17 pointsWe walked into each other's lives a little over 2 years ago (literally, we're hikers) and everything just combined together perfectly. We finish each other's sentences and often don't even bother to communicate verbally because one already knows what the other's thinking anyways. My B80 isn't a show rig (for now). It wasn't quite complete when I got it as a pile of parts and the hood is in very rough shape so I have no guilt about making it factory original. I'm building it for the best use of our needs here on our acreage. One of the things I'm changing is the shift knob to something larger and "different". I'm not the smallest fellow in the world and with gloves on the stock knob feels like a marble in My hands. I've already purchased mid-60's gear sticker as part of my pack-o-stickah's from @Vinylguy and will put it on the shift plate. Reverse has never Once changed position but I can't remember where it is half the time. And I just like stickers because I'm a kid... I HAD NOT TOLD HER about that part of my build plan. A few of you may know I have quite a liking for old Mack trucks and Petes too. ( @AMC RULES and @Big_Red_Fred ) Yesterday she gives me a gift.

13 pointsFinally got around to installing one of the stacks I bought off @Aldon (thanks again!) at Stevebo's meet/greet. These are the smaller sized ones built by Bud Andews...perfect for a short frame tractor like my Commando 8. The old muffler looked ok but actually had rotted out on the bottom. The old exhaust pipe has been in the K181 since new so unthreading it was out of the question. I cut it off with a sawsall and then gingerly made two cuts on the inside till I could gently whack it with a chisel, collapse it and it then spun right out! Used a 6" nipple coming out of the block and a 3" for the vertical piece. Shot it all with hi-heat black and tightened it all up. Sounds great! Quieter than the old muffler, perfect for putting around shows.

10 pointsWell after rearranging the barn this afternoon and squaring things away for winter I found a common theme. It seems that I gravitate toward that beautiful red. Some may think that it is a problem.......but we all know better!

7 pointsWorking on a loader for the 520. I’ve been looking for a long time and have been close on a couple of deals but financially it never worked out. Decided to gradually pull all the pieces together to build my own. My wife got me the P.F. Engineering plans for my birthday and my father-in-law has access to some free steel. I still need to buy some steel but not a lot. My dad had an old Montgomery Ward stick welder that still works pretty well and I practiced for a few months on scrap and got to the point where my welds look Ok and have decent penetration. The other pieces I’m buying as money allows and I find things on sale. Here are a few early pics of the bucket and the partially complete subframe.
-
6 pointsI realize you are past this point, but I did this on my 1277. The person that put the loader on it, never tied it into the rear at all and I almost broke it in half. By using the rectangular tubing it is very stiff and puts very little strain on the frame. I person could even tie it into the hitch mounts if he wanted to. Just thought I would throw this out there. Randy I added weights on the rear, thats why it sticks out there so much.

4 pointsPeople here are talking about flipping a tractor????? Every tractor I've ever bought, worked on,then tried to sell was a money losing proposition.Think about it.Buy this 418-8 for 200 bucks.Probably plan on a battery.60 bucks.Iknow,I know, people will write that they can get a lawn tractor battery for 20 dollars.where I live, those days are considered historical information.4 tires. At least 300 dollars.Less for crap.A little more for semi-crap.Drive belt and probably new idler pulley.Another 100 dollars. Not going to include anything for labor. After all we all work for free.Right.We're up close to 700 bucks in the tractor we're going to make money on.We advertise it for 12 hundred.Get zero interest.Lower the price 2 weeks later to 1,000 dollars.Still no interest.Lower the price to 800.A couple people come and look and tear it apart.Doesn't have shiny wheels.Has rust spots and dull paint.Gee,the seat is ripped. The muffler looks rusty. On and on and on.This is the reason I have over 80 wheel Horse tractors in my yard and garage. This tractor hobby is just that........a hobby.A hobby that I really love and enjoy and I think I always will.

3 pointsFirst make sure the fuel shutoff (at the tank) is open. Try it again with the spray and when it gets running keep giving it a shot of spray til it keeps running. This usually works for me if they have sat for a while, especially with gas in the carb.

3 pointsI had the wheel bearing problem back in 1989 on my C-120. Had one wheel bearing that was always loose, tried several fixes nothing worked even machined a sleeve to fit over the hub. It didn't work either the bearing cut up my spindle. Trailer wheel and spindles were a lot cheaper back then I payed $125 two spindles, hubs, wheels with tires. I went with 3500# set-up. I saw 2" off the back of the spindles, then we drilled them for the 3/4" Wheel Horse axles. We also cross drilled the spindles between the bearings. Then we cut the Wheel Horse to fit inside the spindles. The 3500# spindles are 2" in diameter on the back side so there is a lot of metal to weld to the Wheel Horse axle. We welded around the WH axle and to the upright part of the axle also welded the end of the axle between the bearing surfaces. My camera battery is about dead I'll charge it up and get some more pictures later today. I though I had weld to the up-right, but I didn't, I planed to reinforce them just never got back to it. I did reinforce the ones on the 312-8. I post a few pictures of those too. [url Here is the 312 reinforcement. I think I used 2" x 3" x 1/4" angle, could have been 3/16" angle.

3 pointsSlowly getting the Agrivating Fab Mow n Vac dialed in and finally figured out why it has an odd sized hose - someone must have kept the original 6" or it got destroyed and one of it's previous owners used a piece of plastic tubing held in with wood screws and expanding spray foam to make it fit the deck adapter . The hose that was on it is a 5" and that doesn't match what belongs on it - they must have cut up the accessory hose for cleaning around flower beds and such and that also explains why the replacement blower inlet adapter was a different size - it is suppose to be a 6" and the current one is the accessory hose's 5" . Got a new deck adapter to get away from the cobbled mess they had made of the correct one and waiting on a new replacement hose to make it all work together . Should work a lot better and not plug as easily since the current modified one has too many restrictions . I did take some time to make up a couple of steel plates to close up the hole in the back of the blower housing on the engine side - suction increased a lot and with the correct parts it should pull debris a lot better - as it was intended . Current cobbled deck adapter - stuff like this is expected with used equipment . So far - extended the tongue to help the hose clear the Horse like it should - Made some steel plates to close up the huge hole in the back of the blower housing - Made a new boot for the top of the hopper - their design was a cheap single layer vinyl that doesn't last long - this is 1600 denier ballistic nylon and will hold up a lot better . The whole town is still full of leaves and the Village has put away their mowing equipment for the year . Last few days of nice weather brought some stiff winds and now the areas I had done look like I never touched it at all , again . My goal is to at least remove them away from areas that I have to plow or use the snow blower on - frozen wet leaves just won't move well and cause too many issues . I pick up the heavy areas and just mulch what is left - looks like I'll finish sometime in December the way it's going - not all the trees here are bare yet . Odd year for sure - we'll probably end up with one of those freak snow storms like last year . Predicted 3"-4" , got almost 11" total of the wet stuff . Sarge

3 pointsMine is in the garage in her winter cloths with the battery tender on her so she is ready when and if it decides to snow in Indiana. We got basicly nothing last winter, so this year will probably be rough. Need to change the oil in the diesel engine still, been busy with work and family stuff. Mike the Aspie.

2 pointsThe D.O.T. and OSHA both say to use 3 points of contact when entering/exiting a vehicle or equipment. Both feet, right shoulder = 3. Seems fine to me.... you know, sorta...

2 pointsI got back and added some more pictures to the original post. I didn't pull the hub, didn't want to get into the grease. You'll also see I went with 1/2" heims joints with bushings down to 3/8" on the tie rods that was done before the spindle change. I've done a lot of modifications to my Wheel Horses over the years. I like a nice looking machine, they were repairs or improvements to the original design. I bought the C-120 new in 1977 I've changed all the bearings at least once. My PTO shaft and clutch shaft has oilite bushings. The front hitch has 1/2" thick collar welded to the front of it with a new over size pin to repair the loose motion.
-
2 pointsGot all my wire ran but one short piece...had exactly enough to finish until I added the final outlet closer to the ceiling...came up just a bit short...oh well gonna have to buy another roll when I decide what to do with my lights so no big deal
-
2 pointsMake sure the little set screw is tight on the little transmission motion arm. This arm has the little ball that slides in the plastic cam on the motion linkage. I had one loosen up once and when I was moving the motion control, this arm was not moving the shaft on the pump.
-
2 pointsIt is possible that you have automatic transmission oil in there...if it is red, use auto...if it is tanish, use 10w30. Use the one that is in there...do not change to the other kind.
-
2 pointsIf you have the manual or you can download it in our manual section get the one for your tractor as well as the Sundstrand or Eaton manual for that transmission - look at the section covering the tow valve and see if it's in the wrong position or opened . Also , check the drive belt - it could be shot or a sheared pulley key . The rear hubs might have sheared the key or gotten wallowed out from being ran loose - watch the axles and see if they are spinning in the hubs - that is a common problem some have had in the past . Sarge
-
2 pointsI know the feeling , you could almost lose track of any of the tractors next to my pickup - I even changed the paint color on the utility trailer when I rebuilt it this summer to IH Red . The Dodge's deep cherry red crystal pearl is quite close to the older mid-60's WH color . The trailer came out a bit lighter than I wanted , should have used a couple more coats to get more depth but it's fine for what it is overall - looks great with a Horse on it anyway . Sarge

2 pointsNot this one... She found it online listed as a rat-rod shift knob. The Mack hood ornament has changed some over the years but to the best of my knowledge has always been a whole dog. I have a tattoo of "figure 1" I have a Peterbilt "Flying Swan" that I'll likely install as the hood ornament later.

2 pointsDon Kane and Charlie Culley have both converted their GT 14's over to 8 speed rear ends. Don's tractor is the one at the big show with the front end loader on it, He volunteers it every year for the club to set up and tear down the show, Because he lets other people use it it has gotten tore up causing him to modify it. I don't know for a fact but I'm quit sure he uses it a lot around his place to boot. If I remember the story right Charlie bought GT14 with a bad rear so he pulled the rear diff and axles out of the GT and inserted them into an 8 speed trans to be able to use the 15" tires eric j

2 pointsI can see it now. A big red box with a bow on it showing up at Jim's house Christmas day. The Lexus music playing in the background, dogs running around, kids giggling. Jim opens the box and it's EMPTY! Pretty cool joke. Jim If I lived near you it would have happened!

-
2 pointsI guess it all depends if your playing for love or money. If your wanting to flip and make cash need to get it for less, say $150. For hobby purposes sounds like a buy at $200. So many times I have been asked about the tractors I work on. I explain that those things pretty much keep my sanity. A hobby..... tinkering and trying to make it run again. I would sell, trade, give them to my kids. Most of the time keep them.
