't slipping and the Generator charges when running could be a field coil in the starter/generator is failing or failed. I would take it to an automotive starter/generator repair place .. They can test it and probably get parts to fix it.

3 pointsThere is a lot that I could say here from the various things that I’ve learned plowing with GT’s but I don’t want to get too far off topic. Next time you plow, see if someone is available to take a video of it and post it. I like watching plowing videos but also I might have a few pointers from what myself and/or my plow dog buddies have learned... You certainly have a sweet plow rig and it doesn’t surprise me that it draws attention while trailering across town!
-
3 pointsBoth nice rigs for sure but this plow dog is all about that first pic and the freshly turned soil I can’t wait to get my Brinly in the dirt...

2 pointsI was realizing a day or two ago that I had not had time to touch my project c-160 for a few days. Lots of good stuff going on. The weather is finally warming up just a tad. We are getting back to the reorganizing stuff around the property. I have to do some digging around my workshop and replace a rotten board or two. Working on a trail to be able to get the tractor down into the forest. Have to build a bridge or two. We've been making hiking and mountain biking trails around our property perimeter. Start moving some cordwood pretty soon. The house will get a Fresh coat of paint and some trim replaced this year. And of course, hiking season is here for us. That's going to occupy a lot of time and it's awesome! We have so much going on right now that the other day I actually cancelled my internet and we already didn't have cable. No time to use it. So what kind of stuff are you all up to right now or for the next few months that keeps you too busy to keep your head screwed on straight??
-
2 pointsOn every deck spindle and tractor front wheels that I rebuild, I use double sealed bearings (double seal means a seal on both sides) and I remove the zerk fitting and replace it with a set screw so no one can screw it up. Why? Because if you let someone pump grease thru a zerk, you can never control that they will only put in three pumps worth. People will pump until the grease comes out somewhere and that means that you have popped the single seal on one or more bearings, not to mention the mess and the anger from the Mrs. if you happen to track some of that spilled grease into the house. Now the seal is good for nothing but to let water IN. Also, I use only high quality bearings, Heim or equal. None of these $5 Chinese bearings for me.
-
2 pointsEd, you must be getting along well with the new neighbor. Bet they don't let just anyone pull stones out of their field.
-
2 pointsNow we are getting somewhere...there is absolutely no way both wheels would spin at the same time with an 8 pinion differential. If both actually did try to spin at the same time and did for a couple of seconds....congratulations...you are the proud owner of a 10 pinion Limited Slip differential...maybe with a weak spring. I am going to tell you something about differentials. If you put your rear end on blocks and put the trans in gear with the engine running...let's try 1st gear first...one or both tires will spin. You can grab one of the tires and the other one will spin...you can then let go of that tire and go to the other side and grab that tire and hold it, and the other tire will spin. That is how a regular transmission works. Now picture that the tire that is turning is on the ice and the other is on concrete. An 8 pinion differential is going to sit there and spin all day. The 10 pinion LS differential should start the tire on the concrete spinning along with the one on the ice, thus moving the horse from being stuck. So...if you have the 10 pinion...when you grab one of the wheels...you should not be able to hold it from spinning (if it is working properly). Remember, it is Limited Slip...not Posi-traction like in a Pontiac. The sure way to find what you have...open the transmission and stop screwing around...then you can clean it, replace worn parts and have a horse that will last you another 50 years. I'll wager 99% chance you have a 10 pinion LS differential. Here is a video of the 10 pinion Limited Slip differential.

2 points..... And our front entrance Door. Two of my projects from the last few months. Both of them were a pain in the butt because of needing to replace framework but I'm glad they're done. Keep them coming people!
-
2 pointsI wouldn't procrastinate on getting that done. Zinsco and Federal Pacific aren't 'possible' fire hazards, they are definite fire hazards.
-
2 pointsI use the longer -0800 filter, that is what was on the 1991 when new, although the book called for the shorter one. I tried the smooth NAPA once, but hate not being able to use an oil filter socket.
-
2 pointsGot some more work done on the project. Cleaned up and went through the engine then repainted. Also got the frame, dash tower and transmission painted as well. Figured I'd throw the front wheels and tires on as well
-
2 pointsYep. 1974 C-160 w/ K341s engine and Sundstrand # 90-1140 transmission.......one of Wheel Horses finest. Here's mine
-
2 pointsSo I decided to NOT restore the 59' RJ. I took it apart completely and cleaned all parts. I also did some sanding. The top of the hood basically had no paint left so I had to feather in some color match using a gun. I then wet sanded and buffed it. Cleared most of the frame and steering parts. I still have to get hood right before I clear it. Coming along nice imo. On the Economy I modified the fenders to fit fairly tight over tires. I still need to mount them but pictures show pretty much where they will land. I love the look on both. Update on the 857. It did not go to a new home like anticipated. I am willing to sell it if anyone is interested. I am willing to sell as is but would like to get it running and then offer it up in the classified section. I did start to wet sand and buff it and it looks pretty darn good.

2 pointsAfter running a Yard Man tractor for several years using sealed bearings in a similar spindle setup and having the bearings last and last, I have started using them on my horses. Got one thats in its 3rd season and still OK. I always hated having to pump and pump grease into the spindles to get the little bit of grease actually needed. Along this same vein, I have also changed the front wheel spindles to sealed bearings also.

2 pointsSneak peak of getting wheels back from powder coating yesterday!

1 pointYou might try to heat the hub where that bolt is broke and then take a candle and melt some wax on it. It is a good way to loosen up stuck bolts. Glad the new belt got your horse going in all gears. On your transmission, that 1" extension seems to be common on the 6 speed, 10 pinion LS differentials. It allows more trans oil to be in the trans before it starts to come out the plug hole. The pinions in the LS trans actually "float" in the differential...(they are not on a post). The LS differential is still going to act like an 8 pinion differential so that you can still steer it when turning. The LS only works as a limited slip when you are going in a straight line and one tire is slipping. One way to check your trans...put the front end up against a tree, (have your rears wheels on grass or sand), put it in 1st gear and let out the clutch. Both wheels should spin if you have a LS differential and the spring (holding the pinion in place), is in good shape.
-
1 pointI used 5/4 on mine. Need to go back and coat the under side to keep the wood borer bees out...
-
1 pointAll of that was done from the gentleman that gave me this tractor he didn’t care for the auto and knows how much I enjoy these tractors so he offereded it to me and of course I couldn’t pass this beauty up

1 pointDecided on the 83-2730 based on the size proximity. A rubber band would be better than what's left of my current spring, so it can't be worse. I'll keep you posted.
-
1 pointI don't think it matters a great deal Ron both types are made to wear out. . I run sealed just to help keep water out but wash my decks a lot. Sealed ones are also easier to pick the inside seal out for those who like to grease.
-
1 pointThat's my neighbor's roadster it's a '29 Model A with a 350 Chevy in it. When he gets it out I will try and get some
